Levardis Robert Martyn Burton Jr. (born February 16, 1957) is an actor, director, and children’s television host. He is known for his roles as Kunta Kinte in Roots (1977), Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–94), and as host of Reading Rainbow for more than 23 years (1983–2006), for which he has received 12 Daytime Emmy Awards, and a Peabody Award as host and executive producer of the show.
His other roles include Cap Jackson in Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977), Donald Lang in Dummy (1979), Tommy Price in The Hunter (1980), which earned him an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture, and Martin Luther King Jr. in Ali (2001). Burton received the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards for his narration of the book The Autobiography of Martin Luther King Jr. In 1990, he was honored for his achievements in television with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He was chosen as the Grand Marshal of the 2022 Rose Parade. He presided over the parade and the afternoon Rose Bowl Game on January 1, 2022.
As a teen, who was raised Roman Catholic, entered St. Pius X Minor Seminary in Galt, California, intending to become a priest. At 17, questioning the Catholic faith, he changed his vocation to acting, and at 19, while an undergraduate at the University of Southern California.
He made his acting debut in 1976 with Almos’ a Man, a film based on the Richard Wright short story “The Man Who Was Almost a Man”. He joined the board of directors for the AIDS Research Alliance, a non-profit, medical research organization dedicated to finding a cure for AIDS.
He was one of the five inaugural honorees to the Sacramento Walk of Stars. In 2019, Councilmember Larry Carr, representing the Meadowview neighborhood, led the renaming of Richfield Park to LeVar Burton Park in his honor. LeVar interpretou o engenheiro Geordi La Forge em Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) e nos quatro filmes de cinema da era TNG. Além disso, ele dirigiu dois episódios de TNG e vários episódios de DS9, VOY e ENT. Além de sua afiliação com o Star Trek, Burton já era conhecido por sua participação como Kunta Kinte, na aclamada serie de 1977 "Raízes". Ele também é bastante conhecido lá fora por seu trabalho educacional para crianças onde criou o "Reading Rainbow Live", um projeto de incentivo à leitura para os pais e seus filhos, com a presença dele próprio e de vários membros de Star Trek - como os colegas Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner e Michael Dorn. LeVar Burton shares his thoughts after recording guest-hosting episodes of Jeopardy!
Burton spoke with the Associated Press last week after pre-recording his episodes. He had let the producers know of his interest in hosting, but his candidacy was also supported by a petition drive, which has garnered more than 250,000 signatures to date.
Burton said he had one day of rehearsal then, the next day, he filmed five back-to-back episodes. His wife, Stephanie Cozart Burton, was there to do his makeup and ended up coaching him after the first episode didn’tturn out to their liking. He told himself, “You’re not going to be as smooth as Alex, let go of that. But what you can bring to the table is you. So that became my point of focus. And when it did, I started having fun.”คาชิโน

Beyoncé, her daughter Blue Ivy, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Donald Glover, Chloe x Halle, Tiffany Haddish, Tracy Morgan, and tons were flocked to The Lion King's world premiere. And everyone pulled up with a massive drip. All the red carpet flicks inside...
We're a little over a week away before Disney’s The Lion King roars into theaters on July 19th. Woot!
Last night, the stars aligned in Hollywood for the world premiere of the computer-animated remake of the traditionally animated 1994 film. And everyone was drippin' sauce.
Beyoncé - who voices Nala - stunned on the carpet in a black and silver bejeweled Alexander McQueen blazer paired with a sparkly floor-length tulle skirt. The fab chick was laced with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, a diamond-encrusted clutch, and glittery strappy heels. She even rocked a new 'do - cornrows pulled back into a ponytail with her edges laid for the gawds.
Bey's daughter, Blue Ivy, was her total mini-me rocking a similar tuxedo Alexander McQueen ensemble. Adorbs!
Bey's flex hit different. Def a loof we weren't expecting.

Another Destiny's Child reunion went down.
Singer Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams hit the carpet with their girl to show love for her new project. On the carpet, Michelle was asked if she heard any of the new music Bey worked on for The Lion King soundtrack and she immediately went radio silent - like a good friend should.
"The Voice Australia" judge played up the movie's animalistic theme in a black-and-white Prabal Gurung mini dress with flared sleeves.
Kelly's adorable son, Titan, accompanied his mom on the carpet in a blue suit that he wore with some fresh J's.
Come through, Michelle! The former DC singer rocked a metallic mosaic Atelier Zuhra dress paired with Stuart Weitzman sandals.
Bey and Blue stopped on the carpet for a photo-op with US actress Shahadi Wright Joseph, who voices young Nala.
Keegan-Michael Key - who voices Kamari - and his fiancee Elisa Pugliese got a chance to snap it up with the Queen.
Donald Glover - who voices Simba - said he was nervous about singing the “Can You Feel the Love Tonight" cover with Beyonce during a recent appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
“I did not want to be looking in Beyoncé’s eyes while doing this,” he shared.
Ha! Can't blame him. He hit the carpet in a Gucci suit.
By the way, he's also working on the much-delayed third season of "Atlanta."
Chloe x Halle - who are signed to Parkwood Entertainment - pushed through in all black Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini ensembles. As you know, Halle (on the right) nabbed the Little Mermaid role and the trolls are BIG mad. They will deal.
After turning up at Kevin Hart's 40th Birthday Bash, Tiffany Haddish pulled up to the film's red carpet in a red-and-blue iridescent Libertine suit.
The Secret Life of Pets 2 star snapped selfies with "Reading Rainbow" host LeVar Burton and his wife Stephanie Cozart Burton.
She also linked up with fellow comedian/"Last O.G." co-star Tracy Morgan, who had his whole fam in tow:
