Sheffield United sack manager Paul Heckingbottom and replace him with Chris Wilder for a second spell
Sheffield United have appointed Chris Wilder as their new manager after sacking Paul Heckingbottom. The Blades fired Heckingbottom after they slipped to the bottom of the Premier League table, with just five points, after Saturday’s embarrassing 5-0 defeat at Burnley, their 11th reverse in 14 matches. Wilder returns to the club after leaving his first spell in March 2021 with the Blades on the…

Neil Lennon Doesn't Get Enough Credit as Successor Struggles
CELTIC thrashed Hibernian at Hampden on Saturday evening, putting five past the Edinburgh side who scored two goals of their own but never looked like winning.
Paul Heckinbottom has been clinging on by the skin of his teeth for some time now with Hibernian languishing in the bottom half of the table. Doing just enough in recent months to keep a hold of his job it would appear Hibs fans have seen…

RYAN CHRISTIE savoured the 5-2 Betfred League Cup semi-final triumph over Hibs at Hampden last night – and insisted Celtic are hungry for more silverware success.
The Hoops celebrated their astonishing THIRTIETH consecutive Cup victory as they moved within 90 minutes of their 10th domestic trophy in a row.
Paul Heckinbottom’s Easter Road outfit did their best to provide a banana skin and pulled it back to 2-1 at one stage in the first-half after Mohamed Elyounoussi and Callum McGregor had struck with seven minutes of each other to point the Parkhead the men in the direction of another win.
Slack defending allowed Melker Hallberg to fire past Fraser Forster, but Neil Lennon’s men restored their two-goal advantage beforte the the interval when Odsonne Edouard set up Elyounoussi for his second goal of the evening.
Scott Brown claimed his first double since 2014 to fire the holders into the Cup Final on December 8 and Christie, who wasn’t risked for the 90 minutes because of a knee complaint, replaced Tom Rogic in the 79th minute.
The Scotland international playmaker, speaking to the Sunday Post, said: “We’re delighted to reach another Final, first and foremost, but we’re also really happy with the performance, as well. We’re all pleased with where our game’s at right now.
“That’s 30 Cup wins in a row, which is testament to our character and composure when it comes to these big games at Hampden.
“Over the last few years we’ve managed to churn out positive results and long may it continue.
“Every single person in that changing room is desperate to win EVERY competition we’re in. That’s where the hunger comes from.
“This tournament comes around quickly in the season and we want silverware before Christmas.
“To do that you need to turn up on days like this and credit to the boys, we did that.” Christie added: “It’s pretty relentless, but you have to get used to that or you probably won’t survive at this club.
“Psychologically, it’s massive to get the first trophy of the season. If we can secure it, it will push us on for the rest of the season.
“A lot has been said about the increased competition this season. But we’re desperate to concentrate on ourselves and take home more trophies.
“When you hear people saying Rangers are getting closer and the gap’s getting smaller, it fires us up.
“We’ll always welcome the competition. If everyone else around us is getting better, that will only make us better, as well.”
Christie was Celtic’s matchwinner in December last year when he scored the only goal of the Betfred League Cup Final against Aberdeen.
Now the Highlander is looking for an action replay this time out.

CELTIC could face Hibs in their Betfred League Cup semi-final at Hampden with a tea-time kick-off on Saturday November 2.
That is the likely outcome following talks between the clubs, SPFL chiefs, BT Sport and police, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.
If agreed, the holders would take on the Edinburgh outfit around 5.30pm at the national stadium. An announcement is expected in the next few days.
Last season, the Hoops faced Hearts at Murrayfield, home of rugby, after the original game was switch from Hampden. The champions won 3-0 on their way to lifting the silverware for the third successive season with a Ryan Christie hoal against Aberdeen.
Neil Lennon’s men booked a spot in the last-four in midweek with a 5-0 victory over Championship Partick Thistle while Paul Heckinbottom’s side overcame Kimarnock 5-4 on penalty-kicks after a goalless extra-time stalemate.
The other semi-final between Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox side and Hearts is pencilled in for the following afternoon with a mid-afternoon start.

NEIL LENNON is looking forward to a Betfred League Cup semi-final confrontation with his former club Hibs early in November.
The holders booked their place in the last four of the competition with an impressive 5-0 romp against Championship outfit Partick Thistle at Parkhead last night.
Vakoun Issouf Bayo claimed his first goal for the club since his January move to the champions while Olivier Ntcham notched a double – one a screamer into Scott Fox’s top right-hand corner – and comeback Bhoy Tom Rogic and substitute Scott Sinclair, making a rare first-team appearance, hit the other two.
While the Celts were in cruise control in the east end of Glasgow, Paul Heckinbottom’s Easter Road outfit were toiling against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
A tense encounter ended goalless after extra-time and the Edinburgh men won through 5-4 on penalty-kicks.
Lennon, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “You always want to avoid the better teams, if you want to call it that. But it’s too early in the season to say that.
“By the time the semi-final comes around, the team you play could be on a great run.
“But we are in a good position, playing with freedom and looking fit.
“It’s a nice feeling to see your name in the semi-final draw. I know we are so accustomed to it, but it’s another cracking game to look forward to.
“No matter who we got, it would have been a good team with the quality left in the draw. We know Hibs will give us a good game on Saturday, too.”
The Hoops travel to Edinburgh for the 12.30pm kick-off hoping to extend their 100 per cent league record as they zero in on nine in a row.
