Busting Myths On Cobots
Four Key Questions to Consider Before Companies Adopt Palletising Cobots by James McKew of Asia-Pacific Universal Robots. #Cobots #Singapore
Follow us on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter By James McKewTweet In the late 1940s, the first conventional palletiser surfaced, then consisting of a series of conveyors to assist in palletising processes. Fast forward to the early 1980s, and palletisers were armed with robots, serving as an alternative solution to pick and place products onto pallets. Now, in the 21st…

A week ago, a unified Europe (yes, including the fractious UK) with moxie and certainty seemed impossible to achieve. The Americans seemed to be out in the front, prodding everyone else along. Now, momentum has shifted. Europe is forging into the fray. Europe is back. Ukraine has cemented a place in it. American leadership is a beat behind. But everyone is hoping it will catch up. The simple truth is, we cannot lose momentum. We must all stand together. All can still be lost. And while the price of that would most immediately be seen in Ukrainian blood, we now know that would never be the end of it. This has to be where we stand against Putin, and turn him back.

Osmar Schindler - Germanic Warrior with Roman Helmet (1902)
This is a very interesting painting, and reminds me a lot of Vercingetorix Throws Down his Arms (1899) by Lionel Royer as well as Vercingetorix surrenders to Caesar (1886) by Henri-Paul Motte.
Both of these paintings of Vercingetorix came at a time when the French were obsessed with their national identity and culture. A University of Dayton honors thesis by Martin McKew does a good job of describing the connection:

More American Loss: Twitter Moment
Remember Trump Victory & American Loss?  Well, this is what happens when the President of the United States of America is a major tool.  This collection of Twitter tweets is more than just a thread, it is more like a rope.  More American Loss doesn’t even get into the environmental concerns that I was harping on about a year ago but we threw in some more moral decay for you.

If this election report was the Mueller report, it would have to name Steve Bannon and Roger Stone and Rudy Giuliani, Ron Johnson and the House Clown Caucus, Jack Posobiec and Mike Cernovich, OAN and the New York Post and Gateway Pundit and Fox News, the former president and his idiot son, and so many others. It would have to name all the people yucking it up with Kremlin agents in cigar bars and naked saunas, all the “journalists” taking Kremlin info and running it for American audiences (...)

Reducing Workplace Injuries
Protecting Workers' Safety and Well-being with Collaborative Robots by our regular columnist James Kew who is the Regional Director of Asia-Pacific Universal Robots. #cobots
By James McKew Automation and robotics are often credited for their increased productivity and efficiency. Various sectors, especially manufacturing, construction and automotive have relied heavily on industrial robots to achieve greater production output. Over the last 30 years, the capabilities of these large and bulky machines improved and transformed countless industrial processes. Built for…

lol.  Three of the BEST people on twitter.  Rick Wilson of Lincoln Project, Lincoln’s Bible, mob expert par excellance, and Molly McKew, one of the best minds out there.  Add Eric Garland and the inscrutable Ming, and that’s my go-to group to read, plus about 50 others...and i’m not really “on” twitter.  i go to their pages to read what they are posting, in a browser, on a laptop.  No way I could do this shit on a phone.

Five days ago, I would have said that Ukraine is where we must fight the war against Putin. Five days later, I will say that Ukraine is where we can win the war against Putin — deal him a defeat that will not only be the beginning of his end, but show a future Russia that this pursuit of domination is not the way. Ukraine is the fulcrum between the abyss and salvation.

Facebook is inept and cannot manage itself; rapes, murders, genocide, and the election of Republicons result.
In Myanmar, "[w]hile Facebook took down the official accounts of senior Myanmar military leaders in August, the breadth and details of the propaganda campaign — which was hidden behind fake names and sham accounts — went undetected. The campaign, described by five people who asked for anonymity because they feared for their safety, included hundreds of military personnel who created troll accounts and news and celebrity pages on Facebook and then flooded them with incendiary comments and posts timed for peak viewership.
..."The previously unreported actions by Myanmar’s military on Facebook are among the first examples of an authoritarian government’s using the social network against its own people. It is another facet of the disruptive disinformation campaigns that are unfolding on the site. In the past, state-backed Russians and Iranians spread divisive and inflammatory messages through Facebook to people in other countries. In the United States, some domestic groups have now adopted similar tactics ahead of the midterm elections."
***
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/11/technology/fake-news-online-disinformation.html
“'There are now well-developed networks of Americans [other than trump/Fox] targeting other Americans with purposefully designed manipulations,' said Molly McKew, an information warfare researcher at the New Media Frontier, a firm that studies social media.
..."[D]omestic sites are emulating the Russian strategy of 2016 by aggressively creating networks of Facebook pages and accounts — many of them fake — that make it appear as if the ideas they are promoting enjoy widespread popularity, researchers said. The activity is also happening on Twitter, they said.
“'These networks are trying to manipulate people by manufacturing consensus — that’s crossing the line over free speech,' said Ryan Fox, [no connection to trump's Fox,] a co-founder of New Knowledge, a firm that tracks disinformation.
..."Domestic disinformation is harder to root out than foreign disinformation, researchers said, because in many cases it mirrors genuine networks of Americans engaging in free speech online. Social media services can act to remove domestic disinformation only when the American groups that are making and distributing it start to use techniques that violate the companies’ terms of service, such as creating false accounts.
“'Facebook’s tactics are extremely ineffective in stopping these networks of hundreds of Facebook pages and accounts from spreading disinformation,' said Natalie Martinez, a fellow at Media Matters, a nonprofit in Washington that monitors disinformation from conservative American sites."
Facebook does not want external regulation, and divided government may still be too unethical to require it. Facebook itself could resolve some of its global destructiveness by hiring and training about a million more employees to help it clean itself. But that's unlikely to happen either.
There may be yet another solution.
Hello, liberal Millennials! Please kill it. Many others, older, younger, stalked, victimized, data-breached, or anyone who has tried to file a complaint, will pitch in and help.
