Leitz 90mm Tele-Elmarit Thin Review
by Johnny Martyr Recently, I met up with my friend Ben to photograph the DC Pride parade. He used a 90mm 2.8 Tele-Elmarit, which he recommended, stating that he sold his 90mm Summicron shortly after getting the Elmarit. I had never researched the 90mm Elmarit line but had long heard it was the cure for bloated 90mm Summicrons and calibration woes. 90 Thin Tele-Elmarit on the left, 90 E55…

Cloud Curio is a TTRPG publishing company focusing on the whimsical, wondrous, and weird. Amber Seger and Kenny Webb began conceptualizing this project in December 2021 and what started as a small personal endeavor began to quickly evolve into something much larger.
As they planned, they realized they lacked certain sets of skills and also…starting a company with two people ain’t easy! Thankfully they were able to recruit two amazingly talented and wonderful people, Sally Tamarkin and Kyle Latino. With those additions to the team, the Cloud Curio Crew was fully formed!
So what is Cloud Curio producing? You can look forward to a Table Top Babble podcast interview of the Cloud Curio Crew and long-form biography blog posts of the Crew!
Cloud Curio releases content every other week. Much of our content will be small releases. They can be any one of the following types (as of now):

Plot Hook
Spell
Weapon
All of our releases are designed to be system neutral with optional ready-to-use D&D 5e rules.
Accessibility, usability, inclusion, and diversity are also built into our overall design ethos. This means all of our art will have alt-text, we will have printer-friendly options, the graphic design is built on user-experience principles, and as we grow and fill the Cloud Curio, we will strive to be a place that brings different voices and perspectives to the TTRPG industry.

The phrase implies that when you eat stuff you really want to eat, you're doing something bad or wrong. But that's not quite what we mean here. It's not uncommon for people who are in the health and fitness industry to stick to a fairly consistent diet — one that's aimed at workout performance and recovery or maintaining a certain body composition, etc. Meet: the treat meal. If I'm going to have ice cream, I want the real deal. I don't have a specific timeline for when I have it — I may have it once a week or every other month. Our most recent favorite has been the pizza at Marta. We get a bottle of wine and an embarrassing amount of thin-crust pizza. The recipe is quick, so it's perfect after getting home late from a full day of training clients and teaching classes. Broil the portobello and onions for 7 minutes. Top with goat cheese and broil for 2 more minutes. Assemble with spinach, tomato, and avocado on a your favorite roll. I like bison meat because it is so much leaner than beef. Also, simple tricks like swapping your regular fries to sweet potato fries and adding lettuce and tomato help keep the meal nutritious I always do an appetizer before the big meal. My choice: three lettuce rolls with tuna and vegan mayo. Then I top off my meal with a gluten-free southwestern wrap with turkey bacon, avocado, lettuce, chicken, and extra spicy chipotle sauce. But when I really want something I don't typically have, I will eat a slice or two of a pepperoni pizza! I only treat myself to them a couple of times a year. At this point, whenever I have one it's too sugary and I only end up having the muffin top, which is the best part anyway! I am a huge fan of Banza pasta products because their pasta is made from chickpeas, therefore making it significantly higher in protein and fiber. I stay mindful that I need my food to support my activity level, but I don't limit myself excessively. My new obsession is Hail Merry's chocolate almond butter tart. Soooooo good. I love it because it is simple and tastes amazing. While studying my yoga practice in Italy, I developed a serious craving for fresh pasta. Sometimes after a long week, I like to indulge on Sunday nights and Cacio e Pepe is my go-to. If I am trying a new restaurant and Cacio e Pepe is on the menu, it's hard to resist! Everything in moderation. After cooking the pasta, remove and set aside, saving some pasta water. Melt 3 tablespoons butter in a saucepan, add in 1 teaspoon cracked pepper. Add in the pasta. You can sprinkle any extra Parm on top if you prefer. Serve and enjoy! Contact Sally Tamarkin at sally. Got a confidential tip? [ad_1] The Queen, for her half, was extensively thought-about the right envoy to America. She met with 13 of the final 14 American presidents, and understood “the personalities, the idiosyncrasies of the current government,” in line with Robert Traynham, an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, who has studied the Queen and US.-U.Ok. relations. She took horse fanatic Ronald Reagan out for a protracted journey when he visited England, despatched Dwight Eisenhower a recipe for “drop scones” (Scotch pancakes) after he’d loved them at Balmoral — and even attended a baseball recreation for the primary time with George H.W. Bush, a lifelong fan of the game. Barack Obama stated she was “truly” one in all his favourite individuals. The Queen not solely courted presidents, she bewitched the U.S. public, although Americans fought a battle to free themselves from the tyranny of British rule two centuries prior. She netted constantly excessive approval scores in polls — 72 p.c of Democrats and 68 p.c of Republicans reported having a considerably or very favorable view of the monarch in a May 2022 YouGov poll. Part of this fascination owed to the royal establishment at massive: Americans beloved “all the panoply and pageantry” that surrounded the Queen, seeing her household because the “royal Kardashians,” in line with Stryker McGuire, a former editor at Bloomberg and Newsweek who has written about Britain’s post-Elizabethan id. One essential factor of this attraction is the household’s “permanent celebrity” standing. “Celebrities come and go, pop stars fade; entertainers, television stars, movie stars fade,” says James Vaughn, a historian of Britain on the University of Chicago. “But the royal family persists.” Besides inhabiting the rarest stratum of fame, the Queen appealed throughout the Atlantic as a result of she may — and did — keep firmly above the fray of politics. Among Americans, there’s a “sneaking admiration for the fact that British politics separates head of state and head of government,” says Vaughn. “In England, the monarch lives in a palace but the Prime Minister lives in a townhouse on Downing Street. Our White House is more like a palace than a townhouse and our President can act more like an imperious king than any Prime Minister ever could,” provides Elisa Tamarkin, writer of Anglophilia: Deference, Devotion, and Antebellum America. “Monarchy in England is there only for the display.” Indeed, the Queen took that head of state function “very, very seriously,” says Vaughn. Oyster-like in refraining from controversial feedback, the Queen resembled a “blank slate,” provides Mcguire. “The thing about celebrity blank slates is that the admirer can write just about anything they want to on that slate. […] They can identify with that person in any way they want.” King Charles has cultivated a resume of progressive initiatives which have usually been climate-centered. | Andy Buchanan/Pool Photo by way of AP Elizabeth’s eldest son Charles, however, has spent many years in decidedly political territory, cultivating a resume of progressive initiatives which have usually been climate-centered. At 21, he made his first main speech on the subject at a countryside convention in Cardiff, drawing consideration to the threats of air pollution, plastic and overpopulation. This was in 1970 — lengthy earlier than environmental considerations grew to become mainstream political speaking factors. (He later reflected that others on the time noticed him as “completely potty.”) He has since progressed to greater levels. In 2008, he addressed the European Parliament, telling MEPs that the “doomsday clock of climate change is ticking” and known as for the “biggest public, private and NGO partnership ever seen.” He spoke at COP21, COP26 and the 2021 G-20 assembly in Rome, imploring leaders to take heed to the “despairing voices of young people.” At the 2020 World Economic Forum assembly in Davos, he launched the Sustainable
Markets Initiative, an effort to nudge companies in the direction of sustainable practices. The record goes on. Charles’ legacy equally might be discovered within the sprawling internet of charities he oversees. The most distinguished is The Prince’s Trust, which helps at-risk 11- to 30-year-olds safe training and profession alternatives. Idris Elba was one such beneficiary. While he was a teen rising up on an property (public housing) in Hackney, London, he was given a £1,500 grant to coach as an actor with the National Youth Music Theatre. This dedication to environmentalism and charity work is as spectacular as it's politically incongruous: There’s the loud-and-proud progressiveness of his public efforts. And then there’s his background of utmost wealth as a part of an establishment steeped in traditionalism and a tight-lipped tradition of “never complain, never explain” — a phrase adopted by the Queen Mother. Indeed, the Prince’s political exercise didn't keep away from microscope remedy: In 2005, Rob Evans, a reporter with the left-leaning Guardian, submitted a freedom of knowledge request to view letters that Charles had despatched to senior authorities ministers over the course of the prior two years. After a ten-year authorized battle and a £400,000 authorities spend to dam the circulation of the letters, the cache of so-called “black spider” memos was launched, revealing Charles’ lobbying on topics starting from higher tools for Iraq War troops to talking out towards the “illegal fishing of the Patagonian toothfish.” Despite this scrutiny, Charles’ latest invitations to main international political summits sign a rising acceptance of the monarch-cum-activist’s strategy. Yet, this doesn’t converse to how nicely he shall be acquired by Americans — a individuals who deified the Queen particularly for her charmingly vanilla strategy to diplomacy, who're extra sharply bifurcated than the British public on Charles’ pet points like local weather and who've demonstrated constantly low approval for the previous Prince (practically half of Americans had been reported having an unfavorable view of Charles in a February 2022 ballot.) Much of this antipathy is a hangover from the extremely publicized collapse of his marriage to Diana — who was a lot beloved within the U.S. — somewhat than adversity to his politics, royal watchers say. But that animus may develop if he continued to be as forthright now that he’s King. “He’d lose that shield of being a head of state above the fray,” Vaughn says, significantly as a result of his mom “just played it perfectly.” There’s additionally potential for Charles to be harnessed as a political weapon in America if “anti-environmental forces decide to attack him,” says Brian McKercher, writer of Britain, America, and the Special Relationship Since 1941. He may very well be “a convenient cudgel to hit a Democratic administration, or even a Republican administration, that wanted to do environmental things. I think that’s very possible.” Charles’ calls to environmental motion may very well be heard in another way in Britain and throughout the Atlantic. That’s as a result of the American public is relatively skeptical on local weather change: whereas 51 p.c of the British public consider the local weather is altering and that human exercise is principally accountable, simply 38 p.c of Americans agree, in line with a 2019 YouGov survey. By the identical token, 15 p.c of Americans consider the local weather isn't altering or that it’s altering however human exercise isn't accountable, in comparison with simply 5 p.c of Brits. “The U.S. is among a series of countries that has fairly extreme polarization on this issue. Countries like Canada, the U.K. and Australia also have some polarization, though not as extreme,” says Matto Mildenberger, an affiliate professor of Political Science at UC Santa Barbara. This can also be evidenced in get together agendas: Half of Conservative backbench MPs are actually
a part of the Conservative Environment Network, a group that endorses “net zero, nature restoration, and resource security.” In the U.S., however, fierce congressional polarization implies that Republicans generally oppose legislating to forestall local weather change. Against this context, Charles seemingly faces a alternative between his local weather politics and bipartisan reputation of the kind his mom loved in America. He has been attempting to modernize the monarchy and make it influential and related to political considerations, Tamarkin says. “But the attachment to the monarchy — and whatever social and cultural role it plays — has depended on its historical irrelevance in these respects. Charles may help bring attention to important political issues, but it just might be at the cost of attention to and interest in the monarchy itself.” In the tip, that is perhaps a moot level. Despite many years of environmentalism in his shadow, Charles has hinted that he'll change tack as King. In a 2018 documentary, he was asked if he would proceed his activist methods. “I’m not that stupid,” he responded. “You can’t be the same as the sovereign if you’re the Prince of Wales or the heir.” As far because the British monarch’s remit goes, there’s a centuries-long precedent for the pinnacle of state to stay politically impartial. While there’s no law stating that the sovereign can not vote, the Queen caught to conference and by no means stuffed in a poll. The 1215 signing of the Magna Carta adopted by legal guidelines such because the 1689 Bill of Rights spawned a constitutional monarchy restricted by the democratic will of parliament. While the pinnacle of state nonetheless should give royal assent earlier than a invoice turns into legislation, that is deemed a rubber-stamp train and has not been withheld since Queen Anne did so in 1707. So King Charles has restricted actual political energy, and he's unlikely to overstep the road. “I have zero concerns, no concerns that […] King Charles the III will rule as anything but a constitutional, democratic, lawful monarch,” says Vaughn. However, Charles nonetheless retains lobbying energy: The head of state and prime minister maintain non-public conferences, known as Audiences, on a weekly foundation. As Vaughn sees it, “the question mark would be: Would he try and use his role in the unwritten constitution to have more influence over policies and thinking of 10 Downing Street than probably his mother was ever willing to try to do?” Naturally, the route of Charles’ public work — somewhat than behind-the-scenes lobbying — will matter most to how he, and the monarchy at massive, shall be perceived in Britain and across the globe going ahead. In the U.S. — the place “The Crown” was must-see TV and tens of tens of millions tuned in to the royal weddings — this septuagenarian activist could break the spell solid so fastidiously and diligently by his mom. For some, the niggling reminiscence of his affiliation with Diana will fade, changed by a celebration of progressivism on such a visual stage. For others, the royal household’s attraction has lain completely in its theater: the mirage of energy, drama and opulence present at a take away from politics. For these Americans, the fairy story is — most definitely — lifeless. [ad_2] Source link

By Nicole Santa Cruz | July 15, 2022 5:22 p.m.
Nearly four years after a woman ended an unwanted pregnancy with abortion pills obtained at a Phoenix clinic, she finds herself mired in an ongoing lawsuit over that decision.
A judge allowed the woman’s ex-husband to establish an estate for the embryo, which had been aborted in its seventh week of development. The ex-husband filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the clinic and its doctors in 2020, alleging that physicians failed to obtain proper informed consent from the woman as required by Arizona law...
The experts said this rare tactic could become more common, as anti-abortion groups have signaled their desire to further limit reproductive rights following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade. The Arizona lawsuit and others that may follow could also be an attempt to discourage and intimidate providers and harass plaintiffs’ former romantic partners, experts said.
Lucinda Finley, a law professor at the University at Buffalo who specializes in tort law and reproductive rights, said the Arizona case is a “harbinger of things to come” and called it “troubling for the future.”...
Civia Tamarkin, president of the National Council of Jewish Women Arizona, which advocates for reproductive rights, said the Arizona lawsuit is part of a larger agenda that anti-abortion advocates are working toward.
“It’s a lawsuit that appears to be a trial balloon to see how far the attorney and the plaintiff can push the limits of the law, the limits of reason, the limits of science and medicine,” Tamarkin said.
In July 2018, the ex-husband, Mario Villegas, accompanied his then-wife to three medical appointments — a consultation, the abortion and a follow-up. The woman, who ProPublica is not identifying for privacy reasons, said in a deposition in the wrongful death suit that at the time of the procedure the two were already talking about obtaining a divorce, which was finalized later that year...
In a 2021 motion arguing for dismissal, the ex-wife’s attorney, Louis Silverman, argued that Arizona’s probate code doesn’t authorize the appointment of a personal representative for an embryo, and that granting Villegas’ request would violate a woman’s constitutional right to decide whether to carry a pregnancy to term.
“U.S. Supreme Court precedent has long protected the constitutional right of a woman to obtain an abortion, including that the decision whether to do so belongs to the woman alone — even where her partner, spouse, or ex-spouse disagrees with that decision,” Silverman said last year.
Gila County Superior Court Judge Bryan B. Chambers said in an order denying the motion that his decision allows Villegas to make the argument that the embryo is a person in a wrongful death lawsuit, but that he has not reached that conclusion at this stage. Villegas was later appointed the personal representative of the estate...
The National Right to Life Committee’s model legislation, which advocates prohibiting abortion except to prevent the death of the pregnant person, recommends that states permit civil actions against people or entities that violate abortion laws “to prevent future violations.” It also suggests that people who have had or have sought to have an illegal abortion, as well as the expectant father and the parents of a pregnant minor, be allowed to pursue wrongful death actions.
Under the legislation, an action for wrongful death of an “unborn child” would be treated like that of a child who died after being born...
“He has no desire to harass” his ex-wife, Martineau said. “All he wants to do is make sure it doesn’t happen to another father.”

David Tamarkin’s White Shakshuka
A classic shakshuka involves a spiced tomato–red pepper sauce; here that sauce is replaced by garlicky white beans.
Makes: 4 servings Time: About 30 minutes
Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium yellow or white onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped
½ teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (15-ounce) can white beans, rinsed and drained
1 ¾ cups bean broth or water
Juice of ½ lemon
½ cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves and tender stems, divided
Kosher salt
4 large eggs
Warm pita bread, for serving
Hot sauce (such as Tabasco), for serving
Instructions
1. Warm a heavy, 9-inch skillet (preferably cast-iron) over medium heat and add the olive oil. When the oil is hot, add the onion and cook, stirring frequently, until soft and golden, 5 to 7 minutes. Add the garlic, jalapeño, cumin, paprika, and black pepper and continue to cook, stirring, for another 2 minutes.
2. Add the beans to the skillet, followed by the broth, lemon juice, and ¼ cup of the cilantro. Let the beans come to a simmer (turn up the heat if it seems to be taking a while), taste, and adjust the salt. If you used canned beans, you’ll need about 1½ teaspoons; homemade beans will probably need less.
3. One by one, crack each egg into a small bowl, then tip the egg from the bowl into the skillet. Sprinkle a little kosher salt over each egg and cover the skillet. Cook until the whites are firm but the yolks are still runny—this could take 5 or 10 minutes. Put down your phone! Stay present!
4. Serve the shakshuka in shallow bowls, sprinkle with the remaining ¼ cup cilantro, and offer pita and hot sauce on the side.
