Released 32 years ago, Nirvana's second album changed the history of rock and gave shape to a post-adolescent disenchantment that continues today, through the hands of artists like Billie Eilish.
32 years since "Nevermind": when Nirvana changed rock history with post-adolescent disenchantment
"Nevermind" hit stores on September 24, 1991. "It was an album that left old hard rock, the fashionable rock at the time, superficial, misogynistic and less intense", French music journalist Charlotte Blum, author from a book about the grunge movement. In fact, Guns N'Roses' double album, "Use Your Illusion I & II", released just a week earlier, felt much older.
Musically, the explosion was total, with "In Bloom" and "Come As You Are", which for North American music critic Alex Ross oscillate "between meditation and struggle". A mix of calm and storm that emerged in the studio of Butch Vig, music producer and drummer who would later form Garbage.
For another rock critic, Frenchman Nicolas Dupuy, it is a synthesis between "Black Sabbath and Beatles".
Although three decades later "Nevermind" is also in the news for negative reasons (the baby on the cover sued Nirvana at the end of August for child pornography), rock was never the same after the single "Smells Like Teen Spirit", whose The video clip was shown relentlessly on MTV, "the reference media at the time", says Blum.
"HBO of Music"
"'Nevermind' inaugurated grunge, it achieved its objective", says Dupuy. The members of Nirvana (Cobain, Dave Groh and Krist Novoselic) only hoped that sales would allow them to pay the bills, but the album dethroned "Dangerous", Michael Jackson's eighth studio album, from first place in the sales charts.

2023 Africa Cup of Nations: We lost to a better team - Madagascar coach after defeat to Ghana

Head coach of the Madagascar national team, Nicolas Dupuis has admitted that the Black Stars were strong for his side.
The Barea suffered a 3-0 defeat against Ghana at the Cape Coast Stadium in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] opener on Wednesday night.
Goals from Mohammed Kudus, Afena-Gyan, and Osman Bukari were enough as the Black Stars picked all three points.
Speaking after the game, Dupuis commended Ghana for the victory as well as the qualification to the World Cup which will be held in Qatar in November.
“I said that we came here for business when you are going into a battle you can’t say that you are going to lose. We fought and we lost. We met a strong team who are ready to go for the World Cup and once again I congratulate them on the win. We were too young and I believe they will learn more lessons from this game,” he said.
He also clarified that his team were undone by his inexperience. He emphasized the hope that his players will learn from the defeat and bounce back stronger.
The captain of the Bareas was full of praise for his teammates but noted that they were undone by inexperience.
“In the first, we defended well but the Ghanaian attackers were too fast. We tried to contain them but in the second half, we couldn’t. Most of our players are young and were playing their first international match so they did well. We were beaten and we accept it,” he said.
Madagascar were handed a hammering by Ghana at the Cape Coast Stadium on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
Ghana have leaped to the top of Group E following the win. The Black Stars, in their second group game, will play as guests in the Central Africa Republic on June 5, 2022.
