Part One

The sunset over the beach in Shirogane. It had been a long time since Yosei could enjoy it. In all honestly he still didn’t know if it was a good idea. He had just gotten too home sick. It was well worth the risk, at least as far as he saw it. Still, he had taken a few things into consideration. His long hair had been pulled from its typical pony tail and now hung just past his shoulder blades. He also wore a mask to cover his lower face, very similar to the style he wore when he was but a teen. It wasn’t much, but just enough that it should work to hide his identity. The breeze was gentle, his haori blew with it, his hair in his eyes. This was the time of the day that brought him true peace. Despite the risk he was taking, he was far more relaxed than he had been, in a very long time.  

 Laughter and Cheers filled the air, all part of the orchestra of fireworks that filled the dusk sky. A young teenage, Yosei, had claimed the usual spot for him and his friends. Most of the group had decided to move closer toward the display, leaving him alone for the moment. Not that he much minded. He sat on the old blanket they brought with the small spread of treats. His eyes trained on his little sister as she sat with his best friend only a few yalms from where he was currently. He had taken notice of the awkward closeness the two had at times, but he didn’t ever say anything. It was probably the only reason he decided to just stay behind and leave the two have their space. “Oh lookie what we have here!” It was a voice Yosei had etched into his mind. His gaze shifted to the two, now, men that had been bullying his friend all those years ago. A small twinge of panic started to creep up the back of his neck. He was unarmed, his eyes instantly went to the blades they both had. Had both of them joined the Sekiseigumi?

The younger of the two instantly drew on the Raen. The blade pressed to a patch of scaleless flesh at the bottom of his neck. Yosei turned a calm expression to the man, inside he was a turmoil. 

“I should just slit your throat where you stand. We know you have been involved in a long string of thefts.” The older brother just grinned. “If you should, why do you stay your blade?” Yosei took the moment to try to formulate some sort of plan. His serene green eyes turned to the older brother, who, at the moment, acted as nothing more than a emotional support totem. Standing with his arms crossed and a cocky grin on his face. Just as Yosei had come up with an idea, he was brought to his knees. The sudden impact from behind caused enough pressure to buckle his knees. The drop caused him to shift enough to get the blade to just drag across the thick scales of his throat. The new position allowed Yosei to be used as a spring board for the young Hyur the two bulled about four years prior. While mid-jump the boy launched a handful of sand into the man with his sword drawn’s face. Positioning himself to land ontop of the older of the two. The sudden impact of the Hyur’s weight caused the older man to fall to the ground. Yugen wasted no time to straddle the man so he had an easier time pummeling the man as he was still too disoriented to fight back.  Yosei brought himself to his feet.With no hesitation he grabbed the hilt of the blade, just below the guard. He brought a heavy foot to the man’s stomach, knocking him off center. With an unusual amount of strength he pulled the blade from his assailant’s hand. With a fluid motion, the temporarily blinded man found the edge of his own blade to his throat. “You two will never learn, will you?” The voice of the Raen was cold, calculated. Yugen finally stopped punching the older brother. Before he would stand, he gave the man one last solid punch to the face. Judging on the amount of blood, there was almost no doubt that at least his nose was broken. Yugen spat on the sand as the blinded brother moved to his sibling. The two walked away defeated, again. Yosei just looked at his friend with a grin. “Where would I be without you?”  “Probably not dealing with that?” It wasn’t long before Yuhara and the others rejoined the two. Yosei sheathed the sword in the sand before sitting down with his friends to enjoy the rest of the night.

The quite moment was interrupted by a loud whistle followed by a vibrant explosion on the night sky. Someone down the beach had decided to have a small display of their own.  A hidden smile came to the Raen’s lips as laughtered started to fill the air. Two young children sat where the water washed ashore, their mother behind as their father set off another round of fireworks.  “Hey, you done daydreaming? We should probably go....” A feminine voice called to him just behind him. He turned to see his future wife, and an even bigger smile took his masked face. As much as this was his home, he knew that where they were heading was now home.
