I’m calling this “Colorful Diversions”, lol 😝! When I decide to make a color chart of my acrylic paints I had no idea it would take me three afternoons of painting time to complete! At the start of it, it was oddly soothing but by day three I couldn’t wait to be done with it. I think this little diversion cropped up because I hit a spot in my current WIP, my “Hummingbird Kachina” painting, where I wasn’t sure what to do next. Before I started painting more routinely I had this fantasy notion that painting would always be zenful. For the most part it is but quite often I hit turning points that cause me some angst. These days I no longer plot out my work in great detail, instead I start with a very loose concept sketch and the painting evolves intuitively from there. Sometimes I’m not sure what direction to go in next and lots of doubts creep up about whether I have the talent to figure it out and/or to do what inspiration is suggesting. I’m trying or learning to listen and trust the creative impulses I receive, to trust the unfolding process of the painting itself. Can anyone relate? If so, I do get yourself through the hesitations, doubts, “not sure what this needs next” spots in your painting process? .
