Forgeline customers dominated the 2024 OPTIMA Search for the Ultimate Street Car competition at Sebring International Raceway, this past weekend, where they claimed all three spots on the overall podium and won six of the eight classes. This effort was led by Chris Smith, who took both the overall and GTV class wins, in his 1970 Chevrolet Camaro known as "Angry Smurf"!
Chris finished near the top overall in each of the four competition segments, including second place overall in the Lingenfelter Performance Design and Engineering Competition, first place overall in the Peak Performance  Acceleration/Braking Challenge, fifth place overall in Falken Tire Hot Lap Challenge, and seventh place overall in the Autocross. His performance throughout the weekend competition placed him at the top of the GTV Class (in which his Camaro competes), and the sum of his performances earned him 489 points and the overall win out of all 53 competitors.
Chris’s “Angry Smurf” pro-touring 1970 Chevrolet Camaro was built as an in-house project at Smitty’s Custom Automotive and painted in GM’s PPG Rapid Blue. It’s powered by a 720HP Holley fuel-injected 427ci Kurt Urban LS7 mated to a Pfitzner Performance Gearboxes six-speed sequential transmission and rides on Speedtech Performance suspension, Motion Control Suspension 4-way adjustable remote-reservoir coilovers, Wilwood disc brakes, 315/30ZR18 & 335/30ZR18 BFGoodrich g-Force Rival S tires, and 18×11/18×12 Forgeline forged three piece AL305 wheels finished with Satin Race Gold centers & Black Pearl outers!
In addition to Chris’s overall and GTV class victories, other top finishers included GT class winner and second place overall finisher Dave Schotz in his 2022 Chevrolet Camaro on Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GS1R wheels, GTL class champion and third place overall finisher Ryan Mathews in his 2002 Chevrolet Corvette on Forgeline forged three piece GF3 Open Lug wheels, GTT class champion Stephen Dorrick in his Nissan Frontier on Forgeline forged three piece FF3-Truck wheels, GTR class champion Patrick Lever in his Superformance GT40 on Forgeline forged three piece AL308 wheels, and Outlaw class champion Jamie Elliott in his 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 on Forgeline forged three piece GA3R wheels.
At least two other Forgeline drivers also earned their invitations to the 2024 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational, including Aimel Baron who finished third in the GTS class in his 2019 Chevrolet Corvette on Forgeline one piece forged monoblock ZO1R wheels and Mike Owen who earned the Summit Racing Spirit of the Event award in his 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle on Forgeline forged three piece AL305 wheels. Congrats to all of the new 2024 OUSCI invitees!

OPTIMA BRINGS EXPANDED HIGH-PERFORMANCE ACTION TO SEMA
Tumblr media
DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2022) – The OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) is bringing live, action-packed excitement to the SEMA Show, growing its activation with three of its five segments unfolding during the 55th annual trade show, Nov. 1-4, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nev. The competition’s Peak Performance Challenge (a timed segment) and the Lingenfelter Design & Engineering Challenge took place at the SEMA Show for the first time in 2021. Those two segments will return to this year’s SEMA Show, while the Autocross portion of the competition makes its debut at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Bronze Lot during the exclusive trade-only event. The remainder of the OUSCI continues Nov. 5-7, 2022, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “As an expanded feature at the 2022 SEMA Show, OPTIMA’s Ultimate Street Car Invitational is an iconic competition that will showcase the aftermarket’s potential,” said Tom Gattuso, SEMA vice president of events. “With modifications that enhance the performance of the vehicles, the competing cars and trucks embody what the SEMA Show is all about. It’s going to be exciting to watch the action up close and in person.” With six regional qualifying events spanning more than eight months, the OUSCI includes the country’s top road-worthy modified vehicles. Top performers from the regional events receive coveted invitations to compete in the final competition, with a handful of spots reserved for vehicles selected at the SEMA Show. Since 2008 when the OUSCI debuted, an additional highlight for Showgoers has been a display of all 100 competition vehicles at the SEMA Show in an area known as Optima Alley. At the end of the Show, the vehicles parade out of the convention center and make their way to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where they compete in a five-part competition. Last year two of the segments kicked off the competition and took place at the SEMA Show. This year, the SEMA Show will host three of the five segments. “It’s rare to be able to witness so many vehicles push the limits of performance and agility,” said Gattuso. “To see the competition unfold live is exhilarating and inspiring.” The Bronze Lot is located in the outdoor area south of South Hall. For details about the 2022 SEMA Show, including a floor plan showing where the Bronze Lot is or to apply for credentials to attend the SEMA Show, visit www.semashow.com Read the full article

I'm down in Kentucky with the crew from #PennzoilPerformance (attending #OUSCI #AD) and last night I spotted this Camaro at the National Corvette Museum. It's completely custom, and definitely took the #HotWheels theme to a new level. Just look at the plate. #Mattel #cars #kentucky #camaro #chevy #chevrolet
