I have a Spongebob question for you though. What do you think are the most important episodes of Spongebob? Like particularly iconic ones or something? Basically I want your take and some fun facts about the show because it's one of my favorites. Thanks!

Ooh good question! Two important episodes that come to mind are Dying for Pie and Band Geeks. The former because we get to see that Squidward doesn't really hate SpongeBob at all, and the latter gives Squidward his first happy ending.

Then there's Friend or Foe, that explains the history of Mr Krabs and Plankton. And in Season 12 we have SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout, a special 44 minute 20th anniversary episode where SpongeBob and Patrick tour the surface, and we even see the cast play as human versions of the characters!

Now, fun facts:

It's the second longest running American children's cartoon after Arthur. Now that Arthur is over, SpongeBob will likely eventually take over that position

It's got a 4th movie in production, as well as three spin-off movies. One is about Sandy and there's rumours one will be about Plankton

The original version of the Sponge on the Run movie was going to be about an alien cat invasion. Personally I wish we'd gotten this instead of another "missing Gary" storyline

The show's original name was SpongeBoy Ahoy!, this had to be changed when Nickelodeon discovered SpongeBoy was already a trademarked name, and Stephen Hillenburg insisted on keeping "sponge" in the name to ensure nobody mistook him for a piece of cheese (something I did when I first saw the show in 2003)

It’s an interesting sight witnessing the very first episode of the series in comparison to every episode that came after it. The original pilot, originally titled “Spongeboy Ahoy!” is lost to time, but from what we can gather from the storyboards and animatic footage that has been uploaded, this is more so what we can expect from this episode. It’s an interesting observation compared to the rest of season 1’s visuals, where there are more smear frames (the sequence of Spongebob bouncing off the ground), the colors are more washed out, the lack of outlines on characters and how they move in a floatier and amorphous fashion. This is not necessarily a bad thing, more so an interesting note, but compared to what was airing at the time, it looked noticeably different. This first episode is the story of how our titular character came to work at the Krusty Krab, showing his perseverance and passion to whatever his task is at hand. The other characters have appearances here, namely Patrick, Squidward and Mr. Krabs, but they are mostly minor and more supporting roles, showing some aspects of each of their personalities that will be expanded later on. It’s mainly a simple, but charming character piece of Spongebob the character, and while there are episodes that are simply greater, this doesn’t negate the fact that it should be remembered as the establishment of a show of legend.
