Whats this? I finally gave in and made a Destiny 2 DBH au? Yeah. I did. (Ima call it D2+DBH for short)
Bits of the designs (mostly Connor) are inspired by @ygreczed-3 ‘s TRGATSA au which I think is super cool (big fan of magic stuffs) thank you again for letting me use your design as inspo!
ANYWAY the idea is that everything is the same except the fact that Exos look like Androids. Exos creation by the darkness and Bray’s nonsense is still part of it (considering making Kamski as Bray, but i haven’t fully thought of it since who would be Elizabeth and all that yknow) so this au isnt very planned out yet, it was just mostly because I wanted to make Connor and Nines into some warlocks (I WILL MAKE MARKUS AND KARA AND THE WHOLE SHABANG LATER) so yeah the way Exos work in this is instead of just how fully and properly is in Destiny, Exos in this au work the same way as original, but they all have specific models instead of the different variety like in the game. So there would be lots of people who look the exact same because they are Exos, of course hair colour and eyes and such are different but overall theyre the same. So, say Kara right? AX400, thats one of the models, and thats what she looks like. Theres alot of other people who look like her, just like how in original DBH theres alot of her model. And the D2+DBH au Exo models, unlike the proper Destiny 2 Exos, were built with specific purposes, and Bray (Kamski..?) selected the person right before turning them into an Exo to see what model they’d fit best
Example, Kara was a simple woman who didnt come from a good family, so she left it to volunteer for Bray’s Exo experiment. Bray saw that she was nothing but a simple woman, and made her the average AX400 model. Simple. Just like her
Connor and Nines were friends when they both decided to volunteer for Bray’s experiment. They went by different names at the time, but neither of them in the present can remember anything. (Connor as a human being name Bryan would be kinda funny, and Nines would be Richard when he was human) Connor and Nines were part of the RK line, Bray made them specifically for helping humans with “detective” work and such so their pre-programmed minds are more intricate and aware, but with the Vex invasion at Bray’s Exoscience facility, they had to fight alongside Myrmidon’s, Trojan’s, TR400’s, TW400’s and WB400’s and a bunch of others as extra support. Hence why their numbers are 51 and 87. Thats alot of times to be reset. They remember nothing of their friendship. Or even eachothers existence. And when Connor woke up (previously 50, now awaken as 51) he was a guardian. Later on Nines will follow up and join the guardian crew (little funnies, Nine actually woke up as a guardian on his 86th reset, but he messed with some Fallen by accident and they learned to reset him, making him new again just as he was beginning to learn the light properly. His Ghost was not happy about it) Connor and Nines meet at the Tower and because theres not many RK models walking around (especially since most of them died during the multiple wars and their bodies were used up during the Vex attack at Bray’s facility) they easily noticed eachother like “oh my god, another me model, that’s something you dont see everyday” and it seemed they clicked easily like old friends. (I wonder why hmmmm)
Thats all I got for now. To the folks that know nothing of Destiny, or know nothing of Detroit Become Human, feel free to ask me. I know all i said probably sounded like nonsense to the other if you didnt know what even one side of the content was. Have a good day
I hope to be able to explain this better in the future, because this probably was frustrating for you to read with my bad explanation :(

Kamski the magician Connor on the spirit’s seal Hank and Connor Gavin and Nines
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6  - Part 7
Connor arrives into the hall of the castle without encountering anyone. He sees the darkness war spirit's seal engraved in the ground, and runs towards it to hit it with an ice spear but is stopped by a voice piercing through the gigantic hall. He freezes as his spear shatters in his hand, evaporating into thin mist.
??? : Well… It's been long since the last time I've seen an intruder in my house.
Connor looks up to see… Kamski.
Connor : … Please sir, my companions are fighting your monsters and… They won't last long… Can you call the monsters back ?
Kamski : Why exactly do you think those monsters are here ? They're made to defend this citadel. It's a miracle that you made it here.
Connor falls on his knees : I beg you, sir… Please order your monsters to retreat…
Kamski : Hm…
Kamski walks slowly to the middle of the room, towards the symbol on the floor, not deigning looking at Connor. He finally uses his magic stick to hit the seal and Connor sighs in relief as he can hear the darkness war spirit roars vanish, echoing in the silent hall. The Golem can't even stand up, his legs feeling numb as cotton threads. He slowly realizes he's facing his creator, his God, people would say. After a moment, Kamski speaks again.
Kamski : So… you're a Golem… You've come a long way, don't you… Who are your companions ?
Connor : Nines, the closest thing to a brother I have, Gavin and Hank, two human companions form the Red Guard.
Kamski : You came here with humans ? And you call them your companions ? Interesting.
Connor : We're here because we…
Kamski : Let me guess. Your species is on the decline, and humans are hungry. Did I get it good ?
Connor : ...you know about it ? Then why… didn't you help us ?
Kamski : I helped you already. I helped Golems by creating them to be sentient beings, able to feel and think, able to want. I gave you the key to freedom. I helped Humans by giving them magic creatures, able to cultivate the lands and mix in with them on a social and emotional level.
What did you all do ? Humans enslaved your people, and Golems turned their back to those they morally had to protect : now you're killing each other like animals.
Humans treated you as their creations, and instead of establishing a dialogue, you rioted, killed many of them, and condemned the survivors to die slowly from never ending famines. Humans could have treated you as their equals, but instead of that, they made you their slaves, and thus created their own fate.
I already helped you, but it was nothing more than a waste of time.
Connor : … But… we're dying…
Kamski : And you're just standing there, thinking I was going to save you all ?
What if I gave you everything I could already ? What if you had to save yourselves, now ?
Connor blinks.
Connor : "The key to our prosperity..."
Kamski : You know the answer. You wish I could give you a simpler solution, but I won't. Tell me, what's the key, Connor ?
Connor : … "The key to our prosperity lies in…"... symbiosis.
Kamski : Symbiosis. Funny how simple the solution is, and how everybody just overlooked it. Humans and Golems are enclosed in interdependency : the only way to save your peoples, is to unite them.
Connor : But how ? We… we're fighting for decades ! Killing each other ! How can we just… forget and step forward together ?
Kamski : I don't have all the answers, young one.
Connor : … I… I thought… you would come up with something… and save us all…To me, you were like a god… Now… How can I tell my friends we came this far for… nothing ?
Kamski : Oh no, Connor, you're smarter than this. Look at your partners, fighting for you to get here, and dare say again that you all came for nothing.
Connor is lost and disappointed.
Kamski : I'm sorry to disappoint you. There are no such things as Gods here below. All we have is willpower, determination and patience. If you all want to save your peoples, then do it by yourselves.
X
Connor finds Hank, resting against a column in the tunnel. The man gets up seeing the Golem, wincing a bit and holding his abdomen. All the monsters are gone.
Hank : So ? What happened ?
Connor just closes his eyes and hugs Hank tight. The warrior is surprised at first, but then sighs, realizing Connor's crying against him.
Hank : Let's find Gavin and Nines, you'll tell us later, okay ?
Connor helps Hank walk down the rock since he got hurt again fighting the monsters. They join Nines, who is taking care of Gavin's wounds. Connor can't help but notice his brother's fingers, delicately curled around the human's. Surprisingly, none of them ask anything about Kamski : they can already feel that something went wrong. Connor feels grateful when Gavin reaches for his shoulder, giving him an awkward yet comforting pat.
X
They get back to Nestlepeek, and sit down in an inn. Connor finally explains everything Kamski told him, staring at his hands, feeling on his shoulders the weight of his responsibility in the situation.
Connor : I know it's all my fault. I thought we were going to find a simple answer to all our problems… I took you on a quest I had invented because I was certain Kamski was going to help us.
I'm sorry for the trouble, I'm sorry we still don't have any solution… it's- it's all my fault.
Hank : … A few months ago… I'd have said it was just an illusion… that we couldn't bring peace between our two peoples. But now I… I want to try.
Connor looks up, eyes shining wet, surprised. Hank blushes, scratching his cheek in embarrassment as he keeps going:
Hank : I'm not optimistic, you know that. But we… I can't give up. You said we would save our people … and we're going to do exactly this. It ain't gonna be easy, I know, but we can do it. Right, Nines ?
Nines remains silent for a few seconds, his arms crossed in a reflective attitude. His stare wanders on the table, before it meets Gavin's profile for a fleeting moment. Connor waits nervously, ready to hear Nines say they should have stayed at Jericho, that maybe there was nothing left to save now. His breath fastens suddenly, but he tries to regulate it by himself, closing his eyes while Hank's large warm palm covers the back of his hand in a soothing gesture. Their eyes meet and Connor smiles faintly.
Nines : I learned to appreciate Hank and Gavin during our journey. I'm ready to plead for the Humans' cause with our people when we will be back home. Markus should listen to us… But we will have to convince the rest of them.
Hank : What about you Gavin ? Would you help me talk to Fowler, then the Queen ?
Gavin : I'd do anything to not have to fight Golems again. I can't do that anymore…
Nines smiles discreetly at Gavin's words. Connor can't help but to be touched by how close his brother and the youngest warrior are : Kamski knew it, they didn't come for nothing, after all. They had all found each other.
Connor : You guys really want to go back to Detroit and Jericho, tell our leaders we have to unite our forces to survive ? What if… what if they refuse ?
Gavin : Why would they ? We're living together or dying together. Even I know there is no better choice.
Hank : Diplomacy, this is our last resort : Kamski was right…We have willpower, determination and patience.
Connor meets Nines, Gavin, then finally Hank's loving eyes.
Connor : Alright then... Let's go back home.
I’m finally posting the last part lmao
So yep, they’re going back, and will solve the problem by themselves... I think it’s important that they try to make the world a better place by themselves, and not with only Kamski’s deus ex machina.
Hope you liked that last part, see you later for the Operation Cyberlife update ;)

Connor’s “I’m not going anywhere”
Gavin and Nines : interface
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6
They eventually find something in one of the books : Kamski is known to live in a castle, with 7 beautiful angels to serve him. No one knows how to get to Kamski's castle, since the pike is guarded by the darkness war spirit (actually Kamski being the powerful magician he is, sealed the war spirit to the castle, condemning it to the protection of the whole rock he lives on).
On their first attempt getting to the castle, Hank gets injured, and they're forced to retreat to Nestlepeek
Connor stays near Hank as he recovers, and can't help but touch him with noticeable loving attention. Nines sees him but just decides to say nothing, knowing he's too emotionally compromised with Gavin to give his brother a lesson. Gavin is totally oblivious to that, he's just very bad at hiding his concern for Hank (yes ! he is low-key worried for his human comrade).
X
Nines somehow gets to talk calmly with Nines, for the first time since the street fight.
Nines : I just don't understand. You've always been so ambitious, always training to be more powerful, why don't you use this aspiration to channel the power source and thus use it? It doesn't make sense. Gavin : It's… It's just too fucking much to process okay ? This war spirit is in me, I can feel its thirst for blood and violence all day long, and I know I can't control him because I…
Gavin just stops before he can say he's too confused with his own priorities now to have a defined goal he can use to canalize the spirit's energy. He used to know what he wanted to do with his power, but now, he feels a latent part of him wants to use it to protect his partners, Hank, and the two snowy idiots. He's still not ready to admit it outloud and thus, the spirit having no specific goal to unleash its violence, is in fact uncontrollable.
Nines, who is a bit more honest with himself than our favorite rat, already knows he cares for Gavin more than he should in regard to his given mission, and just feels so useless when Gavin refuses to talk to him. At this point Nines only wants to help him. He looks quietly at Gavin's nape, where the seal of the war spirit is still noticeable and forms a delicate golden scar. The Golem feels a little contradictory about this scar, one part of him being satisfied and proud of the mark he was able to let on Gavin's body, and the other part of him feeling guilty for it.
Nines : I'm sorry for this. You didn't ask for it and now you have to deal with… a war spirit and unwanted killing desires. I sometimes forget you're only human, it's not in your nature to use magic. Gavin : … It's okay. Let's just… stop talking about the spirit, deal ?
Nines remains carefully silent when Gavin offers his hand in a casual manly shake. He knows humans culturally use handshakes to settle an arrangement, and decides to ignore the deep and intimate meaning of this specific gesture in his own culture. Their hands meet, as Nines' skin unwittingly turns white at the contact, but the golem doesn't pay much attention since a human can't interface anyway. Gavin's smug expression shows he's  about to say something but his grin fades away as Nines realizes their mistake : in a flash, he can feel Gavin's doubts about his unsaid desire to protect Nines despite his hatred for golems. Nines isn't sure what passed through the contact and doesn't have a clue on what impression Gavin had about his inner thoughts, or if he even felt or saw something. The human is the first to break the contact. He looks shocked, as he meets Nines' eyes and for a moment, none of them can speak.
Gavin : The hell was that ?!
Nines is confused too : … I didn't know it would… interfaces only happen between magic creatures… Maybe… the spirit allows you to connect with me.
Gavin : What the… You read my thoughts ? Nines : It's not… mind reading. I caught a diffuse… "impression".  Gavin : … Shit.
Gavin looks suddenly so betrayed. He looks down and sideways, taking a few steps away, hands on his neck as if he was trying to hide his head between his arms. When Nines tries to get closer, he almost jumps away.
Gavin : Don't- Fuck it, don't… touch me. Nines : I'm sorry, I didn't mean to probe you. Gavin : What exactly did you… hear or whatever? Nines : … I think… I have an answer for why you can't use the spirit's violent spree. Gavin : Fuck you, that was private ! Did you search for it you fucking asshole ? Nines : Like I said, I didn't mean to interface with you ! You too must have seen something from me so stop being a child. Gavin : I didn't-
Nines waits patiently for the end of the sentence but it never comes, as some realization seems to dawn on the human warrior.
Gavin : That nice fluttering in the stomach, when we held hands, actually it was you ?
And for once, Nines is the one to remain silent, his face even but internally too embarrassed to answer the question. No wonder this sensation passed through the connection. For the few seconds their hands touched, Nines was, in a Golem way, experiencing a gesture akin to a kiss, of course he was kind of "emotionally impacted".
Nines : … As I said… let's not embarrass ourselves any further.
And at that exact moment, Gavin realizes that Nines likes him… more than a partner, more than a friend.
X
In their room, Connor is holding Hank's hand.
Hank : So, what should we do ? Connor : I didn't think about it yet. I wanted to be here when you wake up. Hank : ...I still have three days of bed rest at the very least… Are you sure you want to lose all this time when we're so close to the goal ? I mean, we already went through the desert, you don't need me anymore. Connor : Of course I need you, Hank. Hank : Ahaha… It's nice to go easy on me like this but you don't have to- Connor : You have to trust me, when I say I need you. It's not because I think you can help me go faster or even because I think you can help me cross a specific territory. I just… need you because you mean something to me.
Hank stays quiet but tightens his hand around Connor's, looking down right at them, his large, calloused fingers embracing the golem's white and slender ones. A long and deep look into Connor's golden brown eyes tells him there is more into this already meaningful gesture than he might think.
Connor breaks the eye-contact, and Hank realizes how intense the moment was : Connor's eyes inexplicably make him feel comfortable, as if he was floating in a warm air bubble, and he instantly misses the feeling when Connor stops mirroring his gaze to look down at their hands.
Connor : You know… There is this ultimate quest upon us, something we have to achieve to save our people… And this goal governed us like it was the only thing that mattered… Maybe I'm being a selfish brat, but Hank you're so important to me, I don't want you to be injured or killed in all this. Hank : You're important to me too, Connor.  (And then Hank laughs, giving in to his stupid and unwanted feelings.) Actually, you probably couldn't even understand how much you mean to me.
When Connor meets his gaze with a puzzled expression on his face, Hank decides he has to tell him. If anything, Connor could still change his mind and keep going without him, and then Hank will be able to finally move on. He's too fucking old to pine for a pretty boy, and if it's gotta be painful then he wants it the sooner the better.
Hank : I… recently started to develop… indecent feelings… Connor, purposely obtuse: "Indecent" ? Hank : I mean... in a… hum… romantic way. Come on kid, don't make me say it. Connor : Why would "romantic" be "indecent" ? Hank : Dunno, I'm old and pathetic, you're young and cute, sounds indecent to me. Connor : Hank… I love you too. Hank : ...You, huh... Sorry what ? Connor : I mean every single word in this sentence, Hank, I really do. Hank : … Oh.
Connor chuckles at Hank's blank expression, as his poor brain processes the information with unprecedented difficulty. And as Hank starts moving again, his brows frowning and his mouth forming an "o" like he was gonna say "why ?!", Connor just leans towards him and brushes his beard with his lips before meeting his mouth, softly.
And god, they love it. Hank leans forward to deepen the kiss, Connor catches his beard, his fingers following the edges of his chiseled jaw until they reach his neck and nestle around it.
And it's a weird sensation to Hank because he used to know what was hot passion and what was tenderness, and at this very moment, he could feel both in Connor's grip, burning fire and smooth touches at the same time. That's it, love, love everywhere.
They separate because the older man needs to breathe and hopefully, Connor remembered it because Hank was just gonna kiss him until he falls unconscious.
Hank : Am I dead ? Connor : You're thankfully alive and safe, but you need rest. Stay calm. Hank : I can't  believe it… i'm… almost scared of falling asleep and realize you're gone when I wake up. Connor smiles smugly at this : he takes Hank's hand in his own, kisses the palm softly, his deep dark eyes locked on Hank's.  Connor : Sleep tight. I'm not going anywhere.
X
So, as soon as Hank can walk again, the party goes back to Kamski's peek.
Hank : I feel better but I admit that I don't think I'm able to fight anything right now. Maybe we can find another way ? Gavin : Humans and Golems can't beat a war spirit. But, huh… a war spirit could do. Nines : … Is that you you're talking about? Gavin : 'Know another war spirit around here ? Nines : But you… you can't control it… I mean, you're obviously facing a dilemma with your own motivations right now. I don't think you should endanger yourself in this state… Hank : What dilemma ? Gavin : Not your business. It's fine, I just need… I just need to meditate a little bit more. Connor : We don't need much more than a distraction just a moment until we reach the castle. There we'll activate the seal and it should stunt the spirit for some time. Nines : I'm not letting him go alone. Gavin : Still don't trust me, snow man ? Nines : I'm concerned for your well being. I wanna help. Hank : Well then we can do that. Nines and Gavin take care of the spirit and Connor, we get to the castle as fast as we can. You're good ? Connor : … Yeah, that sounds good. I just need to talk with Nines. In private.
Hank and Gavin just look at each other, surprised, but then they leave the brothers for their serious talk.
X
Connor : What was that ? "I'm concerned for you well being" ? Gavin is right, only a war spirit can compete with a war spirit… even if we wanted to, we couldn't help. Nines : Gavin can't control his spirit. I saw it when we interfaced, he truly can't, no matter how much he meditates, as long as he will have this dilemma, he can't make it. Connor : Wait what ?! Interfaced ? How ? Nines : Guess the spirit makes him sensible to magic connections. Connor : What's the deal ? Why can't he control it yet ? He's strong enough, and for what I know, ambitious enough, so it's only a matter of… Nines : He's confused. He grew fond of us, and he knows we're basically enemies. We're all being reckless, he's the only one to keep this truth in mind; if we can't reach Kamski, or if he refuses to help us, we'll have to go back to the war we left, go back to kill each other. He can't resign himself to accept his attachment to us if we're going to be his enemies again. Connor : … Do you think he can make it ? Against the darkness war spirit ? Nines : I don't. That's why he needs me there. If the thunder spirit takes control of his body, I'll be there to hit the seal in his neck. Connor : Oh Nines… You love him, don't  you? Nines : … We're selfish and weak, Con. This mission… our whole kind is waiting for us to succeed. And we're threatening this long awaited deliverance because we fell for humans…  Connor : ...That's why we can't fail. I understand you're worried but maybe… Maybe that's the reason why Gavin wants to try : he knows we can't fail now.
X
In the final act, Gavin and Nines get ready to fight with the war spirit, while Hank and Connor plan on reaching the castle as fast as they can, and find Kamski.
Gavin and Nines are hiding near the war spirit.
Nines : … Are you ready ? Gavin : I don't really have a choice there.
Gavin breathes deeply and steadily, to focus and calm down before entering the arena.
Nines : I'll be flying right behind you, okay ? It's factually stronger than me, so I have to maintain minimal distance with it, but I'll be ready to hit your seal when you need  me to, and help you run away if you're in a bad state.  Gavin scoffs : Thanks Snowman, I feel so confident right now, with you believing in me like this. Nines : … Sorry I just… worry. Gavin : Look, I was right, at that time, I couldn't do it and I was totally right. But today I… I'll do it. And I want to prove it to you.
In front of Nines' incredulous stare, Gavin offers his hand : Nines narrows his eyes as he detects static electricity all around his fingers, as if his spirit was already eager to fight.
Nines : … Do you know what it means to us, Golems ? Interfacing with someone ? Gavin : Enlighten me, snow man. Nines : ...I'll tell you if we survive this fight. Gavin : Huh… fair enough. Now, take my hand, I'll show you.
Nines gulps nervously and reaches for Gavin's hand, his own fingers turning white as he gets closer to the human's warm skin.
And he can feel everything. It's a lot less blurry and chaotic than the first time, as somehow Nines' first sensation is Gavin's serenity about sharing his deep feelings. He catches a volatile thought that flies through the human mind, saying in a flippant tone "we might die, no need to get embarrassed", and smiles at it. Interfacing with Gavin is very special for some reason : Nines had interfaced with other Golems before but it was never so vibrant, so intense. "Maybe that's because we're about to die" he feels, and for a moment he wonders if that comes from him or from Gavin. Nines feels like Gavin is an extension of himself at that very moment. Suddenly, the realization he's gonna fight against a gigantic, ancient war spirit dawns on him. He feels scared, sure but somehow, confident as well. He can do it. He will do it now, because if he fails, he'd give up on his people in Detroit, his friends Hank and (surprisingly) Connor. He would give up on Nines and he's not ready to. He used to fear that he was making friends with an enemy… That they'd have to separate at some point, and go back to where they belonged, Detroit and Jericho. But if Gavin fails now, Detroit and Jericho are doomed. He used to fear that death was preying upon him… now he fears that his team could die. That Nines could…
If he fails now, Nines and he will be dead, and that is much more scary than befriending a Golem.
Nines frowns as he feels Gavin's hand twitching in his, as if he was about to draw it back. He wants to stay connected, he wants to melt into Gavin's mind, because he feels so scared right now.
All he can catch is a glimpse of something that sounds like "I have found some higher purpose in life than my own existence", before Gavin breaks the contact.
When Nines opens his eyes again, they're wet and his breath is short. Gavin too, seems a bit shaken up by the interface.
Nines wonders what exactly the human saw/felt/heard from him and feels very self conscious for a floating second. He wants to kiss the human, he can feel it in his vein, the fire of love rushing, burning his cold body. Gavin must have felt it through the interface… and somehow, Nines wonders if he knows. He doesn't seem shocked or… disgusted.
Gavin : You okay ? Nines : Yeah… I'm ready to go.
Gavin exhales sharply : Alright, let's do this.
Nines : I've got your back. Everything will be alright.
So they get out of their hiding spot and as Nines takes off, Gavin summons the thunder spirit.
X
We then follow Hank and Connor, who are climbing up the rocky column at the top of which Kamski established his castle. Actually, Hank climbs it and Connor flies around to help him find the safe grips.
They're constantly attacked by monsters with long members (parts of the war spirit), and can't fight them all back. They decide to run forward, and they finally reach a huge grid in a tunnel : Connor can pass between two bars, but Hank can't. Behind them, the monsters are getting closer.
Hank : Run before they catch us up ! Connor : Wait, there must be a way for you- Hank : I'm sure there must be, Connor, but we won't find the solution in the next few minutes we have. You have to keep going without me. Connor : What are you gonna do ? They're gonna outnumber you, and… and you're still healing from the last injury--- Hank : You have to find Kamski ! He must know how to stop those monsters, and the war spirit out there. He can help us ! Connor : … Yeah, right.
Connor puts his hands on the floor and ice columns grow up from the ground, keeping Hank in a safe space. When the man looks back at Connor with tenderness and gratitude, Connor kisses him through the bars.
Connor : The ice won't last long but it can buy you some time… Hank I… I love you. Don't let me down. Hank : I swear. Now, run, and don't look back.
Connor nods and starts running to the castle, as the monsters start to attack ferociously the ice cage Connor created. Hank knows it's not gonna last much longer, and that he'll have to fight. He prays to be able to see Connor again.

More concept arts - traditional art & inking
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5
When they go through the Summer Falls desert, Connor and Nines pass out fairly soon due to their intolerance to fire magic. They only get better at night, when the temperature drops, so they stay awake to watch out while the humans sleep. During the day Hank and Gavin have to take them on their horse/Sumo and walk beside them, even though the intense heat isn't making things easy for them either. They reach a village in an oasis where Connor and Nines get better, and when they realize there's a spring in it, they decide to go and rest a bit as the night arrives.
Nines and Gavin are gone meditating on a less crowded part of the spring.
Gavin : That's stupid… How can this make me stronger than my training ? Nines : Stop talking and focus on your breathing.  Gavin : Grmphh.. Nines : Can you feel the source of magic inside your body ? Gavin : … Yeah. Nines : You have to… establish a connection with it. Show him you don't fear it Gavin : But I fear it. Nines : The war spirit you host is an incredible source of power, and you can believe me, it is as bellicose as you are. It only needs a goal to aim for and you'll be able to channel its energy.  Gavin : … You know I'm your enemy… Why do you help me ? Nines, closed eyes : I know I can compete with you. I'm ready to be challenged. And it's funnier to fight a skilled warrior than a scared little boy. Gavin : … Fucker.
X
Connor and Hank in the hot spring
Connor : I think that's what your hug feels like. Hank : hm ? Connor : The hot water. I think it's what hugs feel like. Hank : You said my hugs... Connor : Did I ? I was just thinking… about how you hug Sumo sometimes. He loves it. Hank : Yeah, this big boy loves cuddles  I admit that. Connor : It must feel good. Hank : What… You've never been hugged before ? Connor : Golems do have… intimate behaviors, of course but it's not… I mean we're… not physically warm, so... (NB : I was thinking golems in this universe would be like vampires, not as freezing as actual snow but still colder than humans) Hank : ...Thought you didn't like heat that much. Connor : Warmth from human's touch is different from fire magic : it feels more… safe, less aggressive. I think I'd like that. Hank : … How do you know that ? Connor : I touched your back to heal it, remember ? Your warmth feels nice. Hank : Yeah okay, you touched me, but you don't know what my hugs feel like ? Maybe you'd hate that. Connor : I wish I could know.
They look at each other, but then Hank looks away and stands up.
Hank : It's late, I'm tired. I'm going back to the inn. Connor seems disappointed, but then Hank keeps going. Hank : You coming ?
When they enter the room they share all together, Nines is already in stasis and Gavin is snoring loudly.
Hank takes Connor's wrist silently, looking at him in the eyes as if tacitly asking for permission. Connor just lets himself be enveloped by wide arms, and rests his cheek on his collar bone.
Connor sighs, closing his eyes as he enjoys that nice bear hug. He feels that warm something in his chest growing in his body, invading his stomach with pleasing flutters.
Connor : Hank… Hank : Shhh… it would be embarrassing to wake those two idiots up now.
Connor bites his lower lip as he silently reaches for Hank's hand, his skin turning white as he presses gently each of his fingers against Hank's. It's known to be a quite intimate gesture among golems, and the closest human equivalence to it would be a kiss. Connor is aware that it could even be interpreted as indecent given how close their bodies are, and that if Nines was to wake up at that moment he would probably choke on thin air. Of course Hank has no clue about that and just thinks it's funny.
Hank : What, you wanna dance ?
Connor realizes they're holding each other on the left side and touching hands on the right side, and it seems like they're going to waltz. He chuckles from the absurdity of the situation from a human's perspective.
Connor : I wouldn't know how to. Hank : Good thing, I'm a terrible dancer. Connor : Ahah...hmm, Hank, I like it. Can we stay like this for a moment ? Hank : Sure.
X
One night in the middle of the desert, Gavin is on the watch as Hank sleeps in the tent. Connor is with him, but Nines inexplicably stays around the fire, silent. Gavin is bored out so he just starts the conversation.
Gavin : I feel like the old man and your stupid brother are getting along. Nines : I have this feeling too. Gavin : Doesn't bother you? Nines : What can I do ? I asked Connor to be careful, but I'm not blind… He's shining with glee whenever Hank is around him. I can't… force him not to feel. Also, I think Hank isn't that bad of a person… for a human. Gavin : Still certain we're the bad guys ? Think about it : you were made to serve us.  You betrayed your creators and let us starve like dogs. Nines : Humans didn't create us. Kamski did, and if he had wanted to, he could have made unthinking, obedient golems. Maybe we were meant to break free. Gavin : Oh yeah, so why can't you even procreate ? Simple answer: you were not designed to be an individual species from the start. You were built with no other purpose in life than to help us survive.  Nines : Didn't that even occur to you that humans did bad things too ? Gavin : We're just trying to survive ! Nines : So we are. Gavin : … So what ? You're saying we're two evils ? Of course we are. But I have to protect my people, you understand that ?
Nines stays silent, exploring the surprisingly genuine glare Gavin throws at him. Of course he understands that. His own despise for humanity is only driven by his deep desire to protect Connor, Marcus, and his people. He looks back at the fire heating them, unconsciously processing how ridiculously similar they are.
And yet, something starts growing in his mind, the irritating sensation his relationship with Gavin has changed from the moment they met, and that he unexpectedly wanted to protect him as well.
Nines : Would you kill me ?
He can't even explain how this sentence even made it out of his throat. He already knows the answer. Gavin stares at him longingly, noticeably surprised by the question. He stays silent as he puts more wood in the fire.
Gavin : If I had to, I probably would. But I… hum… don't want to. Nines : … hm. Gavin : What about you ? Would you kill me ? Nines : I don't know. If lives were at stake, certainly, even if I'd find this decision… regrettable. Gavin : ... Oh wow, is that your way to tell me you like me ? Nines : … Don't set your hopes too high.
Gavin breathes in a laugh and goes back to silence, smiling smugly.
X
They arrive in Nestlepeek and split in two teams, Hank and Connor go to the center of the town, where Connor hopes to find more precise information about Kamski and where he hides.
Gavin and Nines were supposed to go buy supplies, but as they head to the covered market, they are challenged by a man in the street to defeat his champion in a fight. As Nines realizes it's all for illegal gambling, Gavin accepts and finds himself in a cage, combating a birdman.
He thinks he's got the hang of it but as soon as the birdman starts flying Gavin can't touch him with his sword anymore and becomes vulnerable to his aerial attacks.
Nines : Gavin ! Summon the spirit ! Gavin : No way ! Nines : You'll lose if you don't ! Gavin : I know what I'm doing, alright !? Nines : You obviously don't ! Thunder magic gives you advantageous long throw attacks, you can't win against a flying foe with close combat techniques ! Gavin : I think I killed enough Golems to know how to fight flying foes ! Nines : You bastard…
Nines uses his snow magic to catch the champion in ice and immobilize him.
Owner : What the hell !!! Who did that ?! Nines : I did. I'll replace your champion, open the cage.
The owner is confused first but then he sees the opportunity and accepts. Nines enters the cage and gets ready to fight.
Gavin : … You wanna die ? Told you I could do it. Nines : We've been talking about this fight for ages. It's time to see what you're capable of.
They start fighting and they're pretty even for the first ten minutes. Their fight gathered a lot of gamblers and spectators.
When Nines starts to take advantage, Gavin's eyes suddenly turn bright yellow, and he charges at him : Nines can see the thunder magic halo surrounding him. He parries many strikes but Gavin has gained in speed and ferocity. Soon enough, Gavin throws him to one extremity of the cage, and as the crowd around them is screaming in excitement, Gavin holds up his dagger. He's trembling, electricity forming around his hand.
Nines can make eye contact but somehow, Gavin isn't answering his glare.
Nines : Gavin- You hear me ?
Gavin doesn't say anything, and Nines is sure he's gonna die when the human warrior shoots down his dagger… only to hit one of the cage's bars just behind him. Gavin closes his eyes, and opens them, showing blue-green orbs again, and he straightens up, breathless.
The crowd boos them as Gavin takes a step back and drops the other dagger. He asks the owner to open the cage and leaves the place, Nines following him, still out of breath as well.
Nines : Gavin !
Gavin stops, letting Nines get closer, until they face each other again.
Nines : You did it. You mastered the spirit… Do you realize that ? Gavin : I could have killed you, then everyone around me. That's what the spirit wanted to do… Do you realize that ? Nines : But you didn't. With a bit more training-... Gavin : I almost killed you, Nines, for fuck's  sake ! Nines : … So what ? Thought you were ready to. Gavin : Listen, this beast wanted you dead, everyone dead so bad… How can I… How can I use this power when I know how dangerous and unstable it is? Nines : … But you stopped it, right ? You can control it. Gavin : You fucker, if it wasn't for you, I know I couldn't have stopped it. I would have killed all those strangers, I know that, and I'm not… I'm not a murderer. Nines : … What do you mean, for me ? Gavin : Drop it. I need some air, don't follow me.
X
Hank and Connor enter the library, Connor is looking for the archived events-records to see if Kamski came into this village (which is most likely given it's the first one you can find after the desert)
It appears that the local people can fly so the library is very high, and most scales don't even reach the top of the bookshelves.
Hank : How the hell can we reach the archives ? Connor : Wait a minute, I'll go there and take some volumes with me.
Connor spreads his wings, that widen to support his weight as he takes off to the highest point of the library. Hank is impressed by how graceful Connor looks in the air. When the golem comes back with a consequential pile of old, handwritten books, he's just there, mouth open in amazement.
Connor : Here we go… the last 10 years of history in this village… Ready to pull an all-nighter ?
Hank doesn't reply.
Connor : Hank ? Hank : You're beautiful.
Connor blinks once, his lips slightly parted from the surprise, his eyes conveying nothing else than confusion and yet, low-key content.
Connor: ..I'm sorry ? Hank : When you fly I mean… that's impressive… and beautiful. Connor : Huh… Thank you, I guess ? Anyway hum… let's… let's find a table… Hank : “Thank you” ? But do you even realize how beautiful you are ? Connor : I was created to meet some human ideal. Why would I be proud of something that isn't my doing ? Hank : Ah, don't be so modest.  Connor : … you know, I think I find humans more attractive than Golems. Each one of you is unique, and I love everything you call “flaws”.
Hank laughs halfheartedly at his last line.
Hank : You don't make sense, kid.
X
They read the archives until it's dark outside. Hank can't help but yawn as Connor lights the candles to keep reading.
Connor : You can go back to the inn, Gavin must be there already, and Nines can take over. Hank : Nah, I'm good. Connor : Hm… Hank : You okay ? You look… worried. Connor sighs : … What if we can't find Kamski ? What if… I was wrong, what if we had to go back to Detroit and Jericho with just nothing ? I don't want to return to a situation where I'll have to fight you… I just can't.  Hank : … Yeah, I understand that. I don't think I can remain a Red Guard after what we've been through… After I got to know you. Connor : If we were to fail… nothing will never be the same again. Without you.
Hank just looks at Connor with sharp eyes, as if he's got the urge to say something. At this point Hank knows he's falling for the Golem, but of course, he won't say anything, because he's sure it's only one sided, Connor is so young and handsome he can't possibly feel the same.
Actually the dark haired golem is totally in love with the man, but again, he thinks Hank can't reciprocate his feelings since he's probably into women (after all he used to have a wife), and definitely not into Golems anyways. It just feels so unfair to both of them to consider going back to their normal life when they just want to stay with the other so bad. They just wish they could stay together and run away in some romantic and lovesick lunacy. Again, they won't tell each other about it.

The Red Guard and the Snow Angel
So here is some lore from my fantasy AU ! In this AU, Detroit is a human kingdom, in the north of the island. The city is in the glaciated territory, and because of the long year cold, humans have a hard time cultivating the lands.
Kamski is the magician who created Golems (magic equivalent to androids). Golems can work several days without feeling any tiredness, carry heavy loads and have no food requirements. They can use snow magic, which allows them to cultivate successfully the lands surrounding Detroit, and their ineffable beauty and eternal youth are as coveted as they are envied. Golems were first essentially used in the fields and farms, but as time passed, they started working in many places like bars, forges, inns, libraries, stables etc... Mostly doing physical work, but also as servants or dancers for some of them.
After the Night of the Cold Blooded (aka the Night of Freedom among Golems), Detroit lose most of the crops and herds, bringing a long unseen famine episode on the kingdom. The Red Guards, who used to have a function of maintaining order inside the city formed an army, and went after the escaped Golems, to capture them and enslave them again. But Golems fought back and that’s how the Merciless War started.
When the story begins, humanity and Golems are at war for years. Humans want to conquer the wild territory of Crystal Cove, where golems founded the free city Jericho. Golems defend Jericho with all they have but they lose units with every new battle, and unlike humans, they can’t give birth. They are only 100 left when the story begins, and they just survive, knowing one day, the last golem will die, taking with them the evidence of their very existence.
In this universe, Hank Anderson, said Bear Paw, has lost his wife and son on that bloody night, in a fire caused by some androids trying to escape. He hates androids from that day.Hank is a very famous warrior from the Red Guard. He's a lieutenant and has a giant dog, a beast he calls Sumo. He's very appreciated by Detroit's people since he's a good hunter, and a good, kind man with that, even though his grief made him more bitter and cynical than before. He fights with an axe named Feather.
Gavin Reed, said The Scar, was young when the Night of the Cold Blooded happened. He only knows his mother was killed that night, and that his father’s never gotten over it. Gavin grew up thinking golems were evil and were the reason he was miserable for most of his life, his father neglecting him. He decided to become a warrior and join the Red Guard to go after the bloodthirsty golems lurking outside and kill them. More than personal revenge, he also knows Detroit's inhabitants need golems to work in the field again to make the famines stop. He's got his scar from the Night of the Cold Blooded. He's known to be a bragging arrogant warrior, but he's deadly efficient. He fights with a sword named Whistler.
Connor and Nines used to serve the same human when they were still slaves, Their neighbor were Marcus’s and Kara’s owners, so they lived all together for a long time before the Night of Freedom. Marcus became the leader of the revolution, and Golems all followed him to Crystal Cove to found Jericho, the free city. The city is often attacked by humans, and more and more Golems die : in front of their decreasing number, Connor realizes they can’t survive like this, and decides to try to find Kamski.
He knows Golems can’t go through the Summer Falls, because they’re weak to fire magic, which means he needs to find a human and get him to join his quest.
Since Marcus and Nines won’t let him leave Jericho, because they need him to help defending the city, he escapes one night and walks deep into the wood, to find that one human who’s going to help him.

Gavin and Nines’ first encounter
Hank’s scars
Gavin’s scars
The Red Guard and the Snow Angel
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3
Gavin is looking at the last fire Hank and Connor lit. The ashes are cold and damp. He looks at the footprints, they're barely visible but he can still identify Hank and another person's footprints.
Gavin : Where're you going old man ? And who's coming with you ?
*Noises behind him.* He reaches for his sword but the other person is too fast.
Gavin : Who the fuck--- A Golem ?! Nines : Be quiet, human. And don't move, or you'll lose your head. Gavin : What the fuck you doing here, snowman ?! Nines : Why are you following this track ? Gavin : None of your fucking business! Nines : Where did they go ?
Gavin realizes.
Gavin : … You can't track them… you don't know how. How long have you been following me, bastard ? Nines : Answer me, human, or I'm killing you.  Gavin : You know what ? Go to hell.
x
Hank : You hear that ? Connor : What ? I can hear many things, unlike you. Be more precise. Hank : The wind. It's rising. A snowstorm is coming. Connor : So ? Hank : We need to find a cave or something, and gather wood to survive. Connor : You're fucking kidding me ? We can't stop again ! We need to go forward ! Hank : Do as you want. I'm not risking the Frostbite for a fucking golem. Connor : What the hell is a Frostbite ? Hank : There is a snow spirit in these woods… it curses us, humans, whenever they’re caught in a snowstorm. It bites us and his magic freezes our blood. Connor : ...Humans are so weak. I should have gone through this wood by myself.  Hank : As I said, smartass, do as you want.
x
Gavin is gagged and attached on his horse. Nines is walking in front of them, guiding the horse. The wind rises up.
Gavin : Hmmmpf !!! Hummmmppf !! Nines : Be quiet. Gavin : Hmmmhmmmmhmmpf !!! *Nines sighs* Nines takes the gag down.
Nines : What. Gavin : A snowstorm is coming ! We need to find them before it starts or we'll lose the track ! Anderson must be looking for a shelter, we have to join them or we're gonna catch the Frostbite. Nines : What nonsense are you saying… Gavin : I'm not dying because you don't take it seriously. Untie me ! Nines : If you try to escape me… Gavin : I'm not suicidal, snowman. This storm is gonna kill me faster than you.
Nines stares at the human suspiciously but finally unties him
Gavin : That way, and hurry up, snowy prick !
x
The storm is violent outside. Hank is in the cave but he checks his body and he's got the frostbite on his arm.
Hank : … shit. Connor : … You've got it ? How ? Hank : Humans… truly can't go through this forest it seems. Not since the magician vanished. Connor : There must be a remedy! I can't lose more time going back to find another human for this quest. Hank : Yeah, people say silent stars can cure it. It's … a white flower that grows in the forest… But I'll die from this curse before the storm settles. Connor : I'm immune to snow magic! I'll find that flower. I need you, human. You hear me ? Don't die yet.
x
Connor is walking in the snowstorm.
Nines : Connor ! Connor : … Nines ? What… are you doing here? And who's this ???
Gavin is unconscious, thrown on the back of his own horse like a potato sack.
Nines : I found him following your track a few days ago, I used his knowledge to find you. Connor : He's barely conscious… he must be covered with Frostbites… Nines : … Oh yeah, he said something about this… curse or whatever. It doesn't matter now, I don't need him anymore. Connor : Take him to the cave, it's just a few steps behind me. Nines : What ? No, Connor, I'm here to take you back to Jericho.  Connor : I said I wouldn't go back before I find the magician. We have a chance to stop this cycle of hatred and violence, we have to try. Nines : So where are you going ? Connor : The human I choose to come with me, he's got Frostbite curse like yours. I have to find silent stars to save them. Nines : You wanna save the humans ? Connor : Nines, we need them.
Nines sighs in front of Connor’s stubbornness, but takes the horse to the cave just behind his brother.
x
Gavin : Hnnn… Where… Where am I… Hank : In a cave. Gavin : Bear Paw ?... I found you… Hank : Why did you do that ? Gavin :... Thought you were capturing golems... wanted to claim half of the merit… Hank : Of course. Gavin : I always thought… I'd die on the battlefield.  Hank : Yeah, me too. With some chance, we'll get a remedy. Gavin : Sure, old man… it's gonna fall from the sky.  Hank : The golems went out to get some silent stars...  Gavin : Oh well, we're screwed … they're gonna give us up... Hank : …
x
Nines : You don't even know where exactly he is. Connor : But I know where to look. He's a powerful and eccentric magician. I'll find him one way or another. Nines : If you die trying to find him, Jericho will lose a ferocious defender, and Markus and I will lose a brother. Connor : Stop treating me like I'm unconscious! This situation is going to kill us all. We all need a long term solution, we can't keep… running into a wall like this ! Nines : We… You mean, humans too ? Connor : I just said we needed a long term solution. Don't overthink it.  Nines : …
Nines is silent for a short moment, looking at Connor's back as he keeps walking in the snowstorm.
Nines : I'm going with you then. If the human tries something against you, I'll kill him and we'll go back to Jericho. Deal ? Connor : I can take care of an old guy like him by myself, thanks.
x
They arrive at the cave.
Connor : Hey. We have the flowers. Hank : …
Hank looks at the golem in confused disbelief.
Connor : Well, you look surprised ? Come on, do your potion or whatever. Hurry. Hank : … Uh.
x
Hank : The storm settles. We can leave tomorrow in the morning. Connor : Alright. I checked out the surroundings yesterday, we should go southeast, it'll be easier for Sumo. Gavin : I'm coming.  Hank : Out of question. You go back to Detroit, Fowler's gonna need more hunters now I'm gone. It's finally your time to shine. Gavin : You not my father, old man. If you really find Kamski I want to be part of it. If you don't, well, we can still take those two fuckers back to Detroit. I won't let you have all the glory. Nines : I agree. I don't want to let the little human go back to his city with the informations he has. We keep him or we kill him. Gavin : Hey, watch your mouth snowman ! I'm average in height.  Nines : Be grateful, little human, we saved your life. Gavin : You mean you left me for dead. And don't fucking call me little ! Connor : Here we are ! Braverive… Gavin : Finally. I need a bath. And a bed. Hank : Be careful, alright ? If anyone sees you're golems, you're screwed.
x
The four men get to walk through the forest and reach the human outpost, Braverive. They find an inn to spend the night. The golems don’t need to sleep so they just take two bedrooms, for Hank and Gavin. Hank enters his room.
Hank : You sure you don't need a bed ? Connor : I can go in stasis standing up. I don't need to though. We barely need rest, but stasis is recommended at least once a week. Hank : Alright. I'm worn out... G'night.
Connor watches as Hank takes his clothes off, until he only wears underwear. He has many scars, and the Golem can’t help but admire them in silent admiration. He knows those scars have been made by Golems but still... they show how skilled and ferocious of a warrior the human is. Connor admits those scars are... hot, in a way.
Hank sits in the bed and looks up.
Hank : Hey. Connor : Hm ?
Hanks tosses him some cash.
Hank : Here, take your brother and use that money to buy a… decent outfit. Connor :... What's indecent with this one ? Hank : I'm sleeping. Don't talk to me.
x
Hank is awake, he looks by the window. Connor comes back from the market, where he seemingly bought human's traveling clothes, and enters the room.
Connor : You can't sleep ? Hank : Hm… I sleep better when I'm… outside. Connor : I thought humans enjoyed beds and comfort. Hank : Sleeping in a bed… reminds me of a night I wish I could forget. Connor : The night of Freedom ? Hank : The night your people set fire to my neighborhood in order to escape. The night I lost my family. Remember that part, Connor ? When you killed innocent people... Connor : … You blame us for fighting for freedom… I know... you're right. Many innocents perished that night. Not only on my side, I admit that. Hank : … So… all I can do is… blaming that stupid war ? Connor : … I'm sure we can put an end to it. I'm sure Kamski will… give us a solution. For both our peoples.
x
Gavin is sleeping, the sun is getting into the room. He's naked and has a lot of scars on his body, and bruises everywhere the Frostbite curse struck. Nines watches the marks silently. Golems can’t get scars... so it kinda mesmerizes him to see those darker lines on the human’s body. Somehow, it feels like Gavin is wearing other people’s marks on his body... That tells a story, not a pretty one, but a story nonetheless. Nines wonders if Gavin remembers who did each one of his scars... He wonders if he could mark him as well. Like... a trophy.
Gavin : You like what you see ?
Nines snaps out of his contemplation. Gavin sits up, rubbing his eyes
Nines : All of those are battle scars. Gavin : Jealous ? No one who has let a trace on this body has survived, so be careful to not damage me in the future. Nines : How many of my brothers and sisters did you kill ? Gavin : I lost count. Nines : … Who did the one on your nose ? Gavin  : ...Who cares.  He's dead anyway.

The Red Guard and the Snow Angel
Stormy Lands concept art
The Thunder War Spirit’s seal concept art
Gavin and the thunder war spirit
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
On the stormy lands.
Gavin : It's been raining for days. I just want to see a fucking fire now. And feel dry again. Connor : The man from Braverive said there was a city in the middle of the thunder desert… We should be close. Hank : I really need a dry bed. I'm too old for this shit…  Gavin : Rheumatism, old man ?
They see a cave
Hank : Shut up. Let's just stop for the night.
X
Gavin wakes up in the middle of the night Nines and Connor are in stasis, Hank is sleeping.
??? : ℌ𝔲𝔪𝔞𝔫… ℑ 𝔠𝔞𝔫 𝔣𝔢𝔢𝔩 𝔶𝔬𝔲𝔯 𝔱𝔥𝔦𝔯𝔰𝔱… 𝔗𝔥𝔦𝔯𝔰𝔱 𝔣𝔬𝔯 𝔭𝔬𝔴𝔢𝔯… 𝔣𝔬𝔯 𝔰𝔱𝔯𝔢𝔫𝔤𝔱𝔥… ℌ𝔲𝔪𝔞𝔫, 𝔠𝔬𝔪𝔢 𝔱𝔬 𝔪𝔢…
Gavin walks away from the camp and goes deeper in the cave. There is a stone shining orange/yellow in the dark blue night.
???  : ℑ 𝔠𝔞𝔫 𝔪𝔞𝔨𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔭𝔬𝔴𝔢𝔯𝔣𝔲𝔩. Gavin : … And what do you want from me ? ???  : … 𝔜𝔬𝔲𝔯 𝔟𝔬𝔡𝔶.
Gavin touches the stone and a huge lightning strikes from the dark grey clouds. Connor, Nines and Hank are awakened by the sound of thunder, and then Gavin's scream. A thunder spirit is invading the cave, transferring from the stone to Gavin's body.
Hank : What the hell ?!
The magic flows into Gavin's nape, forming a golden seal.
Connor : Nines ! His neck !
Nines sees the seal and hits the spot with an ice arrow. The thunder vanishes from the cave but the seal remains on Gavin's neck. Gavin drops on his knees, in shock, trembling and breathing heavily.
Hank : You okay kid ? What happened ?
Hank turns to Nines
Hank : How did you know you had to hit the neck ? Connor : We're magic creatures. We have seals too, we know they're a weakness. Hank : So… What was that ? Nines : A thunder war spirit.
*Nines looks at the stone*
Nines : This one was sealed in that cave... Somehow, Gavin unleashed it and now... he hosts it.
X
NB : So, the people that live in the stormy lands sealed the thunder war spirit in that cave a long long time ago. The first generations used to educate fighting monks to watch the cave but as time passed, it became a legend and now fighting monks are sent to other strategic points. The cave and the thunder war spirit that, in the past, devastated the Stormy Lands with bestial ferocity are now almost forgotten.
The war spirit was waiting for a suitable host to come by, someone already powerful and skilled in the arts of combat, but also spirited and ambitious, because those emotions fuels it. Its purpose is to take control of the body it possesses using negative emotions. Attacking the seal that appears on Gavin's neck stunts the spirit and seals it again for an unkown period of time. The only way to control the spirit is to use a goal as a channel, and redirect the thunder power to serve this purpose. The control can be absolute when the host has a steel motivation.
The basic victims of the war spirit are theoretically unable to have higher purposes in life than their own interests, so they always end up being totally under the spirit's influence and are killed to give full control of their bodies.
X
Gavin is outside, touching his neck, lost in his thoughts. It's raining and he's drenched. Nines glares at him from the entrance of the cave.
Nines : You should be dead.
Gavin  doesn't even turn his head to stare back at the golem.
Gavin : Heard this already. Nines : Elemental war Spirits are powerful. Humans… Most humans actually couldn't even contain their magic. That’s... quiet impressive. Gavin : … It's lurking inside… waiting for the best moment to kill me, I can feel it.
Gavin sighs and closes his eyes, his fingers still tracing the edges of his new scar.
Anyway. I can't believe you left a scar there. Scars in the back are made when you run away… and I've never run away.  Nines : … Now you can't say you killed everyone who left you with a scar. Gavin : Who knows, I could still kill you. Nines : … Don't be ridiculous. You can't even defend your own body. How could you pretend to be strong enough to kill me ? Gavin : Don't underestimate me, snowy prick.
X
Gavin is still outside, in the pouring rain. Hank is standing by the entrance of the cave.
Hank : Hey… How do you feel ? Gavin :... Weird.  Hank : ...You know, we fight from time to time, but we're brothers in arms, in the Red Guard… Nice to know you're okay. Gavin : … Hm… ...Hey Hank… If I… Die during this mission… I want a tombstone… next to my mother. And I… I want you to visit it, sometimes. I doubt that anyone is gonna remember me… except you, because I was a pain in your ass. Hank : Pff. Don't think about it now. Just be careful in the future, alright ?
X
Hank's frowning in pain, groaning. Connor rises up his head.
Connor : You okay ? Hank : … That little brat was right… I have an old injury on my back… this constant rain is making it so sore… Dammit. Connor : Does this make it better ?
Connor applies his hand on Hank's back, using snow magic.
Hank : … Yeah, it… actually works. Connor : Cold sooth pain. Markus knows healing magic, he tried to teach me but I'm way better at fighting.  Hank : … What was your job ? When you were still in Detroit ? Connor : I worked a long time in Amanda Stern's fields. And some time before the Night of Freedom, she asked me to clean up and classify her books. I… I read them when she wasn't around. She had a lot of books about Kamski and magic. Hank : That's how you had this idea ? Connor : … One book actually says something that… intrigues me. Hank: ? Connor : "The key to our prosperity lays in…" And the end was never written. If we knew that maybe… Our people could finally find peace.

During the trip, Hank and Connor grow fond of one other. Hank likes Connor's capacity to analyze things and is low key impressed by his knowledge and his fighting skills, they even start to spar together. Connor happens to be interested in human sciences, and they end up talking philosophy a lot.
Connor feels intrigued by Hank, and starts feeling this "warm feeling" that puzzles him. Hank slowly realizes golems might not be totally responsible for what happened to his family, and starts showing empathy to Connor.
One night in an inn, Hank can't sleep, as usual, so Connor takes him out. They walk around the town, Hank talks about the Golden Age in Detroit, and the beautiful night market that was organized once a month. Connor says he remembers it. Golems weren't allowed in it, but he liked to watch the lights and hear the music from afar. When they get back to the room, Hank goes back into the bed and actually falls deep asleep. Connor stays there and looks at him as he sleeps, and can't help but think about how beautiful his silver thin hair looks in the moonlight. He brushes his hand, and it's so warm, a warmth that echoes his feelings. He just sits down near the bed and stays there, lost in his thoughts.
Nines doesn't like that Connor gets closer to Hank. He recognizes Hank is somehow well behaved and… righteous compared to Gavin, but he's still a HUMAN and he thinks Connor is forgetting they are not on the same side. Connor doesn't want to hear anything from his brother, because "I know what I'm doing okay ?". And he's embarrassed to think his brother might understand he's developing affection for Hank. Also, Connor is totally oblivious to Nines and Gavin's growing connection.

On the other hand, Nines relates to Gavin more than he would like to : they're actually pretty similar in the way they think. Gavin doesn't believe they'll even reach and find Kamski, he's just sticking around to make sure he'll be able to capture the androids when they fail, to take them back to Detroit and get all the glory. Nines is accompanying Connor because he doesn't trust the humans and is ready to kill them without batting an eyelid if they tried anything.
One day he finds Gavin in a sandy combe, training. Nines doesn't really know how, cause they didn't even say anything to each other, but he joins him in his training. Gavin admits the thunder spirit has made him really powerful and that he was sure he would be able to kill him, but this time, he wasn't bragging… His words sound like self realization, and Gavin doesn't seem that happy about it.
Nines provokes him saying "Show me" but Gavin shrugs. He says "I don't want to summon it… it would kill me too."
Nines asks Gavin if he is scared of the spirit, and Gavin looks away for a minute. "I'm a human. Humans are vulnerable  to magic, that's why we fight it. But now… magic is part of me… How am I supposed to feel safe with this beast inside me, all the time ?"
Nines can't believe he replies "Beasts can be tamed. Magic can be controlled. Fear can be overcome. Just work on that instead of doing bulk up."
Gavin stays silent and Nines starts to walk off but then he turns around to face Gavin again and says "I can show you how."
The man hesitates but finally accepts.

OKAY SO it's stupid (and I know it) but I've been feeling anxious about leaving comments lately 😭 (I'm sorry I have no control over this 😢)
SO I'm gonna say right now just how much I appreciate your series 🥺💕 The plot and the ship content is SO GOOD like you want to know more about what's going on, and you also want to see Gavin and Nines KISS ALREADY XD (and the Hankcon content is killing me because it's my otp and Hank is feeling bad and I'm sad about it and and aaand Connor is worried THE FEELINGS AHHH MY HEART 😭)
And this AU you created, The Red Guard and the Snow Angel ? I'M ADDICTED TO IT
Like first of all their designs are so pretty 🥺😭💕
And the story is both close enough of the original canon game to be logical (at least for my brain X3) and far enough to be a very good and original AU 😍
I don't know if you plan on showing us more, but I'd definitely love to see what's going to happen to them 😭💕
And the image you put as the banner of your blog ? IT'S ADORABLE
Okay okay I don't want to write a novel so I'm going to stop here X3
I hope you're having a wonderful day 🥺💕
(btw if I ever were to find time to do some TRGATSA drawings would it be okay ?
Because I love their designs ahhh
I just want to be suuure 👉👈)
Don’t worry !
None of your feelings is stupid, even if it seems unfounded : don’t be sorry for feeling them, it’s not your fault, but the society’s for being such an insecure place lately. I just want you (and everyone) to know this blog is a safe place to share, comment and ask questions !  😊
I’m really glad you like Another day ! And I’m even more glad you appreciate my stuff knowing Hankcon is your OTP (I’ve been told Hankcon was taking kind of a back seat here lately, but I didn’t realize it... so I’m glad Hankcon lovers are still loving my posts) ! That 3rd season is a bit more centered on Reed900 but there will still be some Hankcon development in that season  😉
Also !!! I also love the designs I did for TRGATSA, so THANK YOU ! I’ll post more about this AU, don’t worry, and I still have some concept arts for the coming updates. I have the whole story written in my docs (remember that I wanted to draw a comic ?), so I’ll ofc give you the whole story, and when I can, I’ll try to illustrate it with sketches and concept arts !
And of course, if you want to draw something for the AU, please do it ! I’d love to see that, so don’t hesitate to tag me if you post the fanarts !  😋
Also yep ! the banner hehehe, I was waiting for people to see it ! I’m glad you like it !
Hope you have a good day as well !
