Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184: Mountain Climbing Mecha Combat #1301

Highlighting the February 3362 Double Rainbow Chrono
The Gaming Authorities decided to let us have a Double Rainbow for once, and made it a Chrono to boot.
Ok, so we were only allowed to use up to two Mechs of each model. That would hurt some, especially those who had focused only on a few models. I do tend to have at least one copy of each model, and were able to put together a legal formation consisting of 90+tonners, although the heaviest models were still a long way from their full potential when it came to upgrading.
But as in any Chrono, we rushed to the mountain. And after a brief struggle vs an out of formation opponent we held the top. I did mention that quite a few of my heaviest Mechs was less than fully developed?
Here that fact started hitting me pretty soon, as opponents having Mechs closer to finished started arriving. LEGENDS had sent roward, Darryl Proctor and James Waddington. The Bouncing Blue Berserkers was present in the persons of Darth, Spidious, Darren Jackson and Yusuke Paul Okabayashi. In addition some other opponents, -including Spike Shepard from Dragons n NWHL (who had the lowest licence of us all), proved strong enough to be a threath.
After the initial twenty or so scorerounds I had managed to stay among the three highest scorers, the other two were roward and Darryl Proctor. I managed somehow to claw my way to the top from time to time, although the number of failed assaults between successes were appaling, especially vs roward.
He had a formation of lower tonnage than mine, but his Licence was 40+ higher than mine, so the Mechs he had present was closer to fully operational, in additin to having more than a dozen weapon mounts more than mine. Luckily, friends had sent plenty of supers, so we could afford to launch the long strings of assaults (two dozen on the average) needed to claim the top from time to time.
After about seventy scorerounds I had managed to buld a small lead, but other comittments would keep my away from the tops for much of the remainder of the climb. A last rally against roward who currently was at the top succeeded in bringing him down in the thirty-fourth try, so now it was to keep my fingers crossed and hope he didnt show up for a while. But when I managed a quick return trip, roward was at the top and we had been displaced to the lower slopes. A last hurrah saw us exchange places, but we would have to hold the top for the rest of the climb to triumph now.
We didnt. When I finally could get back in earnest, he had taken the top, and his advantage was too big for us to outscore him, -unless he should somehow fall to the bottom of the heap. A low chance is however better than no chance, so we once more dethroned him. And were allowed to keep the top for the rest of the climb.
But as roward stayed on the slopes, he was the one who could claim the Golden throphy and the Nephilax when the event finally ended.
The full list of winners were:
Div 1 420+ (23 Commanders): Dexter Berry, LEGENDS (+27710) 2: Fabio Favaro 3: Bernard Johnson 4: Claude Poirier 5: Gary Muenzel 6: Jeff Haas 7: Sal Vezzosi Jr 8: Terry Harper 9: Sherriff Leary Wretham 10: Shawn Wretham Div 2 -419 (17 Commanders): David Sifford, LEGENDS (+2470) Div 3 -314 (14 Commanders): Ken Fuchs, LEGENDS (+23460) Div 4 -231 (18 Commanders): roward, LEGENDS (+7140) Div 5 -179 (35 Commanders): Jason Pedracini, S.w.f.l.b. (+19600) Div 6 -125 (24 Commanders): Brian Patenaude, S.w.f.l.b. (+21040) Div 7 -93 (23 Commanders): Jack Travis, S.w.f.l.b. (+17790) Div 8 -62 (24 Commanders): sliverice_1, **R.V.** (+40340) Div 9 -41 (17 Commanders): Mini-Gunner, M&L A.R.S.E. (+17320) Div 10 -24 (15 Commanders): Captain Beefheart, I.P.G. 2 (+41700) Div 11 -15 (16 Commanders): roskaa, I.P.G. 2 (+9860)
Total Contestants: 226 Total medals claimed: (of 165 possible)
Compared to the 90 ton event we just had, another couple handfuls of Commanders showed up. But yet again, we had one unclaimed medal, this time on K3.
Highest score in this event was 172 500. A trio of commanders managed to hold the top against all comers for the entire climb (138 scorerounds). They were: Ken Fuchs from LEGENDS on K3, sliverice_1 of **Raging Vengeance* on K8 and Independent Players Goup 2`s Captain Beefheart on K10. Captain Beefheart also had the biggest margin to the runner-up, an astonishing 41 700 lead, more than many of the competititors scored in total. Lowest score needed for a medal was 4800 for a Bronze on K3.
Only four Golds were secured by margins in excess of 18 000, while one was won by less than 2500. This indicates a fairly even contest where many made a bid for the top prizes. But was that the case for the lesser prizes as well? Best way to find out is to look at the differences between the medal tiers in this event:
..Silver to Bronze....Bronze to nothing Div 1 ......2440......….….....5840 Div 2 ....21000...…............1800 Div 3 ....16100...…..............N/A Div 4 ......6810...…............3260 Div 5 ......8790...…............2635 Div 6 ....15360...…............1160 Div 7 ....15150...…................20 Div 8 ....27080...…............1660 Div 9 ....14140...…..............490 Div 10 ..17120...…..............N/A Div 11 ..16800...…..........19140
The walls up to the Silvers were mostly solid to daunting, but two of the nine contested Bronzes were decided by less than 500, one by as little as 20. When the scores are that close, who signed up first might well have been the decisive factor, -something to keep in mind when another Chrono comes along.
When the Factions come together, the number of Golds claimed by them tend to rise, and this was certainly a case in point. Independent Player Group 2 got a double Gold (K10 + K11), Sharks with friggin laser beams claimed a trio (from K5, K6 and K7) while LEGENDS in a show of strenght claimed the Golds from the four highest tops. There was no Golds won by any unaligned Commanders, and the sole repeat winner was Ken Fuchs of the LEGENDS on K3.
Upcoming event: Scouts Honor
Here we get an event where even some of the Light Mechs are considered too heavy to participate, -no Mechs heavier than 20 tons allowed. For the budget Mechs that means we are limited to Ants, Anzu`s and Shocklites. For those who have some War Horses, Axe Bots and especially Commissars, this is the time to make them shine.
Event ends August 12 between 0000 and 0030 New York Time

Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184: Mecha Combat #1233 - May 3358 Triple Rainbow Chrono
(By Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184) Mountain Climbing Mecha Combat #1233

Highlighting the May 3358 Triple Rainbow Chrono
The Gaming Authorities decided to give us a Chrono this time, and made it a Triple Rainbow.
As in all Rainbows, the restriction is not on what Mechs one are allowed to use, but rather the number of Mechs from each model. Here the number was three.
On the face of it, this would be an easier event for me than the Single Rainbow we had back in January. Here the restrictions were less stringent, so there were no need to use so many Mechs that still not had been fully upgraded. Also, this time we were to fight on K4 instead of K3, so the opponents would not outlicence me to the same degree.
As the formation in question was on the books in the hangar, it took almost no time to get it ready, and as we were the first to arrive the top was ours for the asking. So unless some powerful formations showed up, this could be a cake-walk.
Unfortunately, said powerful formations did show up, and my crew were unceremonely pushed to the lower foothills. Our counterattacks were met by heavy resistance, and it began to look as if we would be lucky to get any prize at all. Then it dawned on me. My Heavy Guard drones had expired.
Running hat in hand between my multitude of friends, I managed to get a couple dozen of them to donate some drones, and upon my return to the mountain the opponents were easier to dispatch. And after a bloody campaign we actually managed to claim the lowest slope position. That was as far as we got. The four highest spots were held by: David Sifford and Ken Fuchs from the Northwind Dragons, KiloToneRecoil from the Brotherhood of Arcane Dragons and roward from the Black Star Lycan Rangers. All of them opponents we might beat once in a blue moon, but here the best we managed was to get a glimpse of their fourth and Fifth lines.
Recognizing a lost cause, the crew were ordered to get into laager mode and get as much footage of the fighting on the other tops as possible.
So when the light finally flashed, it was clear the highest scorers had been:
Div 1 417+ (17 Commanders): Fabio Favaro, Warlocks (+7390) 2: Bernard Johnson 3: Gary Muenzel 4: Claude Poirier 5: David Buchanan 6: Terry Cole 7: Shawn Wretham 8: Roy Cheah 9: Jeff Haas 10: Sal Vezzosi Jr Div 2 -416 (14 Commanders): John T Mainer, Spirit of Bunny (+9780) Div 3 -312 (13 Commanders): George Warren, Warlocks (+10990) Div 4 -226 (27 Commanders): David Sifford, Northwind Dragons (+12410) Div 5 -176 (27 Commanders): Luc Lachance, T.B. BlackWatch (+90) Div 6 -123 (19 Commanders): Neves7again, Black Star Bandits (+490) Div 7 -91 (26 Commanders): Robert Pawulski, Ronins (+3510) Div 8 -59 (19 Commanders): Don Rafael, Shadows Garden (+2860) Div 9 -38 (19 Commanders): Jossdanny Camposzevallos, Mad Scientist 1 (+1120) Div 10 -23 (18 Commanders): Map Chapp, I.N.A. (+13510) Div 11 -14 (20 Commanders): Al Layton, *R.V.* (+30710)
Total Contestants: 219 Total medals claimed: 162 (of 165 possible)
Compared to the previous (Selfsame) event, an additional dozen Commanders showed up for the Chrono. Due to the imbalances between the tops, there were not enough Commanders to claim all the medals this time either. So one Bronze from K2 and two from K3 were returned for resmelting after the award ceremony.
The highest score achieved in this event was on K4 where David sifford from the Northwind Dragons held the top against all comers for 73 scorerounds, amassing 91 250 Points. Most crushing win was on K11 where Al Layton from *Raging Vengeance outscored the runner-up by 30 710. Lowest score needed for a medal was on K8 where 9280 was needed to claim the last Bronze.
Only four Golds were secured by margins in excess of 10 000, and two of the Golds were decided by margins of less than 500. That is knife edge differences we almost never see when a Chrono Gold is involved. Given the close fighting we saw for the Golds, question is how intense the struggles for the rest of the prizes were. The best way to find out is to look at the differences between the medal tiers in this event:
..Silver to Bronze....Bronze to nothing
Div 1 ......2260......………….320 Div 2 ......2740...….........…..N/A Div 3 ...…..460...….........…..N/A Div 4 ....15520...…............1300 Div 5 ......3860...….........…..360 Div 6 ......2370...….........…..200 Div 7 ....10580...…............1100 Div 8 ...…..580...…............3080 Div 9 ......3880...…............2260 Div 10 …...300...…............3400 Div 11 ….6300...….........…..460
While there was some impressive walls here, a trio of the Silvers and four of the nine contested Bronzes were decided by margins of less than 1000. I suspect much of those differences can be ascribed to who signed up first, something to keep in mind when another Chrono is held.
The only clan to claim multiple Golds in this event was the Warlocks. They won on both Mount Olympus and K3. None of the unaligned Commanders managed to get a Gold, and the sole repeat winner was Warlocks` Fabio Favaro on Mount Olympus.
Upcoming event: Daemon Deadline
Er. Didnt we just have this event back in April? Not quite, but it have almost the same rules as back then. The differences are as follows: On the nine highest tops we are still supposed to use Daemons, but we are allowed to use ONE Mech of a different design, provided it doesnt outmass the 50 ton Daemons. And on the two lowest tops (K10 and K11) we have a 50 ton max event this time, not an unlimited event.
Event ends April 17 between 2200 and 2230 New York Time
