On Greta Danesti...
Tumblr media
I'm just taking this time to correct a certain anti-Black, (and anti-Romani) sadly typical fandom troll's misogynoir fuckery in the tag and establishing who Greta Danesti is in canon Castlevania animation lore. This is Greta Danesti's official character sheet:
Tumblr media
She's the village headwoman of Danesti a few miles away from Alucard's castle. This is what her voice actress, Marsha Thompson looks like:
Tumblr media
It's pretty obvious her character design took cues from the actress, who is Afro-British. In show canon, however, her family escaped from the Roman city of Carthage, which today, is located in the African country Tunisia. Alucard correctly speculated where her people are from while conversing with her, here (s4 e5):
Tumblr media
Greta then confirms that her people did escape the Romans, but she now fully embraces her "family" in her village who are "from all over" and the responsibility of taking care of them.
This same troll used the g-slur to insist that she is Romani.
She is not. This troll used an early character design here, to make her case.:
Tumblr media
And though it does have similarities to Romani clothing... It also looks like it takes cues from Tunisian clothing and likely local and non-local European clothing of the era with "fantasy" elements sprinkled in, as well, which would match the fact of her village's people coming from all over:
Tumblr media
There definitely should be more Romani rep in media as it is so often whitewashed, but Greta is not Romani.
FYI, these women actors actually *are* of Romani descent: Fairuza Balk of The Craft, Oona Chaplin who played Robb Stark's wife in GOT (she's also Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter[!]), and Noomi Rapace from the Swedish movie, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo says her father may have been of Romani descent, as well.
And because I can predict it, as people like to find ways of discounting blackness in every way...
Yes, there are plenty of non-Black indigenous POC in North Africa, including within Tunisia. Another fun fact... Africa has more indigenous human genetic variation among its peoples than every other people on the planet has with everyone else on the planet[!]. All this to say non-white POC AND Black people are indigenous to Tunisia.
I feel I have to say that because there is a lot of anti-Black anthropological fetishization of North Africa. Egypt is a major example of that (see: Rami Malek, an indigenous Coptic Egyptian who self-identifies as African man of color and has likely had to clarify that *often* because people keep wanting to mislabel him as an Arab, but I digress...) And sadly, there is a decidedly anti-black movement to totally disconnect certain North African countries' identities from a continental African one, and to largely see it as mainly a part of the MENA world (it is both kiddies, BOTH). Here is an informative article (linked in the image) about that struggle:
Tumblr media
So, this got heavy...but between the post insisting that Greta is NOT Black and the one saying she's not bisexual because that same troll is purposefully and maliciously being obtuse about how words go together... I figured clearing some things up and educating folks might be helpful. BTW, the fact of those issues in the article makes her blackness all the more resonant as rep in pop culture. And hey, poly folks have disagreements, just like the het folks do... -Still bi. I'm gonna end here with two images from the linked article of anti-racist Tunisian protesters (MENA and Black):
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
P.S. I also side-eye those keen to make her muscular... I mean yeah she wields a big-ass hammer and shortsword/dagger, but the tendency to masculinize black woman characters deserves a hardy eye-squint. Especially, given that the show has *no problem* making muscular women look like that and they DIDN'T for Miss Greta.
See: Zamfir and the Berserk-style sword-carrying Vampire warrior, Striga. Both of whom had that flex going on.

on the Latin anon. It's just so hard to find representation for latin or indigenous features - in all the latin diversity. I went through the tag latin and mostly found afro latina. Would just love to see more representation of copper and olive skinned people as well.
Thank you again for your blog. Celebrating models of color is really empowering and inspirational particularly from non conventional sizes
Hey , love 🩷 Idk if you and this anon are the same person but now I understand the question fully . Thank you for mention the Indigenous Models bc they do exist , if you want to support them on social media : Khadijha Red Thunder , Lizzy Yusuff , Denali White Elk , Karen Vega , Cherokee Jack , Celeste Romero , Quaana Chasinghorse , Valentine Alvarez , Heather Diamond Strongarm , Phillip Bread
I will do my best to check more often the models you're looking for . Thank you for supporting my blog

hello, hi! for the upcoming national hispanic heritage month i'm having a sobrenatural celebration from september 15th to september 20th! if you are interested in participating, please tag your creations with either #sobrenaturalcelebration or @ me!
if you have any questions at all, my askbox is always open.
rules:
any form of creation is encouraged! from amvs to webweaving to fics and more!
please only be latine/hispanic for participating in this event. this is meant to be a space for latine/hispanic creators to share their culture and uplift their voices. nonlatine/hispanic people are encouraged to reblog and like creations though!
i use hispanic/latine interchangeably but no spain content please 😭 we've been colonized enough
this is an event for all latine/hispanics! that means afro latines, white latines, asian latines and indigenous latines :)
no w/nc/st content or jack/anyone from team free will shipping please. and w/nc/st shippers please do not participate.
prompts:
day 1: flags/country/monuments
day 2: language/slang/dialect
day 3: folklore/religion/spirituality
day 4: dancing/music/clothing
day 5: food/family/holidays
prompts expanded below!
prompts in depth explanation
day 1: flags/country/monuments
this prompt is meant to explore the different countries latine/hispanic people come from. we are not a monolithic we have our own different flags, countries, and monuments. (man made and natural!)
day 2: language/slang/dialect
this prompt is meant to explore relationships with language. many of us may have a disconnection from spanish and/or native languages of our home countries which is worth exploring! there is also slang and/or dialect that may be only central to your own home country that would be interesting to delve into. spanglish included!
day 3: folklore/religion/spirituality
this prompt is meant to explore folklore of countries like duendes and la llorana. it's also meant to investigate relationships with religion (catholic/christan colonization anyone...) and uplift less talked about jewish latines and muslim latines. lastly, its meant to delve into spirituality including negative and positive experiences!
day 4: dancing/music/clothing
this prompt is pretty explicit but there are so many dancing styles, music genres and traditional clothing from latine/hispanic countries worth exploring and celebrating!
day 5: food/family/holidays
another explicit prompt, this one is about delving into relationships with family (a complicated matter for many latine/hispanic individuals) and celebrating traditional food and holidays that mean a lot to our identity.
again, these are just prompts you don't have to follow them nor do you have to follow them to the t. it's just a guide to help and inspire your creations. if you ever have anymore questions about them, again my askbox is always open.

Sex Worker Pride!
Sex workers were essential to the foundation of Pride as we know it today. Brenda Howard, Mother of Pride was a kinky polyamorous bisexual Jewish sw, and Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera were also sws of color. We would not have our rights without them and we must acknowledge our history. The red umbrella represents the sex workers rights movement and protection, & we& always make sure to add SWOC into the equation hence the Black, Brown & Tan circles, especially Black and/or Indigenous & Native SW, who're statistically speaking the most likely to be affected by whorephobic stigma, which is why we& added variants with the sacred Medicine Wheel which is very common in many Indigenous circles as a way of healing, the second centering the symbols of First Nations, Métis & Inuit, an Idle No More symbol of a Native fist with a feather that acknowledges Indigenous Sovereignty and represents healing and medicine, a Black Power Fist that must only be used by Black folx, and a Black Power Fist and a feather that represents Two Spirits, which must only be used by Afro-Indigenous folx, and the red butterfly which represents Asians, Pasifika and migrants. The several red stripes represent sexuality, sensuality & desire; to honor those who died to whorephobic violence & STIs as well as homophobia, transphobia & overall queerphobia & honoring the missing relatives who didn't come back home; sws of all genders, orientations, ethnicities & backgrounds whether they're courtesans, sugar babies, escorts, FSSW, cam models, exotic dancers, actors, s.exual s.urrogates, whether or not they've been in the industry for years, are just starting or plan on going into it but can't for whatever reason, regardless of the reason why they started, etc., & hope for a better future.
Flags created by The Imaginarians Galaxy!
Disclaimer: Do not fucking remove credit from us& being the creators of these flags, you may add these to a wiki if you choose to as long as you consult us& first, do not add without our& consent. These were looked over by an anonymous friend of ours& who's a former sw and gave the green light. Do not repost or tag these flags as your own and please give credit if you plan on using these flags, if you want to make edits of these flags, please ask, but please no recolors. These are okay to use for "[insert character] is a s.ex w.orker!" edits & the like. SWERFs and minors are forbidden to use these flags. Civilians may reblog these for sw friends but do not use it for yourselves if you are not a sw or at least haven't considered going into it, please only use these flags if you are/were a sw yourself or at least have considered going into it, or are headcanoning a character to be. Please no discourse interactions on this post.
Tagging @radiomogai for visibility!

My name is Rudra, but Ru/Rooki is fine. While I do have lots of work I can post— I’m going to do it differently here: Here, I will post my original content such as my OCs, concepts, and world building posts alongside random rambles. In shorter words, this will be more of a personal spot!
Aside from that, here are a few things to know about me and my work:
I am Afro-Latino, indigenous Mexican. 🇲🇽
I am trans and genderfluid, my pronouns are he/they. 🏳️‍🌈
I am a slow artist, i will not produce work for anyones leisure but my own. I disappear often, especially as someone who loves their personal space and is easily agitated.
I favor deeper, more sensitive topics in my work from time to time. Gore is to be expected among other things that are very much mature in nature. If that’s not in your palette, do not follow.
I will also block anyone who tags my work with any kin / me tag. My work is very personal and is for ME, not for you. We do not have the same experience, and if we did then fuck you anyways- it’s still not for you.
I have a NO BULLSHIT policy: Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated in my space. Leave your bullshit at the door, I don’t care for it.
… And that just about sums up everything, feel free to read further down for my social links and tag guide if you’re curious. Byyyye.

I don't plan on posting my face on Tumblr at all, but if youre close enough to me I'll probably send pics of myself to you
|other boundaries|
I'm fine with terms like kiddo, handsome, and pretty. I'm also fine with shitass in a joking way.
If we're friends you can call me kiddo and if we're really really close you can call me baby, babe or darling in a platonic way.
Some nickanmes that bring back happy memories are Little one, young warrior and bear cub.
My favorite Nickname is Sleepy bear

I struggle with SH and sometimes to avoid relapsing I'll sleep, so if I don't respond for a while it's probably cause of that and not something you did. I also take mental health breaks from time to time, and some of them include just not talking to anyone at all

I'm really curious where everyone comes from/what culture/ethnicity they belong to! Can I do a racial poll?

hi! i appreciate this blog that you've created. i wanted to know what you think the "archive" actually is? especially as it pertains to Black and brown communities/people. what is the role/function/responsibility of an archivist? would you consider yourself one?
hello :) thank you so v much it means the world to me and i'm so grateful for this ask !!
it's (mostly) a visual celebration of Afrocentric existence n resilience. individuality, identity and impermanence. communality. the extraordinary, the conventional and every other possible thing. thru the tags, birthplaces, final resting places stories of migration, relocation and survival manifest themselves.
i source everything from online obits and tribute videos, so inherently it's about exploring mortality, remembrance and the nature of shared nostalgia within our communities.
my mission with the content i post has always been to commemorate Black, Brown and Indigenous existence, focusing on diaspora and the realities of naviguating 20th century north america as a Black/Afro-descendant/Indigenous person through candids and snapshots. I work towards decolonizing nostalgia and dismantleling western and yt interpretations of the "past" and what daily life could have looked like for our ancestors.
on avg ~200k people die worldwide every single day. only a microscopic fraction of every one who has passed in the last 10-20 years have an online obituary publicly accessible, and an even tinier fraction have photos of themselves uploaded.
this is always on my mind as i research, for every individual i commemorate and document on here, i'm simultaneously remembering someone else, somewhere else, whose name is unknown to me, who has passed and has no photos or obits available, who naviguated consciousness on this realm same as you n me, and who merits the same recognition.
this is crucial to me, therein lies true representation, inclusivity and ultimately liberation. i document individuals who are missing, died violently or were murdered, just the same as i document people who passed under any other circumstance. people generally tend to steer away from such realities which is disappointing and deeply wounding.
this is a side project i run by myself and i work full time as well so its gonna take me some time to build the balance i want in terms of representation but nonetheless that's what i'm working towards.
i vow to accurately represent my communities and the infinite scope of our identities and complexities. that translates into lots of digging, lots of reading, lots of testing my researching skills.
i dont identify as an archivist per se, more of a cultural researcher and curator, because most of the value for me comes from the research rather than the archiving. roles/responsibilities are highly personal so i don't have an answer for you unfortunately. my focus will constantly morph thru time and experiences, but empowering my communities thru representation and memorialization will always be my intention.
there are no words to encompass the depth and range of emotions and insights that flood me when i uncover these gorgeous keepsakes. it's liberatory in a way i cnt explain.
all i want is for you to (hopefully) experience something similar :) let me know if you do <3
