Maqtal says that when Imam Hussain (as) reached Abbas (as) on Euphrates, his head was split open because they hit him with buldgeon. One of his eyes had blood settled in it due to head injury however the head injury was also accompanied by an arrow pierced in his left eye which was weighing his head down. His rib was crushed. His chest was bruised with Mashq sown on his chest with the arrow piercing his chest. His spine was broken due to buldgeon attack with spikes.
When Hazrat Abbas (as) fell from the horse… He had no hands to support, he fell face first chest first so the spears and arrows went from chest to back, his head hit the ground first due to weight of the arrow in his left eye… They didn't just attack Abbas (as) the yazidis attacked the reflection of Ali (as) so they broke him into pieces…. Further they feared him so much that whilst beheading him they struck his body with more swords making sure he would rise although he was martyred already….
Maqtal writes that when imam Hussain (as) tried to lift his body to put his head in his lap he was taking last breaths and his body was shattered that when he placed his hand on his back to lift him the body further sank like pieces falling apart …
Ya Abbas (as) Salutations on you!

_*Martyrdom of Mawla Abul Fadhl al-'Abbas b. 'Ali (a.s.) (Qamar Bani Hashim)*_
Ibne Shahr Ashob in his Manaqib says that Abbas, the Saqqa' (the water Carrier), the Moon of the Hashimites, the Standard-Bearer of Husain, and the greatest of his real brothers went in pursuit of water. They attacked him and he too lay siege and *said, "I do not fear death even when it calls out to me, or until I do not fight the tested fighters and fall upon the ground, my life is ransom upon the one who is the life of Mustafa, verily I am Abbas the one who fetches water, while I do not fear on the day of battle".*
*He scattered the forces, while Zayd bin Warqa' Jahni, who was lying in ambush for him behind a tree, severed his right hand alongwith the help of Hakeem bin Tufayl Sumbosi. Then he took the sword in his left hand while reciting the following Rajaz: "By Allah! Although you have severed my right hand, I shall keep defending my Religion as also my positively Truthful Imam, who is the son of the Chaste and Trustworthy Prophet".*
*He fought until he was exhausted and Hakeem bin Tufayl Ta'i hid behind a tree and dealt a blow upon his left hand and severed it. Abbas said, "O self do not fear the infidels, may you receive the glad tidings of the Mercy of the Omnipotent, alongwith the Prophet the Master of the empowered, they have severed my left hand with injustice, O Lord burn them with the fire (of hell)".*
The accursed killed him with his iron mace. When Imam Husain (a.s) saw him upon the ground near the bank of Euphratus, he wept and *said, "You have done injustice through your actions O accursed nation, and have opposed the words of Prophet Mohammad (s.a.w.s), did not the Best Prophet bequeath to you regarding us, are we not of the progeny of the Righteous Prophet, is not Zahra (a.s) from among you my mother, is not Ahmed (s.a.w.s) the best among the creations, curse befell you and you were humiliated on account of what you did, and very soon you will face the scorching fire (of hell)"* (1)
Upon the martyrdom of Abul Fadhl al-Abbas (a.s.) Hussain b. 'Ali (a.s.) said:
*" It is now that my back has been broken and I have lost all my strength!!"* (2)

Historians write that on the day of Ashura, whenever Aba Abdillah al Hussain(as) would enter the battlefield to collect a martyr, He would be accompanied by on the right side The Moon of the Hashemites Abul Fadhl al Abbas(as) and on the left by the Sun of the Hashemites Ali al Akbar(as). Abbas(as) and Akbar(as) would then engage the army so that Aba Abdillah(as) could reach the martyr. What a sight it would’ve been, The Sun and The Moon revolving around each other in the darkness of the defiants..

It takes only the heart, soul, and character of Abbas (as) to be in thirst and conquer the river only to throw it's unworthy water back to it's heart and prefer to quench the thirst from the purest of water - Kausar…
It can only be the heart of Abbas (as) to deny himself the coolness of water and immediately gives away his hands for feeling the coolness whilst the hands of his master were blood ridden and feeling the heat of the sand of Karbala..
It can only be the heart of Abbas (as) to have every bit of him shattered, bruised, broken and torn knowing that soon enough the body of his master would be trampled by stallions.
It can only be the heart of Abbas (as) to aim for eradicating those who wanted to erase Hussain (as), and make his aim in line with the aims of Imam of his time. So what if Abbas (as) was not allowed to fight? Abbas (as) continued the aim of eradicating the enemies of Hussain (as) so he allowed the enemies to break his head, spine, and ribs but he broke the ideologies of the enemies by forever bring the flag of Hussain (as) in every piece of land and water.
"“O self! After Husain you are nothing and after him there is nothing. This is Husain who is going towards death while you would drink cool water? By Allah! This is not an action sanctioned by my religion.””
— Words of Hazrat Abbas A.S when he reached Euphrates and did not quench his thirst but instead quoted the above lines to himelf <3

IMAM HUSSAIN {AS} ON THE THIRD DAY OF MUHARRAM IN KARBALA WITH BANI ASAD
After the tents were arranged, the people of Bani Asad came from Ghazria to visit Imam Hussain (as).
Imam Hussain (as) asked them: For what purpose do you use this piece of land ? They replied: After cutting the crops (wheat, barley and pulses), we bring them here to thrash them and separate the grains and the hay; it is not for cultivation. Imam Hussain (as) asked: Do you want to sell it ?
They asked: How much land do you need ?
Imam Hussain (as) replied: 16 square miles (i.e. 25 square miles of nowadays, or 64 square km).
They responded: It is free of cost for you. Imam Hussain (as) discussed the matter with Zainab (sa).
The price of the land was maximum 30,000 Dinars.
Zainab (sa) wanted her share in it. Sayyeda Zainab (sa) and Imam Hussain (as) each gave an amount of 30,000 Dinars, so Bani Asad received 60,000 Dinars in gold coins. The Holy Brother and Sister both decided to put this land on Ali Akbar’s (as) name and the caretaker on the name of Abul Fadhl Abbas (as). The agreement of sale with some conditions was prepared.
Imam Hussain (as) told Bani Asad: I am donating this land to the Mu'mineen. Keep whoever will visit our mausoleum guest for three days. In the evening, the women and children of Bani Asad came. The ladies went in the tents and the children stood with Imam Hussain (as). First Imam Hussain (as) introduced himself to the children of Bani Asad and then he told them: Come again next week, on 11th of Muharram, You will see here some holy bodies lying. While you will play with dust, do put earth on those bodies; it will be your play and our burial.

Grave of Abbas son of Ali, inside al-Abbas Mosque, Karbala, Iraq.
Abbas had both of his arms cut off, he was shot in the eye with an arrow, his body was mutilated, and he was beheaded. Husayn appointed him to be the commander and flag-bearer for his companions. Abbas was a giant essentially- when he sat on a horse, his feet would still be flat on the ground. Abbas was requested to get water for the thirsty children from a tributary of the Euphrates river which was behind enemy lines. When the enemy saw Abbas charging towards them, they got scared and broke rank, and Abbas cut straight through to the river. Without drinking any water, he filled his waterskins and raced back to the camp- but the desperate enemy commander ordered his men to shower Abbas with arrows and ambush him in groups from every side. That's where Abbas lost his arms, lost his eye, and the waterskins burst. After falling from his horse, the enemy pounced on him....
Abbas has been given many titles, but the most famous are: -Arabic: Abul Fadhl/Fadhil = "Endowed with Generosity/Bounty"; Qamar Bani Hashim = "Moon of the Hashimites" -Farsi: Abal Fazl (same as above), Alamdaar = "Flag-Bearer"
