Well, we're finally here for Miami Art Week (casually referred to as 'Art Basel') for yet another post-pandemic yr, now in vanglorious 2022!

For its participation in Scope Miami Beach, ArtTime presents a selection of works by artists: Barnabe, Tsuyu Bridwell and Miles Regis (just above pic: "Triggered Awakenings"). Here's a video-walk-thru of last year's "Scope Art Show" I stumbled upon, right below.

Hey, and some even come for anything but the art, unless you're gonna call food art too?

Yea, sometimes food could be considered art, most definitely. But let's move on, there's lots of events, different evolving neighborhoods to explore, parties and lounges, after all, we are in Miami/SoBe.

And oh, let's not forget concerts. There's one called "Mirror Mirror" honoring the late, iconic Virgil Abloh too. Grab your tix here. Sooner or later, you'll discover everyone's got (or trying to score!) their tix.

The weekend has a lot to offer, including a touchdown of the Soulection crew for their "Soulection Presents" show feat. Sango, Joe Kay, Uncle Waffles & Major League DJz.

As in any visit, once you're on the ground and start mingling, networking to get your feet wet, we all know you could probably add a few more hundred discoveries that you'll ditch the above for, or end up missing because you were told either when it's over, or while it's going on. Yea, we hate that too. So here's one more, just in case that 'friend' forgot to, you know, invite ya ass.

Anyway, let's not forget why we're here. Although the creative parallels of music, film, literature, fashion, design, cuisine and yes, art go hand-in-hand throughout various destinations, let's ((try to)) keep our focus.

We got design gurus, Surface Mag's crossings of Polygon technology and art, creatively speaking for W South Beach Hotel's hosting of 'Polygon x Surface', and maybe we'll catch one of their daily immersive events live, instead of reading about it while we're here. Yet another case of the cooler than cool, not being 'waitlist' cool!?

DOGFISH HEAD MIAMI

In early 2020 Delaware's Dogfish Head declared their love for the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami and opened a new brewery in the heart of the arts district. Looking for an artist to bring vibrant colors to the site Dogfish Head turned to prolific St Pete artist Sebastian Coolidge. Dogfish says "When we saw the work of Sebastian Coolidge, we instantly knew he would bring an off-centered approach to the party!" Coolidge did not disappoint....but unfortunately, while Dogfish Head continues strong in Rehoboth Beach, tough times led to the closing of the Wynwood location in 2022.

Art Fair Visitor Breaks $42,000 Jeff Koons Balloon Dog Sculpture

The artist Jeff Koons' famous sculptures might look like they're made from balloons -- but the works are actually fragile, as one art fair attendee found out when she knocked over a $42,000 Koons piece Thursday, causing it to shatter.

A blue balloon dog sculpture created by Koons broke into tiny shards when a visitor accidentally kicked its podium, according to the gallery hosting the piece.

Bel-Air Fine Art was displaying the piece at its booth at Art Wynwood, a contemporary art fair in Miami.

In a statement shared in an email, the gallery's district manager, Cédric Boero, who was managing the Art Wynwood booth, said that the gallery serves as "one of the official representatives for the famous Jeff Koons balloon dogs sculptures."

"Of course it is heartbreaking to see such an iconic piece destroyed," said Boero.

He said the piece fell after an unnamed art collector visiting the booth unintentionally kicked the pedestal during the fair's opening cocktail hour Thursday evening.

"The collector never intended to break the sculpture, in fact she never touched it with her hands," he said. "It was the opening cocktail, lots of people were on our booth, she gave unintentionally a little kick in the pedestal, which was enough to cause the sculpture to fall down."

"This kind of thing unfortunately happens, that is why the artwork was covered by insurance," he said.

The gallery shared photos of the sculpture reduced to scraps of ceramic lying on the floor. The pieces are currently waiting in a box to be evaluated by an insurance expert, according to the gallery. Bel-Air Fine Arts added that some collectors have offered to purchase the broken pieces.

The 2021 piece was entitled "Balloon Dog (Blue)" and valued at around $42,000, according to an email from Bel-Air Fine Art. The sculpture was made of porcelain and measured 40 x 48 x 16 cm. A total of 799 editions of the sculpture were made.

Koons' balloon animal figures are some of the most iconic -- and expensive -- sculptures in the contemporary art world. His pieces have fetched jaw-dropping sums at auction: "Rabbit" (1986) sold for $91 million at Christie's New York in 2019, and "Balloon Dog (Orange)" (1994-2000) sold for $58.4 million six years earlier.

He has created hundreds of renditions of the balloon dogs, some of them towering over 10 feet tall, and some of them just over a foot tall, like the sculpture that shattered.
