☾ notes: i’m not dead y’all, just been writing angst because i live for it. takes place during tlp, but no events from the book itself. inspired by i’m so tired by lauv and troye sivan.

raphael fucking hated this.
here he was, lying in bed with nothing but the warmth of his own body, accompanied by silence. even if he wasn’t physically alone, it didn’t change the fact he still felt isolated within his own friend group. they were so obviously close and he was just an onlooker.
ellie and lottie were attached at the hip, lola and micky had always had each other and now that percy was added to the equation, there was even less room for him within their little group. anastacia and saskia were too busy staring into each others eyes and binah was quite happy to sit back and observe, eyes flicking from whatever book she was reading to the group.
and then there was jamie. painfully watching ellie and lottie grow closer while he was brushed to the side like rubber shavings on a desk. he and raphael shared a situation, but there was one major difference that was glaringly obvious to anyone who payed attention.
jamie could actually cope.
he was ok with being alone because he knew he always would be. from the moment he was born, he was practically a third wheel even before he was made aware of lottie’s existence. raphael had no idea what they had between them, but he couldn’t help but want it.
he was drowning in hopelessness, mindlessly scrolling through his instagram page when photos of his friends having the time of their lives in japan surfaced. photos of his friends having the time of their lives without him. their smiles were something he’d not seen when they engaged in conversation with him for ages. 
he started to think he was the problem. maybe if he just left, they’d all be truly happy. and the more he thought about it, the more he believed it.
on the other side of the world, jamie sat on the steps of his dorm at takeshin. the wind that rustled his hair left the unfamiliar feeling of comfort. no one was awake this early in the morning. even if they knew he was up, he doubted anyone would want to join him. it seemed sleep was worth more than his presence.
he reached to fiddle with his wolf pendant, but quickly remembered he’d taken it off. he wasn’t worthy of it anymore, nor was he worthy of being friends with anyone here. he wasn’t keen on attending rosewood hall, but when he got used to it, he realised that he enjoyed it to a degree.
but now he just wanted to leave. he wanted out.
part of him wanted to forget his partizan duties and enjoy his last few years of school, but another part of him wanted to fall into a comatose state and see if people actually cared about him. see if it was worth all the effort he was putting in. see if he was worth all the effort everyone else was putting in.
he thought maybe raphael would join him for a morning jog. but he wasn’t here. jamie knew raphael didn’t feel like he particularly belonged. he noticed the gradual recluse within the group, and he couldn’t blame him. in a cluster of intense and conflicting personalities, there was no place for people like himself and raphael.
he considered taking raphael and running somewhere the gang could never find them. but he also realised that raphael had connections with other people in the school. he didn’t need jamie’s assistance. it’s not like jamie could do anything anyway. as long as he was tied to the royal family of maradova, his loyalty lay with them, not some neglected boy he met in high school.
jamie felt sympathy for raphael, missing out on the shit show that was leviathan and this hamelin formula. he also felt envious. raphael wasn’t being dragged into a problem that was bigger than him. he hadn’t bitten off more than he could chew. he wasn’t drowning in the weight of what seemed like the world. or, at least what was jamie’s world.
lottie brought him hope at first. but the deeper they got into the situation, the more he wished he’d never met her. he reached for his phone, dialling the only person he knew would understand him.
the monotone beeps that rang through his ears until they picked up reminded jamie of his loneliness, but it was soon removed when the beeps abruptly stopped.
‘hello?’
‘hey, raphael.’
‘everything ok?’
jamie debated opening up, but decided he wasn’t worth the effort. raphael probably had better things to do than listen to him talk about his never ending problems.
‘yeah, just checking in.’

2008 Acura TSX: Finding That Perfect Balance
It’s safe to say that Angel Pena, owner of this supercharged 2008 Acura TSX, has a “type.” Having been enamored with Acura’s entry-level sedan ever since it was first introduced, he knew right away he’d get his hands on one, and eventually, he did just that. Today, a decade later, he’s moved on to his second TSX chassis and managed to find a picture-perfect combination of what so many others often strive for: an almost completely street-legal build that’s tame enough for the street yet can hold its own on the track.  
Right Car, Wrong Color
  That initial purchase, a 2005 Carbon Grey version of the TSX about a decade ago, proved to be everything he imagined, though it was simply the wrong color. Angel adds, “My dream was always to own a white TSX. This year I found the perfect shell: 2008 model in white with a black interior.” The chase for that tough-to-locate color combo and, more importantly, one that met his high levels of expectation led to Tennessee. Angel and the owner came to an agreement and the shell was then shipped cross-country, arriving safely at its new Southern California home.
Having already pieced together quite the build prior to acquiring the new chassis, Angel didn’t have to hit the web to start sourcing parts, as he had the ideal donor car in his grey ’05, which was packed with suspension and performance goods that he simply had to remove and install on the new purchase. The vision for this build was exactly the same as before, “My Goal was to have a great, reliable daily/track car that can be California legal. My TSX venture has gone through many changes, but within time, I have found my balance.”
The OEM+ Formula
  From the outside, the OEM+ look and feel are apparent, with the almost required grill, front lip and back-dated headlight swap to Euro R spec for a more seamless look – minor changes that make a major difference in modernizing an otherwise aging USDM front fascia. On the “Plus” part of the equation, to even out the efforts of the front splitter, of which its origin Angel notes is completely unknown, there’s a carbon fiber J’s Racing wing. The rear addition might take away from the sleek, OEM look, but the trade-off of a controllable rear end at speed on track days is certainly worth it for Angel. The lower portion of the rear is capped with a Euro R lip that partially covers a pair of titanium exhaust finishers, courtesy of Mugen.
Wheels Make the Car
When Angel arrived at the studio, the first thing that stood out to me was the wheel and tire setup. Classic bronze CE28s on a white Honda rarely, if ever, fail to deliver. It’s an iconic look and one that’s been used plenty of times before and refuses to age. In Angel’s instance, the sizing of the wheels and tires up front had me doing a double take.
There’s no extreme camber or Braille-script fender markings, and from a distance you might think it’s a pretty standard setup. Get closer and you’ll notice there’s quite a bit of tire under those factory arches, as Bridgestone RE71Rs measuring 275/35 are wrapped around the 18×9.5 Volks up front, with 245/40s mounted to a 1-in. narrower rear wheel for a proper FWD stagger.
The Bait & Switch
Part of the transition from the grey TSX to this white version involved a number of suspension components, and rather than doing it in piecemeal fashion, Angel dropped the entire subframe on both cars and pulled the ol’ switcheroo, saving quite a bit of time. The bevy of upgrades included Feal coilovers loaded with Swift springs, ASR 32mm rear and OEM TL-S front sway bar combo, various arms and ball joints, all in excellent condition, which now do their work beneath the newer chassis. A big brake rear conversion and Spoon Sports front calipers are joined by StopTech rotors and Carbotech XP12 pads that make brake fade a thing of the past.
Stickin’ It to The Man
Building a car in California that is 100-percent street legal is a tall, if not impossible, order. The powers that be have been adamant about attacking even the slightest change to a vehicle, even if it doesn’t have an effect on emissions. Angel’s TSX toes the line with its modified exhaust that, incidentally, is very quiet, and when you lift the hood, you’re eye-to-eye with bolt-on forced induction – usually a no-no in these parts. His Comptech supercharger, however, carries a C.A.R.B. E.O. designation, as does the brand’s header, making them legal on Cali streets, though there are additional pieces under the hood that might be cause for alarm if he’s lucky enough to be chosen by the right officer. Regardless, Angel has carefully chosen power upgrades that are effective while making an honest attempt to stay within rather ridiculous state guidelines, which is no easy task.
Dual Personality
The factory K24 longblock remains almost completely stock internally, other than the additional safety measure Angel took in adding a 4Piston Racing ported oil pump. The power figures, afforded by the tuning keyboard strokes of KV Tuned, measure 353 hub horsepower, with 250 lb-ft of torque. More than just a grunt engine in a naked bay, just about all of the factory appointed pieces and accessories are still intact so that this TSX remains entirely street friendly.
  That doesn’t mean Angel skipped out on the extras, having incorporated titanium pieces from Chasing J’s and Speedfactory Racing along with a slick, low-profile Hybrid Racing dip stick on a muted, matte black powder coated valvecover. Using my massive imagination, I'm pretending these Volk Turbofans provide similar efficiency benefits to Formula E cars as Tesla's Aero Wheel covers.
(I doubt Forza's simulation goes to that much detail. Though on the other hand, it thinks they weigh the same as the default wheels, so there's no in‑game performance penalty either.)

Toyota once again brought out a fleet of custom show cars to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unlike last year when it had the outrageous C-HR R-Tuned and a number of NASCAR-modified Camrys, Toyota chose to highlight the Corolla hatchback and Tundra pickup truck for this year’s show. Toyota attracted all the hungry SEMA Show attendees to its booth with this pizza-making Tundra . The Pie Pro is a fully automated, mobile pizza kitchen on wheels. Built by Toyota’s Motorsports Technical Center in collaboration with Pizza Hut, the truck can make a fresh pizza in about seven minutes from when it’s ordered.

The factory engine was replaced with an 850-hp 2.7-liter I-4 Toyota 2AR-FE engine that uses a BorgWarner EFR 8374 turbocharger and nitrous oxide. TRD and renowned car illustrator Jon Sibal designed and manufactured the custom wide-body panels and the “old school meets new school” TRD-Blue Flame livery. The turbo-back exhaust is custom and the hatch rides on Motegi Racing MR133 wheels shod in Nexen N’Fera SUR4G tires. Our friends at Super Street created a sleek Corolla hatchback that looks like it came straight from Tokyo Auto Salon. Upgrades like RS-R coil-overs, Wilwood Superlite brake calipers with drilled and slotted rotors, and Volk Racing TE37 Saga wheels shod in Falken FK510 tires will help the hatch hold its own on the track or in the canyons.
The titanium exhaust tips from the A’PEXi quad system, the Avery Dennison body wrap, and the Auto Tuned carbon-fiber front lip, side skirts, and rear spats add lots of visual candy. Inside, the heated Corbeau Sportline RRS bucket seats and Pioneer audio system spice things up.

High-performance driving videos like those in Ken Block’s long-running Gymkhana series typically feature fast cars performing unbelievable stunts. But what you don’t usually see is the car that’s capturing those stunts, a vehicle that has to keep pace with whatever it’s shooting and be highly capable in its own right. The team at Hoonigan, led by car photographer Larry Chen, turned their Corolla hatch into a chase car for video production. But unlike most camera vehicles, this Corolla hatch can be safely driven on the streets because the crane and video gear (not pictured) can be disassembled and packed into cases that fit in the hatch.

The actor and director worked with Toyota and Complete Customs to transform the Tundra into an extreme outdoor rig that features a 4.5-inch BDS lift on Fox coil-overs and shocks, custom fabricated front and rear bumpers that incorporate Warn winches and Rigid Industries light bars, a two-piece roof rack attached to an ARE V Series bed shell, and Method Racing wheels cocooned in beefy 35-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires. A Dometic dual-zone cooler and Lock’erdown safes are equipped inside. The Tundra accompanies Kevin Costner to his on-location film shoots and outdoor excursions.

Toyota attracted all the hungry SEMA Show attendees to its booth with this pizza-making Tundra . The Pie Pro is a fully automated, mobile pizza kitchen on wheels. Built by Toyota’s Motorsports Technical Center in collaboration with Pizza Hut, the truck can make a fresh pizza in about seven minutes from when it’s ordered.

The factory engine was replaced with an 850-hp 2.7-liter I-4 Toyota 2AR-FE engine that uses a BorgWarner EFR 8374 turbocharger and nitrous oxide. TRD and renowned car illustrator Jon Sibal designed and manufactured the custom wide-body panels and the “old school meets new school” TRD-Blue Flame livery. The turbo-back exhaust is custom and the hatch rides on Motegi Racing MR133 wheels shod in Nexen N’Fera SUR4G tires. Customization continues inside with Sparco racing seats and a Papadakis Racing roll cage.
Super Street Corolla
Our friends at Super Street created a sleek Corolla hatchback that looks like it came straight from Tokyo Auto Salon. Upgrades like RS-R coil-overs, Wilwood Superlite brake calipers with drilled and slotted rotors, and Volk Racing TE37 Saga wheels shod in Falken FK510 tires will help the hatch hold its own on the track or in the canyons. The titanium exhaust tips from the A’PEXi quad system, the Avery Dennison body wrap, and the Auto Tuned carbon-fiber front lip, side skirts, and rear spats add lots of visual candy. Inside, the heated Corbeau Sportline RRS bucket seats and Pioneer audio system spice things up.
Hoonigan Corolla
High-performance driving videos like those in Ken Block’s long-running Gymkhana series typically feature fast cars performing unbelievable stunts. But what you don’t usually see is the car that’s capturing those stunts, a vehicle that has to keep pace with whatever it’s shooting and be highly capable in its own right. The team at Hoonigan, led by car photographer Larry Chen, turned their Corolla hatch into a chase car for video production. But unlike most camera vehicles, this Corolla hatch can be safely driven on the streets because the crane and video gear (not pictured) can be disassembled and packed into cases that fit in the hatch. The Hoonigan Corolla’s camera rig uses a Motocrane Ultra crane, a Freefly Movi XL gimbal, a Red Dragon camera, a Canon 17-120mm lens, and a Tilta Nucleus focusing system. Hoonigan, inspired by Corolla rally cars from the ’90s, modified the hatchback with 17-inch Fifteen52 Integrale wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R tires, Hella spotlights, an ARP Performance bumper lip, a Wrap Legends body wrap, and RS-R performance springs.
Kevin Costner Tundra Platinum
What looks like a zombie-apocalypse truck is actually Kevin Costner’s personal project and full-size toy. The actor and director worked with Toyota and Complete Customs to transform the Tundra into an extreme outdoor rig that features a 4.5-inch BDS lift on Fox coil-overs and shocks, custom fabricated front and rear bumpers that incorporate Warn winches and Rigid Industries light bars, a two-piece roof rack attached to an ARE V Series bed shell, and Method Racing wheels cocooned in beefy 35-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires. A Dometic dual-zone cooler and Lock’erdown safes are equipped inside. The Tundra accompanies Kevin Costner to his on-location film shoots and outdoor excursions.
