Welcome to #matthewmondays Matthew’s Gospel chapter 3 part 2   John was on a mission ..... to give us the ultimate invitation.   Isaiah prophesied about John over 700 years earlier. John’s mission was to be lonely, lacked comfort, was unpopular with the authorities and many of the people who heard it – but many heard it and responded. How many of us would take on such a mission if it means sacrificing our comfort, or being unpopular? Paul experienced a similar thing, but counted everything as loss for the surpassing greatness of knowing Jesus.     John’s message of how we are in a dry and inhospitable place, but, God has made a route that is firm underfoot and safe for us to take. One that leads us to God to receive blessings and eternal life. This is a message many of us can identify with and accept. The idea that we have an obligation to remove any obstacles and make the necessary journey with a sense of urgency is, however, the stumbling block that most fail to navigate.   Is this an obstacle for you? Do you stumble at the first problem? Do you think you’ll never make it, so why bother starting?   I would like to reassure you that this route we are offered is described as a place to thresh out issues and problems so that obstacles can be easily identified and removed, as we journey with Jesus day by day.   Travelling on the Way – knowing the Truth – and receiving Life. Do we need to be reminded that Jesus said ‘I am the Way , the Truth and the Life? Wow what an opportunity in this life ‘travelling’ with Jesus, ‘knowing’ Jesus and ‘receiving’ Jesus.   This means John was offering us the ultimate invitation. To know Jesus the King, the Messiah.   His message to us is clear. Jesus loves us and He wants us to know and love Him.   Will you take a step closer to Jesus today and receive this ultimate invitation? Welcome to #matthewmondays John the Baptist makes his entrance ... A man with a mission. Since before he was born, he was filled with the Holy Spirit, called by God with a purpose to tell of the coming Messiah. Wow! What a ministry, you might think, but he endured hardship, discomfort, rejection, imprisonment and his execution. Not such an easy task, and not one that many of us would choose. The most unpopular part of his ministry was his message.   ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.’   Challenging the thoughts, words and deeds of all who would listen. Highlighting how they were leading people away from God and challenging them to stop and turn around and head in the other direction with their life. Go towards God instead of away. Live a life pleasing to Him instead of rebelling against Him.   How would you respond to such a challenge. If you were to hear John’s message today, would it make you think and cause you to act differently? Would it make you realise that your actions can be selfish, rebellious and sinful? Would it remind you that fighting and rebelling against God is useless and harmful to us. Would it prompt you to find forgiveness and peace with God?   Or, does it cause you to harden your heart even further towards Jesus? Even when he endured so much on your behalf?  Remember ... Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them (Romans 4:8).   Remember, this challenge is actually an invitation to find peace, love, forgiveness and receive abundant blessings from God through Christ Jesus.   So who would want to ignore such a wonderful gift?   His Message is clear to us He loves us – and wants you to know Him.
