MIDWEEK MINDFULNESS DIVINATION

As the EARTH maintains ‘rest in place’ how fitting that the DIVINATION for today was the Tarot card ‘HIGH PRIESTESS.’ In the I CHING, the Divine Feminine, the wife, and all the feminine aspects – i.e. intuition, inspiration, stability - symbolize EARTH. I found this gorgeous rose on our walk yesterday signifying the earthly gift of beauty and love. The reading speaks to our current state of health, how we need to listen to our inner knowing, and how the state of affairs is still within the realm of the unknown. Deep contemplation is needed now to stay calm, centred and healthy. We’ve begun to settle into this new routine of detachment from work, friends, even family members, and we are seeing how the planet is healing by our slowdown, how the air is cleaning with blue skies returning, the waters are clearing turning turquoise in colour, the trees, plants and flowers are sprouting happily blown about by the March winds, and the animals are taking back a bit of their territory crossing quiet roads that were once dangerous to their very existence. It seems like MOTHER NATURE is having her way, stopping our inane mindless state of being in the world. The divination also addresses our constant consummation of everything, especially in the West, how we have pushed our local communities and Gaia to her limits. More, more, more, for what? Just these last few weeks we’ve seen just how ridiculous this has become, with tales of people hoarding food, hand sanitizer, and the unbelievable toilet paper syndrome – thinking of only me, me, me, not thinking of the other, their neighbour. The possibility that someone else might also need to survive through this stressful period, the willingness to share, to think of another, has almost disappeared in our day-to-day dealings. Here’s a quote from the NY Times on these effects in the Hamptons: “On Long Island, private plane and jet traffic increased at East Hampton Airport, with everything from single-engine Cessnas and Piper Cubs to Gulf Streams and Falcon jets landing. “We’ve had helicopters, seaplanes, corporate planes,” said Jim Brundige, the airport director. “A little bit of everything.” Stores there have also been stripped. Some people are even buying extra freezers, residents said. “They want to make sure they have enough for a year,” said Jonathan Amaral, the house manager and chef at a gated estate on Southampton’s Main Street. “The shelves were bare. For us locals and middle class people, that hurts.” Thankfully we are now hearing some of the good that is being done not only by our courageous health workers, but also by the organized small and large groups taking care of and assisting the elderly, lonely and needy and it seems that the governments of the world are finally taking notice and implementing relief. We're seeing and sensing the opening of hearts like a good mother who takes care of her children and her family. If this incident is to teach us one thing it is that we are all one family, one globe, one energy system and we need to work together to survive. The push by our magazines, social media, and especially by Instagram Influencers fighting to be known as the best-dressed, the “must haves” showing the best and most expensive outfits, which by the way were mostly sewn by a near slave worker abroad doesn’t bother us at all – out of sight out of mind. Bigger, better, smarter, richer, prettier – this obsession with More and Beauty – just how much Botox can a woman put in her body or just how much money can one have? In my area, I am hearing of women demanding their hairdressers, their manicurists, and their estheticians come to their homes - who is going to see them?!? I am a Libra Rising, I adore Beauty and all things beautiful, but there is a limit. What if we used all this energy, power and influence to promote Beauty in other more natural ways? This 'alone time' might give us the creativity to come up with some amazing ways to put things back into perspective, to a natural balance – that’s that Libra part speaking! Our competitive nature, which used to be of the healthy kind, that stimulated invention, an honest good race, and a handshake in the end, has gone over the top into greed, slander, out and out lies, absurd manipulations of truth, and subversion of economic, political and everyday life in our current Neoliberal society. We’ve transferred control of economic factors to the private sector from the public sector with our bail-out of investment bankers, our sell out to drug, oil and large corporations instead of helping and bailing out the average citizen, but the most critical point which many of our young people are now up in arms about, is where we’ve put our environment in radical danger, our Mother in total stress, forgetting that she is the one who feeds us, clothes us, delights us with her natural beauty. How far away from our true nature we have strayed. But we can change this and I believe that we are being given our chance to reflect, to dig deep into the HEART, into that inner Feminine, SHE is a part of all of us, to find new ways to nurture, share and heal together as one family – we only have one MOTHER.

Full blown 8am panic this morning for me before packing and heading to the airport with what to do with Salah...

Like I said on the pod I’m fairly certain that he’ll be out of my team soooooon (Maddo too probably) but also I don’t know for who, Son or Raz or Mane or Alli being the likeliest lads.

In the end when I’m this unsure of myself and unsure of life and rallying off red arrows for fun it’s sometimes better to just save and roll the transfer and with more time and info and better fixtures I can figure out my moves next week. Probably fuck off three players for a hit and get in Son/Alli and a premium and one other swap maybe Tomori to Kelly or something for the funds...

For now saving feels sorta stale and bad but it’s fine and normal and what I’m used to. Much of life, FPL, and bread is both stale and bad.

Moves are fun and hits are great so that was tempting but I’ve decided to roll a free this GW.

The move that stood out was upgrading Dendocker to Grealish in a straight swap but that sounded better in my head and less good after talking with some guys. Grealish wouldn’t be starting for me and that’s a little too much money in the bank. Also, che, LEI, shu aren’t the best upcoming fixtures.

Probably gonna look at a double move next GW and strongly consider moving Maddison to Alli’s brother.

WATER “NEAR CRISIS”: WATER IN BARBADOS is almost at crisis levels. Barbados Water Authority (BWA) general manger Keithroy Halliday told of the dire situation yesterday, even as the state agency sent out an apology to residents in water-starved communities in St John, St George, St Andrew, St Joseph and St Thomas, who have been crying out as a result of having to go numerous days with dry taps.Halliday said the stark reality was there was no additional water to be pumped.“There is no more water. We are sending as much as we are producing. It is teetering toward crisis level, which is being driven by climate change factors, and the aquifers are not being given the chance to replenish over the years as we would want,” he explained.(MWN)

BRA “NO CHANGES”:Barbadians can still get discounts on their land tax bills, and the original deadline for this statutory requirement has not changed. The Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) made this announcement yesterday as it sought to clear up confusion about due dates for payments.Property owners still have until the end of Government’s current financial year – March 31, 2020 – to pay their land tax in full, the BRA said.However, if people want to get the five per cent discount granted for early payment, they will have to pay the bill by August 31, unless they are among the group who qualify and have chosen to pay in instalments. BANKER STRICT RULES FOR LENDING:Commercial banks are not about to start lending money willy-nilly, despite calls for them to free up some of the $9 billion in deposits to help stimulate economic activity. The Barbados Bankers’ Association president Donna Wellington said banks were prepared to lend money for productive purposes and were doing so. “It’s well understood out there that banks may be a little . . . harder on people in terms of the stringent nature of our lending practices, but our regulators require us to be stringent,” the senior banker stressed.

Barbados Co-operative & Credit Union League Ltd general manager Anthony Pilgrim said some customers were shifting away from the banking sector “to finance companies that are offering better rates of return on deposits”. (MWN)

MASSY RECORDS SMALLER PROFITS IN SOME CARIBBEAN MARKETS:For the third straight quarter of the current financial year the Trinidad & Tobago-based conglomerate Massy Holdings Ltd has recorded a decline in the Barbados market. In his statement for the quarter ending June 30, 2019, which was recently posted, Chairman Robert Bermudez reported that year-to-date profit before tax from Barbados declined two per cent, due mainly to economic challenges. “While year-to-date profit before tax from Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados declined by three per cent and two per cent respectively, significant improvements were achieved from Guyana and Colombia, with gains of 16 per cent and 30 per cent, respectively,” he said. “The integrated business unit profit before tax declined by seven per cent with economic challenges faced by the retail business in Trinidad and the distribution business in Barbados in particular,” he said. There was also an eight per cent decline in St Lucia and St Vincent, which Bermudez said would “regularize itself by year end”. The statement reviewing the period showed that positive contributions came from the financial services line of business, with year-to-date profit before tax increasing by ten per cent. The chairman reported that the group’s third party revenue of $9.1 billion was one per cent below the revenue for the prior year.

“Group profit before tax of $642 million is however, 5.5 per cent higher than the profit before tax in quarter three prior year. Group profit after tax increased by 6.7 per cent from $390 million to $416 million and earnings per share improved by 6.4 per cent from $3.61 in prior year to $3.84,” he reported. He said in the coming financial year the company would execute on identified opportunities to improve efficiencies, effectiveness and user experience through automation, process standardization and the centralization of some activities. “The Group is proceeding with its plans to give greater autonomy and focus to its larger business units to pursue growth and performance improvements, and we expect this to be in place to start the new financial year,” said Bermudez. He said in the short term the group’s growth was likely to come from stronger profit and loss management of its larger business units, cost and efficiency initiatives and its operations in the growing economies of Guyana, Colombia and Jamaica. During the second quarter ending March 31, 2019, the company had reported moderate declines. And in the first quarter, which ended December 31, 2018, it also reported a decline in the Barbados market, which it said was due to reduced consumer spending.(BT)

EASE US: A senior insurance official is calling on Government to provide an ease to the industry so they can significantly boost investments and expand opportunities in Barbados and beyond. Edward Clarke, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc.’s Barbados operations suggested financial institutions are currently very limited. Speaking during the Central Bank’s panel discussion on the 2018 Financial Stability Report, Clarke reported that both general and life insurance companies have been struggling over the last few years to accumulate profits and have started lowering their rates to attract larger portions of the local market. “We have seen years of constant contraction and you had to deal with things a lot differently than in the past,” said Clarke, while pleading for opportunities to “spread the risk on the investment side”. Currently, regulations allow equity, real estate, mortgages and investment grade bonds to be registered in their investment fund. However, the downgrade of Barbados’ Government bonds below investment grade has even further restricted investment opportunities along with foreign exchange limitations due to its scarcity. “In the past most companies, banks, insurance companies and financial institutions were allowed to invest in foreign investments, albeit a small percentage. That dried up for a number of years and we are hoping that would reopen since things seem to be on the way up, it is essential that we spread our risks and investment portfolio,” said Clarke, while pleading for a change in the current regulation of statutory funds. “The way that there are currently structured is very risk averse and you are basically forced into buying government paper and instruments in Barbados. They have dried up as we all know and so the industry long-term has got to find alternative channels for investment including developmental projects and long-term infrastructure type projects.” According to Clarke, insurance companies had already started to explore new development opportunities with the Financial Services Commission to find a compromise that would facilitate local investment in new projects, which he believes would bring future growth to Barbadians. “The funds that we have, we need a channel to invest these funds in, because there’s no more Government paper. That was the easy way and that was the way used to force us into investing in Government paper, but now that that is not there we need to work with our client base and find alternative channels to invest our funds,” said Clarke. In a brief interview with Barbados TODAY after the panel discussion, Clarke explained his appeal extended beyond overseas projects, noting that insurance companies should also be allowed to invest in long-term local projects. “Whether that is a medical complex or a retirement home or renewable energy projects and things for the development of Barbados long-term, that will provide a viable return for the policyholders as well,” said Clarke.(BT)

WATCHING AND WAITING: With Government’s gaze fixed on addressing this country’s squatting problem at Rock Hall, St Philip, squatters in Bellevue, Waterford, say they are keen to hear what solutions the Mia Mottleyadministration has for them. Last week Government announced plans to relocate squatters at Rock Hall, citing the proximity to the Grantley Adams International Airport as well as the fact that the land was once a landfill and could therefore pose some health risk. However, residents at Bellevue told Barbados TODAY that they feel as if they are in the same boat as their counterparts in Rock Hall. They too have established a squatters’ community in that area, designated a critical water zone for the island. Kiki Lomore, who has lived in the community for the last ten years, said that the squatters at Bellevue are on edge. She pointed out that like her, many of the residents are in this position because they simply had nowhere to turn and it would be unfair to revert them to that position. Lomore explained that she and her children were homeless when she decided to make a go of it at Bellevue.“I went to the Government trying to find somewhere to live and they told me that they had starter homes, but they were rather expensive and every time they were giving me the runaround. I had to look for some place for my children. I am not going to stay on the streets with my children because at one point I was on the streets with my kids and that simply was not going to work,” she said, adding that many of the residents had since improved their lots in life and were willing to pay for the land. She added, “The Government needs to help poor people, you can’t just help the people that up there [Rock Hall] because poor people need help too. People have already been asking about paying for the land but we still are getting the runaround about it all the time, but we are willing to pay for it.” Bar owner Carlos Watson who has been living in the area for 11 years, also expressed similar concerns, making it clear that generations were raised in the community and persons were willing to have frank and fair discussions with Government about the next step. “After seeing what is going on at Rock Hall people are a little anxious because we have people that have been living here for over 40 years. Many persons have been trying to help themselves and trying to get their own little piece of the rock. As long as Government isn’t trying to just force anything on us and willing to discuss the way forward, we are ready to sit down and come up with something that is best for everybody,” he said.In addition to the fears of being relocated, residents told Barbados TODAY that they feel as though they have for a long time been the forgotten people. They complained that they are unable to get water connections to their homes and have to rely on fetching water from the standpipe. They also revealed that they are battling with a rodent infestation but have been unable to get help from the Ministry of Health to address the problem. Residents also accused the authorities of treating squatters as if they were sub-human. “Our biggest issue is getting running water, we don’t have running water and we have to go the standpipe to bring back water all of the time. They say that down here is a watershed zone but yet the people just behind us have running water but yet we down here can’t get running water. We also have a lot of rats about the place and no matter how much times you call, the inspectors are not coming through to look at the situation. They forget us down in here, they don’t even study us down in here,” Lomore lamented.(BT)

BOSTIC PROMISES SWIFT ACTION AT ST PHILIP HOSPITAL:Nurses at the St Philip District Hospital are being assured that their concerns about poor working and environmental conditions have not fallen on deaf ears. Minister of Health Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic this morning told Barbados TODAYhe has been fully apprised of the nurses’ concerns and plans to treat the matter with the utmost priority, even if it means diverting funds from other areas of his Ministry. “The district hospitals are in very bad condition, there is no doubt about it; and when I was informed on Friday about the situation at St Philip [District Hospital], I stopped whatever I was doing and I paid a visit to the facility and I did another visit with the Principal Nursing Officer and she outlined to me the areas of concern coming from staff. I cannot deny that there are issues there that need to be dealt with urgently,” said Bostic, who noted that the district hospitals across the island were in dire need of upgrade but that was an undertaking that was too great for the public coffers to bear alone. “So, first of all, we have to do some security upgrades and there are some other issues that we are dealing with and we will have to divert some funds from elsewhere within the Ministry to be able to deal with them. All of the district hospitals have issues and we have been trying to solicit some assistance from the private sector because we do not have all of the finances,” the Minister stressed. Barbados TODAY on Monday reported that mould in the building had resulted in some staff members suffering with respiratory illnesses, prompting them to call on Government to step in and take urgent action. However, Bostic gave the assurance that this problem, which is symptomatic of the island’s chronic nursing shortage, should be addressed when Government completes its recruitment of nurses from Ghana. “We acknowledge that we have a nursing shortage and we have to address that issue. The team is getting ready to go off to Ghana. Apart from that, there are some additional posts that we have to request through the Ministry of the Public Service. We must understand, however, that we are in an IMF programme, so there are going to be some constraints,” the Health Minister said.(BT)

REBUKE FOR PROSCUTORS:Fed up with the number of old cases that have no files, a Bridgetown magistrate yesterday chastised the prosecution as he urged lawmen and investigators to think about those who have been waiting for years to have their matters heard. “We have got to set standards. We have got to,” Magistrate Douglas Frederick declared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.He made the comments as he dismissed at least three cases, one dating back to 2012.At one point the magistrate noted it appeared that senior members of the Royal Barbados Police Force to whom, said one prosecutor, they had been appealing, were “not paying you all any mind. ‘HALF-BAKED’ CASES DISMISSED:There was no mincing of words by Magistrate Douglas Frederick today as he took the prosecutor’s desk to task for failing to have the necessary disclosure to move several dated cases forward. “This is not acceptable . . . this is a serious thing,” Frederick said as he was forced to dismiss three cases in the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court. Julian Roland Holder, of Roberts Gap, Halls Road, St Michael and Junior Christopher Lowe, of no fixed place of abode, walked out of the court free of a burglary charge. The two were 39 and 38 years old respectively when they were charged with entering the house of Angela Bryan as trespassers on October 22, 2012 and stealing a number of items worth $1,655.75. Lowe was separately accused of having a screwdriver and ski mask, articles for use in connection with theft on the same day. The prosecutor requested an adjournment in the case. Accused Lowe addressed the court telling the magistrate that the case against him was almost seven years old and it “doesn’t seem that they have a file”. Holder meanwhile said the matter was taking too long. It was at that time the magistrate questioned why the prosecution was seeking another adjournment and the response was that they were not in possession of a file. “This is not acceptable. This is a matter from 2012. I am sure that this person [complainant] will be aggrieved. This is breaking and entering . . . it is alleged that Lowe had a ski mask and screwdriver,” the frustrated magistrate stated as he dismissed the matter for want of prosecution. Moments later he had to go the same route on a charge levelled against Shaneka Crystal Kyesha Nicholls, of Rose Hill, Kendal Hill, Christ Church. She was 24 years and had been on $5,000 bail, charged with wounding Renita Blackett on April 9, 2016 with intent to maim, disfigure or disable her or to do some serious bodily harm to her. In that case, the prosecution told the magistrate that the file had not yet been completed and gave the assurance that it would be “sorted” in a month. “This is a serious thing,” said the magistrate who went on to say that such a hold up was impacting all parties concerned. “You have to tell the investigators this. They are working, getting a salary,” Frederick said. Nicholls then informed Frederick that on the last sitting he had given a final adjournment on the matter. “They had ample time to do what they had to do. I was here long enough,” the accused stated. Frederick responded: “I had written final adjournment on it and he is asking me not to be a man of my word. “That’s the second time they did this for the day bringing half-baked things,” he added as he made reference to matter against Bertam Fabian Quintyne, of Manns Gap, Passage Road, St Michael which was dismissed earlier in the day. Quintyne had been accused of causing serious bodily harm to Terry Welch on August 3, 2015 with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him or to do some serious bodily harm to him. “They have to set a standard,” Magistrate Frederick stated.(BT)

HOMEOWNER DECEIVED AND ROBBED: Posing as a good Samaritan, an 18-year-old and her accomplice forced their way into the home of a Christ Church man and made away with $400 cash on April 25, 2019. Today, Destiny Malika Tori Johnson, of No. 5 Birch Path, Regent Hill, the Pine, St Michael appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick and pleaded guilty to entering the home of Milton Graham Tucker as a trespasser and stealing the money. Sergeant Edwin Pinder said the first time offender and a male accomplice went to the complainant’s house under the pretense of bringing him food. After they were able to convince him to open his door they barged into the house, searched it and took the money and escaped. A presentencing report has been ordered on Johnson. She was granted bail in the sum of $2,500 which she secured with one surety. She has been ordered to return to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on October 24. Johnson must also appear before the District ‘A’ Traffic Court tomorrow to answer five offences. She is charged with driving motorcar M1152 along Alkins Road on August 16 around 6:06 p.m. and not complying with a stop sign. It is further alleged that she drove the vehicle without the consent of the owner, without a driver’s licence and insurance and did so using fraudulent number plates. The accused is also charged with using the motorcar on the same road and failing to stop when the vehicle was involved in an accident. (BT)

MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ASSAULT: A man who admitted assaulting a woman in December 2017 wants to know why the matter took so long to reach the law courts. Dwayne Ricardo Elliott, of Flagstaff Road, St Michael today pleaded guilty to committing the act against Kibibi Greenidge on December 8, occasioning her actual bodily harm. In his defence, the 33-year-old told Magistrate Douglas Frederick “the woman is a naggy woman. A naggy, naggy woman,” who was not “even my girlfriend”. Elliot said on the day of the incident he was at the van stand when Greenidge started telling him about another woman. He said he heard what she had to say and as he tried to walk off she grabbed onto his shirt. “I don’t let nobody treat me so, so I turn round and push she off . . . and she fall. I push she off me because she grabble me,” Elliott said. He then said, “That happen since 2017 and I now getting charge?”

Magistrate Frederick acknowledged that was a valid question. However, the prosecutor was unable to give an explanation at the time. From the police report the court heard that the two were involved in an intimate relationship for about a year. However the complainant put an end to the relationship because of verbal, physical and psychological abuse as well as the discovery that Elliot was involved with another female. According to the report Greenidge was walking along River Road that Friday in December when she realised the accused was following her. Elliot asked to speak with her and she agreed but the accused subsequently became aggressive and cuffed her in the chest. The matter was reported to the police. The magistrate adjourned the case until September 6 when the complainant is to appear in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court. Elliot who was granted $2,500 bail has been warned to stay away from Greenidge. (BT)

JAMAICAN WOMAN FACING DRUG CHARGES: Earlier today, officers of the Drug Squad charged 22-year-old Shanice Sherika Smith, of Wales District, New Port P.O, Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica in connection with several drug related offences. Smith was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to supply, trafficking cannabis and importation of cannabis. During a routine check of luggage at the Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday, the police canine unit indicated the presence of narcotics in a suitcase on board a Caribbean Airlines flight from Kingston, Jamaica. A subsequent investigation found that Smith was the owner of the suitcase. A search of her suitcase was conducted and four transparent vacuum sealed packages, each containing vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis, were discovered in a false compartment. As a result she was arrested and charged. The weight of the suspected cannabis was four pounds with an estimated street value of $16 000. Smith appeared before Magistrate Laurie-Anne Smith-Bovell at the District ‘B’ magistrates court today, where she pleaded guilty to all four offences. She was fined $10 000 or 18 months in prison on the trafficking charge, and was given a conviction reprimand and discharge on the other three offenses. The fine was not paid and she was remanded to HMP Dodds. (MWN)

After a great start that found me peaking around 10k at GW9, I’m now on four big reds and hovering around 100k. Last week I tried to do the mature and steady thing, making no transfers after a disastrous GW 9 (rank 6m). I was *not* rewarded for my steadfast patience, so naturally I kneejerked my WC on Sunday afternoon.

Biggest issues I wanted to remedy were Ota, Pukki, Kun, Haller, maybe-injured Salah, not having TAA, and a worthless bench. Of course it feels bad wildcarding with two frees but here we are.

My general strategy in FPL is to get on the template as quickly as possible, ride it through the holidays, and then slowly and steadily start to spike differentials through the end of the season. The fact that my WC is very similar to the Slack Hivemind’s bodes well in that respect.

The team feels balanced and good for now.

GK:

Gazzaniga (eve)

It was between Ryan and Gazz and ultimately I went with Gazz because he’s cheaper, has better near-term fixtures, and even if Spurs can’t keep a clean, we now know that he can get 12 saves on a good/bad day.

Think he’s also nailed until 2020, being the clear second choice after Hu-god, not to mention that he *happens* to be from the same town as Poch (Murphy, Argentina - population 3,540).

DEF:

Alexander-Arnold & Robertson (avl)

Going Robbo over Trent to start the season was my biggest regret, so he was the first name in my WC squad.

Doubling with Robbo was easy, especially because I’m going without a Liverpool mid. Having these two gives me a chance at cleans and a steady trickle of offensive cover (if such a thing exists).

Lundstram (BUR)

I’ve had Lundstram since GW1 and he’s not going anywhere.

A nailed 4.0 DEF is a season-long keeper, regardless of team, and Lundy happens to be playing out of position *chefs kiss*. Going with him over Soy this week because it’s home and a better fixture than Palace.

MID:

Sterling and De Bruyne (SOU)

I’ve had Kev all season and he’s good. Barring injury, he’s not going anywhere this year.

I’ve somehow been without Sterling all season, and it’s finally Raz time. Very excited to be adding him when in-form and following a string of blanks.

Mount (wat)

Cheap attacking mid on a top 4 attacking team, easy set and forget.

Martial (bou)

I think the top things to look for in FPL are attacking < 5.0 defenders, a nailed 4.5 forward, and an out-of-position mid on a top team.

Gloves ticks that last box with an elite pedigree and unfulfilled promise to boot. Once Rom was shipped out, Tony became a must-own for me. I think Tony will be a captain option at some point this season.

FWD:

Vardy (cry)

Feels kinda bandwagon-y but an easy one to jump on while the team looks so good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ... He’ll get his goals.

Abraham (wat)

Haven’t had him yet, glad to be here now. Chelsea attack is legit. Tammy is nailed up top. Let’s go.

Maupay (NOR)

My “fun spot” instead of [generic Leicester midfielder] as a fifth mid, I went with Maupay because every year Walsh picks some guy that no one is talking about, and I think it could be Neil.

The numbers are really good, Brighton looks decent, and I didn’t want to miss out on the best fixture of the season.

BENCH:

Söyüncü (cry)

I’ll be playing a 3-4-3 most weeks, with Soy as my first guy in. Cheap and on a good defense.

Rico (MUN)

< 4.5 defender on set pieces on a nominally-attacking side. Easy bench fodder.

Grealish (LIV)

Along with Maupay, Jack’s the other half of my “fun pick.”

When you watch AVL play he’s the guy with his calves on display, doing everything he can to earn a transfer to Man U in the next year or two.

I’m planning on rotating him with Maupay, which is a new strategy for me. Doesn’t feel great to have a ~6.0 guy on the bench every week, but with the fixture pile-up coming, it might be smart?

Unfortunately I was unable to save off the back of the WC which never feels great, but hopefully making a lateral swap here which frees up 1m to boot.

I don't really imagine this going well, since I have slated Ota for a while, and think he's more or less a red card shout / absolute shit house player generally speaking, but here we are.

If it's a transfer waiting to happen, so be it, but the bottom line is I still want a share in City's defense, I don't trust Everton for cleans still, and something didn't feel quite right going all the way down to a Burnley guy in a spot on my team which I realistically need to start week in week out... Until Pep shows us that he is willing to play anyone not named Otamendi as the LCB with Laporte out then I will just hope and pray he doesn't kill anyone (which would thus kill himself with a ban) and doesn't die. Whatever. Cue Dinho and Schtones at CB tomorrow.

Post international break GW is usually a complete disaster crisis gameweek so I am just simply trying to brace myself for it ahead of time.

Pope is looking good in this moment with the good run of fixtures incoming. He's been just a bit below average with only one return through four but the underlying metrics are looking good for him and hopefully he's just a long term hold guy I don't have to worry about.

Trent and Robbo with the home banker okay lets go Livp. Early game so much of my mood for the ensuing foots will be decided by these boys. Realistically a win to nil at home against a bad bus feels like a reasonable expectation for this one so hopefully it comes to fruition.

New nightmare Ota is straight in, obv. Somewhat tricky away fixture for a clean but it's still City so he'll just be an auto start every game until I remove him.

Lundstram (SOU)

Finally, Lundstram gets his first go in my squad home to Soton.

I'm going to be rotating him in and out over the near term so we'll see if this is the beginning of something beautiful between us or the beginning of a fraught relationship that will lead to me hating him for the rest of my life. Time will tell.

MID:

Salah (NEW) & Sterling & De Bruyne (nor)

The trio of Mo Raz and Kev remain and likely will do for some time. Really nothing to say about these three other than they are good. Spots I don't really need to think about at this time.

McGinn (WHU)

Rounding out midfield is someone who is not really that good in McGinn.

Good home fixture with West Ham rolling up so hopefully he is able to get in there. If he looks bad and/or they look bad then I might fuck him off.

He's on a short leash, that's for sure, as he was really the one shit place I compromised on my WC team since I wanted to plump for Laporte... With that money freed up now, no other problems in my team, and a new price bracket open to me... I might fuck him off even if he does return. Who is to say?

Pukki and Haller the two amigos seem like just a couple great value picks and happy to have them.

Great fixture for Haller and he might slowly but surely present himself as a long term hold. Stats and eye test are there with him not to mention the price is right - think he's a really tidy option.

Pukki has a tough fixture but as Farke showed us the lightning and thunder in GW1 at Anfield who knows what's what with them. Obviously they are completely decimated by injury, but I need to see multiple bad attacking performances before I begin to worry here.

Going back to the Raz well again. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, fucking hell fuck me.

Still don't feel confident enough capping Kevin over Raz, and probably won't do all season, if I'm being honest here.

I think Norwich with no fit defensive players (Farke's words, not mine) and the style they employ is not a comparable fixture to a Newcastle bus so I didn't really think about Mo this weekend.

Counting on Raz to not have 0 shot attempts again this week. Obviously the trip to Ukraine midweek for UCL is a thing that is happening, but whatever.

Trying to predict how Pep hands out minutes is like (insert funny thing here) and I don't really want to find some psychological line to talk me into Raz will play 53 minutes only to see him haul and play 88.

Realistically this is a one or maybe two week punt before I pop my Wildcard next week or the week after... Che has actually insanely good expected stats which is nothing to scoff at even though the goals have not flowed at all...

The greater skill to have and the harder skill to find is to keep getting off the high xG shots rather then to be finishing at a higher rate above your xG, if that makes sense... I hope I’ve worded that clearly...

Anyway, TLDR: Che is doing stuff, Southampton are an attacking team in an attacking setup, Ralph is good I like Ralph, and Soton have the fixtures over the next two. And that’s why I went Che.

Ainsley AKA Ashley was rightfully so very deep on my bench for liv TOT and he put up one pointers in each of those so we’re fine.

In his two starts for me (GW1 and 2) he got twelve and two puntos respectively so he’s still been a sneaky great guy for me thus far... Arsenal’s very long very good run of fixtures starts now but Bellerin also is coming back soon so time is running out.

Hoping Arsenal can do a job and keep out the Quique Sanchez Flores bus this week and maybe he’ll sneak another attacking return. Come on Ashley.

Emerson (wol)

Starting Emmy here because Wolves suck at attacking and Chelsea could still keep a clean and Emerson could still get an attacking return who knows?

Rudi looks like he’s back this week which is a huge upgrade and Kante will be back soon which is another huge upgrade but yeah, not feeling great about this pick.

Kevin, for me, so far this season is on a completely new level that we haven’t really seen from him before. His expected stats are out of control and he’s also got the seventh highest Fantasy Goal Involvement percentage of all mids at 54% which is craaaazy high for a team like City.

For what it’s worth too in the past Pep has rode Kevin like a horse in the league and he’s not really ever been a rotation risk. I feel ~some~ percent safer of him starting these kinds of games before UCL then I do with the forwards.

I don’t feel like I have too much choice in who to take out this week. Laporte having knee surgery and set to miss the rest of 2019 means he’s an absolute no brainer to axe.

Who to replace him with is a much more interesting question.

I’ve been playing 5 at the back all season and it hasn’t worked out as well as I’d hoped so far. But I do feel like I’ve been unlucky with Laporte’s injury and his missed clean sheet being the icing on the cake.

If I went for a cheapo like Lundstram, there aren’t many midfielders I’d be desperate to bring in with the spare cash, apart from KDB, who is out of my reach anyway. So I’ll be continuing my Heavy D strategy, bringing in Otamendi, who is 5.4 and nailed on in a top 2 defence.

GK:

Leno (wat)

New manager for Watford, so an inevitable new manager bounce.

I have Heaton (WHU) as a rotation option, but the odds point to Leno for the clean sheet, although it’s quite marginal.

Digne (bou)

I didn’t watch their 3-2 victory against Wolves but I heard Digne looked defensively dodgy. I did watch their 2-0 defeat to Villa the previous week, and while Everton looked completely toothless and unconvincing, Digne at least offered a bit of attacking threat. I’m not expecting a clean sheet here, but Digne has 9 chances created this season. For a defender, that’s second only to…

Alexander-Arnold (NEW)

14 chances created – 14, compared to Digne’s 9; Trent absolutely wipes the floor.

I took a hit last week to upgrade VVD to Trent and I got an immediate positive net return from it. As well as his excellent attacking prospects, Liverpool also have the best clean sheet odds this week by quite a distance.

Robertson (NEW)

Very good chance of a clean sheet this week and although he’s no Alexander-Arnold, he also offers a very good goal threat.

Maybe I’m guilty of picking and choosing stats here, but out of defenders, Robertson’s 2nd for touches in the box this season (12), which is quite a biggie for me when assessing players’ attacking potential.

With Laporte injured, I expect Ota to nail down a place in the first team. Enough said.

Zinchenko has a bit of a Mendy threat looming, but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, another well priced Man City defender who will trickle points as long as he starts. Lacks the explosiveness of KDB (yeah he’s explosive now) or Aguero, but for 5.5, I’ll take a 6 pointer every 2 weeks for sure.

MID:

Salah (NEW) & Sterling (nor)

Grouping these two together because there’s just not that much to say. The two best players in the game don’t need writing about, especially when their fixtures are as easy as this. The only question is which one to captain.

Mount (wol)

14 shots in total this season, 7 on target, both are the highest of any other midfielder. But with only 5 of those shots coming from inside the box and an xG of 0.82, perhaps he’s a bit opportunistic and has been a bit fortunate.

Mount still feels like a bit of an unknown quantity to me and I haven’t watched too much Chelsea this season, but he’s well priced and there are plenty of other options in his bracket, so happy to see how he gets on over the next few.

FWD:

Jota (CHE)

I always like to plan my ideal transfers a few weeks ahead.

Before the last gameweek started, I was planning Jota to Barnes. Unfortunately Laporte got injured, so my priority changed and Jota stays with me for one more week. And Barnes is now injured anyway, so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.

Jota is a funny one. He’s scoring for fun in the Europa League, but looking absolute garbage the following Sunday in the Premier League. He was in the squad, but played 0 minutes in Portugal’s 2 games over the IB. I feel like Jota might redeem himself.

Pukki (MCI)

The main man for Norwich.

If they score, there’s a very good chance that Pukki will be involved.

As an Ota + Zinc owner though I’m kind of hoping they don’t.
