What do you think about scene where martín almost leaves the bank? The popular interpretation is that he's so depressed that wants to get killed by the police but I thought it was just part of the releasing Gandia plan, I mean, when tokio takes leadership palermo tells the other to be careful and that he thinks about his next move. I don't buy the explanation that Helsinki's hug saved him from suicide, I see it as his move to get himself tied up with the hostages to fuck the others over.
Hi anon! Personally, I didn't see it as "depressed"- I think he was so angry that he lost control over the plan (at that point, rightfully so) that he felt it his right (wrongfully so!) to betray the team because they betrayed him first. He's a very all or nothing kind of guy; he was loyal to them when he considered them "his" people, but when they turned on him, he decided to teach them a lesson.
So he went out, and sure, he'd get killed by the police, but he'd also drag everyone else down in the process (which is his goal). Because without him, they'd probably also get killed/arrested eventually. It was an insanely selfish and dickish move of him, so I've never been a fan of the "poor sad baby just wanted to end his pain" excuse.
And then maybe Helsinki's hug convinced him to not sell everyone out in a heartbeat, because it reminded him that Helsinki and co. weren't to blame for his own issues. Even so, as soon as he got in range of Gandia, he saw another opportunity to teach everyone a lesson (this time, with the intention of being the only one who can "save" them all from Gandia) and went "nah, fuck them all" and then did THAT.
That was my interpretation. But your take is very interesting! I've never thought about it that way, but now I think it actually makes a lot of sense with his character at that specific point in time. Maybe he really was 10 steps ahead and knew someone would try to stop him, and when they stop him, they'd tie him up, which would allow him access to Gandia. Or maybe the moment Helsinki approached him, that new plan formed so he went for Plan B. Sergio's the mastermind of the show, but Martin isn't far behind in terms of genius, so (mostly) everything he does- no matter how much time he spends thinking about it- he does think through thoroughly.
