YAR HAR THE BUGBARIAN
So, Yar Har is the origin point of a lot of things. He was originally made for a One-shot with some friends, last minute, with like 30 minutes to prepare. I hadn’t planned on being involved, till this idea popped into my head. In a previous game we had kept jokingly mispronouncing the city of Yartar as “Yar Har”, in which I developed a voice. A voice I have used for almost every Sailor character I’ve created. A voice that even now starts with my loudly proclaiming YAR HAR.
Bugbear - Barbarian (Totem of the Bear)  - Pirate - Chaotic Neutral - Yar Har the Bugbarian -
While most of the enjoyment didn't come from the Class itself, was a fun experience. Worked well because played heavily into his comedic levels of stupidity, mixed with confidence and a take charge attitude.
Backstory Concept: There wasn’t much here. A running thing was that he’d been under multiple Captains because the ships kept sinking. Other Crewmates of his were Nestor (the Lookout in the Crows Nest) and Deckland (the Deck Hand). Both Bugbears. In a game where I was going to use him seriously, he was hunting down a former crewmate that had betrayed them and lead to the death of the Captain and sinking of yet another ship. The joke was this crewmate was actually an undercover Naval Officer, a Tiefling who’d used the alias “Hue Mann”. Yar Har was not smart enough to figure this out, and was genuinely hurt.
Note - “Yar Har the Bugbarian. Putting the BEAR in Bugbear!”
- The Origin of Nestor and Deckland: I asked the DM if any Crew survived besides me and the Party during a Shipwreck. He said the Lookout and a Deckhand. I on the spot named them Nestor and Deckland, much to everyone’s delight.
Appearance: 7′2, 255 lbs. Yellow eyes, brown hair. An INCREDIBLY hair bugbear. Black nosed. Underbite and large canines. Thickly built, but BUILT. Studded straps around his arms and legs. No shirt, but had brown pants with a sash for a belt. One large leather shoulder guard on his right, besides he leads with his right in a charge. Wielded a Halberd. (This is how I learn Bugbear and Weapon reach stack, and that has unexpected consequences.)
