Silver slugger Frank Thomas, aka, “The Big Hurt”, April 1997.  Hall of famer Thomas was one of the top hitters of the 1990s, arguably the best if it weren’t for steroids during that era.  With an impressive .301 lifetime batting average, he hit over .300 for ten seasons of his 20 year career including a .353 mark in 1994; averaged nearly 40 home runs a season during his first decade; was AL MVP twice; and won the batting title in 1997 (.347 average).  Drafted and played with the Chicago White Sox for most of his career, which unfortunately limited his post season opportunities although he finally did get a World Series ring in 2005.
Thomas, along with Ken Griffey, Jr and a few other elite players, did not take performance enhancing drugs during the 90s, unlike many of their peers.  On the contrary, he repeatedly asked for mandatory testing by the league and passed numerous random tests during his career.  Although he was voted an all-star five times, by today’s post-PED standards he probably would’ve been an all-star twice that.
He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014 and remains the only player in major league history to have seven consecutive seasons of a .300 average and at least 100 walks, 100 runs, 100 runs batted in, and 20 home runs.  He also joined fellow hall of famers Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Jimmie Foxx, and Mel Ott in hitting at least 500 home runs while maintaining a career .300+ batting average.

Everything about the Le Spinoff looks OTT, embarrassing, and cringe. And imagine how much more convoluted it is once we know more context. With all that said, I honestly don’t understand why we’re rooting for Carol to be added to this? Carol is amazing, but she can’t polish this turd. And why would we want Mel in a situation with the people who already treated her like trash? I love Caryl, I love Carol, I love Mel, I loved Daryl, and these are why I just can’t root for this.
I have plans to address this much more thoroughly at a later time, but I'll say this (and only this) for now. If Melissa signed on for S2, it's because she wanted to, because she knows how to navigate her relationship with Norman or whoever else without any of us trying to weigh in, and because she gets a say on the direction of the story, which I suspect AMC wants to be very different from whatever absurdity is going on in S1 anyway. From what I hear Melissa has very good instincts, so if she's on board, then so am I.

Another ask-game ask :D For Okita:
11. In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been?
and/or
13. Is your character bothered by the sight of blood? If so, in what way?
Welp, this might be a bit OTT on details, but I guess I had no other way to explain this :x There's one very specific case in which Okita was the most afraid that she's ever been in her entire life; and as much of a cliche as this is, it would be her experimentation/creation period. It's tortured and haunted her for years into her life. As that's quite literally what they did to her and many others: Torture.
In my AU, once the Mewtwo body has been created, that's only one half of the process: The only way to produce a Mewtwo (In a factory-line-laboratory setting) is to have their spirit break through excruciatingly painful means. Whether that be electric shock treatment, or just their development in general, pumping them full of stimulants and enhancers, like vitamins, to create the most powerful pokemon. Than there's the live surgeries within the nutrient rich tank…
Unfortunately that's the earliest memory Okita can recall, despite the fact that her parents say she was a regular 6 Y/O human kid before it, she's only heard stories from her parents of that time in her life. (That is… If she was even human at all to begin with 👀)
As for the sight of blood, she is petrified of it :< and will most likely feel lightheaded around a small amount of it. A large amount and she'd be on the ground, fainted.
Here is a small excerpt from my 3rd chapter that shows her having a flashback of that moment:
"Why can't they…! Why can't anyone reverse it, Mum!? If I even had this choice everyone keeps telling me, I wouldn't need the month of down time looking like it. I hate it so much… All… All it reminds me of is the pain, and the smell of blood floating around me when th…" "Okita! I know, please, stop thinking about it, countdown from 10, please Sweetie… I know, I know…"
Ty for the ask @mel-the-pirate! I love writing these about my OC's ^^ They're my hyperfixation after-all XD

On This Day in Baseball History June 17, 1960: The player known as the Splendid Splinter becomes the 4th member of the 500 homerun club. Ted Williams joins the Babe Ruth, Jimmy Foxx and Mel Ott with a two run homerun against the Cleveland Indians. Williams would finish his career at the end of that season with 521 homers.
In reality, Williams could have surpassed the 600 homerun mark if not 700 had he played the almost five seasons that he gave up to serve in World War II and the Korean War as a pilot.

Exploring Historical Accuracy in Period Dramas
Exploring Historical Accuracy in Period Dramas: Discovering the Best Movies on OTT
Imagine being transported back in time, walking through the grandeur of ancient palaces, or witnessing the turmoil of historic battles. This is the enchanting world that period dramas on Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms promise. But while these films offer a captivating journey into the past, how accurate are they in portraying history? In this blog, we’ll delve into the intriguing realm of historical accuracy in period dramas and highlight some of the best movies on OTT platforms that masterfully blend entertainment with historical authenticity.
Tumblr media
1. “The Favourite” (2018)
Our journey begins with “The Favourite,” a darkly comedic exploration of the tumultuous relationship between two cousins vying for the favor of Queen Anne in 18th-century England. The film brilliantly captures the opulence and political intrigue of the era while weaving in captivating performances.
2. “12 Years a Slave” (2013)
This harrowing tale is based on the true story of Solomon Northup, a free African American who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the pre-Civil War United States. The film’s unflinching portrayal of the brutal realities of slavery has earned it critical acclaim and historical accuracy.
3. “Elizabeth” (1998)
“Elizabeth” takes us back to the tumultuous reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Cate Blanchett’s powerful performance and the film’s attention to detail in recreating the Elizabethan era make it a standout period drama.
4. “Lincoln” (2012)
Directed by Steven Spielberg, “Lincoln” offers an intimate look at the life of Abraham Lincoln during a pivotal moment in American history — the passage of the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery. Daniel Day-Lewis’s portrayal of Lincoln is both compelling and historically grounded.
5. “Gladiator” (2000)
Travel back to ancient Rome in “Gladiator,” where Russell Crowe’s Maximus seeks vengeance against the corrupt emperor who murdered his family. While the film takes some creative liberties, its portrayal of Roman society and the Colosseum is visually stunning.
6. “Amadeus” (1984)
“Amadeus” explores the life and genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart through the eyes of his envious contemporary, Antonio Salieri. The film immerses us in the musical splendor of 18th-century Vienna and the eccentric brilliance of Mozart.
7. “Braveheart” (1995)
Mel Gibson’s epic “Braveheart” transports us to medieval Scotland, following the legendary William Wallace as he leads a revolt against English tyranny. While the film takes liberties with some historical facts, it captures the spirit of Scottish resistance.
8. “The King’s Speech” (2010)
This poignant drama delves into the life of King George VI as he grapples with a speech impediment on the brink of World War II. The film beautifully recreates the period and offers a glimpse into the monarchy’s challenges during that time.
9. “Barry Lyndon” (1975)
Stanley Kubrick’s visually stunning “Barry Lyndon” immerses viewers in 18th-century Europe. The film’s meticulous attention to detail and cinematography create a visually arresting historical narrative.
10. “The Last Emperor” (1987)
Our journey concludes with the biographical epic “The Last Emperor,” which traces the life of Puyi, the last emperor of China. This visually captivating film offers a glimpse into China’s tumultuous transition from empire to republic.
In Conclusion
Period dramas on OTT platforms provide us with an enchanting blend of entertainment and historical insight. While creative liberties are often taken for dramatic effect, the best of these films strive for historical accuracy, offering a window into the past.
