For #InternationalWomensDay + #WomensHistoryMonth: Marianne North is almost always labeled a botanical artist, but 121 of her Kew Gardens paintings also feature animals, like this one:
Marianne North (English, 1830-1890)
Foliage, Flowers and Fruit of a Queensland Tree, and Black Cockatoo c. 1880-1
painting, oil on board
H 50.9 x W 35.4 cm
Kew Gardens Marianne North Gallery [MN790]
PS - This bird is misidentified on the Kew Gardens website as a Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii), but it's actually a Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo (Zanda funerea) - the yellow cheek patch distinguishes it as the latter:
You can view all of Marianne North's paintings with animals in them here:
Bonus: Here's an actual Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (male) by Eileen Mayo, from her poster series made for the Australian National Travel Association in the 1950s. Fun wordplay here too - the bird's scientific name is Calyptorhynchus banksii and she placed it on a Banksia plant. :)
Eileen Mayo (1906-1994)
AUSTRALIA / COCKATOO & BANKSIA
c. 1955-7
poster, 39 3/4x25 inches, 101x63 1/2 cm.

Lasko and listener headcanons
Here are just some headcanons that I have for them both (mainly listener) <3
~ The listener enjoys bubbles, I feel they can control and form them just to watch them
~ Listener would also bring in a coffee and a packed lunch (like a sandwich and something sweet) with a sticky note on it and leave it for Lasko because he is always caught up with work.
~Add-on to the one above, they both sticky notes for one another to make it easier for Lasko. The listener loves this <3
~Listener would have a collection of large plushes, and has given Lasko a big Snorlax pokemon plush
~Listener plays slime rancher and they also have a puddle slime plush (ironically)
~ Listener gently drags their nails over Lasko's hair while he lays in their lap to help him relax
~ Lasko taught the listener how to make a DnD character and they strike me as the one to play an elf druid.
~ That the listener likes (sea) animals such as bobtail squid, dumbo octopuses and (avian) Australian birds such as the yellow tailed black cockatoo, rainbow lorikeets and honeyeaters.
~ Personally I like to think that the listener is from Australia (Or the UK)
~ Makes me think that even with them being slightly confused with certain American things, they would ask Lasko about them. Even if it was something random (Such as driving on the right rather than the left, food and animals)
~(Makes me think that the Listener would get treats that aren't in America for Lasko to try)
~ Personally (again), I view the listener as someone would freckles and longer hair that would work well with a cosplay (such as DnD characters-)
Hoped others liked these <3

“With the cackle of a Kookaburra and the kick of a Kangaroo, Eureka is a top candidate for being the most dangerous Decepticon. The resident veterinarian, she knows how to improvise and to catch anyone by surprise. She landed near the hot unforgiving beaches of Australia, and has survived this far before the nemesis picked her up. She’s the most adaptable Decepticon to almost any situation, which makes even Shockwave somewhat scared of her”
i did it!! i made a reboot of my OC!!! and look! she has different versions of her depending on the Universe! i'm so happy that she's done. i feel she looks so much better and that she now has a look that is her's. to help me, in each universe, her helm design is based off of an Australian bird.
TFP, RID 2015: Sulfur-Crested Cockatoo
TFA: Laughing Kookaburra
G1: Australian Hobby
Bayverse: Australian Eastern Rosella
IDW: Cockatiel
Earthspark: Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo
Cyberverse: Australian Rainbow Sittella
anyway, here's the story of her
Eureka, the queen cobra herself, is the loud Australian Veterinarian. Sure, her accent is the thickest you've heard but she's very good at her job. no animal leaves her care unwell. Eureka is what the decepticons call "strange". She's very much a living meme and loves to live life. Her pets involve multiple types of venous and non venomous snakes as well as some very strange cats. Eureka is the survivor of a plague that caused the deaths of her father and is out for revenge. She joined the Decepticons to find the autobot that caused the accident that caused the plague. She's childhood friends with starscream, and they've become conjunxes. Eureka imagines a planet without humans, where the grass is greener and only animals roam. But she knows Megatron will not allow her to have this. Unbeknownst to Megatron however, she and Starscream have their conjunxship behind closed doors. Eureka is very much not always aware her antics are foreign to everyone and sometimes forgets she’s from overseas. She also has a strange illness where, like a snake, she becomes lethargic in the cold. She has a strong value of fairness. Optic for optic. She especially is known to rage at cheaters, which may be why she especially hates slot machines and anything rigged. She believes in “fair and square”. Her primary weapon is her spear. If she must do a stealth mission, she utilizes snake venom. She cares very much for the environment but she understands some things aren’t exactly the solution… almost. Because of her illness, it’s very dangerous to go vegan, which she fully accepts.

‘Star Dreams’ windstone pyo gryphon. This piece is based on the Australian female red tailed black cockatoo. Only the females of this bird species have this beautiful yellow to red gradient & the dusting of yellow spots/stripes on their feathers.
This one is staying with me. But I will always consider commission requests for windstone pyos based off birds.
