What do you think of Heiji and Rans relationship?
I love it so much, I’m sad WE DON’T GET MORE OF IT.
There’s a strange understanding between them that’s hard to identify but that’s actually also so endearing. I love that Hattori feels this almost natural need to protect her and watch over her simply because of Shinichi and because he knows how hard their situation is. I love that Ran sees him as someone she can trust and rely on. I love that they have this unspoken agreement by which they’re friends without necessarily having to say so.
You know what I mean?
In a lot of ways, Hattori is almost like a big brother to Ran. He’s kind of what Shinichi would’ve been like had he and Ran not been madly and desperately in love with each other. He’s someone who watches over her and always wants the best for her. And it’s actually someone who tries to cheer her up as much as possible, as weird and as unlikely as that may sound to some.
Ran is like the younger sister who is actually wiser than the older brother. She’s much more mature in a lot of aspects, and she has a deeper and more complex understanding of many things that Hattori can’t seem to grasp –especially feelings-wise. And I like to think she inspires him –and also scares him a little bit.
Actually! You know Sakura and Tooya from Card Captor Sakura? It’s that kind of a vibe in several aspects.
But I think there’s so many interesting things to explore between the two of them, I’m so disappointed Aoyama has never actually done so. In the Diplomat’s Murder Case he plants such an interesting dynamic, but then because of Kazuha’s introduction we never see it develop much more. We get the Holmes Freaks Case and that’s kind of something, but then it doesn’t go farther than that AND I’M MAD.
Give me a chapter where it’s Shinichi and Kazuha, and Ran and Hattori. Maybe they’re escaping from a bad guy and they get separated like that? And they have to figure shit out and it gives them a moment to actually get to know each other better. THEY HAVE SO MUCH IN COMMON, THEY COULD GET SO MUCH ADVICE, THEY COULD OFFER DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW ON SIMILAR SITUATIONS THIS WOULD BE AMAZING.
DO IT AOYAMA. JUST DO IT.
