God I hate Pinterest and I really need to stop reading the comments on literally any post on there
I just saw someone straight up say they’re afraid that show fans who haven’t read the books are going to take over and dominate the fandom and they’re afraid that their memories of the books are going to get overridden by memories of the show because of new show fans, and that’s a good reason to gatekeep.
Like okay, just say you’re a party pooper and go home.
Yeah this is about Percy Jackson but I’m not gonna tag it as that cause I don’t wanna get hunted for sport
#i say this as someone who read the books repeatedly as a kid#like was full on autistic hyperfixated on these books and would read one book in 2 days#and when i finished blood of olympus i would start back over and read from the lightning thief#i’m not exaggerating when i say i think i read each book at least 12 times#these books were so very important to me and i would not be the person i am today without them#and i have zero sympathy for people who want to gatekeep the story from people who didn’t read the books#like sorry i have real problems#and what exactly do you think you’re accomplishing beyond making someone’s day a little worse?#acting like there’s some pure pristine way to experience the story? give me a break#you can love one version of this story and let other people love another version#it took me a while to see that because i was a teenager who liked being angry but that includes the movies too#do i like the movies? not really#but there are people who do and in the end i don’t gain anything by shaming them#god there are some people who treat popular book series like the fucking bible#like it’s some moral crusade they have to go on to defend them from heretics who like the wrong version of the story#grow up and let people enjoy things#*this rant is not aimed at the children saying shit like this#*y’all will grow up and hopefully be more mature about what hills are worth dying on#*this is for the grown ass adults who act like it’s their sacred duty to shit on any changes made from the books#*and if it offends you then you probably need to take a step back and look at why you feel so threatened by other people enjoying things

Why WECAREBEST  Organic Series?
Why WECAREBEST  Organic Series?Benefits of WECAREBEST Organic Soap
What is the number one benefit of Organic soap? Organic soap is simply better for your skin. It contains natural ingredients such as plant-derived base oils, glycerin, and essential oils. By contrast, synthetic, mass-market soap is made of petroleum-based lathering agents, synthetic fragrances, harsh dyes, and dangerous preservatives. It’s not surprising, then, that a lot of our customers say that their skin feels better after using organic soap, and that it sometimes helps to improve skin conditions such as eczema and acne, rather than producing further irritation.
But not only is WECAREBEST organic soap better for you, it’s also better for others. It’s better for the environment because producing its ingredients has less of an environmental impact, and because those ingredients break down easily and cause fewer problems after they go down the drain. It’s better for animals because its ingredients are already recognized as safe, so no animal testing is necessary. And finally, organic soap is better for the economy, because it is often made by small, local producers, so the dollars you spend on it stay in the community.
Tumblr media
What do I mean by organic soap?
When I talk about organic soap, most of the time I’m talking about natural and organic soap. Natural soap is made out of fats or oils, water, lye, and often essential oils and natural dyes. Organic soap also has the added benefit of being made of ingredients that are produced with organic farming practices, that is, farming practices that don’t use pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. So organic soap is natural soap, but it is also one step better.
WECAREBEST Organic soap is made from Organic eatable ingredientsthat are better for your skin!
Organic Base Oils
WECAREBEST Organic soap is made from natural ingredients, and in most cases, those ingredients are also organically farmed.Such as organic olivia oil, organic coconut oil, organic grapeseed oil... The majority of the soap bar is made of what are called base oils. We use some of the same base oils for soapmaking that you can use for cooking. So if it’s safe to eat, it’s probably also safe to put on your skin. In the case of our latest recipe, those oils are coconut, olive, and castor bean oil. (We used to use palm oil but are phasing it out because of the massive amount of environmental destruction that it takes to produce.)
Tumblr media
Premium Essential Oil
Another ingredient in our soap is essential oil. Essential oils are the volatile or fragrant compounds in certain plants. Most essential oils are distilled from things you would eat such as citrus fruit or herbs. Two examples of essential oils we use are lemon essential oil and rosemary essential oil. Experts say you shouldn’t put pure essential oil on your skin because it is very concentrated and can cause irritation. However, essential oil diluted with another oil is just fine.
Planted Based Glycerin
WECAREBST organic soap also contains glycerin. Glycerin is a natural product of the soapmaking reaction. A lot of mass-market soapmakers and some small-batch soapmakers take out the glycerin because it makes the soap bar last longer or because they can sell the glycerin to use in other cosmetic products. However, when glycerin is left in the soap bar, it acts as a humectant, or a substance that attracts moisture from the air into the skin. Two other natural humectants are aloe and honey.
What about lye?
Lye is a purified natural substance that does not meet the definition of “organic.” Lye does have it’s origins in wood ashes, so it is plant-based. But it doesn’t seem like something you’d want to put on your skin. So what gives? Well, one soapmaker explained there is a difference between “contains lye” and “made with lye.” Soap is made in a chemical reaction between lye and oil. So, if done properly, there is no lye left in the soap once the soapmaking reaction is complete. There are only sodium ions, fatty acids, glycerin, and a bit of water. (And essential oils and whatever else you put in the bar.) If you have any more questions about how this works, google knows the answer, or you can send and email to [email protected], and we can grab a beer and chat about chemistry.
Soapmaking and cooking
A few years ago a friend bought a house, and her father came to visit to help her with a couple of carpentry projects before she moved in. We were all having dinner one night, and he said something that stuck with me. If you start with the best ingredients, and manage to combine them with a little bit of skill, you’ll probably end up with a pretty good dish. If you think about it, this makes a lot of sense. Imagine buying a salmon right off the boat, which you could when I was growing up on the Oregon Coast. Imagine taking the salmon home and cooking it over an open fire in the back yard. Pristine ingredients. And sure, it takes a little bit of skill to cook fish over a fire. Now imagine fish sticks that you buy in the freezer section of the grocery store. Imagine all the technical steps and machinery it takes to make fish sticks. Now which tastes better? In my experience, soapmaking works the same way.
A few of the bad things found in mass-market commercial soap. Three ingredients I’m going to examine are surfactants, parabens, and artificial frangrances.
Surfactants
Surfactants are the chemicals responsible for the cleansing properties of a particular product. Surfactants are made of long molecules with two different ends. One end of the molecule sticks to water, while the other sticks to dirt and oil. Surfactants, as a category aren’t automatically bad for you. Soap is technically a surfactant. But you have to be careful about which surfactants you put on your body. One of the most common surfactants in personal cleansers and shampoos is sodium lauryl sulfate. Sodium lauryl sulfate, or SLS, is made from coconuts, but it is contaminated with toxic byproducts when it is manufactured. SLS has been linked to skin irritation, toxicity, endocrine disruption, and cancer. Another unsettling fact about SLS and many other synthetic substances is that your body doesn’t have the enzymes to break them down, so they may accumulate in your tissues over time.
Parabens
Parabens are a specific type of preservative used in a wide range of cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. More specifically they prevent growth of mold and bacteria. Paraben is actually short for “parahydroxybenzoate.” The reason we should avoid parabens is because they act like estrogen in the body. Too much estrogen can lead to breast cancer and reproductive issues. One piece of good news is that there are a lot of newer safer preservatives available, so a company that is still using parabens is really just being lazy. When inspecting labels on cosmetic products you should look out for the three most common parabens: butylparaben, methylparaben and propylparaben. Or you can just opt for a simple, natural product such as  WECAREBEST organic soap!
Artificial fragrances
Let me tell you a story about artificial fragrances. Back in the early days of Metaphor Organic, we used some of them. (Hangs head in shame.) We bought all our essential oils down the street at a little bulk herb shop, and the artificial fragrance oil was right next to the essential oils. We didn’t know any better! But the more research we did, the more we realized we should phase them out. For example, there was an artificial vanilla that we used in some of our scent blends. Then we tried to find natural vanilla, but it was very expensive and it didn’t smell very distinctly. So we wrote to the manufacturer of the artificial vanilla to try to find out what was in it, because maybe then we could justify putting it in the soap. But they wouldn’t tell us! Artificial fragrances recipes are protected as trade secrets. So maybe they are fine, but other sources report that the majority of artificial fragrances are derived from petroleum.
Other ingredients
There is a long list of other synthetic ingredients that may be found in mass market cleansing bars, but listing them would make this article way too long. The best place to look for info on just about every additive to personal care products (and food) is the Environmental Working Group, or EWG. It’s their job to stay up to date on all the latest research on potentially harmful chemicals.
Why do companies use chemicals?
Ok, technically everything is made of chemicals, but you know what I mean. Why do large skin care companies use synthetic ingredients? For one, they’re cheaper than natural ingredients. For another, they’re easier to process and store. And finally, it’s easier to get them to produce exactly the desired result, such as super intense colors and scents. Remember that artificial vanilla we found at the herb store? It smelled like an hyper-natural BLAST of vanilla. Unfortunately, a lot of natural scents aren’t able to translate into soap. You can distill the essential oil out of a certain number of plants, mostly strong-smelling herbs, but I’ll bet that blueberry-ice-cream-scented soap is synthetic. Likewise, many flower scents are incredibly expensive to distill in their natural form, so, for example, if you want a jasmine bar of soap that costs less than $25, you have to use synthetic.
Regular Soap that isn’t soap!
As a final note on artificial soap, you might have noticed that a couple paragraphs ago I used the term “cleansing bars.” That’s because, legally, soap has to be made out of mostly oil, water, and lye. If it’s not, they have to call it something else, such as a detergent or “syndet” bar. That doesn’t mean that some companies don’t make actual soap and then put a bunch of other stuff in it. Dove soap is a great example. One ingredient is listed as “sodium tallowate,” which is just another way of saying tallow, or beef fat, that has reacted with the lye catalyst. Maybe not very delicious, but it is natural. But Dove also contains cocamidopropyl betaine, a synthetic surfactant. Likewise, Lush soap, even though we love its minimal packaging, contains SLS and parabens.
Organic soap has many other benefits
In the last part of this article, I’m going to talk about why organic soap is the best choice if you’re concerned not only about what sort of products you put on your skin, but also, the greater impacts of the production and disposal of those products. Organic soap is generally better for the environment, for animals, and for the local economy.
Better production
One reason organic soap is better for the environment is that its plant-based ingredients are grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. There is a ton of writing on why these substances are harmful so I’m just going to give a couple examples. Pesticides and artificial fertilizers can kill beneficial insects along with the ones that damage crops, they can harm other animals and plants, they can contaminate soil and water, and they can make people sick if they are exposed directly.
Better disposal
Another reason organic soap is better for the environment is that it breaks down easily after it is washed down the drain. Some of the ingredients that are bad for you in mass-market soap are also bad for fish and other organisms. Compounds such as parabens that mimic hormones are especially harmful, as they can disrupt these creatures’ life cycle.
Better for animals
Organic soap is better if you’re concerned about animals for a couple different reasons. For one, most organic soap is not made out of animals! There are some natural soaps that do use animal fat such as lard or tallow. If you’re looking to avoid these ingredients, check the labels, and look up the ingredients if you’re not sure. Sometimes ingredients are listed under names such as sodium lardate or sodium tallowate, which are the technical names for the free fatty acid salts that make up soap. Organic soap is also better for animals because usually, no animal testing is required. Organic soap ingredients are listed by the FDA as GRAS, or generally recognized as safe, and most new recipes are simply variations on older ones.
Better for the economy
Finally, organic soap has greater social benefits beyond personal safety and the environment. Most organic soap is made in small batches by local crafters. Studies have shown that the majority of money spent in local businesses stays within the community. At farmer or crafter markets, you can buy directly from the producer and attach a face to the product. And even if they don’t sell directly at markets, usually small-batch makers are more accessible than their corporate counterparts in case you have questions or suggestions for improvement.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
After going through all these reasons, it’s easy to see why  WECAREBEST organic soap is a great choice.
When we started, it was also the beginning of a larger maker movement, as producers and consumers shift back to smaller, more local, more unique products and better for your skin.

The Whole EXO Storyline Theory
It’s been so long that I’ve done that and I’ve been away from Tumblr for so long, because of no comeback and a disinterest in the use of the app.
Let’s go and dive into yet another theory
It’s been so long that I’ve done that and I’ve been away from Tumblr for so long p, because of no comeback and a disinterest in the use of the app.
I think I’ll explain simply what I’ve been pondering for a while. I knew that EXO’s story wasn’t in a chronological order. I’ve been thinking about flash forward and flash black, and it didn’t add up until recently and just now I got the idea because of KoKoBop. Hearing it for the 900th time took a toll on me.
So you have to add History in the storyline -my storyline- for it to make sense.
Introduction:
HISTORY is the opening of the story of the 12 guardians and it’s simple to understand that it’s the story of EXO once they have their powers or are first formed into controlling their powers on EXOPlanet. The lyrics literally tell you that the story begins here, that’s why most of the theories are incomplete. You have to add HISTORY to EXO’s chronology to understand the process used to tell the story. It’s baby EXO #1.
I went round and round
And came back here to start again
Yeah, EXO-M, EXO-K
The future we are about to start, history - HISTORY
Tumblr media
MAMA is the first eclipse that we are aware of, it reunites everyone wether EXO are in a world or another. It’s when EXO-K and EXO-M’s parallels universe collide and it’s when it’s also most dangerous for EXO as if they can reach each other, the RED FORCE can also reach all of them.
WOLF we have to thank the gods that SM released a drama because GROWL and WOLF eras are the most confusing pieces and made it difficult to finish this theory. The use of WOLF could not be about any wolf fantasy -even though I bet the Twilight show was the cause of it, the drama with Jongin as Edward is still iconic. But it seems to be more about that human would always go back to primary instinct even in the worst cases (death, violence, etc.) -at the end when Luhan uses his power in the most rough form and accidentally injures Kyungsoo. Well, we could go about Kyungsoo’s character and thinking that is the beginning of this grave and ambiguous character in EXO. I don’t know why but EXO are victims of amnesia, they don’t remember that they are aliens and they are here on Earth to save their own world. This is teenager EXO.
Tumblr media
GROWL following the series of WOLF. Some begins to become aware of their differences others don’t. Well you know exactly who is maybe already aware, it’s mostly seen in GROWL’s choreography when at the bridge Luhan turns Jongin’s head toward the general direction of others, Jongin is already looking at another direction (Luhan and Jongin are always the first to know), maybe the future of EXO.
OVERDOSE they are rat labs, I’ll talk more a less about it after the resume.
CALL ME BABY I like to think that there is a ‘talon d’Achille’ in EXO and it’s right in the form of our great Do Kyungsoo the most enigmatic character. If Jongin is always first in the teasers because he opens the story of EXO, the place of Kyungsoo as the LAST one is not for naught.
LOVE ME RIGHT Same as OVERDOSE, they are experimented on.
MONSTER There’s is this embedded idea of treason.
Tumblr media
LUCKY ONE joins the series of Overdose and Love Me Right.
LOTTO confirms the idea of Kyungsoo being an antagonist and will be confirmed in THE WAR.
KOKOBOP Like EXO said themselves it’s the idea of being babies and playing with your powers. This is rebirth. Babies EXO #2. I’ll just add about Kyungsoo that in EXO’s Version A photocard EXO are all embracing their powers apart from one, Kyungsoo who is pointing a gun at his power. Just to put in a place of my mind and your mind, he only acts like that on Earth so something may had happen or already happened in the MVs.
POWER Major prequel and brings light to what really happened on EXOPlanet.
Tumblr media
Theories:
So I only used the main comebacks and resumed every EXO MVs. As of now I’ll explain my non-useful theory because why not and I love to suffer. You have to think throughout the whole theory it’s like you are stuck in a broken time machine or you are hit by amnesia.
Transcending time and space
I dream of an Eden’s morning
Let’s go, we are that kind of existence - HISTORY
Time lapse theory:
The story of EXO goes back and forth like you are in a time machine you can only go back or forward, but with the exact same time frame, like 2 and -2.
HISTORY is way back in time, it means its counterpart MAMA is way later in the storyline. It’s one of the most recent era of EXO. So at first I was thinking about scenes on Earth and EXOPlanet and it didn’t make sense, so I told myself if EXO had flashbacks of around 100 years ago, it’ll mean that we could have a snippet of 100 years after the point 0 and it made more sense. So if something happened 5 years before, we could get 5 after the point 0. But I don’t know the point 0, maybe when the powers are split and they are put into two parallels universe or because of the short time lapse between LOTTO and MONSTER, it always changes and that’s why we’re so confused with EXO storyline.
Tumblr media
WOLF/GROWL are the counterpart of OVERDOSE, they are in the future and OVERDOSE can maybe be a snippet of the Red Force main and most used strategies into putting EXO in mazes. EXO have three MVs starring mazes, it means they spent a long time in them. So as the logic goes CALL ME BABY is the counterpart of LOVE ME RIGHT. As MONSTER is the counterpart of LOTTO, it is the most short time lapse between the two eras. Of course KOKOBOP is the counter part of POWER and gives a lot of intel on EXO managing their powers, but this insight is better for the other way of seeing EXO’s storyline.
Amnesia theory:
Imagine someone struck by amnesia. The only way for someone to regain their memories is with time or by being recalled familiar settings, objects, etc.
EXO are brought into memory of HISTORY with the euphoria of the first eclipse, they feel the same rushing feeling of when they had first their powers in MAMA. MAMA is the whole activation of their powers at the most pure form. When their powers rushed to them as they are in EXOPlanet and they were guided they used in full blast their powers, it means that MAMA is the time when EXO can use at its most pure form and powerful form, it means they have full control over them.
The trigger is then pulled during the WOLF/GROWL era. They are young teenagers stricken by amnesia and lost in a new world, darker than when they were younger and innocent. It’s how the reminiscence of OVERDOSE starts. Their most traumatic time is the first time they entered the maze.
CALL ME BABY or better PATHCODE is the trigger when they are in danger and they sense there’s something beginning to change. LOVE ME RIGHT is when they completely understand that they recall the memory of when they woke up from their slumber in the maze, when they truly understood that it was danger.
MONSTER and LOTTO -LOTTO is for me an MV that explains how EXO works, it points towards the presence of an antagonist *cough* Kyungsoo *cough* or someone that works on his own schedule- are when they breakthrough, when they understand the system, it’s all rage and violence. MONSTER and LOTTO were a confusing piece like WOLF and GROWL, the settings are pretty similar, it’s like a story divided or that the time lapse is really short between the two eras. It’s being prepared to go to war. Hence, why LUCKY ONE is the memory of getting away from the Red Force, as they are in real danger of loosing their lives.
Tumblr media
KOKOBOP is telling what happened when the guys came on Earth and as the end of LUCKY ONE introduced they didn’t come back all pristine from this cruel maze that took away 3 powers. As I explained, POWER is then the memory that got triggered by KOKOBOP, as it’s innocence and full of curiosity, POWER is the exact contrary, it’s pure rampage, it’s THE WAR -hence why POWER is used is the cutest MV of EXO because it’s the most cruel and violent one. It’s basically the story of children who lost everything and have to fight to survive. It’s like in anime or comics when you show war in a less rebuttal way.
Tumblr media
When they won against the Red Force, it was just after breaking from the maze and the experimental laboratory, they fight for their powers but also the 3 powers that lost their partners. It means when they are sent to Earth, the 3 other powers follow them. As EXO work in pairs, it means that the one that inherits the three powers are the remaining pair. It means Chanyeol, Sehun and Jongin. Hence, why we see the three of them lying on the ground at 0:09 in the MV of KoKoBop -number nine is a divine number in EXO’s storyline. As Jongin is always the first to be introduced and he is an opening, he is the first one to master Luhan’s power: Telekinesis. It’s with the help of Suho and Xiumin as they are the oldest and the most in sink pair as LUCKY ONE demonstrated near the end of the MV, they are the only ones that are connected to each other.
Tumblr media
Kyungsoo and Chen are working on the side, maybe on understanding more how their power work together. I don’t know why Xiumin and Suho split up for Sehun and Chanyeol, maybe because of the affinity of their powers to the other. Xiumin is getting along well with Sehun, whereas Suho is having a hard time with a Chanyeol that seems to be the least cooperative -Suho drenched in water, being in a washing machine, Chanyeol being wild during the whole MV, etc.
Tumblr media
I understand that Jongin was the first to understand how to use the powers of Luhan because of how their powers are not that farther apart. Sehun is the one that’ll have the most difficulty because of Tao’s power -Time Control- that is so far from his original power. But we see that he conquers it at the break dance of the song when he says ‘Break it down now’. And Chanyeol finally conquers the power -Flight- of Kris when he sends flying the basket ball.
Conclusion:
At the end of the day, I think that the best theory is the Amnesia theory and the time lapse theory is only an help in understanding the chronology. It goes well with story line and as you can see I put it in the order of the comebacks. Like we say everyday, the writers of EXO don’t do anything by coincidence. Please note that all the funky and aesthetic MVs of EXO points toward the most brutal eras of EXO -Love Me Right, Lucky One and Power- that may represent respectively, torture and major use of drugs, torture and experimental experiment, war and violence on innocents.

Lost Traveler || Mingyu || Oneshot
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2247
Genre: fluff, witch!au
Summary: You didn’t think witches were the scum of the earth, but you definitely did not have a very great opinion about them. That is, until you get lost in the forest and meet one.
Minghao // Woozi // Wonwoo // Seungcheol // Junhui // Hoshi // Joshua //
You had always heard about the guardian in the forest but you never really believed it. It was all just rumors. Why in the world would a witch spend all their time in a forest, guiding lost travelers to safety? You found it unlikely. Witches were the most powerful being on earth and must have better things to do than that. You could imagine maybe this witch passed by often and he did the easy deed of guiding travelers the right way but actually staying around and helping? Impossible. No one is actually that nice. That’s what you believed.
You weren’t cynical about the goodness of a person’s heart, but you also didn’t have a high regard for witches. The witches in your city were all prim, proper, and stuck up. They expected the best of the best even when they don’t actually deserve it. They sat on a high pedestal and acted as gods and you, for one, felt that they were hell’s workers and not the gods’ messengers. So you had an excuse to hate on witches. And it was a good one.
This story about the helpful witch in the forest never affected your life though. You lived a perfectly fine life in the city with your parents and your younger brother. You liked walking down the stairs of your apartment and going to the small coffee shop next door that served delicious bagels. You liked the hustle and the bustle; you like the confined yet unspoken freedom of the city. You had no thoughts of venturing through the forest to the countryside. None at all. You were content and safe where you were. But things never really go as planned, do they?
You were sat, eating breakfast and fooling around with your younger brother, when your parents walked over to where you two were. You looked up and you immediately knew that something was up. They had that guilty look in their eyes--the one that had you cancelling your plans on a Saturday night just to babysit your little brother.
“So,” your mother’s voice trailed off. She cleared her throat and glanced at your father.
“We,” his voice also trailed off. This was their thing. When they weren’t sure how to break some bad news to you, they’d pass it off to each other word by word until some crucial bit of information leaked out and you exploded or they hurried to explain themselves. You decided to save them the trouble.
“What’s up?” you asked in the most cheerful voice possible, ignoring the foreboding atmosphere.
Your father cleared his throat again. “We, uh, we need to talk to you about something.”
You nodded. You figured.
“It’s about,” it started again. Your mother’s voice was trailing once more.
“What? What is it?”
“Your grandma wants to see you.”
“Alright.”
“We agreed to let you live with her for the summer.”
Your eyes widened and your jaw nearly dropped to the ground without permission. You loved your grandma--really! You did!--but the thought of spending an entire summer with her, in the countryside and away from the city, just didn’t really sit well with you.
“It won’t be that bad,” your dad said hurriedly. He nudged your mother.
“Yeah! It really won’t! It’s just another month before school starts and then you can come back,” she quickly added.
“So,” you paused, trying to take in the information, “I’m going to live with grandma for a month?”
Your parents nodded, ecstatic at the thought.
“Who’s going to take care of him then?” you pointed a thumb towards your six year-old brother.
“We will! We have no plans during this month.”
You frowned hesitantly.
“It’s good for a young girl to get out and get some fresh air. You stayed cooped in your room and in the stuffy city too much,” your dad reasoned.
You weren’t so sure about that. The city air smelled and felt perfectly fine to you. But you agreed. Reluctantly. It wasn’t like you had much of a choice anyway; your parents would have forced you to go whether you liked it or not.
“I’m so glad you’re here!” your grandmother said, pulling you into a tight hug. You smiled, hugging her back before she pulled away, “I have your old room cleaned and ready for you.”
You thanked her and followed her with your things towards your old room. It was the same as it was when you were younger and had to stay over at her house often. Your old toys stayed in the same place on the shelves and on the bed. Your pictures books were still stacked (albeit arranged neater) on your small desk.
“Well, if you’re planning on visiting often, we may need to change out the furniture,” your grandmother joked.
You shrugged, “I think it’s still perfect.”
You grandma smiled gratefully and patted your back. “I still have some things to do but you can go around outside and see if you can make any new friends. Your parents tell me that you haven’t been leaving the house often?”
“I’m just tired, grandma. I have too much work to do at school,” you shrugged helplessly.
“Well now is the time to go out and take a breather! Who knows,” your grandma winked, “Maybe you’ll even see a cute boy.”
You laughed and nodded, putting your things in the corner of your room before you followed her back out and slipped on your shoes again. You headed out of the house as your grandma instructed but you really had nowhere to go. All your friends from childhood had moved away from the countryside to go to better schools in the city. The people left were their parents or aunts and uncles or grandparents. And you didn’t find the thought of talking to these people very pleasant. Backed into the corner with no one to talk to and nothing interesting to do, you turned your attention to the fabled forest. The one with the friendly witch guardian.
It wasn’t a long walk from where your grandma lived but it was still more walking than you were used to. Things were very spread out and there were few people around. It gave you an unsettled feeling.
When you got to the forest, you came to the conclusion that people were just making up stories to make the little children in this town feel safer. This forest was definitely not guarded by any guardian. It was creepy and felt different from the things that the city witches guarded. The things that were guarded by the city witches were pristine, obviously safe, and had a warm touch to it. This place? No way.
But you ventured in anyway. Out of curiosity and pure boredom.
The forest was like any forest. Large and dark with a lot of trees and foliage. It wasn’t surprising. Honestly, nothing in the countryside had surprised you yet. It was all expected and boring. You wanted to go back home already.
You continued your little adventure and moved deeper into the forest until your phone couldn’t even get signal anymore. You sighed and decided to turn back but when you turned around...the path was gone. Or maybe it wasn’t gone but you couldn’t see it anymore. Had you strayed from the path without realizing?
You felt a panic beginning to rise in your throat. What were you going to do? Were you just going to wander here forever? You didn’t know what sort of animals preyed in this forest and you weren’t sure just how often travelers passed through. Those stories of travelers were old--stemming from older generations and their experiences. If there was a forest guardian, he would have long retired by now and you highly doubted the newer generation would take him up on his boring job of standing around and waiting for lost people.
You let out a frustrated sigh and turned in a slow circle, eyes scanning the ground for possible traces of the path you had been walking. None.
You checked your phone again and slowly began moving in one direction. No signal. You began to move in the other direction. Still, no signal. This was great. Your first day here and you were already lost.
You sighed and looked around again. It was still bright out and it was noon. You had plenty of time. You picked on direction and began walking, hoping it was the correct way back into the same town you had left.
It was short but you soon came to the conclusion that you were just walking in circles. That rock--you were sure you had passed by it six times already. You chose another direction and went that way. This time, you didn’t circle back but for some reason that just made you antsier.
You paused in the middle of the forest and looked around again. Still bright out but still no sign of a path to follow. You groaned, running a hand down your face. You were lost. Terrible, horribly--
“Watch out!”
You turned at the sound of the voice and you were met by someone flying into you, knocking you out of the way. You looked up and saw a snake, hovering near you. You were about to scream when you felt a large hand fall over your mouth and a voice whisper into your ear, “It’s harmless if you don’t threaten it.”
You nodded and watched as the young man got up from you and carefully walked over to the snake, politely redirecting it away with a stick. The snake hissed in annoyance and the young man apologized sheepishly before turning back to you. You were still laying on the forest ground. He smiled a strangely brilliant, almost magical, smile, and walked back over. He held out a hand and waited until you took it and he pulled you up.
“That was a close one. The snake isn’t that poisonous at all but it’s never fun to be bitten by one,” the young man said.
“Poison…” you shuddered slightly at the thought.
He smiled again reassuringly, “You wouldn’t have died.”
“Right.”
“I’m Mingyu,” he held out his hand and you took it, giving it a firm shake. “What’s your name? Are you lost?”
“I’m Y/N and yes,” you admitted sheepishly. “Terribly lost.”
Mingyu grinned, showing off his sharp canines, “Good thing I know the way out.”
Your eyes lit up, “You do?” but then you paused. “Wait...how do I know you’re not some weirdo?”
Mingyu raised an eyebrow at your sudden accusation and he smirked, offense obvious in his gleaming eyes, “Why would i be some weirdo?”
“I dunno, why are you walking around in the forest?”
“I’m the guardian,” Mingyu said, straightening. “I was doing my rounds.”
“You’re the guardian?” Mingyu nodded.
“But I always imagined the guardian to be…”
“My grandpa was the first guardian. I’m the second,” Mingyu explained. He looked around and then turned back to you, “We can walk and talk.”
You nodded and followed him, curiosity piquing up now. “So, you’re a witch?”
“Yep.”
“Are you part of a coven?”
“The Diamond Coven,” Mingyu said. He glanced at you, “It’s, uh, different from the one my grandfather was in but it’s a good one. Reliable.”
You nodded, not quite sure what it meant to be a reliable coven. “You guys have, like, patron animals, don’t you? What’s yours?”
“Mine’s a wolf,” Mingyu replied proudly. “Like my grandfather.”
“And your specialty?”
“It takes a lot to beat me. You could say that I’m,” Mingyu hesitated and tilted his head, “Invincible? A normal sword or bullet can’t hurt me.”
You oohed, “That’s pretty cool.”
Mingyu glanced at you and smiled. “You seemed like such a non-believer but now you’re asking me all these questions.”
You rolled your eyes. “It’s not that I didn’t believe--witches are obviously real and anyone who denies it is just stupid--but I just didn’t think you were the forest guardian. That’s all.”
“Is that so?”
“It is so.”
Mingyu chuckled at your mildly childish response and you hmphed, turning away and looking back to the path. You were almost there. You felt a slightly sinking feeling in your stomach and Mingyu must have sensed it.
“You can come visit me if you want,” he offered.
“Huh? Oh, can I?”
“I actually live in the next town,” Mingyu said. “But since my grandfather cared so much about this forest I figured I’d visit it once in awhile…”
“So, to visit you I’d have to go to the next town?” you asked.
Mingyu thought for a moment and smiled, “You can just come to the forest. I’ll sense you.”
“Can’t you just give me your number or something?”
Mingyu shrugged, “I dunno. I don’t really give my number to suspicious weirdos that wander around the forest in the middle of the day.”
You scrunched up your face and Mingyu laughed.
“Next time! Next time, I’ll give you my number,” he promised. “I forgot my phone. I wasn’t expecting to meet such a cute person today.”
You pursed your lips and found your cheeks warming up at Mingyu’s sweet words.
“We’re here,” Mingyu announced and you looked around you. You were. You turned back to him. “Then, I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow it is,” you nodded.
Mingyu flashed his sharp canines again and turned, walking back into the forest. Maybe...witches weren’t all that bad after all.
