Going way back to tribal music through Blues, jazz, rnb, reggae, soul, disco, house, techno, classical etc etc. We always go back to early house stuff if we're ever stuck in the studio. Abbiamo incontrato Christian Fischer aka Poni PunkFlwr, dj producer e nuovo coordinatore di Beathacker, label dell'universo musicale sempre in crescita di Jaywork Music Group. Luca Facchini e Luca Peruzzi sono sempre alla ricerca di nuovi talenti da far crescere e far conoscere... Beathacker servirà proprio a questo. Ma andiamo con ordine.

Ci racconti brevemente chi sei e come fai il tuo lavoro?

Mi chiamo Christian Fischer aka Poni PunkFlwr (un Dj e Producer). Di giorno sono un grafico per l'industria cinematografica. Di notte sono un DJ e da circa due anni circa produco anche musica. Dal 1996 al 2001 sono stato resident al leggendario Djungle Club di Abensberg, nel cuore della Bassa Baviera, dove ho suonato con DJ Hell, Africa Bambaataa, Dj Tonka, Monika Kruse, Acid Maria, Massimo e Chris Liebing, tra gli altri.

Quali sono le tue influenze e i tuoi gusti musicali? 

Amo la musica fin da bambino. Ho iniziato suonando il corno tenore, anche in una banda di ottoni. Sono però sempre stato attratto dalla musica sintetizzata e dalle canzoni con influenze elettroniche, di ogni genere. Ad esempio, ero totalmente affascinato dai suoni (all'epoca c'erano molti campionamenti) di Bomb the Bass, S-Xpress, Coldcut o Inner City e Dee Lite. Non ho mai deciso perché mi piace la musica di tutti i generi. Ho sempre preferito la musica house ricca di voci. Soprattutto, la musica deve essere ballabile. Deve farti muovere, farti ballare e scatenare sentimenti.

Che ci racconti di questa nuova avventura con Jaywork Music Group, ovvero la label Beathacker? 

Sono arrivato a Jaywork tramite una traccia demo che Dj Techneck (l'A&R dell'etichetta Ritmika), che lo ha ascoltato e mi ha immediatamente offerto un contratto. Gli sono molto grato per questa opportunità, perché da allora ho continuato a pubblicare su una delle tante etichette del gruppo Jaywork. È molto divertente e mi ha aiutato a crescere e ad imparare moltissimo. Techneck infatti è sempre stato presente, ad aiutare e consigliare. Questo è esattamente ciò che Jaywork mi ha offerto ora. Come coordinatore per l'etichetta Beathacker vorrei infatti aiutare altri dj a crescere. Voglio davvero ingaggiare giovani produttori e musicisti, o ovviamente quelli più esperti, e supportarli nel portare la loro musica nel mondo.

Che musica produrrete? Che tipo di artisti state cercando?

Cerco musica che risvegli sentimenti, che tocchi le persone che l'ascoltano e la ballano e faccia loro dimenticare la vita di tutti i giorni. Semplicemente, un suono da club davvero buono. Naturalmente, negli anni il comportamento di ascolto e il modo in cui viene acquistata la musica sono cambiati radicalmente negli ultimi 20 anni. Ma la sensazione di stare sulla pista da ballo e poi all'improvviso arriva questo suono che ti fa fluttuare, questo è quello che cerco. Chi siano questi DJ o produttori, alla fine, non mi interessa. Se la musica mi cattura, verrà pubblicata. Sono abbastanza aperto quando si tratta di genere, dalla deep house alla vocal house, alla tech house o alla trance. Tutto può trasmettere esattamente quella sensazione.

Ci racconti qualcuna delle prossime release? Che sound ha? Chi la sta realizzando?

Dato che sono ancora all'inizio, non c'è ancora molto da dire a riguardo. Ci sarà sicuramente un altro mio disco su Jaywork, che ho prodotto prima di diventare l'A&R dei Beathacker. Ma musica di quel tipo è  un buon esempio di ciò che sto cercando per l'etichetta.

Quali saranno secondo te le tendenze musicali nell'inverno 2023 - 24?

Se lo sapessi... Penso però che la buona musica con l'anima funzionerà sempre.

Che consigli daresti a un giovane producer / dj che sogna di vivere di musica?

Fai molta musica, lasciati ispirare dagli altri, impara dagli altri. Perseveranza, pazienza, duro lavoro e dare libero sfogo alle proprie idee.

The Possible Effects of Cinnamon on Memory and Learning

Cinnamon, the well-known aromatic spice that many of us use to bake cakes and cook savory dishes, is derived from the inner bark of Cinnamomum trees. These are evergreen trees found in the Himalayas and other mountain areas, as well as in rainforests and other forests in southern China, India and Southeast Asia.

In addition to its unique flavor, cinnamon could have other beneficial properties for humans. For instance, studies suggest that cinnamon has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties, and can also boost the immune system.

Some works also showed that its bioactive compounds could boost brain function, particularly memory and learning. Yet the validity of these findings is yet to be established with certainty.

A team of researchers at Birjand University of Medical Sciences in Iran recently reviewed several past studies exploring the effects of cinnamon on cognitive functions. Their analysis, outlined in Nutritional Neuroscience, highlights the potential value of cinnamon for preventing or reducing memory or learning impairments.

"This study aimed to systematically review studies about the relationship between cinnamon and its key components in memory and learning," Samaneh Nakhaee, Alireza Kooshki and their colleagues wrote in their paper. "Two thousand six hundred five studies were collected from different databases in September 2021 and went under investigation for eligibility. Forty studies met our criteria and were included in this systematic review."

Nakhaee, Kooshki and their colleagues reviewed hundreds of studies stored in several online research databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of Science. They then narrowed down their analysis to 40 of these studies, those that were most pertinent to their topic of interest.

Among these 40 studies, 33 were carried out in vivo (i.e., examining real living organisms, such as humans, rodents, or other animals). Five of them were conducted in vitro (i.e., outside of living organisms, for instance by analyzing cells or post-mortem tissue), and two were clinical studies (i.e., with medical patients).

The researchers extracted data relevant to all these studies, including their author, year of publication, compound or type of cinnamon used, the study population and sample sizes, doses of cinnamon or its bioactive components used, gender and age of participants, duration and method of consumption, and the results obtained. They then assessed the quality and reliability of the studies looking at their design, sample size, inclusion criteria, and other methodological aspects.

Finally, they analyzed and compared the results of the 40 relevant articles they selected. Overall, most of the studies they looked at suggested that cinnamon could positively impact both memory and cognitive function.

"In vivo studies showed that using cinnamon or its components, such as eugenol, cinnamaldehyde, and cinnamic acid, could positively alter cognitive function," Nakhaee, Kooshki and their colleagues wrote in their paper. "In vitro studies also showed that adding cinnamon or cinnamaldehyde to a cell medium can reduce tau aggregation, Amyloid β and increase cell viability."

Out of the two clinical studies analyzed by the researchers, one was conducted on adolescents and the other on pre-diabetic adults who were 60 years old or younger. The first study asked the adolescents to chew cinnamon gum, while the latter asked participants to eat 2g of cinnamon on white bread.

The study on adolescents yielded positive results, suggesting that chewing cinnamon gum improved memory function and reduced anxiety. In contrast, the clinical study on pre-diabetic adults found no significant changes in cognitive function following the consumption of cinnamon.

"Most studies reported that cinnamon might be useful for preventing and reducing cognitive function impairment," the researchers wrote in their paper. "It can be used as an adjuvant in the treatment of related diseases. However, more studies need to be done on this subject."

Overall, the systematic review paper by Nakhaee, Kooshki and their colleagues suggests that cinnamon and some of its active components could have positive effects on the functioning of the human brain, boosting memory and learning. In the future, this review could inspire other teams of researchers to further examine the impact of cinnamon on the brain, which could potentially promote its use to preserve brain function and slow down cognitive impairment.

Die ersten Arbeitsversionen von Acid Tracks dem Stück, dass der Acid Bewegung den Namen geben sollte, wurden testweise in den Clubs gespielt und basierten auf den Demo-Pattern des TB-303 Sequenzers. Die Jungs von Project Phuture konnten zunächst keine eigenen Pattern programmieren, weil ihnen das Bedienhandbuch für den TB-303 fehlte.

Die erste offizielle Veröffentlichung von Acid Tracks fand 1985 mit Hilfe von Marshall Jefferson statt und schlug in den Clubs ein wie eine Bombe.

Das reguläre Release von Acid Tracks kam allerdings erst 1987 auf Vinyl heraus. Diese EP „Acid Tracks“ wurde Namensgeber und Grundlage für den neuen Musikstil, der sich Acid nennt.

Zu dieser Zeit kamen auch legendäre Tracks wie etwa Acid Over von Tyree oder Acid Thunder von Fast Eddie heraus.

Acid-House wurde in Europa und vor allem in England begeistert aufgenommen und beeinflusste Acts wie 808 State, oder D-Mob (We Call It Acieed) und S-Xpress.

Ab den 90ern waren die TR-909 und TB-303 Basis und Acidmachine für zahllose Acid-Techno-Tracks der 90er wie etwa Hardfloor.

Die TB-303 wurden ab 1985 immer immer begehrter. Roland hatte aber die Herstellung bereits 1984 wieder eingestellt, weil sich zunächst nicht genug Käufer finden ließen. Wer heute gebraucht eines der Originalgeräte in einem nutzbaren Zustand erwerben möchte, sollte bereit sein, mindestens das zehnfache des ürsprünglichen Ladenpreises zu investieren. 1982 sollen im Musikalienfachhandel einzelne Exemplare dieser silbrig glänzenden Kästen voller Elektronik für wenigstens 730,- DM über die Ladentheke gegangen sein.

Die Klangerzeugung der TB-303 lässt sich heute allerdings am Computer leicht per Software nachbilden. Als bekannte und zudem seit 2005 kostenlos verfügbare Softwarelösung für Windows bietet sich ReBirth RB-338 von Propellerhead an.

Mit der komplexen Nachbildung einer Acidmachine aus zwei TB-303, einer TR-909 und TR-808 als Softwareemulation, sowie zusätzlicher im RB-338 enthaltener, virtueller Effektgeräte kann man aus nahezu jedem neueren PC eine Acidmachine machen ohne Equipment, oder besondere Hardware kaufen zu müssen.

Seit einiger Zeit gibt es sogar eine Acidmachine für Nutzer, die weder Equipment kaufen, noch Software installieren wollen, oder Linux und andere Betriebssysteme nutzen.

Mit jedem aktuellen Internetbrowser erreichbar, bietet AcidMachine2 eine vollständige Acidmachine an, die komplett im Browser lauffähig ist.

Entwickler hinter der in Javascript geschriebenen Anwendung ist @errozerodesign

Eines seiner aktuellen, privaten Entwicklungsprojekte in der Freizeit ist Metronic Studio eine Webanwendung die zur Klangerzeugung einen TB-303 emuliert. Die Programmierung von Pattern des Sequenzer erfolgt grafische über eine PianoRoll die Veröffentlichung einer BetaVersion ist für die nächsten Monate angekündigt.
