"Traditionally, Afrikans see marriage as a highly valued and honor-giving duty, a social responsibility. It is not, as so many of us steeped in this selfish Western individualism believe, seen as taking away from one’s freedom or a self-gratifying outlet by which individuals can find and express themselves. It was and, for many retaining and returning to our traditions, remains the best possible expression of respect of self and the Creator. Marriage is the means by which we exercise our right to grow as individuals through intimate interaction. It offers willing, dedicated participants the privilege of expressing our talents more powerfully through working with another to produce an even greater product than ourselves. It is the most logical, socially agreed upon tradition by which we can become better than our individual selves. Through it, we share all that we have with someone else in order to produce things that we could never do alone. Within it we bring forth new life, new creativity."

Tanzania Gets Madagascar's Anti-Coronavirus Remedy
Tumblr media
Tanzania says it has received its first shipment of Madagascar's self-proclaimed, plant-based "cure" for coronavirus, despite warnings from the World Health Organization that its efficacy is unproven. The announcement on Friday came days after Madagascar said it would begin selling the herbal concoction - known as Covid-Organics - and that several African countries had already put in orders. "Tanzania today received the support of coronavirus medicine from Madagascar," government spokesperson Hassan Abas said on Twitter. The purported remedy is a drink derived from artemisia - a plant with proven efficacy in malaria treatment - and other indigenous herbs. Last month, Madagascar's President Andry Rajoelina launched the remedy at a news conference, drinking from a sleekly-branded bottle filled with an amber liquid which he said had already cured two people. Madagascar has since been giving away thousands of bottles of the product, developed by the state-run Malagasy Institute of Applied Research, to countries across Africa. Earlier this week, the East African island nation told the Reuters news agency it would begin selling the drink, which domestically can be bought for around 40 US cents per bottle. Along with Tanzania, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia and Guinea-Bissau have already received thousands of doses of Covid-Organics free of charge. Guinea-Bissau has received more than 16 000 doses which it is distributing to the 14 other African nations. Liberia's Deputy Information Minister Eugene Farghon said this week there was no plan to test the remedy before distribution. "It will be used by Liberians and will be used on Liberians," he said, noting that the WHO had not tested other popular local remedies. "Madagascar is an African country ... Therefore we will proceed as an African nation and will continue to use our African herbs." WHO expresses misgivings But the WHO has warned against "adopting a product that has not been taken through tests to see its efficacy". Isolated compounds extracted from artemisia are effective in malaria drugs, the WHO noted, but the plant itself cannot treat malaria. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention also said the drink should be "tested rigorously". Health specialists are worried that people who drink the product might feel they are immune to Covid-19 and engage in risky behaviour, the WHO's Africa head Matshidiso Moeti said. "We are concerned that touting this product as a preventive measure might then make people feel safe," she said. The African Union (AU) on Monday said it was trying to get Madagascar's technical data on the remedy, and would pass that to the Africa CDC for evaluation. "This review will be based on global technical and ethical norms to garner the necessary scientific evidence," the AU said. Meanwhile, Tanzanian President John Magufuli has come under fire for repeatedly playing down the gravity of the coronavirus pandemic. After Magufuli on April 22 accused the health ministry of stoking panic by releasing new figures, the country has only updated its numbers once, on April 29, at which date it had recorded 480 cases. Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu on Friday said the government would resume giving regular updates in a few days after completing improvements to the country's laboratory infrastructure. "Coronavirus is there and it will continue for a couple of months. We have patients and others are dying," Mwalimu said. "We need to learn how to live with it by taking precautionary measures."   Read the full article

Tanzania on Friday received its first shipment of a herbal concoction that Madagascar’s government claims cures COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
Several African nations have expressed interest in the purported remedy, which is known as Covid-Organics.
“Tanzania today received the support of coronavirus medicine from Madagascar,” government spokesman Hassan Abas said on Twitter.
The drink is derived from artemisia — a plant with proven efficacy in malaria treatment — and other indigenous herbs.
But the World Health Organization on Thursday warned against “adopting a product that has not been taken through tests to see its efficacy”, and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has also said it should be “tested rigorously”.
Madagascar’s official body in charge of drug control has not approved the drink for sale in the country.
However the state has granted a temporary authorisation for it to be sold, a scientist authorised by the government to speak about the tea told a local television programme on Friday.
Tanzanian President John Magufuli has come under fire for repeatedly playing down the gravity of the coronavirus.

LaYeReD THouGHTS
Am tired, aki nimechoka na nimechoka sana
You try so hard to stay relevant
Sometimes for yourself and at times for others
Ni kaa kuuza nguruwe mskitini
Katika hizo harakati muuzaji hujipata bila mashati
Some things don’t cut it with the wrong audience
And if you’re being honest,
All things don’t cut it with the wrong crowd
Mi si slay queen na mi si ode
Kuna masaa ya uber na masaa ya rodi
Bff minister na neighbor konkodi
I realize am caught between the divide
To do and be better, and at times an eye for an eye
Do I lie? I can’t die, recognize
Am a daughter of the most high
Third eye, insight, my maker, I and I
Am confused, I lie
Am calm as the sea before a stormy night
And right after
The constant calm that always watches
Is anything really required of me?
And if it is, why is it so?
Who in society do I owe?
Didn’t each of us come on their own?
Across the stars and through birth
To curve a story, create a life, their very own
Except for the very simple fact that I am human
Nothing about me can be likened to any man
All woman, a vessel to express his will
From within, like clay to a potter
 Is my individuality a crime?
Does a drop in the ocean know it is a drop, or
Does the illusion convince it, it is only part of the sea?
Who are you to me?
One in all and all is one
From the first came the last
And the last stands alone
My own
Of course, it does, isn’t it me? I?
I searched for God and only found myself
For I prayed and answered my self
Meditated and only heard my self
Kujiangalia kwa kioo ni kama kuwatch mannequin outside a store
So close yet so far away
The stranger within
So familiar, a comrade, daughter, sister
Yet a stranger, evolving, learning, ever-changing
Nina maswali kwa kweli na sicheki, nawaza nikiwazua, sibanduki
Nikinyambua na kuchanganya mchanganiko wa mawazo
Vikwwazo ninazo kwa wingi
Mi sili silali, moyo wazi , unearth me...
 Aina za wanadamu natambua,
Forget the rich and the poor
Walio na ukame ama hata mvua
Diversity runs deep, every nation, under skin
Utapata shoga ana manzi
Mwalimu duanzi, utadhani ye mwanafunzi
Lipstick black na nywele samawati
Katikati mshipi rangi ya majani,
chai, hongo, mwenda pole hajikwai,
walahi, alhamdulilahi, nishawai siri za maisha,
roho dirisha, mdomo lango
Ni ka kutisha ndovu utamnyonga na kamba,
Hii life ni uncertain
The only certainty being that everything changes
 Between the heart and mind
Is a walk, a stroll, one of a kind
You never walk behind, just in stride
Within the essence that powers humankind
When the heart feels the mind will rise
Stretching to find a solution inside
Your personal bona fide
Sworn servant, but a master by default
Endless chatter with nowhere to siphon
The careless servant playing master upon my throne
Absent master, caught inside, locked within
Where are my thoughts? Why them? Is this a bad thought? What haven’t I bought? Where’s my charger? I need a nap. Why the hell is it so hot? Organized chaos, mental mad hatter
Si advice na si suluhisho
Fikira kama mto, bila wito, kelele bila mwisho
Aki nimechoka, nimechoka tena sana
So I take matters into my own hands
This life is divine and its mine
As long as dawn comes, the sun will rise
As long as am alive I’ll use my eyes
To see what needs to be seen and observe the rest
As long as am alive, my body will serve
Me as the master and my servant mind
Pure essence, imperfect growth
Body host for my Soul
In and out of dreamland
Occasionally I pause
With fire burning, I acknowledge that
Am a woman with some flaws but
a rebel with a cause
I stop to listen to what the servant has to say
For they know my home
The armies of cells know my organs best,
Running everything while my mind is at rest
It’s fine, the heart will always bridge the divide
This or that, fire and ice
From ashes comes the Phoenix
My only truth knowledge
From the worst comes the best
The best being the manifestation of
The worsts constant need for purification, imperfect perfection
The desired outcome is always a result
Of the test of a lifetime
the only test in this lifetime
the ability to change and adapt,
Multiple manifestations of the creative will aside,
The journey within has its own tide
And with every passing cloud
comes the sun in between, strong and purposeful
always shining for the Leo in me

Another NRM MP tells off M7, calls those supporting age limit removal 'Short term opportunists'

Another NRM MP tells off M7, calls those supporting age limit removal 'Short term opportunists'
I hope God will touch the heart of Mr. Museveni to avoid the temptation of listening to short term opportunistic individuals that are pushing for the removal of Age limit in our Constitution.”
Alex Ruhunda, the Fort portal Municipality Member of Parliament
Alex Ruhunda, the Fort portal Municipality Member of Parliament has become the latest legislator from the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party to speak against the proposed scrapping of the presidential age limit from the constitution.
Ruhunda expressed his sentiments on the proposal in a message on his facebook page, in which he reveals his submissions to the recent NRM party caucus.
“I have been reflecting on the future of my beloved country Uganda the Pearl of Africa especially after an emotionally heated atmosphere in Parliament on Thursday.
I hope God will touch the heart of Mr. Museveni to avoid the temptation of listening to short term opportunistic individuals that are pushing for the removal of Age limit in our Constitution.” Said Ruhunda.
According to Ruhunda, it is time for the NRM to plan Museveni’ succession if his legacy is to remain like that of Tanzania’s founding president, the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
“These were my words in the NRM caucus and I pray that we stop the overzealous of making a fundamental mistake that will create a huge political and security problem for our Country yet we were set to move out of poverty,” he says.
According to Ruhunda, his voters in Fort portal made it clear to him not to tamper with the constitution by amending Article 102 (b) and that he is to respect the people’s will. Ruhunda confirmed his statement in a telephone interview with The SpearNews.
Asked why he is coming out now, Ruhunda said he didn’t have to wait until the matter is brought to parliament.
Ruhunda now joins a section of other NRM MPs who have vowed to defy the party caucus to support a motion by the Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi seeking to scrap Article 102 (b) of the constitution, which caps the presidential age at 75 years.
The move is aimed at paving way for Mr Museveni to seek re-election when his term of office expires in 2021.
Museveni, who was born in 1944, wouldn’t be eligible to contest for the presidency in 2021, since he will be above 75 years of age.
Some of the NRM MPs who have spoken strongly against the proposed amendment include Kumi Woman MP, Monica Amoding, Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Sekikubo, Kassanda County MP, Patrick Nsamba Oshabe, Kasambya County MP, Gaffa Mbwatekamwa and Manjiya County MP John Baptist Nambeshe and others.
The MPs have since launched a new campaign to create a transition from Museveni to another President. They also seek to reinstate term limits on the Presidency.
The MPs are now working jointly on two separate Private Member’s bills they intend to present to parliament for debate.
