Submastober / Submas Sharetober Day 6!
Sharetober Inspiration: Sebek Zigvolt from Twisted Wonderland!
Tumblr media
I was actually into Twisted Wonderland before I was into Submas. Sebek wasn't even really on my radar until the Kelkkarotu event, and I went into that event mostly wanting to see Jade. But, ever since then, I've been looking into Sebek!
And then I started to notice that he and ddIngo have a lot of things in common once ddIngo has redeemed himself sufficiently. They are both LOUD talkers, like to look crisp, and very boisterous about how much they care about the people important to them. Both have three people they're very dedicated to, and respond to being chastised in very similar ways!
There's more ways, certainly, but those are the most direct and obvious ways.
As for the dorms, early ddIngo would be in Diasomnia, but later ddIngo could fit in really well in Scarabia because of the dorm's tendency towards deliberate thought and thought-out plans.
Mermmet would be Savanaclaw due to his energetic and athletic nature. He's strong and would enjoy sports! (Yes, he's a mermaid but I don't know that he's got the ability to read the atmosphere enough, even though he's quite capable of self-sufficiency. )
ddEmmet would fit really well in Octavinelle because he excels in understanding others and is surprisingly capable of manipulation - he uses it to help himself and others understand their feelings, but it could be used for more devious means. He's also something of a romantic, and the idea of granting wishes would appeal strongly to him.
Wife Ingo would probably be in Heartslabyul due to his tendency to put a lot of weight on rules and societal expectations. If his brothers were all in Diasomnia, though, I could see him fitting in well there as well. He likes to protect those important to him!

This one's a doozy - Today's submastober! Inspired by the song 'Gallery Piece' by of Montreal ! Great bop of a song, but pretty intense in subject matter (an intense toxic relationship)!
I came across it in a TomGreg fancam. And I do think it actually suits TomGreg way more, give its themes of an intense and toxic relationship.
But I just like the song XD I don't really see lads this way, but I think it would be interesting to explore. Especially with Submas Darkfic, where its more onesided and dubious. I do like reading those! But in the end, I prefer them to be sweet loverboys 😌

Submastober / Submas Sharetober Day 3!
Scopophobia warning! I've tagged for it as well, so blacklists should find it, but just in case!
Sharetober Inspiration: Megazone23 (1985) - old-school cyber punk anime.
Here's an early sketch of A.I.mmet! @glassesblu recently posted a pic with more updated character designs! However, my very first visual idea of him was as something quite unsettling, a stare that isn't as warm as it could be. Operating something like a digital model, he would talk to users from a 'digital space' that was neon and brightly lit - when the users acted rudely, or implied he wasn't real, he would get much more sinister. He would lean closer to the camera, stare and talk directly to the camera as though he was addressing the person that crossed the line. Of course, this would also backlight him, making his face in shadow, upping the ominous vibe.
Tumblr media
As for the inspiration! So I'm old enough to remember when anime wasn't really a thing in America. They had to prove that anime was *adult* and *hardcore*! Megazone23 was one of the anime that was constantly being played before the actual anime I was trying to watch - back on vhs.
It never really caught my attention, especially since I expected the dub to be terrible with unnecessary changes to the dialogue solely to be "cool."
Earlier this year, I decided to finally watch it! And well, it wasn't really the Classic Anime I was hoping for. I didn't actually even care for the characters in it (I found the main character rather annoying) and the story missed out on a lot of cool ideas after introducing them. (I couldn't tolerate the second movie though haha.) BUT it gave me some really good ideas for A.I. characters and their use in public spaces. The Subway Bosses are public figures so what if their likenesses were used to make things better and more accessible and other such things. After all, they can't be everywhere all at once.
Link to the movie below the cut! However, warning-! There is violence and some nudity/sexual content in the movie.

Submastober / Submas Sharetober Day 9!
Sharetober Inspiration: Chou No Mori by Rurutia
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This song just has a mysterious and somewhat eerie quality to it. Back when I didn't understand any Japanese, I thought maybe the song was about a forest filled with Yokai, but in reality it's more serious than that, forlorn and yet with a glimmer of hope. The forest that's filled with light and darkness made me think of the twins, mysterious beings that simultaneously light the darkness for those lost and cast shadow for those looking to hide.

Sharetober Inspiration: Snow Country by Kenji Kawai, Nobunaga's Ambition Online OST.
@feroluce! This is a dual inspiration! Your thoughts and ideas and stories are always amazing. I love reading through them; the way that you connect lore and realistic responses (especially in tragedies) is just so wowowow!
So! The music I attached just gives me such strong Nobori vibes after he's arrived in Hisui. The song has always given me really complex emotions - I feel like there's a mix of melancholy and wonder, of being faced with a beautifully inhospitable landscape. Something about the music feels like it occurs at night; a person standing in a completely dark house, possibly a traditional Japanese castle-like structure, but the snow completely covering the landscape glows brightly in the moonlight.
I go absolutely bonkers when I think about Nobori knowing how to play the flute.
Is this a skill he's always had, a musical talent that he enjoyed quietly back when he still lived in Raimon? Did he learn the flute because it allowed him to mimic Litwick/Lampent/Chandelure's cries better? He knows his partner can understand his words and feelings, but isn't it nice to try and emulate their sounds as well? Does he play for Kudari, helping his brother relax after a long day. Kudari talks about liking to sing in Masters; do Kudari and Nobori duet together?
Or, is it something he's picked up in Hisui, something that required dedication in order to distract himself? He's already so good at battling, and while he can always improve his skills, whatever made battling so fun seems out of his reach right now. But this, learning something new, pulls his mind away from his loneliness, his despair at not understanding anything about his situation, his ache for something that's missing.
Does he play for the Man in White that lurks at the edge of his memory. Does he hope his haunting melody will draw that Man's form out of that endless white that stretches to the treeline? Will it even be recognized as him reaching out when he doesn't even know himself? Would that Man know him, even like this, even in this music that stumbles with his slowly numbing fingers.
And if not? Who is he playing for? Is it for himself? Is it for those that allowed him to stay with them, even though he knows nothing but how to battle?
The thoughts are overwhelming, so he just lets himself be lost in the song that he plays to the cold winter night.

Submastober / Submas Sharetober Day 10!
Sharetober Inspiration: Detective Conan Title: We Are Who We Are, Even When We Aren't Word count: 1303 Synopsis: Kudari and Nobori are rich, complex people who are much beloved by both their employees and the people who visit the Subway. But maybe they aren't who they say. Dynamic: Nobori x Kudari
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
Sometimes, it was easy to forget why he'd come here, to this Subway in Raimon City. He could get caught up in the idea of challenging trainers and awarding BP for wins, cheering those that bested him with as much enthusiasm as to those that lost.
If he asked a random passenger, or even their Depot Agents, certainly their answers would echo the same: he was here to rise to ever greater skill heights with his twin brother. Of course, everyone knew about that - he and Kudari frequently voiced this to challengers as well as in interviews. Having greatly skilled trainers come to them instead of being sought out made their wishes to improve that much easier.
But then, that wouldn't be the only thing that was easier with such a set-up.
No, in fact, none of that was the true reason he and Kudari had come to Raimon City, making a bold statement with their expressions and strict color coding. Marching directly to the Mayor's office, they showed off with dramatic poses and unique methods of speech. When it was accepted that they got the very first double Master position, they insisted on the creation of special matching uniforms. Lines were divvied up according to their particular instructions. Their names spread far and wide immediately, and some even likened them to the great dragons Reshiram and Zekrom.
It was once in a lifetime luck. None of that was standard procedure for going into deep cover. Usually, it was best to subtly slip in and work your way up the ranks, provide yourself a history. Flashy actions were warned against, because they got you noticed too fast by all the wrong people. Especially in the case of twins, they were already noticeable without all the extra flair.
However, such a long-term deep undercover mission required them to work together - neither of them were willing to let the other go alone. The worry would absolutely consume them, since they had been close since childhood. It had been Kudari's idea to remain twins during this mission; he claimed it would be weird to not see his brother's face when he looked in the mirror. He understood what Kudari was saying - if their fake personas were anything other than twins, he'd surely get a shock every time he looked to his twin. Still, he would have explained it a bit differently.
In any case, they went full-steam ahead with their plan to be these stand-out twins.
Nobori chuckled slightly to himself, bemused that even in his thoughts he was now using train-puns and vocabulary. It had become ever so easy now, and he silently thanked the extensive research he'd put into his persona's interests.
"Ingo!"
At the sound of his brother's call, Nobori turned crisply, hands behind his back. "Emmet! How did your battle go?" Stopping with a little bounce, Kudari was quite obviously full of energy. Surely, he must have faced an incredibly strong trainer.
"I am Emmet! It went great! Did you know? Many strong trainers come every day! But a really strong one came today and made it all the way to me." Enthusiastic, Kudari brought his hands up in fists, shaking them with barely contained excitement. He was practically hopping in place. An excellent battle, then.
At first, it had been so strange to hear his brother speak in such clipped, simple ways. Top of their graduating class, with Nobori immediately behind him, Kudari was a highly skilled orator. It was important to him to express himself clearly, but eloquently. In fact, Kudari had helped train Nobori on the speech patterns that he now used. But at the same time, he had always sounded so serious and distant - his scholarly tone would offer no opportunity to question him, and held utmost authority.
Something else, too, became different now that his brother Kudari was his brother Emmet.
When they were younger, Kudari's smiles were subtle, small things that only Nobori could really notice. It was not severe like the frown that Nobori now wore as Ingo, but his brother's mostly neutral expression often led people to believe his mood to be ever-sour.
In their actual line of work, Kudari could never let his guard down during their normal cases. Their true work was dangerous but necessary, and although it was one they willingly entered, the circumstances that led to it were messy and still hurt his heart to think on. But here, in Raimon's Battle Subway, he could have a fun day, talking casually to passengers, joking around with the Agents, and facing against challengers who sought to prove themselves. It was so far removed from their actual job, but Kudari had been the one to suggest these personas.
All of that left Nobori wondering if this was the ideal life that Kudari wished for.
He would not say that Kudari was unhappy before but...
As he watched Kudari eagerly recount the battle that he'd just experienced, Nobori never imagined living this life could have impacted Kudari so positively. He smiled so much now - when they first were developing these personas, it was a strain for Kudari to smile so broadly. Over time, though, the smile became more natural and brighter. He laughed way more often. Unlike before, they had enough free time to try restaurants and talk walks through the bustling night life of the city on a whim. Were he engaging in these activities with anyone but his twin, any onlooker would think they were on dates.
And with this thought in the back of his mind, Nobori found himself falling in love with his brother the more he saw his happiness shine through.
It was... improper to be sure. Not only was he falling in love with his twin, but it was happening while they were hiding their true identities. Such a revelation could easily be misconstrued. He feared that confessing this to his twin could be interpreted as him "preferring" Emmet to his true brother. Such a thing couldn't be farther from the truth. In fact, he would argue that this *was* his true brother.
"I am Emmet. I think Ingo is no longer listening!"
Snapping his attention back onto Kudari, Nobori blinked. It was true, he had been caught in his thoughts, content in his twin's presence.
"Ah, my apologies, Emmet. I did not mean to rudely become distracted in my own head."
Kudari gave him a smirk, which to outsiders was only visible in the narrowing of his eyes. His smile, Emmet's smile, remained in a pointed v. "Ingo better be thinking of dinner. That is the only thing that could be more important than a good battle!" Putting his fists on his hips, Kudari straightened his shoulders and nodded his head.
It was too endearing. Nobori wasn't sure how much longer he could last without telling his brother about the feelings that had developed within him.
"Indeed. In fact, I was thinking of treating you to that new cafe you were eyeing on our walk to work today." Kudari perked up, dropping his hands from his hips as he stared with great interest. "Cloud informed me of a special menu event they are hosting. It would be a most excellent station to stop at on our track home."
"A treat! A treat! Ingo's treat!" Kudari whirled around on his heel, beginning to walk back to their office in large swinging strides. Following along and quickly catching up to walk next to his twin, Nobori clasped his hands behind his back. If the opportunity arose to inform his twin of how he was feeling, then so be it.
For now, he would think how best to prove to his brother that his love was true and not merely a quirk of their current identities.

Submastober / Submas Sharetober Day 4!
Sharetober Inspiration: Tsukiyomi by King & Prince (2022)
So, like, did @glassesblu and I ever talk about the AU spinoff where ddIngo is in a boyband?
Tumblr media
After a ton of improvement and growth and reconciliation, the four Death Train AU lads (Wife Ingo, ddEmmet, Mermmet and ddIngo) finally get to be reincarnated together as a quartet!
ddIngo is the eldest, and he's aware of his attraction to his brothers fairly early on, and through a series of chastisements comes to think he's 'manipulating' his younger brothers. He relieves the pressure he feels by embracing a club lifestyle - he goes out and parties, drinks, and plays around with people. This causes him to put his beloved brothers at a bit of an arm's length, adding in to the distance that later causes the quadruplets to separate. He does not get along with their parents at all, and their arguments push him out of the house more and more often.
Wife Ingo is the second oldest, and is very rigorous with his studies, feeling as though he bears the burden of their parents' expectations. After all! ddIngo is just playing around all the time. Wife Ingo feels disappointment and frustration in ddIngo in equal measure, but it also bothers him because that is still his older brother who is precious to him. He's always doting on Mermmet and ddEmmet, but feels the most shame out of the four about his brotherly love. He is a transman, and more than one person has gotten a bloody lip from ddIngo for trying to say Wife Ingo is not their identical brother.
Mermmet is the third oldest, and mostly goes with the flow of the others. He is a big crybaby, easily getting teary over things that may seem inconsequential to others. Cheerful and energetic, he is the strongest of the brothers. Openly affectionate to his brothers, he is somewhat confused by the idea that they would have anything to hide about how much they love each other.
ddEmmet is the youngest, the "baby" of the group. He's the most emotionally rounded and mature, but is extremely dedicated and protective of his brothers. When he was younger, he realized he really liked kissing with Mermmet, and even engaged in it with ddIngo a few times. When he was younger, he found some of the severe adult stuff that ddIngo was exploring online and saw things he was not emotionally ready for - this is what instigated ddIngo to feel like he was corrupting his brothers.
There's a pretty big fallout between ddIngo and Wife Ingo in their late teens, each saying things to each other that they later regret. Because of the tension, and a few other things, the quadruplets temporarily go their separate ways.
ddEmmet refuses to let that be the end of it, and he's been keeping in contact with Mermmet. In fact, he and Mermmet move in together as soon as they're independent.
Soon, they rope in ddIngo, because he is not fighting with them and in fact misses them very much. Since they last saw him, he and his club buddies have actually taken their love of dancing into a career. Now, he is the front dancer in a quite successful male dance group who perform at various venues. Because it's ddIngo, he's also the 'playboy' of the group, but it doesn't go beyond flirting since he's realized he only wants to be with his brothers.
Mermmet and ddEmmet reveal to ddIngo that they are open to a romantic relationship, and so they become a throuple.
They need to convince Wife Ingo to join them in their loving relationship! ddEmmet comes up with an elaborate plan in order to show Wife Ingo how much they miss him, love him, and want him to come live with them. He has to reign in ddIngo and Mermmet, who are a little more impulsive and want to just go and confess right away!
--~~*~~--
As for the inspiration, I found this band shortly before three of the members left, so that's a little sad! But they were going for multiple years, so there's a pretty big backlog!
The then-center (Hirano Sho) in this song is pretty much what I imagine ddIngo to be like. He puts his whole body into the dance moves! It's fun watching him dance! At first I wasn't super into the video because I don't really like the outfits, but the song's a banger and watching their moves and footwork, it's pretty impressive!

Title: Forbidden Separation Word count: 1053 Synopsis: Separated from his brother, Kudari takes stock of the unusual and dangerous situation he finds himself in. Dynamic: No obvious dynamic, take your pick. Sharetober Inspiration: Forbidden Siren (2003, PS2), a stealth-based survival horror game.
One of my favorite horror games, I love the eerie atmosphere and the unique method by which it tells its story. The characters are varied and interesting, with reveals having strong impacts nearly every time. I've linked an amazing playlist by one of my favorite let's-players, Supergreatfriend at the bottom of the post.
Based on the game mechanic "sight-jacking," I wondered how twins that are as close as Nobori and Kudari would approach the situation presented in the game!
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
Carefully shifting, Kudari pressed his back against the tree he'd tucked himself behind. His throat was tight as he fiddled with his hands. There were numerous pulls and tears in his gloves from hurriedly pushing his way through the sharp underbrush, and the scratches underneath had begun to sting from sweat. It felt unwise, however, to remove his gloves considering how strangely grimy everything in the town seemed.
It was shocking that he'd maintained the white of his coat in the few hours since he and Nobori had stepped off their train, the two of them alone arriving at this unfamiliar stop. Although it had been the beginning of their day when they'd climbed aboard their train, ready to face trainers in battle together, stepping off the train had revealed it to be early evening. At first, they'd walked casually through along the dirt roads, confused though they were. A strange encounter with someone living here had grown their caution, and they'd switched to sneaking through back pathways and ducking behind buildings.
It was mostly unbecoming of Subway Masters, but when they noticed rusty sickles and blunted saws in the hands of the villagers, they figured it was better to be safe than sorry.
Around him, the damp forest was silent, the wet chill seeping into his body as he caught his breath. It was difficult to tell if he was properly hidden; the incredibly angry villager he'd run into hadn't followed him this far, but his subway master uniform stood out so starkly amidst the dark foliage. The bottom had become dirty with his crouching in the leaves and mud, but most of it had yet to be masked with grime.
His brother's dark coat was simultaneously a benefit and a hindrance in this strange place. He could hide much easier, but that also meant it was easier for Kudari to lose sight of him as well. Although they spent many minutes just watching the paths that the villagers continued to retrace over and over, an opportunity to sneak past together had been unceremoniously interrupted by a loud cry to the east end of the village. Villagers that usually stayed far from each other strayed off their paths, each hurrying to investigate what had caused the wailing. By the time it was safe for Kudari to follow, Nobori wasn't waiting for him, and instead a particularly aggressive villager prowled, hunting rifle rattling in his irritated grip.
As the worry for his brother grew, a sharp throb pierced behind his eyes. Eyes clenched, he curled in on himself, hands up to try and hold his head together as it threatened to tear apart. Static reminiscent of the old radio their uncle had buzzed alive in his head, and he instinctively winced, head twitching to the side. As it did, though, the static faded and an image almost resolved itself before fading back into the static.
Eyes still closed, his eyebrows knit together in confusion, and he tried to turn his head in a similar manner again. As he moved, more and more clarity was carved out of the static. He could feel himself begin to shake, an involuntary movement unrelated to the cold he found himself in, but he kept his eyes shut, trying to maintain the angle that allowed him to keep the static away. Leaning to the side assisted in refining the clarity, and he braced himself with a knee in the mud.
Ragged breathing filled his senses and although he couldn't recognize where he was seeing, the hands in view were unmistakable. Gloves that were torn similarly to his own were just as stubbornly kept. Black, red, and silver cuffs proved what he already knew - somehow he was seeing Nobori's hands as they brought down a thick metal rod down on the shoulder of an eerily smiling old man. His twin's grunt of effort was nearly drowned out by the gurgling groan of the man he hit, and the smile flickered before tilting up the lips again. Black oozed around the villager's eyes, and he seemed manic and angry all at the same time.
He tried to yell his brother's name, but found he couldn't move as Nobori swung down again. A sickening crack was muted only with a stomach-turning squish and Kudari choked on a gasp as he wrenched his eyes open. His entire body vibrated and he slumped back against the tree, legs crossing underneath him.
Nobori had never harmed anyone in his entire life, nor had he ever lashed out in anger. It wasn't something Kudari thought his gentle older brother capable of. And the menacing face on that villager! Kudari had not looked closely at anyone, struggling with expressions even at the best of times, but he'd relied on body language to know these villagers were all on high-alert. To suddenly see and comprehend all the minutiae of someone's expression at such a time, it felt cruel. But if that was truly through Nobori's eyes, then his heart ached to know his brother had to see and experience such malice to the point of protecting himself with such violence.
Kudari's stomach roiled, fear and worry and the aftermath of whatever had struck him fighting each other and keeping him shaking. He'd only been without Nobori for a short time, but he missed him so much. Knowing that his brother was fighting at this very moment made that even worse. Hiding like this while Nobori faced things alone went against everything he'd ever done - they were a two-car train and he needed to reconnect on the same tracks.
After a few minutes, filled with determination to find his brother, Kudari managed to compose himself enough to stand back up. Shutting his eyes didn't bring up any static, but if he could manage it again, hopefully it would lead him to Nobori. Stabilizing himself against the tree with one hand, he looked around to make sure no one was around. With the coast clear, he pushed himself forward. No matter what, he would reunite with his brother, and they would find their way home again.
"I am Kudari. I will find Nobori. Nothing will stand in my way."
Resolute, he took careful but firm steps out of the forest. He would have to find a weapon.

Submastober / Submas Sharetober Day 7!
Sharetober Inspiration: Noroshi by Syudou (April 2022)
This song is actually inspiring for a few of my pre-existing AUs (Hisui AU and Black Dragon AU), even if just for the vibes. The black and white aesthetics through most of the song definitely help bring Submas to mind, as does the same-face nature of the characters.
It's been a very long time since I've added any chapters to my Hisui AU, but rest assured! If you're someone who enjoyed that fic, know that I do think about it all the time! For those of you who are waiting for more, I drew today's picture just for you!
Tumblr media
What does it mean? What is in store for Kudari in later chapters? Does Nobori ever find him? And if so, what of Kudari trying to keep him safe? >:3c We shall see, I suppose!!

Submastober / Submas Sharetober Day 5!
Sharetober Inspiration: 'Subtitle' by Official髭男dism (Oct 2022)
Tumblr media
I mentioned a while ago that ddIngo from the Death Train AU had forcefully removed himself from the Cosmic Train that all Ingo and Emmet find themselves on after their lives end. (Reuniting on the train allows them to reincarnate together into the same lives again).
ddIngo is currently in an unending feud with this train, and at one point considers himself "not a true Ingo" and a "fraud who accidentally got wrapped up in the reincarnation cycle of Ingo and Emmet." During his frustration, he "jumps" into a new life and is an only child. He is, of course, a true Ingo even if he was incredibly misguided in his original life. Because of this, he is incredibly lonely, and feels as though he should have had a sibling.
Obviously, he does not have another sibling, so when he's an adult and established, he decides to adopt a child.
That child is Yakou! She's around five years old when ddIngo adopts her, and at first he dresses her in all white clothes because it just feels right? But she soon lets her opinion be known, and she wants to wear pastels!
ddIngo is actually an excellent father, and he's supported both by Yakon/Clay as well as the Depot Agents. Yakon is like an uncle to Yakou (and they both like to talk about how close their names are), while Cloud is her godfather. The Agents treat her like something of a mascot for the Subway, and she has a lot of fun emulating ddIngo (up to and including mimicking his frown.)
Her partner pokemon is a shiny shroomish called Papa. She is not a troublemaker intentionally, but she is incredibly curious! She grows up to be a researcher and in that life is the on the team of scientists who restores the corsola population.
Link to the song under the cut!
Something about it just gives me ddIngo and Yakou vibes. Since she's an OC, I can't really explain it very well! But, I hope the song (with subtitles lol) can speak for itself.

Submastober / Submas Sharetober Day 8!
Sharetober Inspiration: Yume Nikki OST: Barracks Settlement.
Today was pretty busy, and I didn't have a lot of time to draw or write. So here's a quick little dooble of Kudari feeling sad. Perhaps it's something serious (like Nobori having disappeared). Or maybe it's something light-hearted (like Nobori ate the last pudding in the fridge).
Tumblr media
To be honest, I want to do another piece more closely related to Yume Nikki, but this song always makes me feel deeply sad from the bottom of my heart. It's one of my favorites in the OST and is a really good song, and just evokes such a strong emotion. I'm really impressed with how that was managed in such a short bit of notes.
