April 15, LAA @ BOS, 3-5, Win
Hey folks, guess what? We won! An actual game against another MLB team! And we did it at Fenway!
Getting a win after getting the shit kicked out of us by the Rays felt good. Yeah, Tanner Houck didn’t look quite as good as he has been and we left 10 on base but any game you win against a team with Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout is a good game as far as I’m concerned. And after my existential baseball misery in the wake of the Rays series something as simple as winning a game has brightened my weekend considerably. I have no interest in the wider view of the Red Sox as a team and the issues they’re having. I just want to focus on the bright sides.
Jansen faced the an incredibly dangerous top of the lineup in the ninth and struck out both Ohtani and Trout. (he actually struck out the side but gave up a hit to Rendon before striking out Renfroe) The Sox getting the shit kicked out of them has lowered the need for an elite closer, but it’s very nice to know we have one when we need one.
Tanner Houck wasn’t great, but he also didn’t put us in a hole he couldn’t climb out of. If we can still get a W when he’s not at this best, that bodes well.
The Angles made a bunch of errors that cost them a bunch of runs (four of our five runs were unearned). We took advantage of their mistakes. Good teams do that. I’m not saying that categorically means we’re a good team, but it’s encouraging to say the least.
Raffy got a hit and scored twice (reaching on an error as well).
Kiké seems to be emerging from his slump, going 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. It would be good for him to find his groove.
Wins after rough series can sometimes signal a turn of the ship. Are the Sox on the right track? Did they have a word with themselves and clean the slate? I’ve no idea. All I can ask for is another win today.

Red Sox Beat Up On Twins In Fort Myers.
Red Sox 14 Twins 6 W-Pivetta (1-0) L-Colome (0-1)
The Minnesota Twins returned home to play a game against the cross town Fort Myers rival Boston Red Sox. A good game ensued on a cloudy day in Southwest Florida. The Twins bats got going early as Mitch Garver crushed a Nick Pivetta fastball out to right for a solo blast in the first inning. This put the Twins up 1-0 and the Red Sox answered in the top of the third. Bobby Dalbec drilled a Alex Colome four-seam fastball out to right field for a solo shot to tie the game at one apiece. Cesar Puello followed with an infield single and Michael Gettys doubled to center. Kike Hernandez drove in a pair with a double to left and the Sox led 3-1. Hernandez gained third base on a groundball and JD Martinez smacked a double to left to plate another run. This capped off a four-run third for Boston and they got back to work in the fourth. Christian Vazquez started it all with a lead-off single. The next batter, Bobby Dalbec smacked a Glenn Sparkman fastball out to right-center for a two-run homer. Glenn Sparkman walked the next three batters and exited the ballgame. Marwin Gonzalez greeted Chandler Shepard with a two-run single to right. JD Martinez plated another run with a base hit to left and the rout was on. Hunter Renfroe followed with a bases clearing double and the Sox took a 12-1 lead. Chandler Shepherd struck out Christian Vazquez and the two teams called the half inning good. Kyle Garlick inched the Twins closer when he blasted a Kaleb Ort fastball out to right. It was his second homer of the spring and pulled the Twins within ten after four frames. The Twins would rally in the fifth as Tzu-Wei Lin led-off with a double. Aaron Sabato singled and Luis Arraez walked. Ben Rortvedt plated a run on a groundout to bring up Nelson Cruz. Cruz drilled a Seth Blair fastball out to left for a three-run blast. This pulled the Twins within six after five innings of play. The Red Sox kept on hitting as Jonathan Arauz lined a one-out double to left and Yairo Munoz plated him with a base hit to left. Jarren Durran added another run with a double to center to put Boston up 14-6. Caleb Simpson had a scoreless sixth and Raynel Espinal struck out the side in the seventh. The Red Sox routed the Twins today at Hammond Stadium.
-Final Thoughts- Jose Berrios got in and out of trouble in the first then looked very good in the second. He threw two scoreless innings and allowed a hit with three strikeouts. Alex Colome had a tough time in his first spring outing. He gave up four runs on five hits with a strikeout in the third. Glenn Sparkman was awful today. He gave up five runs on two hits with three walks and did not retire a soul. Chandler Shepherd struck out one, but gave up three runs. Cody Stashak had a 1-2-3 fifth with two strikeouts. Andrew Albers gave up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in the sixth. Ian Hamilton’s stuff looked good in the seventh. He struck out two in the seventh and featured a mid-90′s fastball and a slider. The Twins hit 2-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. The Twins have expressed interest in Danny Santana or Eric Sogard, but it would be on a minor league deal. Tomorrow, the Tampa Bay Rays come to town. Ryan Yarbrough will face Kenta Maeda in that one.

2020 is ending and i STILL haven't finished inuyasha and sergeant keroro, both of which i started in the first half of 2019 lol...in all honesty im 99% going to drop the latter bc altho the first few episodes were ok, im pretty tired of natsumi being s*xualised (does that make sense? every scene with her almost or actually taking her top off makes me go yeesh) inuyasha is also getting pretty boring but i was digging around people's comments and i guess i just need to push thru the filler episodes. other anime i've finished watching/ picked up recently:
- kimetsu no yaiba: set the bar pretty high...it's been a long time since i bothered to read a manga AND watch the anime. i actually wished it had gone on for longer. v likeable characters and even the ones who weren't had an interesting backstory. i am a bit of an anime snob i think but for liek stupid things like the animation, and i thought the animation for this was really good. i still think about it and im waiting for the infinity train movie to be released on blu ray or wtv
- jujutsu kaisen: i started this at around the same time as kny but i didn't like it as much. the story was interesting at first but i don't really like the characters they feel a little flat to me for some reason...i also tried picking up the manga but had to stop because i got really confused (the character gojo scares me...unpopular opinion but i don't like him) my fav character is that boy who can only speak in rice ball ingredients (forgot his name) and the talking panda
- fire force: another confusing one lol this one i liked a little better than jjk but the plot was too much for me!!! also i couldnt take one of the characters seriously bc their voice actor did zapp renfro's voice in kekkai sensen and he was a truly outrageous character
- bungou stray dogs s3: in general, this is a series i just couldn't get with...i enjoyed the beginning of the first season and then just stopped for no reason, decided to start again with season 2 and did not enjoy it, and likewise did not enjoy season 3. am i picking the wrong episodes to watch? bc i felt like there was too much talking, too much conspiracy, not enough action
- the millionaire detective balance: unlimited: it was on youtube, i stopped after one episode. i think i just hated how rich the main character was 🤷🏻‍♀️
- one punch man s2: it was ok. getting philosophical here but i guess my tastes hv changed bc i've changed lol but i LOVED the first season of opm when it first came out. i watched the first 5 episodes of s2, might continue it next week
- wotakoi: love is hard for an otaku: i saw a clip from the live action movie and some from the anime but watched neither in its entirety. instead, i read the manga which was cool. i think it's meant to be slice of life so its not too romance-focused. sorry can't think of what to say abt this bc im still thinking about kimetsu no yaiba
- the apothecary diaries: not an anime but my brother (of all ppl) recommended it to me...it was interesting i like mysteries i guess (explains why i still watch detective conan) very humorous and light-hearted for the most part. love the main character!!! a solid 4/5
i guess it's good that my current run with anime has been so disappointing...means i can refocus my energy into not getting laid off or f*red :-( it's 1:32am i really spent half an hour playing anime critic bc i couldn't fall asleep lol
