There was this time one of my shitty 2022 Dialtown drawings from my old art account got 500 notes and at first I was really grateful for the attention but then it started to piss me off so bad like,, there was 70% less effort put into it than my other art and yet it reached 3 figures. How. Why. It was Bad and Low effort w h y.
Anyways I had to delete it because every time I see a notification about it getting another note it filled me with unbridled rage and confusion.
I kinda regret doing it ngl cuz like, despite the grief it caused me I miss the adrenaline of pure hate. That intense emotion I rarely feel most of the time. Its negative, and by all means I should frown when I remember the experience, but I miss the feeling.
Oh wait maybe this is why people miss their shitty exes I kinda get it now.

Because Peter can lean toward being clingy, you'd have to remind him that he needs to put effort into the other relationships in his life as well from time to time.
Although he wouldn't be great at remembering dates (phone notifications are his savior) he'd remember a lot of miscellaneous things about you; your drink order at the coffee/tea/boba shop, the show you'd been talking about watching, etc.
Peter would literally drop everything if you needed him. He can usually tell when you need help (albeit with a slight delay) but if you ask him, he'll be right there.
He'd definitely have you as his phone background. Or a picture of you two together. More than likely, it'd be you alone, though.

Lucifer's name
A lot have wondered how did the vampire came to be called like that. Few knows the true meaning behind it. When he fully accepted his new and complicated gender identity, Luci wanted a new name that would fit his own view of his gender and who he was now. As a librarian, his job was to bring knowledge to people, and this played a huge part in the choice, as knowledge is Lumière and Lucifer means Light Bringer. Plus the name is one of an angel, whose gender transcend human vision, and is also masculine. It's only a bonus that it's shorten version reminds him of a Dracula character.
There are few who knows the old name she used as a human, but it is said to have greek origins.

Finally finished babey!!! Zone Runners is a ttrpg where you and your friends can run around the zones causing mayhem and helping (or maiming) all your favorite characters from the Danger Days world. Amazing discoveries that I have made so far during my time in college:
If you review the notes after class, you will start piecing together the knowledge that you didn’t quite understand and find that one very specific equation that wasn’t on the equation sheet and fucked you over on the last quiz
Some professors actually aren’t horrible unapproachable monsters and you can like, ask them to clarify or review a concept that isn’t making sense to you without getting in trouble
You can just sit in office hours and do your work and will pick up so much information even if you didn’t know what questions to ask at the time and it will help you on finishing the work you’re doing
If self-imposed deadlines don’t work because you don’t have to actively like, submit something, Google Classroom is free and you can make a class and then include all of your assignments and require a submission and it will automatically email you reminders that you need to do the assignments that are “recommended but don’t need to be submitted” because I will not do assignments unless something reminds me continually that I have said assignment and I have to actually submit it somewhere
Take notes on the lecture slides and record the lecture audio. Writing out all of the notes takes so much energy and you lose so much of the context of things and just, no
In a worst case scenario, you can review for an exam like a day or two before by going through all of your notes (and recorded lectures if you took my advice a/o got that as an accommodation) and then you go through and pull out the most important information and look over any practice problems you were given or any practice quizzes you have to try and figure out what types of questions are likely to be on it. The Bubble 2022
This movie is very long and the novelty of it wore off very, very quickly.
There are funny jokes and scenes, but few and far between. Showing the "Cliff Beasts" final cut wasn't funny after the first time. It's funnier if we just see them acting on green screen then for one scene we see the finished product (Spoiler: the genitals scene) to highlight just how terrible the movie is.
This feels like Judd Apatow wanted a way to force us to accept his other kid as a star. It did not work. Someone famous, who thinks they're normal, wrote it and it's why the movie just doesn't function. They are trying to make fun of the thing but realized the people they are satirizing are their friends.
It could work. It should work. It's got the parts that work and they do, but rarely. If the movie took its premise more seriously and had the ridiculousness happening around the seriousness you've got something. Think Tropic Thunder. It could've worked as a behind the scenes documentary, especially because they make a point to highlight the behind the scenes camera man.
This could've played with language in such an interesting way. "In these unprecedented times" became a meaningless mosh of words after hearing it so often. It could've been such a great joke. A bunch of clueless, spoiled, actors who think their crappy movie is going to be the thing that unites us or whatever saying that in earnest to camera. It would be so funny. Them lamenting about how hard this has been then cut to a crew member who can't go home and is making significantly less and is worried about where the next paycheck is coming from because Hollywood is essentially shut down.
Netflix did this and very well with Death to 2020.
Wishes and Musings
Karen Gillan's character being obsessed with her shitty boyfriend was never compelling. It felt like she never liked him.
The director trying to use this as his comeback or a new director trying to prove themself or a nepotism kid using daddy's money and connections.
The "love story" was pointless. It could've been funny if it was a tactic to get him to behave. He's an actor with a history of not showing up or walking off, so they use her to keep him in line but they actually start liking one another.
What the hell was that bullshit at the end with them fighting for their rights. See that's the problem with this movie being a vanity project. No regular human is going to give a shit about these rich asshole being mistreated. Which they were and that's bad, but it felt shoehorned.
The tik tok star could've felt more out of place, and isolated by the big name actors. But imagine moments of her phone endlessly buzzing with notifications and the stars panicking because they aren't getting the same social media interactions. Dichotomy of fame and internet fame.
Her trying to teach them how to use tik tok but then thinking it's beneath them. Also this would've been a great role for Diana Silvers. Instead we're stuck with Apatows daughter and she's not bringing it.
Keegan Michael Keys character trying to start a cult is funny and the realization moment is great but it's buried because we don't see his character to often.
Dustin trying to imbue more meaning into the movie while the writer a normal person is telling him no one cares about that. They just want to see flying t-rex's get shot in the genitals was great
They could've had a side plot of the crew trying to sabotage production to keep extending filming for more money.
Guz Khan was great. I wish he would've come back.
Needed more of the actors and director being sad about being separated from their families for so long, but also being happy because quarantining together in their big mansions was too much together time.
This movie is 2 fucking hours long. WHY!!! They could've cut this to a tight 70-80 minutes and it would've maybe been funny.

YouTube’s Music Scamming and Copyright Problem

Jose Teran, the man who is known as enacting the longest music royalty scam in history, was recently sentenced to 70 months in prison [1]. Teran’s scam occurred for over five years, and it ultimately routed $23 million in royalty proceeds away from predominantly Latin artists and into the bank accounts of Teran and his co-conspirators. The sentencing memo stated that Teran is considered to be at a high risk of re-offending because he “obtained more than $6 million in personal profits and continued pocketing $190,000 in stolen royalties- which he hid from officials- even after he was indicted for fraud”. A restitution hearing was requested to determine how much should be paid to the victims. The government is still trying to contact the victims by translating the restitution notification into Spanish since many of them live outside of the United States [1].
Earlier this year, Teran also pleaded guilty to conspiracy, money laundering, and wire fraud and admitted that he worked with Webster Batista Fernandez to “steal royalty payments for approximately 50,000 song titles” [1]. Fernandez took a plea agreement in April 2022 and provided key insights into the operation. It was revealed that Teran and Fernandez created a record label known as “MediaMuv” to seize unearned royalties by claiming songs on YouTube beginning in 2017. They did this by searching YouTube for “recorded songs that were not actively monetized”. Once they recognized the songs as vulnerable, MediaMuv manipulated YouTube’s system that pays royalties to music rights holders. Many artists who don’t have access to tools that help rights holders identify and collect royalties on their songs hire third parties to monitor their copyrights and royalty payments. MediaMuv took advantage of this and partnered with a company called AdRev to “cultivate a layered façade” and give their stolen 50,000 songs a “greater veneer of credibility”. Because many artists don’t hire a third party to monitor copyrights and royalties, Teran and his team were able to get away with the scam for so long [1].
Many YouTube scammers employ the same strategies MediaMuv used, by claiming a small percentage of a song’s royalties, hoping to go undetected by targeting songs that have multiple rights holders [1]. However, MediaMuv often claimed 100% of a song’s royalties for master recordings or publishing. When copyright disputes initially arose, Teran “refused to back down or acknowledge that MediaMuv wasn’t the rightful owner”. Even after AdRev expressed confidence in MediaMuv, the IRS launched an investigation into MediaMuv in 2019. The multiple bank accounts that MediaMuv owned were a major factor in starting this investigation, especially when the accounts were registered under false names in order to transfer payments to AdRev. After the court proceedings were completed and Teran was sentenced, YouTube and AdRev have still not been charged in relation to the scam. It is also unclear if much is being done to stop future YouTube scammers from using the same methods Teran used [1].
Another similar fraudulent scheme came to light in March of this year, when popular YouTuber known as “Omi in a Hellcat” was sentenced to over five years in federal prison for running one of the most successful television piracy schemes ever prosecuted by state officials [2]. Bill Omar Carrasquillo, the man behind the YouTube channel, pleaded guilty to copyright infringement and tax fraud last year. On his channel, Carrasquillo shared highly produced videos where he showed off luxury goods, like his jewelry, cars, and homes. The channel attracted more than 1 million views and had 800,000 subscribers. After his indictment in September 2021, Carrasquillo’s fraudulent multi-million-dollar business known as Gears TV or Gears Reloaded came to light [2].
Carrasquillo and two other defendants opened dozens of accounts with cable companies, hacked into the encrypted cable boxes, and then streamed or resold the copyrighted content to their subscribers for a fee [2]. This method, known as Illegal Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), has grown into a billion dollar a year industry in the United States. Carrasquillo’s TV piracy scheme attracted more than 100,000 subscribers and he received over $34 million before it was shut down by federal authorities. Carrasquillo was forced to forfeit over $30 million in assets and part of that is to be paid to the cable companies he pirated. Carrasquillo also failed to report the money his business made to the IRS, so he owes an additional $5.7 million in back taxes. His luxury cars and more than four dozen properties were also seized. In a video posted to his channel, Carrasquillo said, “I’m only guilty of making money. The FBI seized everything from me. I ain’t guilty of nothing else” [2].
Even though Google has some of the world’s most advanced technology, it’s surprising to see that YouTube is so susceptible to copyright scammers [3]. For many years, scammers have monetized videos they do not own, with rights owners oblivious to the fact that someone has pirated their content. YouTube’s copyright claim system has turned from an enforcement mechanism for creators into a tool for scams and extortion. The system is a way for the rights owner to tell YouTube that their work has been pirated by someone else, but oftentimes anyone can claim to own audio or visual clips with little to no verification from YouTube. When filing a copyright claim, the alleged rights owner fills in basic info and YouTube takes care of the rest, often removing the infringed work altogether. By removing the infringed work, YouTube protects itself from millions of potential lawsuits. The alleged offending party has a chance to answer or provide proper licensing paperwork. YouTube may then allow the alleged owner to remove the work or take the monetizing dollars and keep the video up [3].
If held responsible, those with too many copyright claims or strikes can be suspended or banned from uploading new videos and monetizing those videos on YouTube [3]. But many people who file copyright claims on many channels at once operate knowing that only a certain percentage of channels will not respond or will respond improperly, guaranteeing a scammer will win the claim. Those who make this a part of their living frequently own dozens of YouTube accounts to prevent suspicions [3]. Even though YouTube’s Copyright Management Tools were created to give rights holders control of their copyrighted content, there are too many ways for scammers to slip through the cracks and abuse the system [4].
It is important for creators on YouTube to know what to do if they are faced with a copyright claim to ensure that they are not being taken advantage of. The first step is to find out if you have improperly used a copyrighted work [3]. The more paperwork you keep on the music or video clips you use, the better. Properly licensing materials and clearing copyrights is integral to operating any YouTube channel. The second step is to investigate the claim for scammers. If you are certain that you are legally using music or a video clip, you should investigate the claimant. Key things to look out for that indicate a scam include asking these questions: Does their channel have any videos? Are they using a nondescript free email? Is the claimant known for filing aggressive, overreaching, and improper claims? Knowing the warning signs of a fraudulent copyright claim can make or break the success of a potential scammer [3].
If you identify an extortion scheme, it should be reported to authorities since it is a criminal offense [3]. Even if you lose a copyright claim, it does not mean that you have actually infringed on a copyright. The main worry is risking losing ad money or your account. At this point, creators often reach out directly to the claimant to talk about the situation and provide documentation. Reputable claimants are more receptive to fixing possible copyright claim mistakes. If that does not work, you will want to discuss legal options with an intellectual property attorney. At this point, options include filing an improper takedown notice or you can prove that the claimant was not the copyright owner. With a positive finding, you can have copyright strikes reversed on YouTube and have your account privileges restored [3].

If there is no way and I have to kill myself, I am keeping a record of the events that led to this.
I used to have an account on Facebook. At that time, I was young and an idealist. I used to write about what I read passionately. In 2021, some unknown people gangged up on me on Facebook. 60 to 70 people used to constantly write obscene things on my Facebook posts. They kept doing this even when I uploaded screenshots of those comments and put them up as status. Nobody reacted to the horrible obscene things that were written there. Not a single person reported those comments. My Facebook profile had only my relatives and teachers.Being young and believing that one could debate people as we did in university space, I tried to respond like I would respond to an academic debate. I realised quickly that those people did not come to debate with me. Rather they were advertising their masculinity by writing dirty things underneath all my posts. They kept doing this and no matter how many times I uploaded a screenshot of these horrible obscene things, it did not faze them. The bullied me continuously. They did this with the confidence that nothing could harm them.These people were not in my friend list. I don't know how they were keeping track of my comments or posts. I did not know any of these people personally.
Around the end of February to March two of my professors told me to shut down my Facebook because those comments were deleterious to my reputation if I ever hoped to be a professor somewhere. It would not harm those Anti social elements who are writing those comments but rather it would harm me to whom those comments were directed. The objectified my body my sexuality and many people including my teachers and relatives were witness to this along with friends and people who are not so much my well wishers. The more I tried to speak about the matter like a silly person, the more the responded with obscenities. They spoke in a dirty manner about my body, about my character around the range of calling me a prostitute, and more sexually directed comments in an explicit manner. My professor from Jadavpur was concerned about my mental health also because I always was feeling compelled to respond or upload screenshots and it was harming me academically also. I could not study because I was getting notifications for these dirty comments day in and day out. I deleted my Facebook account around March the next year in 2022.
Around September that year long after I had deleted my Facebook account and I was living in the IIT Kharagpur hostel, a notice came to my residential address handed to my aged parents less than 24 hours before asking me to be present in court responding to an SC ST actrocity act reportedly registered against me in 2021. I was living in my hostel in my University. My father almost suffered a heart attack. Our family has never been associated with anything like a criminal court we did not even know a lawyer to represent us. We did not know any lawyer. Nobody has ever received anything like this in my family or even been associated with the police. The shock caused both my aged parents to fall sick. We had no idea from where we could get a lawyer. Asking around somehow we managed one and we arrived at court.
The experience was shocking. We learnt that we had to bribe people to do their jobs in the court because apparently if bribes are not given then the case is extended continuously by resorting to means such as a grammatical error there or a full stop in another place which could constantly lead to more and more dates. This is apparently very open practice in the legal system and to question it means and entire lifetime of registering cases against people that we can never hope to win against. I had registered a case with the women's commission. People came from there and told me to withdraw the case saying that they could not revive the account therefore there was no evidence. If there was no evidence then nothing could be done. At the case that was registered against me is based on the same grounds. That case has not been taken back for no evidence. Nobody is questioning whether the screenshots are fabricated or they are real. Even at this stage I don't remember what I had written or what was the context of the conversation from where to comments have been screenshotted.
At first we thought that it was the lawyer who was corrupt. To get the bail he advised us that I should apologize for the crime that I did not commit in front of the court. I did not apologize. Even during the bail hearing I had no idea what was the case registered against me or who had registered this case. I was misled to believe that a case had been registered against me for feeding obnoxious substance to a person of the dalit community. As an academic, I have theoretically read about caste atrocity and often been vocal about this social evil in many domains. I was sure that there had been a misunderstanding.
I was not allowed to get a registered copy of the case against me for a long time even after the bail hearing. The opposite lawyer argued that I was apparently a very famous person who was opressing the lower caste people. We could not even defend ourselves because we did not even have the details of the case. I was granted bail.
We were allowed a peek at the official records where we got to know that these were screenshots uploaded from Facebook. One had three comments out of which two comments were from the other person with no context what so ever about what came before or what came after or what the conversation was actually about.. The third page has only the other person's long emotional comment with no hint about where it has come from whether it was actually part of the conversation with me or from somewhere else entirely. One screenshot showed a status uploaded criticizing riot mongering and people who financially benefited from riot mongering. Neither the status was about caste, nor did it make any reference to the caste issue. Most importantly it did not invite anybody to join in the debate. It was entirely about something els.. I do not even know who invited this person to comment underneath this post or who notified this person about this post. Even in the records which are available to me at the moment shows each of the comment of this person liked by 60 to 70 people who are joining in his jokes and enjoying them. There were also other screenshots which I saw in the record that day apparently submitted to the police on December 2021. One showed screenshot of the status before any comment had been put underneath it by anyone. It clearly showed that the status was being tracked. When we finally received the certified copy of the case along time after the bail hearing, we did not receive all the screenshots. Again apparently I had no power to question this. Anything spoken against 100 wrong things happening, each would take 10 to 20 years to fight a case about. The dates are months apart where the court doesn't sit everyday. Apparently there is nothing in the system that allows us to question how these official records were manipulated or changed. I was helpless. If I had known that a case was registered against me I would not have deleted my account or kept some proof to defend myself and god knows I had enough evidence to do so. The police also had from December to March to at least screenshot those pages. If the Facebook profile could be opened or anything could so what had truly happened I would be saved.
Outside the court right after bail, the opposite parties asked for money to withdraw the case saying that this would drag for years and years and I would pay if I did not pay right now. In 2022 I was sure that such a nonsense of a case would not hold and the judge would see right through it. I could not be more wrong and it is late 2023 now. I was incriminated by my name and my name was enough. I got to know that these case was not registered with cyber crime. These people had gone to the police and provided my residential address. I have no idea where they got my residential address from. The very anxiety of being stalked is half killing my family. The case was not even registered by the lower caste person who felt accused but rather by other people speaking for him who are not from the lower caste community. Thousands and thousands of rupees went bribing people simply for doing their job. Even for submitting the bail slip to the police station they asked for a bribe. The broke our backs. My parents almost died from the anxiety and mental strain but nobody was concerned. We did not know who was the enemy or where was the enemy and who to blame for the corruption. We blamed the lawyer and let him go.
During that time we had to make a decision because my University also announced a decision to hold us accountable for our attendance. My university is very far away from our home and my bail condition was that I could not leave the jurisdiction. I had no idea who to ask for advice. It was a matter of my career. My mother is an only pensioner in my house. My stipend is the only source of income and also the only way I can get a job in the future. I had to go and give attendance. I could not announce this case in my university for fear of repercussion from any politicized element or fear of getting mobbed. It was a long time before we could get a lawyer who could appeal for the modification of the bail. Everybody in court just look such as if we are experience practitioners and we should after doing our own jobs no every nitty- gritty of the official workings of the law court. Every advice that is given to us is being steared by people who are trying to extract money from US their food they are giving us advise which is either misleading us or serving to prolong the case often to hamper our case also.
The opposite party objected to the modification of the bail also complaining that I had gone to study. I have never seen people objecting to other people getting education. After getting bale they complaint that I was pursuing my education as if the case had been registered to stop me from studying..It is almost like personal Vendetta. The lawyers kept asking for more dates because every time they would get a date they would get paid fees. I was desperately asking for advise whenever I could and everybody was misleading me. Lawyers kept asking me to do something and later denied having told that. I was continuously told that I had no right to present my case before the court. I am being shut up every time I am trying to talk to the judge or explain myself while lawyers are constantly incriminating me steering the case so that it gets extended and elongated. I am told that I cannot write my own petition, I cannot speak in court and I must submit myself and my future to people who are constantly extorting me and exploiting me.
Having all proof and all documents they did not allow me to present them in the court asking for more dates creating more suspicion about my whereabouts. I am unable to attend any conferences or even do my classes. I am unable to do my duties or audit the courses I am supposed to. There is an age criteria after which I will not get a job and aparently no one gives two hoots about that. I am not getting help from any place. Everybody keeps asking for more and more money everyday. My parents are falling ill and I am falling ill. Everyday I change a lawyer (I have changed 3 till now), every lawyer is bent on prolonging the case as much as possible to extract more money.
Today was the last straw. For 3 dates, each after months.. I was asked to present documents which were ready a long time the lawyers would not let me speak in court or present my documents. Today this happened at the cost of the judge getting extremely angry and threatening to cancel my bail. I had the document and I wanted to presented but my lawyer shouted and stopped me because she wanted another date. Meanwhile I cannot go to my university or attend my classes or attend any conference. I cannot even tell an official about my problem. The court is threatening to go to my University and question over there. Everyday I am feeling like this entire design is being made to incriminate me. My own lawyers are incriminating me. They are making this about me. After having categorically told the lawyer what the judge needed and providing the relevant documents, the lawyers refused to present it in court. Without presenting the relevant documents in court and not allowing me to speak it appeared like I had something to hide. This scenario is being deliberately designed. I am being sabotaged from all quarters. People are giving me all sorts of advice from speaking to politicians and other things for something so simple and trivial.
This case is no longer about the case actually registered against me but has now become about the fact that I went to study despite getting bail. Unnecessary suspicion is being created by delaying the case over and over regarding a simple document which I have ready for months now. .I have never been absent in court from day 1. This is about a Facebook screenshot and now I feel like I have committed a murder. I feel however that somehow my life is being made to make some sort of a general statement. I have become some sort of a show monkey. If I am incriminated they will show that there has been a great move against caste considering my name. From every quarter I am being sabotaged. The person who has registered the case against me is never present in court after day 1 and only the person who has defect to complained for him is present.. they don't seem to have to pay the lawyer because they are supposedly great friends. I feel that there is a network of people among the lawyers who are their friends.
Nobody is considering the fact that even if I win this case after 10 years, I will not have a job. Is this being designed to kill me indirectly this way or that? Apparently the Indian law as I have been led to believe by the many lawyers that I have hired, does not allow myself to speak about my case or cleared for my innocence or defend myself... I feel like my mouth has been taped shut and every day people are inventing new new things and information and telling me that I should have known all about criminal proceedings. I am being exploited. My life is being destroyed. Some people are advising me that I should stop studying what I am studying and start studying law for the rest of my life just to fight this case against me. I don't know what to do anymore... I feel desperate and I feel like I do not know people or have the contacts necessary to save myself.. everybody that I am talking to is trying to use my case to further their agenda or extract money from me.. some people are using words to talk to me which make me look like a criminal... Some people are advising me to do things which are obviously to incriminate me...
I don't know who is misleading me... I don't know who to take advice from that will not exploit me... I feel like I am being driven towards suicide institutionally in such a way that nobody can be blamed but I can still die... I do not get help from any quarter.. I am being stalked... Threatened
All I can understand now is that I was attacked then and after attacking me my attackers themselves have registered a case against me... This is a country where the lower caste people are ran over by cars by ministers and there is a news where people are celebrating an Olympic players loss because they are lower caste... I do not understand... Am I scape goat? Is my life being used to make a political statement?
When I kill myself will they also kill my parents like this? When they do will they say that they have avenged caste atrocity? I feel like this is no longer about caste atrocity but somehow a group of people are taking revenge against me to make some sort of a political statement or to show some people that they are doing something...

Tehri Hydro Power Complex (THDC) has released a notification for the recruitment of 52 Engineer Trainees through GATE 2022. Students from the Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical stream with a minimum 65% aggregate in graduation and class 10th and 12th can apply for the position. Plagued by overseas deaths, India's cough syrup exporters must now take govt mandated tests
The quality check of the cough syrups has been taken after India's image as the "pharmacy of the world" took a knock following the WHO alerts on contaminated cough syrups.
NEW DELHI: From June 1, all cough syrup exporters will have to undertake mandatory testing of their products at specified government laboratories before getting permission for the outbound shipments.
The direction comes after three alerts issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO), in seven months, on contaminated India-made cough syrups.
“The export of cough syrup shall be permitted to be exported subject to export samples being tested and production of a certificate of analysis issued by any of the laboratories, with effect from June 1, 2023,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification on Monday.
The earmarked central government labs include Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Regional Drug Testing Lab (RDTL — Chandigarh), Central Drugs Lab (CDL — Kolkata), Central Drug Testing Lab (CDTL — Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai), RDTL (Guwahati) and the NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accredited drug testing labs of State governments.

For this, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare would partner with the state governments and the exporters.
Officials believe this measure would help re-emphasise India’s commitment to assuring the quality of various exported pharmaceutical products. They added that necessary steps are being taken to ensure the smooth implementation of this testing requirement.
India exported cough syrups worth $17.6 billion in 2022–23 against $17 billion in 2021–22.
India-made cough syrups were allegedly linked to the deaths of 70 children in the Gambia and 18 children in Uzbekistan last year.
In April, WHO again raised an alert over contaminated India-made cough syrup sold in the Marshall Islands and Micronesia. But it was not just cough syrups.
Earlier this year, an India-manufactured eye drop was linked to an outbreak of highly resistant bacterial infections in the U.S.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is the national public health agency of the US, had linked the eye drops manufactured by Chennai-based pharma company Global Pharma Healthcare to the likelihood of a highly drug-resistant bacteria gaining a foothold in the U.S.
India is the largest provider of generic drugs globally, supplying over 50 per cent of the global demand for vaccines, about 40 per cent of generic demand in the US, and about 25 per cent of all medicine in the UK.
Globally, India ranks third in pharmaceutical production by volume and 14th by value.
The industry includes a network of 3,000 drug companies and about 10,500 manufacturing units. It facilitates the availability and supply of high-quality, affordable, accessible medicines worldwide.
Similarly, over 80 per cent of the antiretroviral drugs used globally to combat AIDS are supplied by Indian pharmaceutical firms.
