my stream of consciousness during death note (2017)
So I finally watched this shit show last night, and kept a running document of every thought I had in order. Here are some of the top ones: (under the cut because....it gets a little long. it’s worth it though!)
okay so first of all what the fuck is this opening song.
LOSER LIGHT GETS PAID TO DO PEOPLES HOMEWOEK.
Wow I wish I was as cool as goth head cheerleader Misa Mia
Ooh look at that chemistry
Light looks like a failed wannabe white guy kpop star
Someone gif those opening "death note" letters please
What's with the fucking illuminati symbols on the book ??
Rain makes everything more symbolic I can't believe the creativity of their choices
Aw he's seeing a girl get bullied OF COURSE that's motivation enough to kill
I can't believe Light is a feminist icon stepping in to save Misa Mia like that.
Oh god his whole speech about “technically you bullying me is child abuse” needs to be a copypasta. Someone needs to slap that kid.
SOMEONE JUST SLAPPED THAT KID.
Why does his voice sound like that
Why does his face look like that
Why does he have frosted tips
I can't believe Light is the loser loner pining after the head cheerleader with a girlfriend.
Light is ?? A troublemaker ???
Why is the death note so crusty looking
Marbles.
LIGHT'S SCREAMS MAKE ME SCREAM I want that as my ringtone
"Shall we begin." Wow I love Star Trek Into Darkness.
"Some 8 foot tall demon looking motherfucker" is honestly the best possible description of Ryuk so at least they got that one right.
RIP Light's first victim, Kenny Doyle. You will be missed.
This Bitch chooses one of the most violent possible deaths for his first victim ???? But canon light didn't like. Start out wanting to cause his victims physical pain. He's not a sadist he's a moral janitor.
CANON LIGHT WOULD HAVE THOUGHT CHEATING WAS A BIG DEAL !! HE WOULD HAVE KILLED PEOPLE LIKE HIMSELF !!
Oh my god he's so angsty just get a fucking diary.....wait...
Wow I love blatant exposition dropping. I wonder how many times him and his dad have had that exact same conversation over dinner conveniently explained Light's tragic backstory.
Because this is America. You can't kill people without a tragic backstory (if you're white)
Is he going to scream like that every time Ryuk shows up?
"Your fingers are huge." Hmm? Why do you care about that, Light? Unless you have something you want to share with the class?
I can't believe they changed Ryuk's motivation that's like everything about him as a character. He didn’t say he was bored like, a single time in this whole series what’s the point.
He has a whole file on his tragic backstory that he keeps laying around in his room this is next level bullshit.
JESUS FUCKINF CHRIST LIGHT WHAT HAPPENED TO SIMPLE HEART ATTACKS
He. Impaled himself. On a steak knife.
Light's mom was a hippie !!!!!
I can't believe Light's motivation is "karma's a bitch" what an icon.
I can't believe Misa Mia’s turned on by murder.
Actually. I can believe that.
Light's just. Carrying around the death note right in the open.
"I can't tell you” *brief pause* “so you really want to know?" BITCH YOU EIDN'T EVEN LET HER ANSWER. SHE SEEMED SO UNINTERESTED ANYWAY. WHY DO YOU HAVE THIS COMPULSIVE NEED TO CONFESS THAT YOU’RE A MURDERER!
LIght wants pussy that bad.
"Your poetry sucks" okay I actually kind of like that line, Misa Mia’s a snarky bitch like she deserves to be.
She looks bored. Light she doesn't want part of your murder fest !! you don't have to confess so often !!
as soon as the police swat car hit that guy my friend turned to me and said "when you're a police officer but still text and drive"
Ooh blurry lights that's an edgy cinnamon topography choice.
I don’t like how everyone in this movie is all mumbling.
How many people are going to make mood boards out of the scene where Light and Misa Mia are leaning against that neon sign???
"Do you think I'm crazy?" "If anything I think you're not crazy enough" wow I love the joker and harley quinn!! normal is just a setting on the dryer~~~ rawr
TEHY'RE POST MURDER FUCKING
I said out loud "I can't believe they're going to post murder fuck" and my friend said "But you'd think that was kinky in high school" and i said "hell I think that's kinky now" why am i like this
I can't believe this whole murder fuck montage. They're so cute and in love. My friend just said “relationship goals” and i want to turn off this movie.
Is that Beastly in their school library????
"What they want is a god."
Okay actually I can see Light getting off on talking about he's a god while fucking. I've read enough fanfiction to prepare me for that scene.
Why does he look like that??
I just love that "Kira saves" graffiti
Why did Kira kill 11 people in a nightclub what did they do ? so serial cheating for money is okay but getting drunk and having sex isn’t?? alright Light.
L looks like a serial killer with the mask and the hoodie and the dead bodies and I’m.......not loving the look
WATARI ISN'T EVEN JAPANESE. THAT'S NOT EVEN HIS NAME. WHY IS THE ONLY JAPANESE ACTOR THE ONLY CHARACTER CANONICALLY NOT JAPANESE.
I appreciate his continued sweets addiction though. He is. The only good thing in this movie.
Is he singing wizard of oz what the fu k is happening in this movie
Why do they all talk so quiet
the most inaccurate thing that’s happened so far is actually L taking a nap
Could Light act....a little LESS blatantly on Kira's side????
Detective James Turner.
Honestly this movie is just......boring.
I feel like the voices are at a much lower volume than the music and it’s just...bad
How does he know Kira's in Seattle ??? Is this explained or did I just miss it ???
"What would you do if some guy fucked me?" "I’d kill him." Wow I love this scene in Baby Driver.
I want that furniture.
Oh I get it. His voice is muffled because of that fucking face mask.
"Rest your glutes"
All the things they could have kept and they kept L and Watari giving Light's dad ice cream?
Okay we see Light and Misa at school all the time, but are they ever ??? In class ??
OF COURSE L IMMEDIATELY GOES ON NATIONAL TV
L in a big black hoodie with the big American flag waving in the background is exactly what I expected out of this adaptation.
Light telling Ryuk to shut the fuck up is something I imagined hundreds of times in the anime but never thought I would be lucky enough to see on screen.
"Besides I think you can tell when you're sitting across from a killer like Kira." HAHAHAHAHA WOW I LOVE THIS DRAMATIC IRONY !!
Light is smart. We know this because we keep saying how smart he is. It doesn’t matter that he’s not making any smart decisions. We said he’s smart so he is.
I can't believe it's dark outside and they're both wearing sunglasses. You know who wears sunglasses indoors? Douche bags. And blind people.
Ooh Misa Mia doesn't want to pop popcorn and murder a few people there's gotta be trouble in Hollywood romance paradise
I hate the music choices in this movie. a lot.
"There are no sides. Only the game.” what.
I can believe Misa Mia’s casually watching torture porn on tv
WHY IS LIGHT'S DAD BASICALLY COMMITTING SUICIDE BY ANNOUNCINF HIS NAME AND HAVINF A PRESS CONFERENCE AND WHY DOES HIS VOICE SOUND LIKE THAT. there's a difference between not being afraid and being a fucking idiot !!!
I can't believe Light just admitted to not being the good guys anymore.
I CAN'T BELIEVE MISA MIA IS LIGHT ???
Light needs to put his dick away. He really needs to put his dick away.
The cafe scene is really aesthetically pleasing and I hate it.
"I don't do check, Light, only checkmate" FUUUUCK.
IS THIS HOe FUXKING ADMITTING ?? THIS DUMB HOE IS ADMITTING TO BEING A SERIAL MURDERER AND ASKING L TO JOIN HIM THIS IS. A SHITTY FANFICTION. WHY IS HE SO DUMB. WHY DOES HE CONFESS TO WVERYONE HE TALKS TO.
Is Light going to get back with her just because she said I love you  ?? LIGHT SHE TRIED TO KILL UR DAD respect yourself !!
Watari isn't his real name ????  Also what's the point leaving him alive? Free ice cream? Jesus light.
Why do they say Kira with the accent if it's not Japanese ?
L is.....coming slightly unhinged.....he seems.... to have a lot more anger issues that he needs to work through.
LIGHT IN A TOP HAT. I can't believe they're going to this dance.
I just said "At a certain point it's not even entertaining anymore. It's just pathetic." and my friend, who is now drunk, said "I'm still pretty entertained but maybe it's because I'm drunk."
I can't believe L grew up in that creepy ass murder shack.
Actually. I can believe L grew up in that creepy ass murder shack. Also I saw the illuminati symbol like five times in that house so what's the truth????
HE DOES HAVE A NORMAL PEOPLE SCARE ME STICKER IN HIS LOCKER I THOUGHT THAT WAS AN EDIT.
Lmao I can't believe Misa Mia was the real mastermind the whole time. "You don't get to feel morally superior for being a pussy." OH SHIT. Oh my fuckin god he fuckin dead.
also L needs to calm the fuck down. Do they not teach you how to drive in the orphanage?
I don't know just what happened with that store owner attacking the armed black man assaulting the teenager in an alley way but it felt racist.
Light is desperate and pathetic. Has he made....a single smart decision?
"JESUS TAKE THE FERRIS WHEEL!!! TAKE IT FROM MY HAND !!!"
Chicago's I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love? Are you fucking kidding me?
At least Misa Mia died how she lived. Aesthetically pleasing.
What the fuck is even happening in this movie. HE CONFESSED TO HIS DAD TOO.
"I thought I was going to kill all the bad guys and re good guys would win but it wasn't like that" OH LOOK !! CONVENIENTLY A MORAL !!
and in the end, the white loner character who develops a god complex and goes on a murderous rampage killing hundreds of people and declaring himself god.....gets away with it......but at least he learned a valuable lesson about the nature of good and evil !!!!
anyway those are my thoughts I hope you liked them !!

Netflix Death Note 2/10
I watched this POS. I watched all of it. I forced a friend to watch it with me because I couldn’t go through it alone.
I couldn’t go more than 5 minutes without pausing it to sCREAm at how poorly it captured the original. I dented my wall guys. I became so enraged seeing one of my favorite series brought this low. It destroyed its source material and left behind the worst adaptation yet of Death Note and just an all around poor quality film. If you haven’t seen Death Note and are afraid of spoiling the source material with this film, don’t worry! Maybe 7% is the same. Maybe. However, there will be spoilers below.
Oh Boy. It was hard to get through. There as just so much wrong with it. Light’s a little bitch. Ryuk is barely there. Misa, aka Mia, is one of the most unlikable charterers I have seen in a long time. Granted, I didn’t care much for Misa Misa in the manga, but Mia took it from indifference to strong dislike. Mr. Turner (Light’s dad in this version. I can’t recall a first name) is such an unlikable man. Also, a plot point is that Light’s mom is dead and he doesn’t have a sister so you know right there that the whole Mellow arc is basically scrapped.
Now I know that this was an “adaptation” of the manga, and an Americanized version. There may have been a few too many creative liberties used because almost nothing followed the source material. It seemed more like a bad high school drama than Death Note. Hell, an important scene takes place at a homecoming dance. Light Yagami (Turner) at a homecoming dance. Talking about the Death Note in BROAD FUCKING DAYLIGHT.
After watching the film I made a comment to my friend that you could have taken out Ryuk from the film and it wouldn’t have changed the plot one bit. Except we would have been spared the scene of Light shrieking in fear and cowering under a desk. If you’ve made a Death Note adaptation that could easily remove the shinigami and nothing would be different, you know that you messed up right there.
Speaking of Ryuk, he is an odd presence in the film. He is no longer bound to the owner of the death note, instead it seems like he comes and goes while he pleases. Also, now he can only be seen by the owner of the death note, not just anyone who touches it. Thus Misa (Mia) can never see or talk to him throughout the film, which leads to some odd exchanges. Unlike the manga Ryuk, this one never goes in to the boredom speech. Remember when Light asks what he did to receive such a great power and Ryuk tells him it was just dumb luck that he picked it up, Ryuk just dropped it because he was bored? Yeah, there was none of that. There isn’t the scene of Ryuk telling Light that if he uses the death note that he won’t go to heaven or hell, and that Ryuk will be the one to kill him in the end. I always liked that scene in the manga, it gave Light’s choices more weight.  Ryuk honestly... doesn’t do much at all. He eats some apples, that’s pretty neat. Ummm... he has a nice line at the very end of the film... I think that’s it, asides from Light screaming or threatening him a few times.
Which really bothered me. Like, REALLY bothered me. This movie screws up shinigami death, along with a lot of the rules of the death note. Light tells Ryuk he’ll write his name down in the death note, and Ryuk just tells him “the most anyone ever got was two letters.” You can’t kill a shinigami by just writing their name down. There’s only a handful of beings that know how to kill one, two of them being Ryuk and Rem, who isn’t in the film at all. Yes, a shinigami can die if thery forget to put names down, but a way to kill one is by having a shinigami extend the life of a human they care for when that human’s life was supposed to be up. Rem’s friend does this for Misa Misa and then brings her his death note per his request. Not like any of that comes up in this film. Misa (Mia) never gets a death note, never becomes the second kira, and never gets there eyes. Because oh yeah, something key like the shinigami eyes and this girl being so in love she quarters her life span for a guy doesn’t make it in to this film.
A few other rules are off though, such as the way ownership works. The film makes it no longer Ryuk’s death note and has a scene about how it will pass from human to human (I don’t remember the specifics and I’m not about to watch it again) after a certain amount of days. I also do not think the owner loses their memory. There’s also this odd clause that if you write a name down but later destroy the page before it happens the death will be cancelled. But you can only do this once. This becomes a major plot point for the film when it isn’t at all in the manga (that I recall. Feel free to correct me on this.) Also, you apparently don’t need the right names because Light fucking writes down Watari as fucking Watari AND IT WORKS. WHAT. WHAT THE FUCK. WHY?
This is getting very long winded because I have a lot of rage, so I’m going to break this down by issues I had with each character and how off they were from their manga counterparts.
L - I’ll start of positive. For the most part, I liked L. The actor was much better than his rival, and made L seem human. His performance was a highlight. My main issue with L was the weird limo scene with some odd neon shades and asking Watari to sing him to sleep. It also upset me that he showed his actual face in a press junket. They focused more on his candy than how brilliant L actually is. Both he and Light don’t seem to be anywhere near as intelligent as they should be. In the film there is scenes of L coping with the loss of a friend that wasn’t in the manga since L and Watari die at about the same time. It was actually nice to see and made L seem a little more warm and human.
Watari - Good actor, gave a good performance. Odd casting choice in my opinion? Watari was one of the few Japanese actors in the cast when he’s playing the only non Japanese character. Watari was an old English gentleman. His name is Quillish Whammy for fuck’s sake. The actor gave the roll a good go, unfortunately it was just written poorly and most of his scenes take place at what looks like an old horror movie set.
Ryuk - I already touched on Ryuk previously. The VA did a fine job, he actually looked pretty decent. Sadly, his lines are all pretty worthless and for the most part he just makes Light nearly piss himself when he shows up.
Mr. Yagami (Mr. Turner) - This man is such a fuck. I disliked him so much. I really respected Yagami in the manga. He made tough decisions and was ready to do what he must to catch Kira. In fact, he quits the police force in near disgrace to fight Kira. That scene where he asks L to confine him as well because his son is confined in suspicion of being Kira? That scene where he is prepared to shoot his son and then himself? His father trading for the eyes but never using the death note on Mellow because he still wants to redeem him? Yagami being a good, developed character? Yeah, none of that. Instead we got tense conversations between him and Light because they don’t like each other. We get him choking L out at a family dinner because L says Light is Kira and Yagami abandoning L to protect his son at all costs. He even finds out his son is for a fact Kira and does nothing.
Misa Misa Amane (Mia) - Boy did I dislike Misa in this film. The first scene is her being a cheerleader but being too “over life” to do the cheers? God, she is such an unlikeable, uncharasmatic bitch in this film. That’s such a big change from bratty but cute and bubbly superstar model Misa Misa. The actress had very little charm in her delivery. A lot of her scenes were of her trying to convince Light to kill more. A lot of them. Most of her scenes in the later half of the movie. She seemed to be going for a Harley Quinn vibe, complete with a “normal people scare me” hung up in her locker. Misa steals pages from the death note (since she doesn’t have her own) and sneaks behind Light’s back to kill the FBI agents trailing them. She also writes Light’s name down in the death note, to try and gain ownership of it. It honestly seemed like Light and Misa’s personalities were switched from what they were in the manga. Maybe it was to try and make her a strong female character, but it fell flat. What I found was one of the major characteristics of manga Mia was that she loved Light. She would do anything for Light, such as trading for the eyes twice or giving up her death note and memories when Light asks her to. This Misa seems to care much less for Light and more about the death note and killing. It doesn’t make her endearing to the audience, I don’t know what they were trying to do with her.
Light Yagami (Light Turner) - Where to begin. The acting was quite weak. The boy can scream and cry and beg, that’s for sure. However, he’s playing Light. There should have been no need for any of that. If only. I think what upset me most was that this film didn’t make Light seem smart. He does people’s tests for them at school and... that’s it. That’s where you’re supposed to infer that he’s a brilliant top of his class, getting primed for great things. Film version Light isn’t liked at school where as manga Light isn’t super popular, but he has friends. He has girls ask him out a few times. There’s some dialogue between Ryuk and Light about how popular he is with the ladies. Whereas Film Light is pretty much alone except for deranged Misa. There’s also no secrecy about the death note. He fucking has it in his lap during gym class, just chilling there. Misa asks what it is and he shows her how to use it. Just like that. They talk about it and killing people constantly out in public or in classes. It’s so unrealistic. Light doesn’t try to hide anything. On his first time meeting L he confesses to being Kira, just like that. He confesses it to his dad later on as well. He has a few exchanges with Misa about how much he wants to give up the death note and run way together because he loves her. After all, there was a montage of them making out while writing down names, it’s true love. The climax of the movie has Light writing down “if Misa takes the note book from me she will die” and Light telling her “it’s the notebook or me.” She chooses the notebook and you see him sob “I never thought you would take it!! I thought you loved me!!” and it’s so very manga Misa Misa. Light acts like the worst parts of manga Misa. He’s always ready to just give up and cry under a desk. The only good thing he does in this film is kill Misa.
One of the brilliant things Death Notes does is it challenged the reader about what is truly good and evil. Reading it for the first time I remember siding with Light up until he makes the jump to killing anyone after him. Then I was with L and the SPK. But then L dies. The leader of the “good side” dies and Light has his iconic “I win” panel. The whole world turns to Kira in support, and the reader does once again. He won out, he must be the good force after all. Then Near and Mellow show up and once again the reader is unsure of who to support. Mellow uses such underhanded tactics and causes Mr. Yagami’s death so he can’t be good. Near was a little kid so by virtue he had to be good, although personally I dislike Near. L and Mellow grew on me, Near didn’t. At this point Kira can’t be attributed solely to Light as he has Mikami and Misa working for him, but Kira is the bad guy again to the reader. The reader is thrown back and forth with who they support as things develop, but the characters themselves still fully believe that they all are what is good. The side of justice. The SPK thinks that they are in the right by bringing Kira down. Kira thinks that he is right by serving out justice and acting as god. It makes the reader really, really question what they think about right and wrong.
This movie version stripped that away. I never got the feeling that Light believes he is actually doing the right thing. He constantly is questioning their actions and wanting to stop. The viewer never thinks Light is in the right for a second, the viewer never wants him to win. You never have to question is Kira’s justice right or wrong.
I think what sums it up better than I could is the difference between these two scenes (Please note I do not have my copy of the book on hand and I’m not rewatching the film so this is from memory. Words may not be exact but the overall sentence is). In the manga Light comments “They have chosen to call him Kira. I don’t particularly like it as it sounds similar to the American word for killer, which is not what Kira does, he is justice.” In the film, Light states “I chose the name Kira because it’s close to the Japanese word for killer.” There ya go. Light chooses (CHOOSES) the name Kira because it sounds like a nice edgy name that is a word for murderer, which Light views himself as.
Bottom line, don’t watch it unless you too want to be upset. L, Watari, sometimes Ryuk, and the plethora of awful snapchat stickers my friend and I got were the highlights.
2/10 - just not no chip scene, barely any scenes from the manga.

WELCOME BACK!
<3 I really missed you, and it’s so great to hear you had fun! (and omg yes so ready to see all those beautiful pics)
Yaaayyyy join me in MCU feels hell. And oooh, you have a ship for the fandom now! Like, Stoki’s still my favorite Steve pairing but Stony’s really cool too…you know I ship almost everything XD (also am I the only person who sorta hated almost everyone by the end of CW? Like, of course they’re still my favs and there are still some cinnamon rolls, but, come on. Why couldn’t you all just get along ;-;)
Speaking of Illumi, do you know that Hisoka/Illumi is an incredibly popular ship in the HxH fandom? Probably because both of them are so horrible that they have like 0 friends other than each other. Nobody else wants to hang out with these losers. (Chrollo tolerates Hisoka and the adults in Illumi’s family seem to spend enough time with him to give him orders, but that’s about it.) It’s a trash ship with two trashy people and tbh I love it XD
So continuing with the eye jokes, imagine. Hisoillu version of Helpless. Hisoillu version of Satisfied.
“Look into his eyes and the sky’s the limit”
“Intelligent eyes in a hunger-pang frame”
(I know you did thise one before but still) “But when I fantasize at night, it’s Illumi’s eyes”
just, I’m imagining animatics for this with the ‘camera’ zooming in on Illumi’s dead fish eyes every time the lyrics mention them. It’s hilarious and also mildly terrifying
(though I guess if we’re actually making a Hamilton AU Hisoka’s way more likely to do something like Say No To This…)
idk if I’d want to be a parent either really LOL. Kids are adorable but I don’t think I’ll ever be responsible enough to raise one…
If Ishida makes a plot twist or something about it being someone else pretending to be Hide I'm actually gonna get mad. Dude. Not only would that bring the Hide feels right back it’d just make absolutely no sense omg
(also you read the new chapter, right? So, let’s talk about Juuzou and that huge death flag)
I’ve heard of Soul Eater and considered reading it but it’s not really the kind of thing I’m into…artwork’s cute, though, and Death the Kid seems like an interesting guy so maybe someday XD
AGH I’M ACTUALLY SORTA JEALOUS BECAUSE WOW I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA HOW TO WATCH THAT LEGALLY HERE IN KOREA. (unless I ask my dad for help but he doesn’t like manga/anime at all, so…) But yes, I’m really happy Lizzy finally got her moment this time! Now anime-only fans can’t complain about her being a ‘shallow’ character so hopefully there’ll be less fighting over Lizzy in the Kuro fandom :D
FINALLY. Fellow Death Note fan <3333 Who’s your fav? Do you have any ships? Are you done with the anime??? :D (also do you know…you picked a really interesting time to join the DN fandom. The American live-action movie just came out and it sucks so freaking bad, like I haven’t even watched it yet and just from the reviews/clips, here’s what I got:
-They turned Misa into this Harley Quinn-type character. Only without any depth.
-Light/Misa is an actual canon ship, like, it’s not abusive or one-sided like it is in the anime/manga, it’s just…a thing. Light loves Misa. Misa loves Light. It’s like every cringey high school romance movie ever, only with more murder
-They freaking bent the Death Note rules just so Light could get away with all sorts of ridiculous stuff
-L cries, L rants, L is overly emotional
-Light tells L where he hid a page from his Death Note. Light doesn’t deny being Kira. Light shows Misa his Death Note when they like barely know each other and she’s still a complete stranger to him. Light acts like an idiot.
-Oh sure, he’s Kira, God of the New World, but he still cares about going to prom with his girlfriend and making stupid faces as they pose for pictures
-So much unnecessary gore. Heart attacks are Kira’s thing, Light isn’t that emotional about his kills, he doesn’t care as long as the 'villains’ are dead, so why???
-Apparently Rem does not exist. Sayu doesn't exist either. Light’s mom is dead (probably so he can angst over her)
-Light Turner. Light TURNER. Out of all the surnames they could have chosen…
-And now, for the most unforgivable sin:
How dare they not include the Potato Chip scene)
And then random things: JJ and Light have the same voice actor. Yurio and Mello (imo…have you met Mello yet?) could be long-lost twins.
Also:
I’ve fallen into Steven Universe hell and now I’m imagining so. Many. Gem AUs. Have you ever heard of SU?
(look:
1- don’t stress about the messages, and come on, I’d never get mad at you over something like this! You’re way too awesome.
2-  I don’t really know what to say 'cause I’m bad at comforting people, but ugh, it sucks to hear that school’s tiring you out! Queen Luna’s gonna get through this, though. I mean, you’re great at so many things and you’re freaking smart and…this is awkward but maybe you understand Evans Language by now? XD Guess I’m just trying to say that I’m sure you’ll do great, and if you ever need someone to talk to I’m (almost) always free *hugs*
3- Um. So, other than tumblr, I think the only way I can talk with you right now is if we email each other? The email address I used this time is my real one (or rather, my dad’s, since I don’t have one of my own yet…) so maybe we can talk about this more through email and find a better way to contact each other? If that’s ok with you can you send me a message there?)
P.S:
I’ve started college and have no idea what I’m doing
*slams head against keyboard* guess who managed to get sick. It’s only been a week since school started. Whatever, I’m still going to school, but I woke up breathing like a fish on land, bc asthma. Yay.
I’m definitely gonna upload the pics today!!
Okay, but one thing I’m wondering about, is How? Not in a malicious way or anything, I’m genuinely curious to why you ship Stoki (and where it began). Was it that redemption fic you told me about or did you ship it before?
Tbh, I didn’t hate the characters in CW, I hated the situation. Because there’s so so much pointless conflict that could easily be solved if everyone sat down and talked like normal people. But nooo we have to go around attacking each other. ((ALSO CAP’S LETTER TO TONY, I AM DEAD))
I’ve already learned (and experienced) that shipping is a very weird and unusual thing, so I’ll be honest and say I’m not even surprised that ship exists. At least it has some basis XD
I’m actually tempted to go through the lyrics of the whole musical and find every single eye line there is, only to replace it w Illumi’s eyes.
Not only zooming in on the eyes, the word itself is louder than the rest XD man if only I could draw…
Tbh I’d say I’m responsible enough (HA, that’s more or less a lie), but I’m honestly way too irritated with the little ones to be able to have one of my own. My cousin recently celebrated her 3rd bday and I was stuck looking after her during the party, bc all the adults were talking among themselves and I swear to god, I haven’t moved that much since I had to run 2km for PE. Where do they get their energy. Not to mention the adults thought it would be a good idea to leave me w her, because I’d already drunk 3 glasses of wine (i was bored and not allowed to do anything other than stare at emptiness or look after a 3yo). Turns out my tolerance isn’t that bad after all.
Lol let’s be honest, Ishida would totally do that. He knows the fandom would riot and that’s the whole point.
All the death flags. Tbh I don’t know how I feel about it. It’s obvious that either Touka or Juuzou are probably gonna die and I wan’t neither (If I have to choose tho, I’d rather Juuzou survives.) Also Naki. HNNNNNNGH
I think you’d actually like the manga? It takes a pretty dark turn compared to the anime and deals with lots of mental issues (the whole theme of the later volumes is Madness). Also, lots of death XD Well, the artwork changes drastically, so which one are you talking about XD

The girl in the coat (left first pic, middle 2nd) is the same person for reference. Death the Kid was one of my first anime crushes. The guy has OCD and is a total badass.
MUHAHAHAHA I think someone uploaded the Lizzy fight to youtube so you can probably find it there, but I am in love. The animation is beautiful, so that’s also a huge plus. All in all, it was handled really well.

So last I’ve watched is ep 25, aka the one WHERE L DIES. And i am not okay. I am nowhere near okay. Nope. Not at all.
Oh i’ve heard all about the adaptation. Tbh I find the whitewashing hilarious. Setting the movie in America removes so much of the series’s logic, so why? L being the way he is is probably my favourite mistake. They took the best character and ruined him completely.  POTATO CHIP SCENE NOOOO But my question is: did everything go just according to the keikaku?
Have fun w SU! I’ve watched it for a while, but gave up at some point. I might pick it up again if I have the time ^^ Word of advice, watch out for the fandom, they’re among the most toxic ones I’ve ever encountered. One time, they almost drove an artist to suicide because she didn’t draw Rose ‘thick enough’. So yeah.
Tumblr media
What did I do to deserve you as my friend TT^TT Thank you so so much, those words mean more than you can imagine.
Um. Looks like we’ll be staying here, because I never, ever check my mail, despite getting school assignments there, so yeah. If we used mail, you’d probably get a response every leap year.
How does the education system work in Korea? Like, at what age do you start going to which school?
Also, I’ve told you about Mystic Messenger? I think you’d like the newest update, because damn, it’s creeping me out. Also, it’s in Korean, so + ((My thoughts during the prologue of the new route: Nani the fuck))

My Review of the Netflix DeathNote Movie (Spoilers Included)
The Plot
Within the first 10 minutes of the movie, we’re presented with a bunch of cliches of high school life that we didn’t see with the original Death Note. The character, Light, who was a popular respected student at his school has been reduced to a school outcast who gets paid to do his schoolmates’ homework and gets assaulted for protecting his future love interest, a fellow classmate. When he’s assaulted, this love interest, Mia lies to the principal about how he was knocked unconscious and it seems as though Light doesn’t remember anything that occurred prior to this. When Light is approached by the shinigami (death god) Ryuk, in his classroom during detention, Ryuk destroys the room causing Light to freak out. In the anime, Light is both nervous and excited to meet Ryuk. Someone with Light’s mentality should feel entitled and even expect to meet such an entity, not cower and fear for his life before it.
We’re then introduced to Light’s family...er...dad. Apparently his mother was killed off to provide motivation for him to push him to become Kira and his sister...I guess she doesn’t exist anymore? This scene should have been a way to show that Light has a normal supportive family which adds to his privilege. I feel that this was lazy writing and that it sends a message that people with broken families are more likely to become murders and sociopaths when this isn’t the case. If the writers decided to keep his original family, it would create the message that sociopaths can and do come from normal families. There’s a scene where after Light kills his mother’s assailant, he tells his father about the perp’s death. His father reveals that his mother was against violence but believed that “Karma is a bitch.” Would have been nice if they had some scenes that showed Light and his family bonding before her murder to actually make us care more about it. We get it, it’s terrible but we don’t even know who his mother is.
There’s a montage of Light and Mia engaging in sexual activity as they kill more criminals and we see a cult of Kira rising around the city. We get a sense that they’re both taking more sexual pleasure from the murders than they are from each other. We’re then introduced to L as he is at the scene of one of Kira’s mass murders of two rival Japanese gangs and L and one of his constituents converse in Japanese. It’s also noted that Kira’s victims write out his name in Japanese on the walls around them before they die which begs the question...why didn’t they just keep this movie Japanese?! Oh wait, it’s just a way for Light to throw detectives off of his path and make them believe that Kira is Japanese and living in Japan because y’know, it can’t possibly be a Japanese American. Though L already figures this out. How? it’s not explained until later.
We have a scene where Mia prompts L to take more kill requests from Kira worshipper sites online but Light is reluctant. Who’s Kira here? Light or Mia? L reveals that Kira resides in Seattle because one of his victims death’s was only exclusively televised live in Seattle and that his name and face was revealed to Seattle residents only. L makes his address to the city to call Kira out and of course, Light can’t kill him. I thought that it was an obvious but decent decision to have L masked even he’s supposed to make his public address on TV. I like the scene where Light sneaks up behind his father out of the darkness to ask him about the investigation and the conversation that ensues--the one time where we see Light in the correct character. Why is this guy not in the whole film?!
Mia gives Ryuk the idea to kill all the agents who are investigating and stalking Light and even though he’s not supposed to, Ryuk goes through with it, having them walk off a building before the uncaring emotionless gazes of a woman and her child. Light’s father calls Kira out in a public address to which Light freaks out about being tested again and when he survives this, L becomes convinced without a doubt that Light is Kira. L confronts Light at a local eatery and accuses him to his face. Light freaks out when L pushes him too far--which is out of character. Light is also supposed to befriend L to keep his suspicions at bay and assist his father with the case but apparently, in this portrayal, Light isn’t smart enough to do this.
When Light forces Watari to find L’s real name for him, L also begins to break character and freak out. The real L wouldn’t even allow this to happen. L also randomly shows up to the Turner household (Light’s dad doesn’t show the proper amount of shock at this moment). Mia is sent away while L interrogates Light and his father about why Light sent Watari away. L and his team then search the house. In the anime, L bugs Light’s house instead to spy on him. This also creates a sense that L is becoming unstable which detracts from his position of power over the situation. Watari is killed before he can tell Light L’s real name. Meanwhile, Light is at a school dance, doing normal teenager stuff to keep the agents spying on him off his back and we find out that Mia caused Watari’s premature death when she removed the page with Watari’s name. Manipulative much? Again, who is the real Kira here? Light or Mia? I think that the writers were seriously confused about this. Misa would never do this unless instructed by Light.
We then have a cliche chase scene between Light, L and the cops who were ordered to protect Light. These two assholes knock people over as they’re running through a restaurant. As a worker comes into the alleyway to see what’s going on, L blabs to this random stranger about Light’s true identity and the worker who turns out to be a Kira cult member, clocks him with a 2x4. Very professional move L... The following scene is probably the most absurd nonsensical scene in this movie...Light and Mia trap themselves on a ferris wheel to escape the cops and they both admit to each other that they wrote each other’s names in the book as an act of revenge. The ferris wheel begins to collapse and they both plunge to their deaths, killing Mia. Light’s page’s magically and conveniently floats into a burning trash can and Light survives. A man later revealed to be a pedophile collects the Death Note and returns it to Light while he’s in the hospital. Light’s father then enters the room and accuses Light of being Kira because he found out that Light stole the newspaper clipping naming his mother’s killer from his room. We then learn (mostly through narration of course because lazy writing and this movie is too short) how Light killed Mia and saved himself as he explains it to his father. L loses his shit as he contemplates how Light slipped through his fingers.
This movie was way too short and succumbed to lazy writing and cliches. It’s bad enough that they fell into American movie studios’ mistake of white-washing the cast which was supposed to be primary Asian actors (yes, Asians can be American too!), but to deviate from the anime’s source material so much confuses Death Note fans like myself. Even from an objective standpoint and my struggle to not compare this movie to the original source material, it’s still doesn’t bring anything new to the slew of vigilante justice movies out there in terms of the plot or the characters. Where the original Death Note subverts the cliches of vengeance and casts the protagonist as a villain, this adaptation falls back into the cliche of the protagonist being an angry young adult who’s had family taken away from them...as if we don’t have tons of films with this subject matter already. The cinematography in this movie, while decent, in my opinion was not enough to save it from it’s lack of direction and poor decisions. If I had to give this movie a grade/rating, I’d give it a 1/5 and I’m being generous.
Light
Light isn’t portrayed as the sociopathic genius that he’s presented as in the anime, but clearly, just another angry teenager with a twisted sense of justice. He’s more reactionary than calculating and often makes decisions based on what’s going on at the time instead of being 2 steps ahead of his opponents like Light from the anime. If pushed far enough, he becomes frightened and paranoid whereas anime Light keeps his composure no matter what the situation is. He often mentions that part of his motivation to seek vengeance against the criminals in society is the murder of his mother but the film makes the mistake of failing to show us his relationship with his mother and why she was so important to him as well as her murder. A lot of films and TV shows tend to do this but the writers on this movie clearly don’t learn from other movie’s mistakes (especially about white-washing the cast) so I’m not surprised about this. I personally, don’t even think it was necessary to include this plot point to provide a motivation for Light to become Kira. Because another part of Light’s becoming Kira stems from his superiority complex and I believe that that the story would have been more gripping and psychological to show that this character feels so intensely entitled to assume his position as a god over the rest of his society.
Misa
Misa’s (Mia) character in this film is completely different from the anime. Other than the fact that she is no longer a celebrity, she seems to be more like Light’s character than Light himself. She’s vengeful, sociopathic and calculating (exactly how Light is supposed to be but isn’t) instead of cheerful and hyperactive like Misa, which I think detracts from the tone of the story. In the anime, Light and Misa have a Joker and Harley Quinn type of relationship and Misa’s naive and cheerful air despite being used by Light punctuates her unsettling devotion to him. If this portrayal of her was used in this movie, I think it could have also provided a much needed break from the serious tone of the movie and added some contrast between her character and the other characters in the movie. I can understand why they chose to change celebrity Misa Amane’s character to that of average high school student, Mia. Could be that people who aren’t familiar with the Death Note anime would find it unrealistic and strange that a celebrity would be attracted to an average person (even though this does happen in real life and it adds to Light’s power and Light is in fact, not an average person in the grand scheme of things). I think that having a famous celebrity become obsessed with Light/Kira would show the impact of his actions on society. He’d be shown to be so powerful that after protecting this beautiful famous person, she’d fall under his power. Another thing that I think that the writers missed with their relationship is that when Light realized how obsessed this girl was with him, he used it against her and used her as a tool to achieve his goals. He was never interested in having a sexual relationship with her, but only keeping her satisfied so that she would stay attached to him and comply with his commands.
L
Keith Stanfield’s portrayal of L was surprisingly decent/ok. Upon watching the trailer, I expected his performance to be laughably terrible but it was actually not the worst I was expecting. I thought that his his suspicions of Light were premature. In the anime, L didn’t suspect Light until they met and Light took an interest in his father’s investigation. Also, in the anime, Light became L’s friend to keep him guessing about his suspicion. In this movie, we get mounting suspicion, paranoia and a cliche chase scene like in a typical crime movie. Where L’s character fails is that he’s still missing a lot of L’s personality. It’s not enough just to make him an eccentric and intelligent man with a sugar addiction and strange quirks, L was supposed to be a childlike prodigy who’s patient and so meticulous and attentive that we watch him awake investigating every bit of footage and file on his desk while the rest of his team sleeps. Stanfield’s portrayal, while not the worst, was also not a good enough portrayal of L’s character. His physical appearance was nothing like L’s and I’m not just talking about the casting. But L is supposed to look Haggard, disheveled and he’s supposed to wear jeans and a white shirt to make him look as distinguishable from a law enforcement agent as possible. Stanfield’s character’s attire looks either ninja-esque or like something out of a NYC modeling catalogue. It’s just wrong and nothing like L at all.
Plot Holes
This film has a lot of plot holes. For example, in the anime, the rules for the usage of the Death Note are clearly explained. However, in this movie, only a few are. So when Ryuk takes matters into his own hands and kills a group of agents, this comes to Light’s dismay. In the Death Note anime (unless I am mistaken) a shinigami (god of death) is not allowed to kill without the Death Note owner’s usage. We never find out why Misa lied about Light being knocked out by that bully and it makes it seem as though this might have been some way to manipulate him. But Light is supposed to be the manipulator, right? We also never find out what Mia’s motivations are for wanting to murder people other than her being bullied by that one guy at their school that one day. Misa from the anime had a valid reason to but Mia didn’t. Big lack of character development there. Also, through everything that happened, where were Mia’s parents? Are they not involved in her life? Is that why she’s so mentally fucked?  Stray Observations:
-What happened to Light’s sister? Why does her character not exist?
-There’s a shot of L giving his public announcement to Kira and to the citizens of Seattle and there’s an American flag waving behind him. We get it...this is the American version of Death Note...don’t bludgeon the fans of the anime over the head with this fact. We’re insulted enough as it is that this movie even exists.
-When those police jumped off the building, there’s a woman and child who watched them walking into the building looking a bit curious. As the police are jumping, before they collide with the ground, their expressions hadn’t changed, especially the little girl’s. You would think that watching a bunch of people fall to their death would make these two background characters cry out in horror. Has Kira made people this accustomed to seeing death around them or do these two people just not have the capacity to show emotion?
-In the scene where L and Light are at the diner and L knocks all those objects off the table, none of the employees came over to see what was going on? Or were they told not to interfere with their discussion?
-At the end of the chase scene where L corners Light, a man enters the alleyway to see what’s happening and L tells the man that Light is Kira. If you’re a law enforcement agent and you’re investigating a mass murderer, why would you blab out that information to a random stranger especially when you know that said murderer has a cult following and this person is extremely dangerous? I hope that getting clocked in the head taught L a lesson about that.
-This movie should have taken place in NYC, in my opinion. Whenever L made an address to the city, it should have been on screens mounted on the surrounding buildings in the city like it is in the anime. They could have taken advantage of the screens in Time Square and used the fact that NYC is so diverse that whenever something happens here, it quickly spreads to the rest of the world. The main and surrounding casts would have also been more racially diverse. No offense to Seattle residents but this story needs to take place in a bigger, more famous city.

what L and Matsuda talk about
Author: pashmina-dhaage For: izaori Pairings/Characters: L Lawliet, Touta Matsuda, Light Yagami Rating/Warnings: None Prompt: Matsuda and L gossiping about celebrities Author’s notes: I couldn’t figure out a good reason for L and Matsuda to talk about celebrities apart from this so here you are. The celebrities mentioned are NOT from 2007 because a) I have no idea what was going on in 2007, so the timeline is not very uh, accurate and b) all of them are American, save one, because I am not aware of any Japanese ones.
Hope you like it!
L scowled at the computer screen. Twenty minutes ago he had asked Matsuda to make himself useful and bring him coffee. The man was nowhere to be found.
‘What’s bothering you?’ Light asked, glancing at him.
‘Why, Light-kun, is something bothering you? Is Kira’s plan not going well enough?’ L shot back. It was wholly unnecessary, but he was bored and it was no secret that he liked riling Light up.
Light, to his credit, refused to rise to the bait. ‘He probably fell asleep on his way back from the kitchen. No one’s getting enough sleep these days, thanks to you.’
L bristled. 'Thanks to Kira, you mean?’ he said pointedly. Light rolled his eyes. 'I’m going to the toilet and maybe I’ll find him snoozing in the corridor on the way.’
Matsuda was not, actually, snoozing in the corridor. He was sitting on the bathroom counter, deeply absorbed in his phone. So absorbed, in fact, that he didn’t realize who was peeping over his shoulder till L spoke in his ear. 'Matsuda, you idiot.’ Matsuda jumped so badly he almost dropped his phone. He looked around, terrified and found L’s face inches from his, his eyes boring into his face. 'Where’s my coffee, Matsuda?’ L enquired. At some level, he did enjoy terrifying the poor guy, but mostly, his incompetence was just annoying. 'I was on my way to the kitchen, I swear! But then Misa-Misa sent me this message-’ 'Is this pertinent to the Kira investigation?’ 'Well, no, but-’ 'Then I want you back in the room with my coffee in five minutes’, L turned to leave, before Matsuda spoke, sounding hesitant. 'It’s actually about Light.’ L stopped. 'What about Light-kun?’ Did Misa accidentally confessed something? 'Well’, Matsuda shoved his phone under L’s nose. L stared at the screen. 'Matsuda, what does Zac Efron have to do with Light Yagami?’ 'Zac Efron!’ Matsuda exclaimed. 'That’s his name! I forgot! Misa-Misa thinks Light looks like him, and I just don’t see the resemblance, honestly.’ L looked dumbstruck. For a moment, Matsuda wondered if L would hit him. Then L snatched the phone away from him. 'It’s the hair.’ 'Huh?’ Matsuda asked stupidly. 'It’s the hair, the bangs covering his forehead’, L muttered. 'Of course Misa-Misa thinks he looks like Zac Efron, he’s very…attractive. Light-kun, on the other hand, not so much’, L said, opening the browser on Matsuda’s phone like it was his own. 'You don’t think Light-kun is attractive?’ Matsuda looked surprised. 'I have seen better’, L said dismissively. 'Actually, Light-kun looks more like…this guy’, he said, pointing at the screen. Matsuda gasped in surprise. 'He so does! I love his songs…we should show him!’ L smirked. 'Yes, we should. And, oh I see, it’s not just Light, you compared the rest of the task force too…’ Matsuda sputtered. 'Oh well-um, we were just-, can I have my phone back L? Please?’ He asked, trying to snatch his phone from L’s hands who quickly turned, putting it out of his reach. 'Misa thinks Soichiro looks like Tom Selleck?’ L almost laughed out loud. Well, the moustache certainly was impressive. 'That was actually me- please don’t tell him, L!’ 'Hmm, we’ll see about that. And who does Misa-Misa think she looks like?’ 'Melanie Martinez. I see it.’ 'Interesting…Misa reminds me of Harley Quinn, personally’, L mumbled, biting his thumb. 'I said the same! It made her angry for some reason, maybe because I said it would make Light the Joker, ha!’ Matsuda laughed, but stopped, looking unsure as L looked at him steadily. 'Not bad, Matsuda’, L said, after a short pause. Matsuda glowed fom the praise. 'That smile does look very forced at times…’ 'Uh, I wouldn’t say that about Light…’ Matsuda looked hesitant again. 'Wait, who do you think Mogi resembles? Misa said Idris Elba but I am not convinced…’ 'Zachary Levi’, L piped in, showing him a picture. 'Huht’, Matsuda considered the picture. 'Misa Misa thinks this guy looks like me, but I just don’t see it.’ 'Goki Maeda?’ L held up the phone beside Matsuda’s face. 'Hmm…yep, he looks exactly like you. If they ever make a TV drama about the Kira investigation, he’d be the first choice to play you.’ 'Really?’ Matsuda looked offended. L rolled his eyes. 'So…Aizawa?’ 'Er…I don’t know, don’t tell him because I don’t know how he’d react but he totally looks like John Legend to me.’ L blinked. 'He…actually does….what have you done, Matsuda…’ Matsuda bounced on the counter excitedly. 'Right? Misa Misa also agrees!’ L nodded slowly in agreement. 'Hey, do you want to see who Misa Misa thinks Watari looks like?’ Matsuda exclaimed, taking his phone back. 'The butler from the Batman movies!’ L snatched the phone back. 'He does indeed’, L said in an expression resembling awe. 'Hmm, I’m honestly flattered Matsuda, that would make me -’ Before Matsuda could stop him ('Um, wait - L-’) , he swiped his finger across the screen. There was a long, uncomfortable silence, during which Matsuda prayed to every god imaginable. 'Matsuda’, L spoke quietly. 'Does Misa Misa think I look like Kermit the Frog?’ Matsuda didn’t know why he spoke up. 'That’s actually…not…Misa Misa…’ There was another long, even more uncomfortable silence, during which Matsuda wished he could glue his mouth shut. 'Get back to work, Matsuda. And your phone is confiscated.’ Matsuda groaned as L left the washroom, scowling.
'You look even more pissed than you did before’, Light commented lightly, as L came back to his seat. L said nothing as he crouched on the chair. Then he cleared his throat. 'Matsuda thinks you look like The Joker.’
[The Kermit comparison was actually Light’s doing. Poor L being made to think he is Batman when actually everyone just thinks he is a frog. Also Misa think Mogi is super hot, hence Idris Elba]

Chapter Seventeen:  A Dark World Without Light
Word Count:  3862
Chapter No. 17/37
Notes:  I got nothing.  However, there’s going to be a part that I imagined some of my fan fiction babes being if we were to ever meet in person.
Chapter Sixteen:  Ohayo, Misa Misa
“Alright, children,” I called out to Julian and Paul still in the house, “Into the minivan.”
“I don’t have a minivan,” Julian wrapped his arm around my waist, “And last I checked, you don’t either.”
“You know what I meant,” I rolled my eyes.  I was in love with this moron.  How will forever baffle me, but I was.
“Sorry,” Paul finally came out of the house, “I had to put her back in her case.”
 “Nerd.”
“Hey, Julian,” I spoke meekly from the passenger seat, “You think we could do these somewhere that’s not in town?  I’d hate for someone local to see this.”
“Ok,” he allowed, understanding my apprehension, “You want to do this in Kansas City instead?  The cityscapes would make for a better backdrop than Lenexa.”
“Oh, hell yeah!” Paul chirped, “Cityscapes always make a good backdrop.”
“And besides,” I added, “I’m pretty sure Death Note takes place in Tokyo.  The closest we’re going to get is Kansas City.”
“That’s perfect,” Julian approved, “Look at you being all smart.  Why do you have to be so smart?”
“Because I was cursed with a borderline genius IQ,” I giggled, “Yet, here I am, being Misa Amane.”
“Be nice to Misa,” he scolded, “She tries, dammit.  Light never loves her back.  He just uses her.”
“And look who’s being the Light to my Misa,” I worried, “Are you using me?”
“Not to wipe out the criminal underworld,” Julian promised, “Or at all, for that matter.  I swear to you on my own Death Note…Which I’m hoping you brought one.  Because I didn’t.”
“How are you supposed to be Kira without a Death Note?” I gasped, digging in my bag for a black, leather bound notebook, “Look at that!  Misa not being useless for a change.”
“Again,” he slapped my wrists, “Be nice to Misa.”
“Fine,” I pouted, “But when we get home tonight, I’m losing Misa completely.”
“Will you still tell me you don’t want to live in a world without Light?” he requested.
“How many times am I going to have to say that?” I wondered.
“Until I stop laughing about L making dad jokes,” Julian grinned.
“So, never,” I cringed, “They don’t make enough whiskey to get me through that.”
“L making dad jokes will never get old,” he laughed, then bit his tongue, “Much like L himself…”
“Julian!” my heart stopped, “That was dark!”
“I know,” he cringed, “I hated myself for even saying it.”
“L was my son!” I squealed, “He was my baby and he was killed!  L deserved better!  My little angel deserved the world!  How dare you?”
“I’m sorry!” Julian apologized all over himself, “I’d bring him back if I could, too!”
“We can trade L for Misa!” I snapped, “She can burn in Hell right next to Light.”
“She can’t!” he reminded me, “Once you write a name in the Death Note, you can’t go to Heaven or Hell!”
“Forgive me for not being religiously up to date on the rules of the Death Note!”
“For the love of God!” Paul cut in, “You two fight like a married couple!  We’re in a closed and confined space and I’m still here!”
Both Julian and I broke into hysterical laughter.  Paul made a good point.  Julian and I did fight like a married couple.  It blew my mind that our first couple would be Light and Misa over Edward and Winry, if we’re not counting Sebastian and Ciel.  That’s not necessarily a couple.  They’re a pair, don’t get me wrong, but not a couple. Maybe one day, though.  In fact, I knew it was going to happen one day.  It couldn’t not happen.  If we were doing Royai, we had to do Edwin, too.  At least once.
“Sorry, Paul,” I came down first, “It’s a part of the life.  We get a little heated about our favorite characters.”
“I see that,” he recovered from our shrill argument, “I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone call a character their child before.”
“And the thing is,” I went on, “L is older than me.  But I still love him like my son.  I want to love him and take care of him and give him all the love in the world.  Therefore, L is my son and no one can tell me otherwise.”
“You two were definitely meant for each other,” Paul gave us his blessing, “You’re both on that same level of weird.  Julian, if you two ever break up, I’m beating you with Punchline.”
“Punchline?” I looked to Julian for clarification.
“Harley Quinn’s hammer,” Julian explained, “Paul’s got a thing about superheroes, especially Harley. She’s a little nuts.”
“Excuse me?” Paul squeaked, sounding just as offended as I was with L, “Harley’s not a little nuts. She’s got an extreme case of Stockholm Syndrome!  Never would’ve guessed you went to college for psychology.”
“I know what extreme Stockholm Syndrome looks like,” Julian snapped, “I’ve seen it firsthand.”
All of a sudden, the car fell totally silent.  And only one other person in the car knew why.  I saw a vein rise in Julian’s hand as his grip around the steering wheel tightened a little.  Paul spoke in quick stutters, “Julian…I’m…”
“No,” Julian stopped him, “Not going to bring it up anymore.  Going to pretend this never happened.  We’re going to move on from it.  Agreed?”
“Agreed,” Paul and I harmonized.  No little kid should have to see what Julian’s seen.  As much as I thought L deserved a little better, Julian deserved a lot better.
“Alright then,” he nodded, “Now, someone say something before this turns into uncomfortable silence.”
“Julian,” I asked, “Would you ever be my stalker?”
“I don’t have to stalk you,” Julian assured me, “You’re my girlfriend.  What you do when I’m not around is your own business.  I trust you.  Why?”
“Well,” I went on, “What if other girls were hitting on you?”
“What are you talking about?” he gave me a look, “You know better.  Hell, you covered me in liquid latex, so other women wouldn’t hit on me.”
“Yeah, I did,” I smiled, putting my annoying Misa voice on again.  The things I do for you, Julian, “But I never said you could date other girls.”
“I thought you said it was ok if I used you,” he caught me, “A minute ago, you swore you’d do anything I asked.”
“But those are two totally different things,” I whined.
“Mimi,” Julian took my hand, “Have I told you today how much I love you?”
“No,” I dangled my feet over the edge of the seat, “But please.  Do go on.”
“I love you,” he smiled again, “I love you so much.”
“You’re welcome,” I squeezed him back.
“What the hell just happened?” Paul wondered, questioning our sanity.
“I had to do a quick Misa line,” I explained, “If I didn’t, Julian would’ve drove into oncoming traffic.”
“And I appreciate that,” Julian kissed my cheek as we pulled into Kansas City, “This is why I keep her.”
“Hold onto her and never let her go,” Paul demanded.
“We’ll see how this goes,” Julian shot me a wink, “Where to first?”
“I don’t know,” I thought it over, “Date with Light and Misa?”
“Misa got pissy about a piece of cake,” he reminded me.
“Cake makes you fat,” I quoted her, “I’m not eating any.”
“Actually,” Julian went from Light to L at the drop of a hat, “I found that you don’t gain any weight as long as you burn calories by using your brain.”
“Hold on there, tiger,” I called him out, “You’re Light, not L.”
“L did say he might end up falling for Misa,” he defended.
“Otakus are weird,” Paul attached a new lens on his camera.
“Yes, we are,” Julian wasn’t denying that.  And I couldn’t blame him.  I wouldn’t either.  The three of us finally pulled into one of the parks in Kansas City, “We start simple. We’ll get some Light and Misa holding hands in the park, being adorable action.  Good?”
“I’ve never done this before,” I confessed, “I have no clue what to do.”
“That’s why you’re lucky your boyfriend’s a seasoned pro,” he grabbed my car door for me, “The best way to do this is to completely drown yourself in Misa’s mindset.  All you need is a blinding obsession for me.  The more Misa you are in your head, the more it’ll show on camera.  I’ll be Light.  You be Misa.”
 “That simple?”
“It’s that simple,” Julian assured, sitting with me on the edge of a massive fountain, “Here.  How about I put it in terms you’ll understand better?  Think about it like you’re writing fan fiction.  How would Misa react to Light?  He’s brought her on a date to this beautiful park.  She’s so disgustingly in love with him.  Show me what that looks like.”
Of course, in true Misa fashion, I lit up like a Christmas tree.  She was so head over heels in love with Light.  Sort of like me with Julian.  Only difference was I wasn’t going to help him become the god of a new world order and kill anyone that got in his way.  For the next ten minutes, it was Light and me.  His Misa Misa.  And all while Paul’s shutter snapped away.  When we were all done, Julian finished us off with a soft, gentle kiss. One like Light would give Misa. Enough to keep her happy and keep up appearances.
“You’re a natural, Misa Misa,” he praised, “And you were worried about this.  You are a model after all.”
 “That’s right,” I chirped, “Last I checked!”
“There she is,” Julian beamed, cradling my cheek in the palm of his hand, “There’s my girl.”
“Shut up,” I came back to being me, blushing and all.  For it being my first time, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be.  Coming up with poses came naturally and thinking of it the way Julian told me to was a big help.
“Oh my god!” some random girl squealed in the middle of our shoot.  She couldn’t have been more than fourteen, “You’re back!  You’re coming back!”
“Excuse me?” I gave her a look.
“I’m sorry,” she settled down, “Are you Julian Cooke?”
“I am,” Julian confirmed, “Do I know you?”
“I’m a big fan!” the girl freaked, “And I figured since you were taking pictures that you were maybe coming back to the cosplay world?”
“That’s entirely up to her,” he nodded toward me, “If she says it’s ok, I’ll be coming back with her on my hip.  She’s never done this before, so you guys are going to have to go easy on her, ok?”
“That’s fine!” she nodded, damn near giving herself whiplash, “I don’t mean to gush, but you are my senpai.”
“That’s so sweet,” Julian awed, “Thank you.”
“Do you think I could get a picture?”
“Ordinarily, I’d say yes,” he shot her down, “But I’m kind of in the middle of a shoot with my girlfriend, so…”
“Of course,” the girl turned bright red, “I’m sorry.  I don’t mean to break this up.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Julian settled her, “What’s your name?”
 “Karina,” she chirped.
“Karina,” Julian repeated, nearly making her faint, “She and I have to be at the day job tomorrow morning, so we won’t be sticking around much longer, but I tell you what.  If it’s alright with you, Mimi, I’d like for us to come back next weekend.”
“Sure,” I allowed, “That’s fine with me.  We can come back.  It is for a fan.  I know what that’s like.”
“Do you read a lot of fan fiction, Karina?” Julian asked.
 “Tons!” Karina sang, “Why?”
 “Who’s your favorite?”
“My favorite fic writer?” she thought it over, “Easily, this girl named SenshiTenshi.  She writes some of the best fic on the internet.  And so often!  Although, we were supposed to get something this past week, but she never posted.”
“I bet I can make it up to you,” Julian smirked at me.
“Julian,” I glared through him, “What are you trying to get at?”
“Go on,” he nudged, “She did say the whole internet.”
“I’m so writing your name in my Death Note.”
 “You know you love me.”
“I don’t understand,” Karina was thoroughly confused, “How can you make up for SenshiTenshi not posting this week?”
“Because,” I sighed out, mentally preparing myself for what was about to happen, “I’m SenshiTenshi.”
“AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” she let out a shrill squeal that was soon squelched, “Wait.  How do I know you’re really SenshiTenshi?”
“I announced a Free! fic for this week, didn’t I?”
 “Yeah.”
“I can tell you what it’s about,” I explained, “It’s not done yet because I’ve been super busy this week between work and Julian, but I can give you spoilers.”
“No!” Karina looked mortified, “I want to experience it all at once!  Besides, that doesn’t prove anything.”
“Hold on,” I grabbed my phone from my bag, “What’s your Twitter handle?”
“HiImKarina,” she told me as I punched it into my search bar.  Sure enough, there she was.
I tapped the follow button, “There you go.  I just followed you from my verified account.  I’m pretty sure that should give some validation.”
Karina’s phone chimed shortly after with a notification.  And she went back to being all squealy, “You’re a god to me!  I love you!”
“I love you, too, sweetie,” I smiled.  This was cool!  I’ve never met one of my fans before!  I didn’t know there’d be one so close to me.
“I can’t believe my favorite cosplayer and my favorite fic writer are dating!” Karina couldn’t keep the smile off her face if she wanted to, “This is making my little fangirl heart go pitter patter.  This is better than watching the OTP become canon!”
“Whoa there,” I slowed her down, “That’s crazy talk.”
“Are you kidding?” she squeaked, “I’m sorry for going against you here because you’re my queen, but this is real.  Actually real.  This is more than just the stories and the characters we’ve come to know and love.  You guys mean so much to me.”
“And you mean the world to us,” Julian gave her a hug.  I thought she was going to melt in his arms, “Without you, there’d be no us.  I wouldn’t be getting back in the game if it weren’t for her. She’s a cosplayer, too.”
“I see that!” Karina freaked some more, “You make a really good Misa!”
“Thank you,” I awed, starting to fall in love with her a little.  I wasn’t sure who was more excited to meet who!
“Does this mean you two are going to cosplay together?” she hoped.
“That’s the plan,” Julian confirmed, “As hard as this is going to be, I want you to keep my comeback a secret.  You can say you met us today, but other than that, I need you to keep a tight lip. Can you do that for me, Karina?”
“Uh-huh,” Karina nodded slowly, unable to form sentences.
“Good,” he praised her, “Will we be seeing you next weekend?”
“Uh-huh,” she came back into her head, “What will it be next weekend, if this weekend was Death Note?”
“I don’t know,” Julian looked over at me, “We’d have to talk that over.”
“Is there anything you’d want to see us do?” I asked.
“Well,” Karina thought it over for a minute or two, “You guys make such an adorable Light and Misa together.  Maybe another one of my anime OTPs.”
 “Do tell,” I listened intently.
“Do you think…” she suggested, “Maybe you could do Haruhi Fujioka and-”
“Absolutely!” I agreed, knowing exactly how she was going to finish that.  Haruhi and Tamaki have been how Julian and I have been comparing our relationship almost since the beginning.  I’d be more than happy to do that.
“Awesome!” Karina smiled, “I’d love to see you and Julian as Haruhi and Hikaru.”
 “What?” Good feeling gone.
“Yeah,” she reiterated, “Haruhi and Hikaru are so obviously meant for each other.  Much more than her and Tamaki.  She got Hikaru to open up to more than just Kaoru.  And Hikaru’s more in love with her than Tamaki.  I don’t understand why people say yes to TamaHaru more than HikaHaru.”
I did my best to keep my rage under wraps.  Keep your cool, Mimi.  Don’t lose it on a fan.  Don’t go batshit on a fan.  She loves you.  You love her. That’s the way the fans work. They’re more to you than fans. They’re family.  They’re your babies and you love them.  You don’t want to punch them because their ship would make your ship sink.  In the end, the SS TamaHaru sailed.  People are entitled to their opinion, no matter how wrong you make think it is.
“Mimi?” Julian looked over at me, “You look like you’re about to burst a blood vessel.  You ok?”
“Ok,” I settled down, “We can do HikaHaru next weekend.  That’s fine.”
 “Yay!” Karina chimed.
“But until then,” Julian took over, “We have a Death Note shoot to finish.  I’m sure my photographer’s got other things to do today.”
“He really doesn’t,” Paul yelled over to us.
“Well, I’d like to spend some uninterrupted time with my waifu,” Julian clarified, “Before we have to get up at the ass crack of dawn to go to work.”
“My god,” Karina gasped, “What do you two do that makes you get up so early?”
“We work in a café where we live,” he told, “We have to be there by six.”
“In the morning?” she cringed, “I couldn’t do it.”
“It’s simple once you get used to it,” Julian brushed her off, “Now, if you’ll excuse us.”
“Yeah,” Karina let us go, “Go ahead.  It was awesome meeting you guys today!”
“You, too,” he shot her a wink, making her nose erupt, “See you next weekend.”
“Bye…” she swooned, leaving us alone.
“Sorry about that,” Julian apologized, “Not the first time a fan has come up to me during a shoot.”
“Probably not the last either,” Paul scoffed, fiddling with the settings on his camera.
“Now, you,” Julian sat me down, “Are you alright?  For a minute there, I thought you were going to punch her.”
“I’m a TamaHaru girl, Julian,” I explained, “We’re a TamaHaru.  As much as I adore Hikaru Hitachiin, I don’t want a Hikaru coming between us.”
“And there won’t be a Hikaru coming between us,” he held me against his chest, “I promise.  I don’t know any ginger twins.  How about you?”
 “No,” I giggled.
“There you go,” Julian chimed, “We’re good.  Now, can we go back to snapping some pictures of the two of us being someone we’re not?”
“Of course,” I laid my head in his chest, “I really don’t know what I’d do in a world without my Light.”
“Yes,” he agreed, “That would be dark.”
“Goddammit, Julian,” I laughed, “I knew that was going to happen.  I fucking knew it.”
“I couldn’t help myself,” he giggled a bit.
“You’re a dork,” I shook my head, “And I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Julian kissed the top of my head, “Paul, are you getting any of this?”
“I’m getting all of this,” Paul assured, capturing our adorable moments on film.
“Good,” he sat me on his lap, “Now, Mimi, I need the Death Note.  It’s been a while since I’ve done any solo shots.  I should probably update the portfolio a bit.”
“That’s fine,” I allowed, digging in my bag.
“But,” he stopped me, “I want you to kind of hide the Death Note.  Somewhere in the grass, so the pictures look more organic.”
“Ok,” I got up and looked around for somewhere to put the notebook.  Looks like someone was trying to recreate the moment where innocent high school student Light Yagami became the vicious serial killer Kira.  And it all started with him finding the shinigami’s Death Note.  It was really too bad we didn’t have someone to be Ryuk.  That would’ve made these pictures perfect, “Alright, Julian!  It’s hidden!”
Paul got down in the grass, getting his perfect angle while I sat off to the side and watched idly by. It was amazing to see Julian get so into it.  I’ve never seen him so focused.  In a split second, he had gone from Julian to Light and it almost gave me chills.  I wonder if he could go from Light to Kira the same way.  That would’ve been a more terrifying transformation.
Julian and I finished our shoot and left Paul in Kansas City.  It had gotten late and I could hardly keep my eyes open.  I loved being someone else for the day, but it was time for me to go back to being me, for Julian to go back to being Julian, and for us to go back to being us.  Taking off Misa’s knee high leather boots was the current highlight of my day.  Sure, they made me feel like a badass, but after wearing them all day, they were killing me.
“Julian,” I threw myself on the couch in my living room, “My feet hurt like hell.”
“My poor baby,” he threw his keys on the coffee table, “What did we learn?”
“Platform boots were created by Satan himself?” I assumed.
“Probably,” Julian giggled, taking my aching feet.  This angel. He started popping my toes for me.
“Mother of God,” I had half an orgasm, “Julian, I love you.”
“I love you, too,” he continued, “Is it because I’m popping your toes.”
“That’s exactly why I love you,” I moaned as he dug his thumbs into my heels, “And if you keep this up, you may be getting me pregnant tonight.”
“Maybe not pregnant,” Julian slowed me down, “I wouldn’t mind getting some tonight, but let’s wait on the babies, yeah?”
 “Ok,” I sighed out.
“So, this is happening?” he wondered, “You and I are having sex tonight?”
“If I don’t fall asleep first,” my eyelids grew heavier and heavier by the second as my entire body loosened up.
“If you’re that exhausted, baby,” Julian kept rubbing my feet, “I’m not having sex with you.  If we’re going to make the proverbial beast with two backs, I want you wide awake.  It’d be a bit of a wound to my pride if you were to clock out in the middle.”
“Heaven forbid if we have that,” I teased, sticking my toes in his face.  In retaliation, he bit them, “Ouch.  What the fuck?”
“That’s what you get for putting your foot in my face,” he fought, “Next time, I’m biting more.”
“Is that a promise?” I smirked.
 “You are delirious,” Julian chuckled.
And after that, I was out. It had been a long day.  It was almost eleven o'clock when we got home. I was done.  I had enough of the day and I was going to have to wake up bright and early in the morning.  But at least when I did, his arms would be around me.  His body keeping me warm.  And the world was a little less shitty.
