GREENVILLE SWAMP RABBITS RELEASE 23-24 SCHEDULE

By: Mark Shelley, Greenville Swamp Rabbits GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, ECHL affiliate of the LA Kings, announced the club's 72-game regular season schedule for the 2023-24 season presented by Bon Secours. Head Coach/General Manager Andrew Lord returns to lead the Swamp Rabbits for a fourth season following a third consecutive Kelly Cup Playoffs appearance this spring. Lord and Greenville will play in front of the Swamp Rabbit faithful for 36 home games while traveling 36 additional times. The 2023-24 regular season schedule can be found here: DOWNLOADABLE PDF. The Swamp Rabbits return to home ice for Opening Night, presented by Bon Secours on Saturday, October 21, against a former South Division foe, the Norfolk Admirals, at 7:05 p.m. at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Of Greenville's 36 home games, 30 will take place on weekend dates between Friday (12), Saturday (11), and Sunday (7). The Swamp Rabbits' schedule features six mid-week home games, four on Wednesday nights and two on Thursday nights. The Swamp Rabbits face a 63-game South Division slate that features matchups with all six division foes. In a season-high 13 games, the Swamp Rabbits will face off with their closest geographical opponent, the Atlanta Gladiators and the second-year Savannah Ghost Pirates. The schedule features 12 meetings between the Swamp Rabbits and the Jacksonville Icemen, a rematch of the opening round series of the 2023 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Greenville will renew the I-26 Rivalry with the South Carolina Stingrays on 12 separate occasions during the 2023-24 slate. In a combined 14 games, the Swamp Rabbits will match up with the Orlando Solar Bears (7) and the Florida Everblades (7). One of the meetings with the Everblades, December 31, 2023, will see the two sides usher in 2024 with a 6:00 p.m. meeting at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. In the non-divisional play, the Swamp Rabbits' schedule features 10 games against five opponents outside the South Division. The Opening Night meeting with the Admirals is the only time the two sides meet. December features a Wednesday night meeting with the Cincinnati Cyclones. Greenville plays six non-divisional games in February, traveling to St. John's, Newfoundland, for a three-game set with the reigning North Division champions, the Newfoundland Growlers, and hosting the Rapid City Rush for three games at the end of the month. The Swamp Rabbits conclude its non-conference schedule with a pair of home meetings in March against the Toledo Walleye. Greenville began its final game of the regular season with an offensive onslaught, peppering the South Carolina net with 16 shots. However, the Swamp Rabbits earned the breakthrough at 14:22, as Brett Kemp netted his 23rd of the season for the 1-0 lead. In the second, the Swamp Rabbits added to their lead, as Kemp fed Ethan Somoza for his 20th of the season and the 2-0 advantage at 10:15. At 11:23, Colton Young scored his first career goal to put Greenville up 3-0. Moments later, at 12:36, Nikita Pavlychev scored his 25th of the season for the 4-0 score line before Kemp scored his second of the game at 13:22. Greenville scored its sixth consecutive goal at 14:07, as Ben Freeman netted his 13 of the campaign. The third period saw the Stingrays break Luke Richardson's shutout, as Lawton Courtnall scored at 8:32. Late in the game, Brannon McManus netted his 12th of the season at 19:39 to solidify the 7-1 score line. At the final horn, Richardson stopped 22 of 34 Stingrays shots to earn his second win of the season. With the win, the Swamp Rabbits finish the 2023 Season presented by Bon Secours to 40-23-8-1 while the Stingrays fall to 44-22-4-1. The Swamp Rabbits' win secures the team the third seed in the South Division for the 2023 Kelly Cup Playoffs, which begin next week. Ierullo, 25, lands his second ECHL honor in as many days, having been named to the league's All-Rookie team on Wednesday. The rookie earns the recognition amidst a pacesetting season for the Swamp Rabbits, tallying 80 points (25g, 55a) in 65 games. A native of Woodbridge, Ontario, Ierullo leads Greenville in goals, assists, and points. The former Bemidji State Beaver (NCAA-DI) is second among ECHL rookies in total scoring and sixth overall in the entire league. In addition, Ierullo's 55 assists are the fourth most in the ECHL entering the final weekend of the regular season. Martin, 23, is honored for a 50-point (14g, 36a) performance in his first season with the Swamp Rabbits. In 65 games in Greenville, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native ranks fourth among ECHL defensemen in total points; they are tied for first with 14 goals. Martin's 50 points land the blue-liner second, behind Ierullo, in team scoring. Greenville entered its penultimate game of the regular season with an early offensive onslaught that saw Nikita Pavlychev score his 21st of the season, a power-play tally, just 3:26 into the game. Pavlychev added to the Swamp Rabbits' lead with his second of the game at 7:36. At 10:16, Alex Ierullo fed Ben Freeman for a breakaway goal, his 12th of the campaign, for the 3-0 lead. Ierullo extended the Swamp Rabbits' lead to 4-0 with his 26th of the season at the 13:44 mark. In the second, Greenville continued its attack, as Pavlychev completed his hat-trick with a power-play goal at 2:44. Just 2:08 later, Pavlychev tied the single-game franchise record with his fourth goal of the game. The final frame saw Ierullo score his 27th of the season and sixth point of the night, one shy of tying the single-game franchise record, for the 7-0 lead. However, Savannah eventually snapped David Hrenak's shutout, as Logan Drevitch scored his 14th of the season at 7:58. Hrenak made 41 saves on 42 shots in the win. With the win, the Swamp Rabbits improve to 39-23-8-1 while the Ghost Pirates fall to 28-33-9-1.
