Water quality main concern to host open water swimming test event at Tokyo Olympic 2020
Organizers of next year's Olympic and Paralympic Games will have the chance to inspect the water quality at Odaiba Marine Park when the venue hosts the open water swimming test event for Tokyo 2020 tomorrow. A total of 40 athletes 23 men and 17 women have entered the competition at the Tokyo 2020 venue. Fans who want to watch the live-action of Olympic Swimming can get Olympic Swimming Tickets online.
Both races will be contested over five kilometers, half the Olympic distance of 10km. The event will give Tokyo 2020 and the International Swimming Federation (FINA) a closer look at conditions at Odaiba Marine Park, which is also due to host triathlon at next year's Games.
Tumblr media
Last October, organizers announced positive water quality test results from the venue. FINA and the International Triathlon Union had raised concerns in 2017 regarding the quality of the water after a survey revealed it was not good enough to meet their required standards.
Test results showed levels of E. coli up to 20 times above the accepted limit and fecal coliform bacteria seven times higher than the permitted levels. Fears have been allayed since, although Tokyo 2020 will be keeping a close eye on the standard of the water during tomorrow's races.
The Organizing The committee has also taken measures to monitor and improve the quality levels at the venue, including underwater screens which could be deployed during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The open water test event is the latest to be held as part of the Ready Steady Tokyo Olympic 2020 series.
Tumblr media
According to the Tokyo Olympic 2020 Organizing Committee and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the results of the further tests should allay fears. The Organizing Committee facilitated a series of experiments that aimed to monitor the water quality levels and provided updates on the work they had done to improve the situation.
A test was performed during the dates that correspond to those scheduled for the Games and Tokyo 2020 reported that there were no instances where the targeted maximum of the water temperature of 31 degrees Celsius was exceeded.

Olympic snowboard halfpipe medalists Shaun White and Ayumu Hirano are the leading cross-sport names at the World Skate Park World Championship starting tomorrow in São Paulo. Qualifying points for Tokyo 2020 are on offer at the four-day event which also serves as the seeding competition for all remaining Olympic qualifiers next year with the exception of the 2020 World Championships. Fans who want to watch the live-action of Olympic Park Skateboarding can get Olympic Park Skateboarding Tickets online.
The United States' White a three-time Olympic champion was a skateboarder before he was a snowboarder. He has claimed two Summer X Games gold medals in the skate vert discipline and although that will not feature at Tokyo 2020 White is hoping he can transition to park skating.
Tumblr media
Hirano finished second behind White at Pyeongchang 2018 to add to his silver medal from Sochi 2014 and is keen to represent host country Japan at Tokyo Olympic 2020. While the 20-year-old has been entered into the World Skate Park World Championship by the Japan Skating Federation, White has been granted a wildcard entry and faces a battle to secure one of the three US spots for Tokyo 2020.
Tom Schaar and Zion Wright are both funded members of the US national skateboard team, while seven other American men have qualified for the event by virtue of their world ranking, including Jagger Eaton who is normally associated with street skateboarding.
Brazil's Pedro Barros is the defending world champion and will be looking to retain his title in addition to gaining vital qualifying points in front of a home crowd. Worth looking out for on the women's side of competition is 11-year-old Sky Brown.
The youngster, who has a British father and Japanese mother and was born in Japan, is hoping to represent Great Britain at Tokyo Olympic 2020 where skateboarding will feature for the first time.
Tumblr media
Brown joined the British skateboarding team in January and has been busily collecting qualification points, reaching the Dew Tour semi-finals and finishing fifth at both the International Skateboarding Open in Nanjing and the X Games in Minneapolis.
In São Paulo is likely to have to overcome the American Brighton Zeuner who will be one of the favorites to triumph despite coming back from injury. Still just 15 she is already a two-time Summer X Games champion in the park discipline.
A total of 160 athletes 99 men and 61 women have entered the event at Parque Cândido Portinari with the top 20 skaters on the World Skateboarding Rankings in each event getting seeded byes. The top four go through to the semi-finals and the next 16 to the quarter-finals. Everyone else will take part in the open qualifiers with seven to 10 riders in each heat.
Each skateboarder gets two runs of 45 seconds in this round, with the best run counting and the top 16 advancings to the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals and semi-finals, there will be four heats of eight and five riders per heat respectively.
In these rounds, each skater gets three runs of 45 seconds with the best run counting but the clock stops upon a fall and the run is over with no restarts allowed. The only change in the final, which is a single heat of eight riders, sees the number of 45-second runs per rider increased to four.

All Blacks refuse a chance to play for New Zealand at Tokyo Olympics 2020
New Zealand Rugby's head show high-performance Mike Anthony has exposed that star player from the country's All Blacks squad turned down the chance to be part of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 sevens team. Fans who want to watch the live competition of Olympic Rugby can get Olympic Rugby Tickets online.
No players from the All Blacks, the back-to-back Rugby World Cup winners have been released from their clubs to play in the sport's smaller format in the run-up to the Olympic Games. Players were approached from September but Anthony said all had declined.
Tumblr media
"A number of them ruled themselves out when we got responses either from the players or their agents he said to Stuff which speculated that Rieko Ioane, Sevu Reece, and George Bridge were likely among those contacted. At the end of the day those players have made a decision that they want to focus their energy elsewhere, given the challenges at the end of the year and coaching and so on. They have made that choice pretty early on in the process.  So they let us know which allowed us to focus on the group that was keen to be a part of it."
Four players have been released from their Super Rugby club sides to join the sevens preparations Caleb Clarke, Etene Nanai-Seturo, Salesi Rayasi, and Scott Gregory. World Cup winner Sonny Bill Williams was the only All Black to appear in New Zealand's sevens team when the format made its Olympic debut at Rio 2016.
Tumblr media
The Kiwis had a disappointing tournament as they lost in the quarter-finals to eventual champions Fiji, with Williams rupturing his Achilles in their opening game against Japan and missing the rest of the Games. According to Reuters, Coach Gordon Tietjens later claimed that pressure had been placed on top players to not make themselves available.
He said he felt he had lost the support of New Zealand Rugby. New Zealand's men and women won the Commonwealth Games rugby sevens titles in Gold Coast last year.
The men qualified for Tokyo Olympics 2020 after finishing third behind Fiji and United States in the 2018-2019 World Rugby Seven Series. The All Blacks are currently preparing for their World Cup title defense which begins in Japan next month.

Ryan and Belcher edge closer to a hat-trick on Tokyo Olympics 2020 course at Sailing World Cup
Mat Belcher and Will Ryan took over the lead in the 470 fleets at the Sailing World Cup in Japan, as they look for a third victory in quick succession on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics course.
The Australian Olympic silver medalists won the 470 World Championship title at Enoshima Yacht Harbor at the start of this month then triumphed at the Olympic test event which concluded last week. Fans who want to watch the live competition of Olympics Sailing can get Olympics Sailing Tickets online.
They are making full use of the chance to experience potential Tokyo 2020 conditions and claimed two race victories and a second-place on day three of competition. It came as extra races were added after the weather curtailed the schedule on each for the first two days.
There were light breezes on day one which changed dramatically into huge winds and waves yesterday. Big waves were still a feature today but a full programmer of racing was possible despite many boats capsizing. Belcher the Olympic champion at London 2012 alongside Malcolm Page and Ryan now sit on four points.
Tumblr media
Spain's Jordi Xammar Hernandez and Nicolas Rodriguez Garcia-Paz are five points behind. China's Yunxiu Lu enjoyed a perfect day in the women's RS: X with three race victories and now leads the way by 11 points. Olympic champion Charline Picon of France heads the chasing pack.
Belgium's test event winner Emma Plasschaert has gone top in the women's laser radial despite an average day which saw her finish eighth, 15th and seventh. Nobody else could take advantage and she leads by two points from Denmark's world champion Anne-Marie Rindom.
In the women's 470, Australia's Nia Jerwood and Monique de Vries ended the fourth second and second to top the standings by five points in front of Italy's Elena Berta and Bianca Caruso. Tita said. "It looks pretty intense when you’re out there the waves are short and quite big for the wind.  It's hard to sail the Nacra with the foils. For sure we like the conditions with wind and waves in Enoshima we suffer a bit in the light wind.  At the moment we've always had good winds here so we're happy with that."
Dutchman Nicholas Heiner was third and fifth to build a six-point lead over Canada's Tom Ramshaw in the Finn, while in the men's 49er, Germany's Tim Fischer and Fabian Graf has a seven-point lead despite finishes of the sixth 14th and sixth.
Tumblr media
Poland's Dominik Bukkake and Szymon Wierzbicki are the German pair's nearest challengers. There were numerous black flag disqualifications in the first race of the 49erFX including Brazil's Rio 2016 champions Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze.
The South Americans won the test event and were overnight leaders, but have now slipped to sixth after also failing to finish their third race. Denmark's Annemiek Bekkering and Annette Duetz also received a black flag first-up, but then recorded back-to-back third-place finishes moving top with an eight-point lead. Burling and Tuke Rio Winners regain the lead at Tokyo Olympics 2020 sailing test event
New Zealand's reigning Olympics champions Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have regained the lead in the men's 49er class at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics test event. Two second-places and a third in Enoshima were enough for the Rio 2016 gold medalists to replace Lukasz Przybytek and Pawel Kolodzinski of Poland at the top of the pile. Fans who want to watch the live competition of the Olympics Sailing can get Olympics Sailing Tickets online.
It came on a day of shifting winds and tricky conditions which provided a different challenge to yesterday's action where light breezes forced a curtailing of the schedule. It means the sailors competing are getting a good impression of what the conditions could be like at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics regatta next year.
Elsewhere Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti of Italy continue to lead the Nacra 17 class despite collecting a ninth their worst result of the week so far. Sweden's Jesper Stalheim has knocked New Zealand's Sam Meech off top spot in the laser and admitted the conditions had been hard.
Tumblr media
He said. "We've had a bit of everything Today we had a shifty offshore wind, whereas on the first day we had epic southwest winds and big waves. It looks like there will be two more light wind days coming up so we'll see what they get."
Maria Erdi of Hungary finished 32nd to lose her lead in the laser radial which is now headed by Belgium's Emma Plasschaert. In the men's Finn Britain's Olympics champion Giles Scott lost the lead he claimed yesterday as Hungary's Zsombor Berecz rose back to the summit.
The 49erFX is led by a British boat as Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey kept their spot on top, while Australia's Mat Belcher and Will Ryan are the new men's 470 leaders after replacing Spaniards Jordi Xammar and Nicolas Rodriguez.
Tumblr media
There is strong home interest in the women's 470 fleets which is led by Japan's Ai Kondo Yoshida and Miho Yoshioka. In windsurfing action, China's Mengfan Gao rose to the top of the men's RS: X to replace France's Thomas Goyard while his compatriot Yunxiu Lu keeps her lead in the women's class.
Action at the test event, being held under the Ready Steady Tokyo banner continues tomorrow and will run until Thursday, August 22. Great Britain's women's softball team has moved a step closer to qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games. The side won all seven of their matches at the European Championship in the Czech Republic including 2-0 wins over the hosts on Wednesday.
Tumblr media
Head coach Rachael Watkeys said. "That was the first mission accomplished."
Great Britain will now move on to a six-team Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier tournament from 23 July. Only one team from that will be among the six countries in Tokyo in 2020. In Ostrava at the European Championship, GB defeated Greece, Germany, Croatia, and Switzerland to top Group D in the first round. They then beat Ireland, the Czech Republic, and Spain in the second round to top Group E.

Tokyo 2020: Jamaican Sprinter Williams reproached after a failed drugs test
Jamaican teenage sprint star Briana Williams has been given a public reprimand at an Independent Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (IADP) hearing after testing positive for the banned diuretic hydrochlorothiazide. I look forward to returning to the track for the Olympic 2020 season. Olympic Fans who want to watch the live competition of Olympic Sprint can get Olympic Sprint Tickets online.
The 17-year-old is the current world under-20 champion in the 100 and 200 meters, with a personal best of 10.94sec in the 100m.
Tumblr media
She recorded that time at the Jamaican Championships in June, booking her place at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships but also reportedly tested positive for the banned substance.
Williams' representative Emir Crowne claimed the substance was contained in an over-the-counter, cold-and-flu medication given to her by a close relative, but was not listed as an active ingredient as reported by Jamaican newspaper The Gleaner.
It was also reported that Williams declared the medication on her doping control form while being tested by Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission officials.  She was made aware of the result on July 25.
The IADP has now ruled that Williams "established no significant fault or negligence as she was given tablets by her guardian and had no intentions to cheat in her in-competition sprint event on the 21st June 2019".
She has therefore been reprimanded but without a period of ineligibility.  The IADP has also recommended Williams undergoes another education program on the anti-doping rules.  Williams the world-youth 100m record holder says she now focuses her energy on making Jamaica’s national team to the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan 2020.
Tumblr media
Despite escaping a ban, Jamaica Observer reported that Williams will not make her senior national debut at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, beginning today.
It was thought there would not be enough time for Williams to compete in Qatar's capital even if she was cleared, but the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) opted to name her in their squad.
"It's okay," said Ato Boldon, Williams' coach, to Jamaica Observer.  She's been exonerated and that's the main thing - she'll be back. The panel did its job in considering the scientific evidence and expert testimony that it heard. I am relieved for Briana, who has shown amazing resilience at her age.  I just spoke to her and she was crying happy tears."
Boldon of Trinidad and Tobago, was the men's 100m Olympic silver medalist at Sydney 2000 and faced a similar situation to Williams in 2001.  He tested positive for the stimulant ephedrine but was only given a warning, as the substance can be found in many over-the-counter remedies.

Australian softballers celebrate the Tokyo Olympic 2020 qualification
Australia's softball team booked their place at next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo defeating China 9-3 in the last game of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Softball Asia/Oceania Qualifier in Shanghai. Fans who want to watch the live competition of Olympic Softball can get Olympic Softball Tickets online.
It's a fifth Olympic Games for the Australian team, with head coach Bob Harrow's sideways too strong for a gallant Chinese outfit at the Shanghai Sports Training Center A pair of double plays in the first two innings set the scene with Australia producing three double plays in total.
Tumblr media
Chen Jia had initially led off with a single while Li Qi was hit by a pitch but a hard grounder to second base served a 4-6-3 double play for Australia. China continued to make inroads thanks to a single from Yan Siyu, but Australia delivered a five-run rally to take the lead which they would not relinquish.
"It's an awesome feeling," Harrow said. It has been the longest week, but the players got their reward at the end of it with their hard work. It is simply great to be back at the Olympics after a 12-year wait. We have a great history in the Olympics, having won one silver and three bronze medals. I am aware the competition in Tokyo is going to be much tougher with higher-ranked teams, but we ourselves are going for the gold."
Australia is the sixth and final qualifier for the tournament at Tokyo Olympic 2020 when the sport will be appearing on the Olympic program for the first time since Beijing 2008.
They join hosts Japan world champions the United States and Italy Mexico and Canada who qualified in earlier regional tournaments.  Australia's captain Stacey Porter was overwhelmed at the result.
Tumblr media
"I waited for 12 years to return to the Olympics and it is so rewarding to be back at the Tokyo Olympics," she said.  Having won a bronze at the Athens 2004 Olympics and the silver in Beijing 2008 I am looking forward to the gold medal in Tokyo. It is not going to be easy, but we are determined to emerge tops this time around. I may be 38, but I am far from quitting the game."

Tokyo 2020: Olympians ready to make Rugby World Cup history
A host of Olympians are set to take the field at the Rugby World Cup in Japan helping to enhance the reputation of the contracted form of the game. A total of 18 players from nine nations will be on show over the next six weeks of competition. Olympic Fans who want to watch the live competition of Olympic Rugby can get Olympic Rugby Tickets online.
Rugby sevens made its Olympic 2020 Summer Games debut at Rio 2016 with Fiji proving too strong for Great Britain to take gold-winning 43-7 in the final. The sport is consistently improving thanks to increased competition and revenue and experience at the Rugby World Cup will undoubtedly help player development.
Tumblr media
Of the 18, eight are Olympic medalists, including four Fijians: Leone Nakarawa Viliame Mata Josua Tuisova and Semi Kunatani. Two Britain silver medalists Ruaridh McConnochie and James Davies, who will represent England and Wales, respectively in Japan, and bronze medalists Chelsin Kolbe and Kwagga Smith from South Africa, complete the line-up of Olympic medal winners.
Also on the roster of Olympians is New Zealand’s Rugby World Cup winner Sonny Bill Williams and All Blacks teammate Reiko Ione who was named World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year in 2017.
Host nation Japan includes three Olympians from the team who finished an impressive fourth in Rio 2016 and Argentina, France and the United States have also selected Olympians in their World Cup squads. Fiji captain Leone Nakarawa is relishing the transference of skills.
"Fifteen is more about power and endurance, so repeatedly getting tackled and getting up again," said Nakarawa who will be competing at his third Rugby World Cup.  But the fitness and strength you get from sevens really helps.  Because of that you never feel tired out there."
Great Britain is looking to go one better than silver in Tokyo Olympic 2020but McConnochie is fully focused on the challenge right in front of him.
Tumblr media
"The Olympics was incredible and I never thought I would be here in a national 15s side at the Rugby World Cup," he said. Going into Rio we knew it would be pretty chaotic. It is good to embrace that chaos and carnage and know that it is not always going to be perfect and it is how you react and overcome that."
Qualification is already underway for the Tokyo Olympic 2020 sevens tournament.
