#Poirot on location

Good morning what are the movies or tv shows that traumatized you as a kid mine are the BBC production of A Christmas Carol and a handful of David Suchet Poirot episodes
#my dad always thought if something was well done it was appropriate for children#so we never watched the silly little kid version of things. The muppet Christmas Carol? My dad would N E V E R#anyway a Christmas Carol ruined Christmas for me for YEARS#i hated to think about it#and poirot was just. traumatizing#there’s one called murder on the links which involved a golf course at night which is one of the most terrifying locations I can imagine#also there’s one called death in the clouds#and poirot uncovers the murder because there are two spoons on the dead lady’s tray of airplane food#and the way he says ‘he picks up a spoon giving him the task of a waiter to carry out’#when explaining the murder at the end to this DAY sends chills up my spine#I know this is very obvious but the thing about fear is that it isn’t about logic or reason but it is about revelation#it’s like the flip side of moments of good and happy insight#at least for me#what terrifies me is a moment where some kind of evil is revealed in a blinding FLASH#a motive or (I guess) a ghost#and there is this presence of some malevolent entity underneath the reality of things#and something about it being SEEN almost more than it existing#is so scary. Like I.#Poirot uncovering the murder and describing it with such studied fascinated careful attention#pulling back the layers of a blind of one kind or another#shakes me to. my. CORE.#and it’s all so visual and instinctive. it’s one tiny little moment that doesn’t fit suddenly pulling back the curtain of reality#with such terrifying abruptness#makes me want to sit down and cry like a baby#the knowledge of evil doesn’t scare me. as in it doesn’t elicit an emotional/physical reaction of fear#but seeing it in embodied action. again. where it’s some tiny ordinary little detail suddenly ripping reality as you know it to shreds#the surprise of it. the recalibration it demands#I !!!!!!!!! Get so afraid

Guys, Paris was redeveloped in the 1850s and the Eiffel Tower was built in the late 1880s, so it’s likely that Pokémon Z-A is going to take place in the Victorian era. Amazing.
This leads me to a very important question:
Will we get Sherlock Holmes/Hercule Poirot inspired Looker and/or Emma?
Poirot would make more sense with the location, but having the Looker detective agency be the Pokémon equivalent to 221B is just too fun to pass up.

ALRIGHT I'M MAKING THE POLL!
For my next liveblog, of anime, to run alongside Kamen Rider Ryuki, I'm presentiiiing.... 12 options!
Tumblr media
Blue Gender's a scifi with some horror and with mechs, and from what I've heard it has a very cool woman, a loserman with weird cancer disease, violence, and crabs.
Tumblr media
Mou Ippon is a show about a girls' judo club, and it would be the first sports anime I finish if I put it on! Got recommended it for being a non-horny girls sport anime, i like the designs, its got rivalries, and ive heard its underrated!
Tumblr media
Asteroid In Love is vaguely a yuri, it's got an astronomical theme, I can never locate the manga for it, and I rarely watch slice of life shows so it also sems like a change of pace. Might not be too fun to liveblog tho?
Tumblr media
MoNoNoKe is a show ive heard is fucking insane. About a medicine seller who hunts yokai with it all being morally ambiguous, wildly visual, and deliberately bizarre. Seems very fun to blog and watch, though maybe disorienting
Tumblr media
SSSS Gridman is the only thing Tsubaraya has that isn't ultraman, and it has evil yuri megatron or so I've heard. Mech show with characters! got kaiju! comes highly recced.
Tumblr media
Zetman seems to be both tokusatsu-y and stupidly edgy. That's al I know, that and the title character looks like an utter dingus!
Tumblr media
Ex-Arm is a trainwreck masquerading as a yuri masquerading as a cyberpunk masquerding as a trainwreck masquerading as pornography. Few things have looked more funnybad on visuals alone. Also Zero Berzerker seems to be there
Tumblr media
Agatha Christie's Great Detectives is an old show about both Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot occurring at the same time. Seems to be an interesting way to connect two series of mysteries. Also there is a bird and a girl
Tumblr media
Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna is a mystery show with a beautifully grating OP about some sort of murder, some people called Blade Children, a class reporter hounding a protagonist to see if he's a murderer maybe?? There appears to be a kaworu and a misato. It compels me
Tumblr media
Air is about a puppeteer searching for a Winged Maiden and I have absolutely no clue what it's doing in my list. Look at this cool art i found
Tumblr media
Ajin is a 3d grimdark? anime about zombies slash Orphnochs being hunted by the government and its got horror and gore. and ghost?
Tumblr media
Canaan is a TYPE-MOON work, though doesn't seem to be in the Fateverse or the Tsukihimeniversity, it has mercenaries, violence, hopefully yuri, and even more hopefully the Nasu Dialogue we all know and love.
Regardless! These are the choices for the anime to stand alongside Kamen Rider Ryuki in liveblogs once i'm done with Vampire Miyu!
And if you wanna pick more pls tag your extra picks ^_^

Rosette Vitrail ☘️
(Black Clover OC Profile ☘️)
Rosette is one of my most important OCs I created for Black Clover and also one of my favorites. I'm really happy to share her with all of you 💕
☘️☘️☘️
Basic Information
Name: Rosette Vitrail
Age: currently 18
Birthday: 13th November
Sign: Scorpio
Love Interest: Solid Silva
Birthplace: Clover Kingdom's Capital, city villa of house Vitrail
Current Location: Clover Kingdom, Silva Palace
Affinity: Glass Magic
Likes: Detective Novels, Chocolate, the sound of rain against glass, any kind of art with glass, Gossip
Dislikes: Any kinds of diets (one of her biggest nightmares), Unfairness, Contradiction, Arrogance of nobles (especially from her own house), too colorful clothes
Grimoire Design: Black with colorful patterns that look like the rose stained glass windows of a cathedral. The clover is in the middle of it.
Appearance:
Hair Color: White blonde
Eye Color: very pale grey
Height: 158 cm
Due to her appearance, Rosette had a reputation of being unhealthy within Cloverian nobility (which isn't true, she is actually healthy as an ox): Very thin, not very big, extremely pale in skin, hair and eyes, not to mention fragile looking. So, she is mostly invisible in a way.
Rosette mostly wears dresses in any shades of grey (grey is her favorite color), sometimes just grey, sometimes added with some color (most of the time pink, purple, blue, turquoise and green, sometimes also red, yellow, orange and others when she feels bold). Most of her dresses have either an empire waist or a normal one. When she wears grey with another color, there is a ribbon of the same color around her waist.
Her hair is very straight and she usually let it fall free, often hold back by a ribbon (mostly a grey one). Rosette keeps her hair long, currently it falls right above the middle of the back.
Her fingers are long and elegant, but she still has the habit to nag her nails when she's thinking (and she thinks a lot).
Rosette is so pale that sometimes, people have the impression that sunlight can shine through her.
Personality:
Rosette is a very calm girl and also very observant (due to her childhood). Having spent a lot of times within noble circles of Clover, she became a secret force about gossip and to notice the smallest details. She has very much a detective mind (might be a bit the Hercule Poirot or the Jane Marple of the Clover Kingdom). While she has a romantic side, Rosette is pretty much pragmatic when it comes to herself.
Rosette is very aware about her reputation of not having a very good health and while it had hurt her when she was a child, growing up she decided to make it a mask and a strength instead. She embraced her invisibility, using it to listen to gossips. Over time, she started to have a lot of fun to be invisible and to push people without being noticed, but other times, before she came to live with the Silvas, she felt rather lonely and wish for someone to actually SEE her.
Unlike most nobles, Rosette doesn't look down on people from lower circles than her. At first, she really didn't have an opinion, but through her observations, she came to see commoners, peasants and even misfits as people and started to silently rebel against unfairness. She also doesn't consider training unfitting for a noble and trained her magic in secret for long. But she only started to train self-defense after she came to live with Silvas and interacting more with the Black Bulls.
Rosette is also pretty cheeky and insolent at times, not afraid to go into secret or forbidden archives if she wants to check upon something. Sometimes, when she is angry at a noble, she also likes to make some innocent prank (her invisible mask comes pretty in handy in those situations). After moving into the Silva Palace, when she isn't at noble circles, she is more opened and Vanessa teached her how to tease.
Rosette is also very stubborn when it comes to diets, convinced that they never work at all. Charmy loves her for that.
Despite everything, Rosette still has some affection for her family, but isn't blind that they won't change and accepted a long time ago that she can only love them from afar.
Background:
Rosette is from high nobility and from one of the most influential noble houses in Clover. House Vitrail mostly has members with glass magic. She is the second daughter of the head of house Vitrail, Verre Vitrail and his wife, lady Cristal. She has an older sister, Athénaïs. Rosette often lived in the shadow of her sister. In fact, Athénaïs is a true beauty, long golden locks and royal blue eyes, a porcelain skin, her frame is considered to be perfection. Athénaïs is also a typical noble, vain and arrogant and full of herself. But also intelligent and for a while, she was considered to be the perfect noble lady to marry into royalty... Especially Nozel Silva. Rosette still likes her sister, but is not blind to her flaws and consider that it's not to bad if they don't see each other often. Athénaïs, despite all her flaws, still has affection for her younger sister, but it is mostly a selfish affection, because caring for her poor unhealthy little sister is good for her own reputation (there is still genuine affection, though). Her parents have some affection for Rosette, but like normal noble parents, it's mostly vain and often, they don't even realize she's here.
Due to her so-called poor health, Rosette was very lonely as a child. When she wasn't going out on places for typical noble ladies - like circles, tea parties, promenades, soirées or balls - she either spent most of her time in her room or when she was able to sneak out alone, into the library or into some places not "fitting" for a noble girl. She read a lot during those times, learned some foreign languages by herself and also trained her magic. Fun fact, due to a coincidence, she managed to create colored glass. Curious about her discovery, she went (sneak) into libraries and archives to search about any clues about glass magic with stained glass. Sadly, she didn't found much, as stained glass isn't really a thing yet, even for glass magic users. So, she had to work on this without any clue.
Also due to her poor health, her mother swore on giving Rosette very special diet meals, even though she was already so thin. And this is the origin of Rosettes hatred towards diets. One time, she secretly eat A LOT of fattening food during one week... and still waits for those pounds to appear. In the end, Rosette came to the conclusion that she was maybe naturally thin.
Solid Silva:
Rosette and Solid had an arranged marriage. But how it came to that is a little novel. On Solids side, he was for some reason convinced that romantic love was stupid and he claimed that he wanted an arranged marriage, no objection accepted.
On Rosettes side, it was a bit more complicated. First, she came alone to the conclusion that to do something permanent against unfairness within the Clover Kingdom, you have to be a royal. For herself, this would mean that she had to marry into royalty. Like mentioned before, Rosette was very pragmatic when it comes to herself and even though she knew that arranged marriage aren't bond with happiness, she thought that with the right royal family, she might at least have some freedom. She choose the Silvas, for different reasons but also because she felt that there was something with them (not to mention in my headcanons, the current Silva Siblings are also the last Silvas) and Rosette is of course also curious.
Second, Rosette wanted to move away from her family and she wanted to have a real home. Yes, arranged marriages didn't imply getting a home, but Rosette thought that once married and away from house Vitrail, she might work to make her own home.
In a very subtle way, she casually told her father that marrying his second daughter into royalty wouldn't be so bad and her father even believed that he got this idea all by himself. Rosette had to go through some kind of hearing or interview in front of the three royal House Heads, so that they could determine if she was fit to be a royal. She did very well, as house Vitrail got a proposal for her to marry Solid the very next day. Rosette was also bold enough to suggest that she could already move into the Silva Palace, to learn properly to be a royal. This had been once an betrothal tradition that hadn't been applied for decades, but to Rosettes luck, hadn't been abolished either.
It took some time, but the Silvas as well as Vanessa, Asta and even Zora came to like her. Rosette started quickly to feel at home at the Silva Palace. As time passed, she was invited to spend time with the Black Bulls and came to appreciate them. They liked her too, especially Charmy. In fact, after seeing how thin Rosette was, Charmy became pretty worried and gave herself the mission to fattening "this poor bony milk glass" with the most delicious food. Which didn't work, as Rosette is naturally thin. But Rosette didn't complained. After so many years with tasteless and too healthy diet meals, Charmys food and any fat dishes in general were paradise for her.
As for Solid, he and Rosette didn't wait to talk about their betrothal and making things clear that this was an arranged marriage. She suggested to him that they should become partners and trust each other, since they were going to spend the rest of their lives together. Solid accepted, surprised and deep down also grateful that for the first time, someone was ready to trust him and call him a partner. Under Rosettes patience, kind scolding and trust, while he was still a jerk, Solid matured and his redeeming traits started to be more visible. As for Rosette, being with Solid was refreshing to her, as for the first time, she didn't felt alone and he was actually SEEING her.
By getting along, they became close friends and slowly, very slowly, they started to fall in love. Once he realized it, Solid had a total panic attack. He actually run into Nozels office, screaming in fear: "Big brother, it's terrible! I fell in love with my fiancee!" As for Rosette, her biggest surprise was mostly, "Wait, I'm actually able to love without feeling regret and resignation?"
By the time they got married, Solid and Rosette already confessed to each other (a funny situation for her, awkward for him, sweet for both), so despite being arranged, it was a love wedding in the end.
Rosette and Solid aren't the most romantic couple. Rosette is still very pragmatic and Solid, well, is very unsure about being loving and romantic, not to mention still a jerk. But they got along very well and are still a team very often. A team with Rosette as the brain and Solid as the one taking action. Rosette also teases Solid a lot and is the only one unaffected by his jerk attitude. She kinda find this side of him a bit hot.
Trivia:
Rosettes name comes from the rose windows in cathedrals. It means also "little rose" in French.
Vitrail is the French word for stained-glassed window.
I started to imagine Rosette while I was reading the novels of Agatha Christie. This is why I kinda imagine her as the Hercule Poirot or Jane Marple of the Clover Kingdom.
Starts to talk in different languages at the same time when she's upset.
Yami gave her the nickname Ghost Girl, because she is so pale.
Isn't the best cook, but at least can make any kinds of cocoa, chocolate cream or mousse and even grilled cheese sandwiches by herself.
Is a very good dancer. Solid isn't, so when they have to dance, it is Rosette who leads.
Teaches Asta a lot of things about nobility, as she's convinced it will help him once he becomes the Wizard King.
Supports both Nozel and Asta for becoming Wizard King. She supports her new family.
Bonds with Zora about pranks, even though Rosette is nicer.
Bonds with Nebra about gossip.
Once she started to live with the Silvas, Rosette also started to train self-defense. She also has an incredible sense of balance, but only got to train it after she moved away from her family.
Is very irritated that Ki-reading didn't prevented Yami and Asta to be dense.
Helps sometimes Nozel with affairs of house Silva. Over time, he even trusted Rosette directly with some affairs. Since she isn't a Magic Knight, she has a lot of times.
Rosette is one of Charmys favorite people outside of the Black Bulls.
Vanessa started to teach her about needlework. They got along very well.
Became one of Noelles best friends.
Rosette learned about the Silva's past over time and she admired them that despite the mistakes and the past pain, they were able to heal, to make amends and to become a family again. Also helped Solid and Noelle to mend their bonds.
Rosette and Solid got two children together. A son named Eis and a daughter named Nanthilde.

Alright, Mystery Lovers, we have a huge update for you!
We have released a new update for the Hints and Hijinx system! The Solo+ Expansion (and it's still free!)
Find it here:
You can now choose between the classic solo-only Hints and Hijinx ruleset, or the expanded solo+ which adds support for multiplayer and more traditional play (GM/Player, multi-session, free movement between locations, etc.) while keeping the core concepts of HnH.
Think of Solo as playing a great Detective (Sherlock Holmes, Hercules Poirot, etc) whereas Solo+ is designed for a mystery solving team (like Scooby-Doo)!
Solo+ does add a little complexity to designing games, which is why we decided to keep the two versions separate: "Solo" and "Solo+".
The new Solo+ pdf still includes copy/paste rules, and a list of where to add your content.
This is the same system that will be used for our upcoming games The Substratum Protocol and Whispering Pines. Hints and Hijinx used a base of Breathless, GRANDMOTHERSHIP, and Brindlewood Bay for its rules. Solo+ adds additional concepts from RPDeshaies's Firelights.
The core changes between Solo and Solo+ are:
The number of skills increases from 2 to 6.
Skills are rolled in pairs, summed, and compared against the value of two drawn cards (Ace =1, King = 13)
Beaten cards are collected by players can be used for benefits - special boons players gain by discarding specific types of cards, or playing vs. the Guide.
Stress added health mechanic.
Determination grants new abilities as Stress increases, at a cost.
Actions - specific moves players can take with dedicated outcomes
Free flow between locations and dealing with complications.
Moving between locations is done with the Travel Action, with possible bonuses or negations while a montage of travel plays out.
Each location has a complication/event table, instead of a shared table.
Gathering a Clue and Understanding it are two different steps.
Understanding a Clue takes the player to a table of leading questions they can answer about the mystery. The split is optional in your own game. Simply remove the Understand action and Clue Question table.
With this release, we have plans to launch another Game Jam in the next month or so, so keep an ear out!

The Kitchen Dilemma
Tumblr media
Words : 1649
CW : hurt/comfort, soft afternoons at the Poirot residence, based on a plot point from (Season 1 : Episode 4)
It had just been another ordinary day at the Poirot residence. Miss Lemon was organizing her files in yet another sub category, Hastings was out doing some research work, and you had taken it upon yourself to make something for the first time in the new apartment's kitchen. Your husband had only moved you both here recently, trying to find a more central location to where most of his cases seemed to fall.
But now, after having assembled a banana trifle, Hercule Poirot was sternly instructing you why you shouldn't be in the kitchen.
You weren't sure whether or not to take him seriously - you could hear the slight annoyance in his voice, but there was a sort of light heartedness that you easily mistook for him trying to spare your feelings. You assumed he just didn't like the kitchen dirty or he liked being the one in control, but it unintentionally hurt that he really didn't want you cooking or baking or having anything to do with the kitchen.
In the midst of his speech, you just nodded, trying to zone out as much as you could to avoid a show of unnecessary emotion. You vowed you would make sure not to tamper with whatever it was that he didn't like. You became convinced that it was definitely something that you had done - there was something wrong with you or your cooking that made him feel this way. You couldn't help but feel a little self conscious after this - if you couldn't cook for him and eventually, your family, what kind of wife were you?
♡ ♡ ♡
A few months passed, and in your effort to avoid the kitchen as much as possible, you had drawn the attention of Hercule.
"Hastings, why is it that you think (Y/N) has not stepped foot in the kitchen in over two weeks?"
Hastings sat back on the chair at the table. "Well, it may or may not have something to do with your remark about her being in the kitchen."
Hercule paused, reflecting on what conversation that was. The guilt began to set in - how could he be so foolish? Of course you would be hesitant after that - and he then was able to see the insecurities that would inevitably come afterwards - and his heart sunk. How you had been able to mask it well enough since then was astounding. He paused stirring, trying to come up with something that would help reverse its effects.
"I could have her come in here and help."
Hastings shrugged his shoulders.
"Hastings, why do you give the shoulders, the shrug?"
He shrugged again. "I don't know, Poirot. She's created a mental boundary and I don't think she'd be caught in the kitchen doing anything in an attempt to avoid crossing it."
Poirot nodded. "Perhaps I will just have to wait."
Hastings nodded. "I'm afraid you will."
♡ ♡ ♡
It had been weeks since this conversation, and Poirot was out on a case with Hastings and Miss Lemon. You had the flat to yourself, and despite your best efforts, you couldn't resist the craving for pasta. You knew what it meant - probably another lecture about the kitchen and its intended use that wasn't for you, but you had to have it. And you knew the pantry had all the things for it, you had been checking for over a week - trying to determine how you would make the disappearance of the ingredients seamless and unnoticeable.
It was a warm summer afternoon. In an attempt to enjoy the process, you had opened the windows slightly, and had put your favorite record onto the player. Of course, during the climax of the symphony you were listening to, is the exact moment when Hastings and Miss Lemon arrived. Their smiles grew - Poirot had just been expressing his concern of your prolonged absence from the kitchen. This was his chance to change it.
They let him into the apartment, fingers over their mouths to signal his silence, now that the symphony drifting through the hallway was quieting as it was nearing it's close. Miss Lemon closed the door gingerly behind them.
Hercule's expression remained confused until he recognized the symphony from one of your favorite records. He softened considerably. It had been such a long time that he had been waiting for you to warm back up to the kitchen, and instantly knew he had to handle the situation delicately, to alleviate any guilt that you were surely already feeling for being in the kitchen.
Miss Lemon and Hastings remained behind, to give the two of you some space. Hercule padded down the hall noiselessly, stopping to peek around the corner of the doorway to see what you were doing.
You looked so peaceful. The summer breeze was warm, brushing the hair out of your face. Hercule's heart burst with pride, noting you were wearing one of his favorite aprons. It looked so perfect on you, nothing could rival it. And the way the light came through the window, casting everything in a soft yellow that made you glow more than usual...
The symphony ended, and you turned to change the record, freezing when your eyes landed on Hercule standing in the doorway with an awestruck look on his face.
You felt frustrated with yourself. Of course, you had started an hour later than you had originally planned, having spent that time being anxious about time restraints and getting caught. If you had only started then, it would have been cleaned up now, instead of having to face your husband with the guilt of having done something to upset him.
The apologies were spilling from your lips before you could even comprehend they were coming out. Hercule seemed to ignore them, striding over to the pot. You followed, staring at the contents as you went quiet.
"What have you made?" He asked.
You paused. Of all the reactions he could have had, this was unexpected. Your voice was soft as you responded. "Pasta."
Hercule hummed, a familiar glint of excitement in his eyes. "And how is it - the quality of this pasta?"
Unwilling to believe he was completely alright with it yet, you ladled a noodle with some sauce onto the testing spoon. "Why don't you tell me?"
"Bon." He declared as you lifted the spoon to his mouth. He ate off the spoon, his eyes closing. You had seen this look before. He was chewing slowly, calculating and cataloging flavor and texture and deciding where it fell on his scale of favorite dishes.
"Listen, love, I know I'm not supposed to..."
"My love, that was impeccable." He interrupted, licking his lips.
"Do you really think so?"
Hercule's arms moved around your waist, pulling you to him as his smile widened. "I know so, amour. You'll have to make it often."
"Is that permission to cook in your kitchen, Monsieur Poirot?" Your smile that he loved so much was back. He nodded.
"Yes. And I must say, I apologize for making you feel otherwise."
"It's alright, I would have made it work."
"You mean sneaking around making pasta without Papa Poirot? I don't believe so, my darling." Hercule laughed, pressing his forehead to yours, rubbing your nose with his affectionately.
"You really liked it?" Your tone was tender.
"I do, darling. It is exhilarating for the little grey cells."
Hercule relished in your little laugh that followed. "I am glad my cooking can be of interest to the little grey cells."
"You have always been of interest to the little grey cells, mon amour." His lips met yours, intoxicating as ever, sending you to what felt like to the moon and back.
♡ ♡ ♡
"(Y/N), darling, are you coming to eat with us?"
You smiled, trying to keep your noise level down as you pulled the pureed soup you had made earlier from the fridge and put it in a pot.
"Yes, Hercule. I'll only be but a moment!"
You knew that he was watching Hastings have the rabbit in the style of Liege, so he was preoccupied and wouldn't notice your absence for another minute or two.
Years had passed since Hercule had give you free rein in the kitchen, and he had made sure to taste everything you cooked, always incredibly impressed with whatever you decided to make. In fact, he had found great enjoyment in cooking together, whether or not he was in charge or you were - cooking had become one of Poirot's favorite ways to spend time with you.
When the soup was hot enough, you ladled some into a bowl and noticed that Hastings went down the hall and out the door. You made your way into the dining room, and Hercule turned and smiled.
"Hastings has just gone to retrieve something from his car... What is this, my love?" He took the bowl from you and smelled it, eyes closed.
"I made you a potato soup in the style of Poirot - it's puréed so you'll be able to eat it."
He set the bowl down, then taking you into his arms and kissing you.
"I didn't want you going hungry. I know your tooth has been hurting, and I hate to see you in so much pain."
Poirot kissed you once more, slowly moving you around the table. "You are so attentive, darling."
There was a knock at the door, and Hercule only increased his passion.
"My love, Hastings needs to be let back in." You whispered in between kisses.
Poirot had you backed up against a wall in no time.
"Hercule..." You warned, smirking softly.
His lips finally parted yours for more than a half second, and he sighed.
"I will let Hastings back in. But you and I are not finished. Until later, amour." One last stolen kiss and he went to get the door, leaving you to deal with the butterflies in your stomach.

do people enjoy kenneth branagh’s poirot movies? do they make money? genuinely asking because i’ve watched all three and i’m embarrassed on his behalf. at least the last one is shot on location and it’s really hard to fuck up the look of your movie when you shoot in venice. but aside from thinking he’s not a good director, i really believe that the issue with his films is that he doesn’t lean on camp as much as he should. the films look artificial (death on the nile atrociously so) but not enough for it to elevate the work, just enough for them to look like every other franchise except for the slightly more saturated colors

For Munday, what does the mun like to do?
ooc;;
ah the wanda headcanon questions are easier than things about me 😭
let me see… there is the obvious of reading comics! there’s only a few series i always stay up to date with, but i try my best to know what’s happening because i do just love comics.
i enjoy reading in general, any genre. i started rereading reacher books because of the tv show, and i recently reread jurassic park, princess bride, and a few poirot books. i’m looking for a new book but i can’t think where to start.
i enjoy baking. but like, unhealthy baking. i literally just finished baking nutella and kinder rocky road this morning. i think it’s fun. i can’t cook but i can bake. i literally set things on fire trying to cook including a plate and oven mitts.
i love my dog and dog walks are a big thing. lots of hilly walks and things like that. lots of beautiful locations near me.
i guess some would call me dull or a nerd but i love learning and i do courses when i can. i’ve signed up to a cryptography course i’m just starting.
then just usual bits and pieces like video games, meeting friends and family, just… yeah. living life!

3rd Poirot film A Haunting in Venice filming on location
Kenneth Branagh, Tina Fey and Riccardo Scamarcio were spotted filming the upcoming Agatha Christie adaptation on January 6 and 7 2023 in Venice, Italy.
Branagh was also seen filming at the Clock Tower in Piazza San Marco, and later with his double taking a ride on a police gondola through the canals. Branagh appeared in a navy double-breasted coat, striped blue suit, white shirt, red silk tie, black leather gloves, Homburg hat, carrying Poirot's iconic cane and a book about Venice.
Corriere del Veneto (via Italy24) reports the cast will be shooting in Venice until mid-January. "There will be filming on the water with stage gondolas, vintage boats and 1950s taxis." Other locations mentioned include Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio (a square with a church), Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello (music conservatory), San Samuele (church), Palazzo Malipiero (palace), Campo San Boldo (square near the famous Rialto Bridge), etc.
Based on Agatha Christie's novel Hallowe'en Party, the film is set in post-World War II Venice on All Hallows' Eve. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world's most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.

I’ve enjoyed Kenneth Branagh’s “Murder on the Orient Express (2017) although I think the 1974 version starring Albert Finney’s is far better. But Branagh’s sequel “Death on the Nile” is better than the 1978 version with Peter Ustinov’s silly Poirot.
Now we have “A Haunting in Venice” to look forward to… it is scheduled for release this September. When it was first announced, I couldn’t find any of Agatha’s Christie’s novels with that name. Low and behold, it’s actually based on “Hallowe'en Party”, first published in 1969.
Contemporary reviews of the mystery were not good. One describe it: “Hallowe'en Party...is a disappointment… Poirot seems weary and so does the book."
Another said, “… the telling is very poor: it is littered with loose ends, unrealised characters.”
So it’s not a surprise that the story will be substantially rewritten for the film. The setting has been moved from Halloween 1969 to Christmas in the 1930s. And the location from a suburb of London, to Venice, Italy.
In the original story, there are several murders before the start, and two or three during the plot. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those details are changed as well.
Tumblr media
Already there are some other key changes. The teaser trailer reveals a seance and possible ghosts. Neither of those are part of Christie’s original novel. More significantly, the book features Joyce Reynolds - a thirteen-year-old girl who claims she witnessed a murder. But Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh plays Joyce in the film (and is a spiritual medium to boot)!
But the change I’m most concerned about is the character of Ariadne Oliver. Oliver is an old friend of Poirot and was featured in several of his books. But American Tina Fey has been cast in the role. Fey largely plays herself in everything she does, so it’s difficult to imagine her in a Christie mystery set in the 1930s.

“What Sacred Game” - Friday, July 21
Author: prettydizzeed (  @campgender Artist: Hectatess ( @hectatess ) Rating: Explicit Featured characters: Sam Winchester, Gabriel, Dean Winchester  Featured relationships:  Gabriel/Sam Winchester, Sam Winchester & Dean Winchester, Gabriel & Chuck Shurley Length: 10,000 words Tags:  Alternate Universe - Murder Mystery, Script Format, Meet Ugly, Noir, Identity Porn
Summary:  Unbeknownst to them, Sam and Dean investigate a murder on a scale unlike any they’ve encountered before. In order to solve the case, they first must solve the mystery of the true nature of the victim known as Chuck Shurley—a secret even his estranged kids are determined to keep. To complicate matters more, Sam finds himself on the brink of revealing dangerous truths about his own identity to the charming, irreverent stranger who claims to be Chuck’s housekeeper.
Excerpt:
Several still shots in quick succession, the products of Sam’s camera: a smudge of the cigarette ash Poirot disdained as cliché. A pool of blood inside the white outline of where a body once lay, in approximately the location of its gut. An eerily distinct muddy footprint. Lodged in the center of the bloodstain, Sword in the Stone -style, a knife that appears to be made of nothing, an absence in the matter of the room.
Dean tries to nudge it with the tip of his shoe, and his boot goes right through.
Outside the room, a noise. Sam and Dean share a glance and exit the bedroom, guns ready.
MAN: (looks around the living room, whistles) Guess I’ve got my work cut out for me.
DEAN: Who the fuck are you?
MAN: The name’s Holden.
DEAN: (eyebrows raised, more than a little condescending) As in Caulfield?
HOLDEN: As in Driscoll. (flicks a rag onto his shoulder) I’ve been dusting these knickknacks for the last six years.
SAM: You’re the housekeeper?
HOLDEN: What, were you expecting a short skirt and fluffy feather duster? Only on my nights off. (winks)

Kenneth Branagh continues his fantastic series of Agatha Christie adaptations. He clearly loves Poirot and the world. The formula of the plot may be the same, probably due to the source material, but if it's not broken don't fix it.
The infusion of horror elements make this whodunit truly different. The audience follows Poirot in trying to find logic in the seemingly illogical events. The party scenes are a good love letter to the traditions of Halloween, while the later scenes have genuine scares and suspense.
It features a terrific progression of the character, with the famous detective now disaffected with humanity following a second World War when Death on the Nile featured his trauma from the Great War. Branagh is as good as ever, playing the smartest guy in the room who knows he's annoying while delivering clever quips. Tina Fey does a great job as Poirot's new sidekick and Christie stand-in.
Like the first two Poirot films, it does an amazing job showing off the Italian setting and is a good compliment to The Equalizer's small town location. The movie has what too many other recent films lack, genuine love for the source and care in making a good story.

i understand why kenneth branagh wants to make poirot movies, but i don't understand why you would take that specific character and make him a brooding, traumatized war veteran. play lord peter if you want that! hell, make a big screen cadfael adaptation, even. but poirot? christie in general is an odd choice to complicate in that particular way, because the stories just *are not* set up for weltschmertz in that mold. adam sandler has spent most of his career making movies that are transparent excuses to go to a pretty location and hang out with his famous friends, but no one in branagh's poirot movies looks like they're having a good time, and the movies are a nightmare of green screen scenery. the original novel didn't include any of this—neither the immediate post-war period, nor the venetian setting, nor the seance. none of the characters are the same, none of the points are the same, the tone isn't the same, the plot isn't anything like the novel; what's exactly the point?
