Blog #1: Nutrition
If there's a topic about nutrition that piques my interest, It would always be about Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten-free diet. As a student who is very interested in desserts and planning to build my own coffee shop one day, I always wanted to learn more about people who prefer to eat differently so that I can integrate it on my future business someday.
From what I understand, the Vegetarian diet includes a mixture of fruit, vegetables, grains, healthy fats and protein from their diet. People who are Vegetarians don’t eat any kind of meat, poultry, and any kind of seafood. Dairies and eggs on vegetarian diets are optional and depend on what kind of diet you have or follow. Vegan, on the other hand, is a whole new level of vegetarian, vegans don’t eat any kind of product that came from animals in any way. A gluten-free diet is a diet that is essential for managing any disease that is associated with gluten which is the most popular one is the celiac disease.
There are a lot of people who have a different opinion about nutrition today. I think, as of today, nutrition has a very big role in the culinary industry. People who are very much concern about health are everywhere, especially with the number of new diseases that are going rampant. Even some of the well-known restaurant or newly opened restaurant are promoting a nutritious menu.
Searching information online is much faster compare to looking at the library and reading through books, but the only downside of this is, there are a lot of websites that you can’t easily trust. Just typing “Food Nutrition” Google can give you hundreds of results but only a few are credible. I choose “Heart Foundations”  as my credible source website and “BBC” for a website which may not be a credible source.
The “Heart Foundations” website research about improving and preventing heart disease. You can easily find information on their website about what they were doing, what are the histories about their goal and websites. You can also contact them because the website provided an email, a phone number and even their bank account. Heart foundations also give an opportunity for other people to work with them. The website also has important information about heart disease and what healthy foods you can eat in order for you to stay healthy. another thing is, the website provides information about their research and their researchers.
On the other hand, “BBC” is a website that tackles a number of different area such as news, weather, sports etc. Searching online about “Food Nutrition” I found an article on their website entitled “The worlds most nutritious foods” and claimed that those are foods that are calculated and ranked by scientist but didn’t provide the names of the said scientist. Looking through their website, I can’t find the name of the author who wrote the article. you can’t also find any information about the websites and their contact information. Another thing about this website, there are numerous adds that littered the article as you read it.
Looking information online is much better, faster and convenient for people who are too lazy to read books but people should be aware of a website they were visiting is credible or not.
