The words were said too quickly. They spilled from his lips with such speed that it would be obvious to anyone that it wasn't the... entire truth. The shake of his voice only made it ever more apparent.
"I—I mean..." he tried again, but knew before he finished that he had likely already failed to convince Tallils of it. "I'm... I'm good, just... thinking..."
What an understatement and how embarrassing besides, to tell that to the man that occupied his thoughts. Tallils was too pretty by far, left his palms sweaty and mouth dry. His face flushed with a bluish hue, eyebrows furrowed as he tried to find a better explanation, but the longer Tallils's gaze met his own, the harder it became to talk.
"I just.... It's... It's time to spend nice with you... I mean! Nice! To spend you with time! W-wait, that's not...! I mean...!"

Ah, she had noticed it, had she?
A gunblade though it may be that Thancred carries, it is not the blade part that makes him jump, but the distinct sound of a gun firing. A gun firing, not unlike the surprise he got on Mount Gulg.
It was not accurate to say that the sound terrified him. It did not. But the crystal of his back where the bullet had embedded remembered the pain vividly, the way it had shocked his very aether into practically paralyzing him. He'd never been shot before and never had there been a crack so deep in his crystal skin that he could predict what it would do to him.
The sound of a gunshot still brought that memory back to him, still had even the tower's aether rearing up, ready to fight back against an imaginary threat.
"I... I am well aware, I truly am," G'raha says, answering his dear friend while drumming his fingers along the staff in his hand, trying to calm the nervous energy stemming from a memory he could not keep from recalling with startling clarity. The memory of Stella staring up at him, calling his name as he spouts pretty words that mean nothing now, for she had managed to do what he had tried to do without her aid. And then the sound of a loud pop before the ground had rushed up to meet him.
"Unfortunately, where logic agrees, the parts of me that are anything but do not," he says, pausing to press over his heart with free hand. It was a feeling deeper than what his mind knew to be the truth, even with Stella here to remind him of the what he ought to already know.
What he would not give to offer the same reassurance, but did he have any right, after dragging her here had been all his doing? All she had suffered under his care had ultimately been his fault.
He had long lost the right to reassurance, to even call her a friend, he thinks. And yet he still calls her as such when he speaks: "But... Thank you for saying so, my friend..."

The First Mate
You are immeasurably loyal, even when everyone tells you that you should give up and give in -- that you have done more than enough. You know people’s needs almost instantaneously, leading and looking after others whilst shying away from the spotlight; you love with your hands more than you can with your words.
You have loved your captain since they had both eyes and both hands, when the twinkle in their eye was unmatched even by the northern star. Perhaps you could do to set boundaries between you and what your captain asks of you–first mates are the first to embitter. You don’t remember a time you have not been on the ship, giving yourself over more than you’ve got as you follow your captain into every endeavor and battle.

leon's handwriting is most easily described as smudged, but mostly legible, highly reminiscent of a scrawled warning jotted down haphazardly in a thriller movie setting, urging caution of whatever danger lies up ahead, ominously trailing off at the end and taking much too long to comfortably decipher.
leon's lettering is often narrow, as leon doesn't tend to move his wrist often when writing, preferring to move his entire hand instead, which can sometimes smear the ink. leon's wrists have become stiffer over time and prone to soreness, after years of absorbing impact from the kickback of various types of guns, this has led to leon and repetitive strain injury becoming very well acquainted. leon is also prone to trigger finger, where the repetitive squeeze-and-release of the gun trigger has led to inflammation around the joint, and can sometimes result in the trigger finger becoming locked in a bent position, and joint popping, which makes writing dexterously difficult. leon prefers to type up his reports using a laptop (or in his younger days working for the anti-umbrella pursuit and investigation team, typewriter) when he can, but while on the field & often in peril, keeping a journal record of events and experiences is done primarily in handwriting alone, as lugging around a laptop or typewriter would only slow him down.
despite leon's handwriting being hurriedly slanted, his letters often sit apart if only barely, shy of eachother, and when they do meet, his letters are often overlapping rather than being tied together. psychologically, if we want to read into it for no reason, that can reflect leon being noncommittal, emotionally unavailable in relationships and prone to one-night stands or relationships that burn out hot and fast, but realistically it's mostly because he's writing too fast to be bothered with even spacing. ink tends to bleed at the edge of each stroke, where leon's pen lingers for a half-second longer. leon's pressure and rigidity when writing is more so like carving the words into the paper, and ink saturation can often lead to the nib tearing holes, and quiet cursing accompanying from leon. you could probably read leon's writing clearly from the back of the paper, from how deeply his handwriting scores in. narrow lettering often means his sentencesarecrampedacrosseachline, and he doesn't hesitate to scrawl into the margins, taking advantage of every centimeter of paper he has access to - leon was excellent at keeping pace while taking detailed notes in the police academy.

The Stowaway
you are guarded and sharp; you’ve stolen onto the ship, giving up your doomed life on land. society has hurt you too much, you do not want to return to its hypocrisies and expectations when the sea offers freedom. you keep many secrets, almost too many, and you do not immediately trust the crew of the ship, preferring to keep your head down and to observe quietly from the crow’s nest as the rest of the crew share dinner. sooner or later, though, when an enemy holds a pistol to your head or a storm nearly throws you overboard, a crewmate will fight tooth and nail to save you, and you will realise that you would unquestioningly do the same for them.

Get to know the Mun
1. Are you named after anyone? Yes, actually! Alana, one of Ariel's sisters in the Little Mermaid. :) Obviously my parents added in an extra N. This extra N has led to so much confusion; at this point if you have roughly the right syllables, I'll answer to it.
2. When was the last time you cried? Literally yesterday. It wasn't FFXIV music for once but it was definitely a song and my brain imagined a story/music video style thing for it and I cried bc I am as sensitive as Meiko. I remember sitting there afterward like why the fuck am I doing this lmao
3. Do you have kids? Only Butternut at the moment, but I have always wanted to be a Mom. Sadly, I'm demisexual, and a lot of people in general don't really...like, get that or what it means. I do plan to hop back into the hell that is dating apps after the Vegas FFXIV Fanfest, though.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? I am definitely hella cynical, but I don't know if I use sarcasm excessively. I feel like a little too much sarcasm is a wee bit cringe.
5. What sports do you play/have you played? Literally zero outside of what gym required of us in school. I do enjoy swimming, though -- not that I've had much of a chance since moving away from Florida!
6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people? Lately I've been making extra observations around whether or not people take an interest in me. Do they keep the conversation all about them? Do they remember facts about me? It's a little disheartening when you realize how rare it is.
7. Scary movies or happy endings? Happy endings, scary movies give me so much anxiety; that being said, I do love a good true crime story because I am basic.
8. Any special talents? I don't know about special but I will state that I am highly competent in every job I've ever taken in my career; although this has led to burnout in past roles, I've learned to balance it and can recognize that my work ethic is pretty rare!
9. Where were you born? I was born in NYC, raised in Florida, where I lived until I was 24. Moved to Washington state and have been here ever since!
10. What are your hobbies? Writing, Gaming, Various Creative Projects with @aethericsea, and being a full-time BTS Army fan
11. Do you have any pets? Her name is Nikita Katrice Seraphina Butternut. She has a facebook.
12. How tall are you? 5'3", 5'4" if you measure me in the morning before my spine has compressed
13. Fave subject in school? English/Language Arts, mainly becaust it was easy
14. Dream job? I am very happy in my current job; I would have liked to been involved in the gaming industry more directly, but as an analyst for the industry I'm kind of 'yikes' about it now. So I can accept that that ship has sailed and I am content where I am.

Step Back
usually, you're able to bottle up your emotions and ignore the frustrations. but, after weeks of shoving everything down, your body needs a release, and i pity the poor person who managed to piss you off. it's screaming crying, shouting, kicking lockers, whatever you can do to get it out of your system. it's a whole jean grey moment, fire and fury blasting out of you.
Men, raise the drawbridge
when you're angry, all your defenses go up. the unfortunate person or thing that managed to piss you off is suddenly talking to a wall. On the inside, you're screaming and crying and cussing them out, but somehow you can't express it. you're blank. emotionless. to anyone's knowledge, you could be zoning out of a lecture. because of this, it's hard to express how you're feeling when the person asks for your thoughts. you've choked your feelings down, and they won't come back up.
