Covelong Beach has a captivating environment that makes it the ideal location for outings and picnics. It has magnificent silver sand and is flanked by palm trees. The beach in Chennai, a popular tourist site, offers a variety of water sports to its visitors, with swimming and windsurfing being the most popular.

Ashtalakshmi Temple On the Bay of Bengal's shores
The popular Basant Nagar and Basant Beach, which are situated along the Bay of Bengal coast, are close to Chennai's Hindu shrine, the Ashtalakshmi shrine. In this temple, the Goddess Ashtalakshmi is revered as the "goddess of wealth and knowledge". The complex's main feature is the resounding sound of the ocean waves, which gives the area a serene atmosphere and gives a sense of calmness and peace.
The temple every year organizes the "Jeernodhara Ashta Bandana Maha Kumbhabhishekam," a significant Hindu religious ritual that draws visitors from all around the nation.
Visit the Multi-Doomed Structure Mosque of a Thousand Lights.
The Wallajah dynasty of the Carnatic emperors constructed the Thousand Lights Mosque of Royapettah in Chennai, one of Tamil Nadu's most revered mosques, in the early 19th century. The Thousand Lights Mosque is built in the classic Islamic style, with tall minarets and domed prayer halls for men and women, respectively. The belief that "a thousand oil lamps were lit back in the bygone eras to illuminate the prayer hall" is how this lovely location in Chennai got its name. Can you picture the magnificent image when the mosque was illuminated by oil lamps against a night sky background?
What makes It more interesting is the fact that the walls of the mosque are engraved with the lines of the Holy Book of the Quran.

tw cancer, tw death, tw grief / life update
I was having a nice day on Saturday. I woke up, made a tea latte, did some yoga, went for a run, went to get groceries.
Around 3 PM I got a call from my mom and aunt, letting me know that the hospice nurse said that they expected my dad to have 24 hours or less to live. This was a huge change from previous estimates of a week-two weeks. Derek and I booked airline tickets same-day from Minneapolis to CA. Our flight wasn't until 9:30 PM.
We were at the airport, past security, waiting for our flight to board, when I got the call from my mom saying that my dad had passed.
I had prepared for this since he was diagnosed 10 months ago - I had prepared for this since he started hospice - I had prepared for this since the last time I saw him in April - but I still wasn't ready. I thought I was ready, I thought I would be ready, but I wasn't.
Derek held me when I broke down weeping in the middle of the airport. We flew 3.5 hours to CA, were on the road for another 1 hour, and got to my parents' house at past 1 AM. It was hell. It was a hell day.
The hell got worse the next day when we saw his body at the funeral home. I walked to him and automatically said "Daddy? Daddy?" like I always used to, and he didn't respond. He didn't say anything. It was hell. The worst thing I've ever been through.
My aunt and Derek had to go back to home (Pennsylvania and Minneapolis respectively) yesterday. My mom and I attended my dad's funeral today. Seeing the hearse, driving behind the hearse, was really hard. My dad taught me how to drive, and I used to sit in the backseat when he and my mom drove me around when I was a kid, and now I was driving behind the funeral hearse.
My mom and I were so nervous about the funeral, but it was beautiful. It was at a veterans cemetery, peaceful and quiet and beautifully maintained. The ceremony was beautiful. It gave us peace and closure.
My dad was 70 years old. He grew up in Chennai, India, in abject poverty, the youngest of seven kids, raised by a single mom. He grew up to become a pharmacist, and moved from a couple of decades of retail pharmacy work in India and Dubai and the United States, to moving to outpatient and inpatient clinic pharmacy management after he enlisted in the Air Force. He loved pharmacy so, so much. He was so passionate about it. His last job before he retired was an oncology pharmacist, at the same chemotherapy infusion clinic where he ended up receiving his chemotherapy after a diagnosis of small cell lung cancer.
My dad grew up in poverty, and his own dad was never around. He worked hard and provided for my mom and I.
I have had a lot of pain and grief ever since my dad was diagnosed with cancer. I could write for pages about it. All I can say is that I hope nobody has to see a loved one suffer and lose their life due to cancer, because it's hell to witness. I have the greatest empathy and love for others who have witnessed this painful process in their family.
All I can say is my only consolation is that my dad lived a long life. I know there are so many people who tragically die younger. My only other consolation is knowing that we are all united in grief, because this pain of losing a loved one comes to all of us someday.
This past few days, this past month, this past 10 months, has changed me irrevocably. I have new fears, new anxieties, new understanding (and fear) of death and mortality.
I also have more understanding and appreciation of life, how temporary it is, how important it is to live life to the fullest while we can, and how important it is to appreciate the people we love. My husband, my friends, and my aunt and cousins have been so supportive, carrying me through something so devastating. Even work, even my boss, who has been so understanding.
And to everyone on tumblr who has been so supportive during this journey. People who read my posts, who liked them to show solidarity with my feelings, who commented, who sent me messages of support and kindness. Thank you.

Goodbye Baby, enjoy your travels!
Tumblr media
Since a week I am scared to not be able to use my flight ticket. I tried an d worried a lot, but in the end I can only try and if I can’t fly, have to buy a new one. So here is the dilemma:
My tickets need a re-check in in India. Therefore you need a visa. To get the visa you need a passport valid for more than six months, which I don’t have anymore.
Tumblr media
The airline didn’t see that my last Indian visa has already expired and let me enter the plane.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naturally I stranded at passport control. The officials took my passport and handed me over to the airline. Friendly airline staff brought me my backpack and organized my subsequent boarding passes. After three hours I got my passport back and was told to go to the plane. The staff promised me that I can take my backpack onto the plane. Unfortunately, I stranded at baggage control with all my outdoor and camping equipment. Fortunately, after a while the official realized the helplessness of my situation, took some things from me and let me through.
Tumblr media
I didn't thought I would be able to have brunch with my mom in Munich the next morning. So happy to have managed it somehow. Now I am able to arrive in the world I choose to live in.

Ok... so after a long miserable day I'm finally booked
It cost $76 more dollars than it would have with expedia... but I know I don't have to deal with a middle man that's apparently going to be in India and try and up charge me (like he said my hotel would be $680 and plane was like $375, when it was more like $520 and $200, I'm not even mad at him cause I get he needs to make money of commissions probably... but no thanks)
Also unlike expedia I... actually have my tickets. Still need to send my hotel a photo of my ID before I'm checked in fully (cause we live in a surveillance state), but like... I'm actually booked
Seriously, don't ever ever use expedia. Like, it was good for helping me find a hotel in that their little map was nice, and it was good for finding what flight was cheap, so do end up using them for that... then go book direct cause it might cost a bit more but like... they've got terrible customer service, some of the worst I've ever had, and I just gotta advise you against it
(I couldn't even find their number, it was my Credit Union rep, all I found was a thing where they were like "give us your number and your itinerary and we'll call you"... do you want that if you need a problem solved?)
I'm good, today sucked but Kathy made it way better. I'm recovering enough energy to write her a messages telling her how things turned out, and I'm also going to both ask if there's any way to tell her supervisors how good she is and also I'm gonna say I understand if either she's not interested or it goes against policy, but if she wants me to carve something I'm happy to do that for her
Cause like... she may not have fixed my problem, but she took me from being crumpled on the floor saying "I just don't know what to do" to being in a pretty good mood and able to weather this
Absolute hero, and she also shows the difference in good customer service vs bad, and like if my credit union didn't have my state's name in it I'd promo them, where as... seriously, please bad mouth expedia if you ever get a chance
Like just think if you want to risk being in my position, or if you'd rather pay a little extra and just get it direct (what I paid is still less than what a competitor quoted)
I'd say it was a bad day, but I'm actually feeling pretty good thanks to Kathy at my credit union
Hope you're all doing decent, at least this is 90% taken care of

Whenever I see those posts that are like "I can't travel because I can't afford a $2,000 plane ticket" I'm like... yes traveling is expensive and it's incredibly frustrating how inaccessible it is for most people. However. Most plane tickets are not $2,000. That is ridiculously expensive for a plane ticket. If you live in the US, the only places that usually cost that much are Australia/Oceania, mainland China, and sub-Saharan Africa. Maybe a few other places that aren't frequently visited by tourists, like Central Asia.
Tickets from the west coast of the US to Europe are around $600 round trip but you can find cheaper ones. From the east coast it's around $300-400. Most places in South America run around $400, less for the northern regions. Most of the Caribbean is around $300-400. Asia is more expensive but you can get flights to India in the $700s and Japan in the $800s.
Coast-to-coast US travel is typically around $200-$300. All these numbers are round trip and include baggage.
And if you live in Europe, traveling to Asia, Africa, and inter-Europe is all waaaaay cheaper than these prices.
Still expensive and not possible for a lot of people, don't get me wrong, but I see people throw out ridiculous numbers. Most of my job is searching for flight deals so I'm extremely familiar with these rates and it kills me when people say a flight to France from the US costs like $1500, because no the fuck it doesn't. So if you've been discouraged by those kinds of numbers, rest assured they're completely wrong and hmu if you need help finding cheap flights or any other flight advice because like I said, I am literally paid to do this.

“In a different life, in an alternate timeline, it would come that easily. In fact, they never would’ve been here in the first place. But if they had, Este would’ve apologized, bought Pierre all the pastries and sweets he could handle, and given him a kiss. And that would’ve been that. A simple fix, no pride or jealousy in the way. And yet.”

Leaving Canada
After finishing the road trip, the last 2 weeks of September were a whirlwind of activities to sort out things and say goodbye one more time before leaving the country. Although I may have benefited from staying a bit longer, having been on the road for so long made me ready to close off this phase and look forward to the next one, going back home to Europe! 🤩
First priority was to clean everything that I had been traveling with (with thanks to lots of space and a garden hose😁) and then figure out what to put into storage and what to bring as luggage. Initially my intent had been to travel straight from France to Chile, however due to exorbitant one-way air fares, I ended up booking a return ticket back to TO for mid-January.... not sure how this is all going to work out but for now it means that I'm only travelling with one suitcase instead of the 3 that I had already pre-packed. Easier to carry but harder to fit my clothes! 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second key item was to get my car sold, so I got the car deep cleaned over lunch with Tara... something I've never done but should really have given myself as a gift much earlier! 😄 I thought the guy had done a great job at making my car look brand-new again, but he actually apologized to me as he hadn't managed to remove all bug residue from the grill nor the grit of the endless unpaved roads from the tires...the downfall of such an extensive road trip!
That afternoon, 3 accidents on the QEW highway meant that traffic was jammed for miles around, so I tried to wait it out by visiting the first 2 car dealers to get a sense of their offer... suddenly everything seemed wrong with my fab drive, as it needed new tires, new brakes, a chip in the window etc etc... 😯😪 I recognize the sales tactics for what they were but they still pulled me down, so by the time I got back home after taking 1.5 hours over a 20min drive, I was shaken & thoroughly fed up!
Next day, I toured a few more dealers who all basically said the same and then just cut my losses to get it over with (I must be the worst negotiator on earth! 🤣) ... I absolutely have had an amazing time driving my Rogue and I still loved everything about it, but it was time to say goodbye and move on.
Tumblr media
Being a bit emotional after signing the papers, I drove by my old house in Burlington (where the new tenants are neglecting the pretty roses I had planted 😣) and then sat on my favourite bench in Paletta Park overlooking Lake Ontario. A mere 10 minutes' walk from where I used to live, I would often come here over my lunch break or after work, a great spot to relax! 😊
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next day, after having handed in the car & safely deposited the cheque at the bank, I was happy to go over to Priyanka & Arnie for a traditional Hungarian dish and meet again with their lovely parents. I first met Priyanka's parents at our MBA graduation over 10 years ago and we've been in touch ever since, having shared many dinners (including with my parents and in Delhi 🤗), theater plays, a powwow and ofcourse the wedding in India! 😍😍
Tumblr media
On Friday, I spent hoouuuurs on the internet and phone to arrange anything from bank accounts & medical insurance to booking flights for my travels in Europe. Felt good to clean house and try to close as many things as possible before leaving. In the evening, we had delicious pizza & craft beer in the "Shed" in downtown Dundas.
That Saturday, it was fun times at the Ancaster Fall Fair with Arpita, Navneet and his cousin Nithia. 🤩 I had never been to a farm fair, which had everything from a hot sauce contest, cow & chicken displays to nitro-chilled snacks and prizes for the prettiest tomatoes, hay bales and funny-looking veggies! 😂 Quite an experience and a great afternoon!
Tumblr media
On Sunday, I went with Heather for a hike in nearby Dundas Valley conservation area, my favourite forest west of the GTA. I've been here so often that I know most trails by heart but this time we walked in from a residential area on the side so that the forest still felt new. 😀
I spent the second week in Toronto where I lived for 11 years - my personal record of living that long in one city! 😊 - and it felt really good to roam the streets (albeit only for a short period of time before the craziness got to me 😫). For four days I crammed in as many friends as I could see, starting with a great backyard dinner with my old team. Having 9 different cultural backgrounds being represented leads to ever-interesting diverse conversations! 😍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Tuesday, I had cozy lunch and dinner with my two good friends Kathryn and Lynne, both a bit senior to me hence always providing me with valuable insights that help me put things in a different perspective. 🥰 They're both great examples of how we can continue to have fulfilling lives for many years to come! 😘
Then on Wednesday, a lunch walk with Dana through my old 'hood and the Riverdale Farm, followed by relaxing tea with Natasha, Lance and their mother who I've also known since coming to Toronto and by whom I spent a memorable Christmas in Trinidad & Tobago. 🤩 In the evening, the drinks were tasty as usual when meeting with a loosely connected 😅 but somehow gelling group of Real Estate friends... always a good time!
Tumblr media
On my last day in Toronto, I caught up with Harvey over Indian Roti and then had a few lovely hours at the new Love Park at the harbourfront. My final date was with my camping-sailing-drinking group of friends 😎 at the Queen Mother Café, a downtown thai restaurant where I used to go often in the first years. We're all a bit wiser (?!? 😂) then when we first met years ago but the laughs are still there!
Tumblr media
Tired & having a terrible cold but feeling blessed with all those friendships, I made my way back to Dundas, where I was grateful to spend the last day with Arpita and Navneet, working a bit in the garden and playing the cool card game Dominion at night.
On the 30th September, they dropped me off to the airport, ready to fly home! 💖💖💖
