Maybe if we were different people, she thought as she stared at the home screen of her phone, hating the part of her that hoped he’d call again. Maybe if we led different lives. But they didn’t, and she couldn’t think of him without thinking of Thea, and there was no world where she could be happy with him and not hurt her.
