Rage like an inferno ignited up his spine at the words that spilled from Obi-Wan’s lips.
Had Cin not had years of self control and practice with keeping a calm facade, he was certain that the fury that had welled up in his chest would be visible for the entire Council to see.
Silently, he slid his gaze from where he was looking straight forwards over to where Obi-Wan sat, his entire form stock still otherwise.
“You accuse the Temple Guard of the bombing?” he asked, tone as sharp as eyes and just as cold. Part of him relished in the slight flinch in the other Master’s demeanor, and he ignored the look Yoda was giving him.
Yoda wouldn’t understand, would never understand. Kenobi didn’t either.
“You know not of what you speak, Master Kenobi,” Cin warned. “I caution you to things you don’t understand.”
“I only suggest that the Guard are the only ones who could possibly slip something through. One of them certainly could have—“
Cin let out a breath, before turning fully to face Obi-Wan, shoulders squared and head slightly inclined— a mimicry of looking down on the younger member of his linage.
The Council Chamber had gone deathly still.
“The Guard are not individuals, we are one unit. To place one member of the Guard under accusation is to place all of them under accusation,” He said sharply. “You also accuse me.”
“Now, Master Drallig, certainly you must understand—“
“Understand what you want it to be, Master Mundi? Or understand that you have decided to simply use one group as a scapegoat instead of actually putting time and effort into an investigation beyond looking the scene over?”
Cin’s eyes narrowed as he met Ki-Adi Mundi’s gaze, expression one of deathly calm yet eyes colder than ice. And part of him relished again when Mundi snapped his jaw shut— for once in his life, he knew when to shut up.
He turned to face the rest of the Council, meeting their gazes one by one for a moment.
“The Jedi Temple Guard are bound by oath to not cause harm for the sake of causing harm,” He said slowly. “We have no reason to do so. Certainly, we are discontent with how we are treated at times, but that is usual for those that are deemed to be… lesser, isn’t that correct?”
His gaze shifted to Yoda, then over to Mace. “This is not a simple spoken oath. This is an oath that is bound by way of the Force. An old method of keeping dissenters in line. An act of betrayal is impossible, we are sworn to protect and defend the Temple and all within her walls and on her grounds.”
He bowed at that, before he turned to leave despite the lack of dismissal.
“Master Drallig, Oaths can be fabricated, even ones as ancient as that— do you place so much faith on a single oath?”
He paused, glancing over his shoulder at Mace Windu for a moment before he nodded once.
“I do. If the Guard has done it, then we would not be having this conversation. For the Guard to betray the Order and our Oath means death,” he said simply. “We would not be talking. Instead, you would be planning many more funerals for unnamed Jedi and myself.”

“Pull your mask up, Demon.”
Mari’s voice came to Hakra’s left as he dropped the most recent clone who had tried to rush at him. He had failed, of course, rather horribly too. But Hakra’s hand went up to his face nonetheless.
Despite her blindness, Mari was right. The mask that he normally wore to cover his lower face had slipped down in the middle of the massacre that he had gotten into. He was one of the few who did wear one, though unlike those who preferred to wear it to avoid getting blood and other things in their mouths, or the younger ones who were still hesitant to drop their guard masks, he wore it for another reason.
From the corner of his eye, he saw Mari kneel down and wrap her arms around Roq as he came trotting back over.
Mari didn’t bother keeping her face covered when the Order came through, and Hakra envied her almost. When she fought through every battle with that fixed smile on her face, even when spattered with blood and gore.
Not like him.
Mari was confident and serene in battle, able to read the slightest muscle movements before a full action came to pass, able to ignore things around her and keep moving forwards with that smile.
Not like him.
He wondered if her Master had taught her that, because he had seen a similar state of fixed emotion on Shaak Ti’s face before. If Master Ti also did it, then it would make sense that they had both learned from their master as Lineage siblings, right?
Hakra wasn’t sure.
His thumb brushed against his mouth, before he forced his face to relax. The blood that pumped through his veins burned and sang out to him, itching for more, itching for a fight— one that he and Mari would not seek out, he knew.
To leave the Creche undefended would be a crime... and yet, even knowing that he still itched to fight.
His lips twitched again before he could stop them, twisting into an expression he knew would terrify the children if they saw him.
A twisted grin.
“Demon. The next wave is coming.”
Mari’s voice made him jolt a bit before he reached down and pulled his mask  back up.
“I envy your relaxed attitude, Truth.”
With a snap, their sabers ignited and Roq snarled, smoke already curled at his maw. Mari just let out a soft huff of mirthless laughter.
“I only wish I was half as terrifying as you, maybe then these guys would stop thinking I was an easy target.”

sevenish lines (there’s definitely much more) from this thing i guess. More of the Order of Defense AU though
✧ Covetousness is The Incurable Disease✧
The Temple had all but emptied now, save for the Jedi who were a part of the Order of Defense. The air had changed, what had once been a grounding sort of calm and peace was tinged with tension and even blood lust. That was to be expected though, Cin knew as he stood with a wall of black and silver Guard at his back.
Like the Jedi Temple Guard, who had since tossed their masks and robes aside to show their true faces, the Order of Defense had slowly been trained to kill— and many had been chosen by him and the previous Battlemasters and Heads of Security specifically because of a number of reasons.
A natural blood lust for some like Je’Hanta, Gura, and Lo’Roh that could be channeled into a vicious protective streak. Natural skill and talent that far surpassed others in those like Shaak Ti, Morrigan Lai, and his own former student, Serra Keto. There were others, of course, like Fae Koon and Aurèle Oriel, long-lived Jedi who had hundreds of years of experience and a will to defend to their last breath. And the Jedi Temple Guard and himself... Jedi who swore oath to defend the Order, by any means, no matter the cost.
So it made sense that when he had issued an order of emergency, and thus a call for the Order of Defense to take up arms, the blood lust and itch for combat arose within them.
It was safe to say that the death of four, skilled Masters that had gone to arrest the Chancellor was enough to issue an order of Emergency. And even more so with one Anakin Skywalker being so tinged with darkness that Cin could taste it marching up to the Temple with a whole battalion of Clones behind him.
Not sure who already did this so uh, no pressure Tags: @purgetrooperfox @dilf-archivist @spacerocksarethebestrocks @iamthespacegeneral @milf-maul (and also Uno Reverse @ u cheeri)

Note
your temple guard au is awesome mainly because we get to see the guards not only being allowed to be badshit feral but also be the complete and utter badasses they should be. i wanna know more
I meant to answer this earlier lmao
Anyways!! thank you!! I'm glad you liked the AU! I've decided to call it the Order of Defense AU now, and it includes a few other non-guard Jedi who have agreed to walk the path of the Necessary Monster with the Guard and Cin, but not the same path of the Guard. Just because I needed a few more hands on deck and a Councilor’s backing.
In my universe. the Jedi Temple Guard are essentially taught stealth-arts in order to blend into the Temple and go unnoticed in order to further obscure the numbers and identities within the Guard.
These arts include being able to almost completely silence their steps and the noises that people make naturally as they walk, or even run, and even conceal their Force signature so that it blends in with the general Temple's feeling.
Because of this, they are the least remembered group in the Order. Yes, Jedi know there is a Temple Guard, but it's not like the Jedi are constantly looking and spotting the Guard. They sorta just... fade until they need to be noticed.
(more under the Cut)
This, along with the fact that by principle, the Jedi Temple Guard are almost a separate entity from the rest of the Order— as by joining the Jedi Temple Guard you surrender your known identity and are no longer known to the Main Order to the point where these Jedi are considered to be dead by the others— allows for the Guard to train in absolute secrecy within the Guard Hall.
This fact is only known by three parties outside of the Guard: the Head of the Guard, the Head of Security (which, at this point in time, are the same as Cin Drallig holds both positions), and the rest of the Order of Defense— the other Jedi who follow the same path of necessary monsters, but do not follow the Guard's path.
(Jedi like Serra Keto and the late Master Tyvokka, along with a number of my own OCs)
In general, the Role of the Jedi Temple Guard is to protect the Jedi Order. The original Oaths stated to do as such no matter the cost, even if it means breaking the oath of identity or death. Over time this has changed to allow leeway during times of war on the Temple— when the Jedi Guard don white and beige, the Ivory Masks laced with Gold are their faces, but when the Guard no longer don their masks and their faces are seen by the Order, it is only because they have entered battle and will not dishonor their enemies by not allowing them to know the face of their death.
The Jedi Temple Guard, in this form of the Necessary Monster, will have more than just their lightsabers to subdue their opponents— they will use their own hands, or various weaponry hidden on their person. The Jedi Temple Guard hidden in the spires and high outcroppings of the Temple will no longer set their blasters to stun and shoot with deadly accuracy, and the Guard's Hound will no longer hold back his teeth nor flame.
While the Jedi do not endeavor to kill, some question on if this Order of Defense is really to code, but in truth what they do could be considered Self Defense, after all— for it is an Order that is a sleeping giant within the Jedi, only waking if the Temple and those within it are attacked.
But they are not limited to just external threats, from the very beginning, they are trained and have created countermeasures in order to take any other Jedi out if they threaten or harm the Jedi Order— including one another.
But that doesn't let stop them from being a close-knit unit, the Jedi Temple Guard are, after all, a family of sorts.

The thing about the Jedi Temple Guard is people tend to forget that their oath states that they must protect and defend the Order, by any means, no matter the cost. Perhaps next time, Anakin might think twice about marching on the Temple with the intent to kill while over a hundred Jedi with no qualms about killing in order to protect the Order are stationed there— even if it means bringing him or the clones to death with their own hands and their identities known. Even if that means, for Ashe, killing the Clones that he once saw as friends.
(AU notes and Taglist below, ID in rb)
As per usual, I’ve wanted to do another AU with the Jedi Temple Guard. I don’t have it all mapped out but the general premise is that the Jedi Temple Guard are just a defensive and protection unit during a time of peace, they are uniform, and considered a single body lead by the Head of the Guard (Be it the Head Guard (different) assuming the position at the time or the Head of Security who has been granted that position).
They don ivory and gold as a sign of peace within the Temple, and are without a face. However, the moment danger comes to the Temple, when an enemy army is at their doorstep? They change. This moment is the only time when their faces and identities are known individually without breaking their oath, because is it not honorable for your enemy to know who it is they will die to?
Nonetheless, this face of the Jedi Temple Guard is that of a necessary monster— because the Jedi do kill wantonly, but protect, and yet, when it comes down to it, who is it that protect the Jedi Order? The Temple Guard will kill in order to defend, and perhaps they are monsters because of it.
But these are things that Anakin Skywalker did not know, things that Palaptine did not know. Because when Cin Drallig felt the snap in the Force signifying that four Masters had been killed, so did the rest of the Guard. And thus they acted accordingly. Palpatine expected for the Jedi to be taken off guard, as did Anakin as he lead the 501st to the Temple.
He did not expect to see the Jedi Temple Guard without their masks of white and gold waiting for him at every turn, he did not expect the wild and vicious side of the Jedi, who used their lightsabers as much as they used mundane weapons and their own fists, unflinching and not hesitating at all when facing down the Clones that the Jedi trusted so much.
