It's crazy how much Neuromancer (the novel often touted as the foundational text of the cyberpunk genre) relies upon three of the authors' short stories as world building and characterization.

1 - Molly Millions (street samurai and the woman who launched a thousand leather fetishes) first appears in Johnny Mnemonic and references both that story and the aftermath in ways that only make sense if you've read that story.

2 - The technology (Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics, simstim, the Matrix, the Ono-Sendai Cyberspace VII) are all explained more in Burning Chrome than they are in Neuromancer, and as a bonus, the main character of Neuromancer was trained, in part, by world-class hacker and shithead Bobby Quine (one of the protagonists of Burning Chrome, whom we find out is doing quite well for himself years after the events of Burning Chrome, although the narrator of that story, "Automatic" Jack, is never mentioned).

3 - The world of the Sprawl, with it's deadly corporate backstabbing and espionage, is fleshed out in The New Rose Hotel.
