LIII RoA: Mirrors PT2
Tumblr media
Ok so remember this post
here
Where I talked about mirrors?
Well if you don't heres a short recap. Within the world of RoA, the term mirrors may get thrown around a lot from time to time. "Mirrors" or parodies are things on Elysium that greatly resemble things on earth or at different stages of earths life developmental span.
However the one thing most special about the Mirrored Parodies, that can be found on Elysium, is that its apparent that a person on Earth doesn’t have to be alive for a mirror to form on Elysium. Essentially saying, you can be dead on earth, but there's still a high chance that your parody will still be alive on the adjacent planet.
well because of that concept, I had an interesting idea for another mirror.
a mirror reminiscent of gravestone A mirror of East and West Doroa, the two countries who were in conflict with one another from that movie
but there is a interesting reason for why i wanted to do it
dreamy sigh
Her
Tumblr media
Queen Malta Proving that you don't need to be alive for Elysium to copy your likeness
A Mirror of her stands not as singer in this strange world, but as Queen of East Doroan, trying desperately to keep her state from waging war with her neighbor of West Doroan
But maybe that's not all she stands for. . maybe she also stands as a way for Jigen to correct the mistake he made on earth not being able to protect the real Malta.
When Jigen ultimately learns just how much of a mirror of Earth this new planet actually is, coming across the still alive, mirrored variant of Malta while on a Mission to East Doroan, he see's it as his second chance to fix a past mistake in not doing more to protect her variant on Earth.
It wasn't his fault what happened on Earth, but it never did stop bothering him. . .
if he could save this one. . .maybe the guilt would go away
However there's something interesting about Mirrors.
Within Elysium, it is apparent that Mirrors are linked some way with their counterparts. Meaning that during the time of death on earth their mirrored variants on Elysium would end up experiencing some sort of "episode" where they feel their death.
Only those who know about the mirrors and their concept know what this sudden bought of pain or joy is depending on how they die truly is.
For others, it just appears to them that they had a strange happening occur as it never happens again, however they cant help but to feel. . . .empty. . .like they lost something but they dont know what it is they exactly lost
Like extreme deja vu
and how strange that must be though
whether people know about the mirroring or not, imagining going to a strange place in a strange world and having people look at you with strange eyes
cause for some reason or another
you look familiar
maybe they recognize your mirror and are mistaking you for them.
or maybe in the mirrors case. . .maybe they remember you. . .in some way or another
maybe they remember your warmth
but not your face
entire two examples of this Jigen and Malta and Zenigata and Laura
Malta and Laura's mirrors remember the feeling being in the company of Jigen and Zeni give off, but neither of them can truly place it, its like a pull coming from somewhere
Sorta like a vague sense of familiarity they have when first meeting them, despite having never even interacted with either of their world's Zenigata or jigen
that vague familiarity, but great desire to be close
but its not only them who feel it.
Zeni and Jigen both look at these woman like they are seeing ghosts cause unknown to one woman and known to another, they are seeing ghosts. . ghosts of their failures maybe. . .
And both have to curb themselves now, because deep down part of them knows they are simply mirrors, not the true person they have lost
Their not theirs. . .no matter how strong the pull they feel is.
For Zeni, he curbs because he's afraid. Both out of fear of harming Laura while wearing the armor that has cursed him and also because the moment he got closest to his laura was the same moment he lost her. The instinctual fear of failure eating at him and forcing him to keep his distance.
For Jigen however, coming into contact with Malta's mirror stings especially badly for him because up until that point he was trying to move on from the sting of loosing the only woman who didn't actively try and fuck him over like Ciccolina did. Not to mention even after defeating Yael for the first time, he didn't find comfort in it.
He still felt like he failed her
and it doesn't help that compared to Mirrored!Laura, that Mirrored!Malta seems to know a lot more about the Realmwalkers and Mirrorings then many others Jigens come into contact with seem to know.
which means there's a big chance that she knows how she died. . .and somehow, she knows Jigen was there too. . .
maybe that's why Jigen originally tried to keep his distance the best he can from her mirror. . .cause he's afraid she's angry with him. . .for whatever reason she has to be,
lord knows he's been angry enough with himself following her passing
It wasn't his fault what happened on Earth, he did try to make amends for it, and in many ways he did, but it never did stop bothering him. . .
So when the pull refuses to go away, and he finds himself more drawn to her, Jigen begins to figure. . .that if he could save this one. . .maybe the guilt would go away

so, where's lupin and his gang?
Trying to survive xD Ok ok, if you want a Serious answer, the gang are actually stuck on the continent Arkael, stylized as Ar’kael, on the Western side of Elysium. While not the largest continent on the planet, its is a truly mysterious place
. . .mostly because half of its history is missing

LIII RoA: Mirrors
Within the world of RoA, the term mirrors may get thrown around a lot from time to time. And the reason for this is most important.
The world of RoA, takes place on a planet known as Elysium. However while the planet itself is remarkably interesting, being nearly 3 times the size of Earth, it's what it is comprised of that makes it even doubly interesting. Of all the things on the planet, perhaps the most interesting thing about Elysium, is many things are comprised of "mirrors" or parodies of things OF earth at different stages of earths life developmental span.
For example, Elysium is believed by many to have gone through the same developmental stages of Evolution as what was seen on earth during its early years.
As such, Dinosaurs, for example, still roam the planet, nearly exact copies as the one's found on earth. However, while the first animal appeared during the Triassic period on earth, some 231.4 million years ago, and were the dominant land animals on earth for more than 135 million years from the start of the Jurassic period until the end of the Cretaceous - when some sort of ‘extinction event’ led to the extinction of most dinosaur groups, in the world of Elysium, dinosaurs have gotten a second chance in life and have become one of the more prolific creatures found amongst the continents of the world.
This is because unlike on Earth, its mirror sister Elysium, while it follows much of the same routes and timelines as earth did, does not always follow the same pathway. Certain major events never transpired, such as in this case, the mass-extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs on earth, allowing Elysium to be what earth is not, a planet where Dinosaurs still evolved and roam.
But despite the fauna being similar to that on earth, it is not only them. Continents on the planet always resemble continents of earth, but are less of a straight mirror and more of the equivalent of a fun house mirror. This has lead to what is known by Realm-walkers as the "Fun House Mirror" theory.
By definition, A distorting mirror, funhouse mirror or carnival mirror is a popular attraction at carnivals and fairs, where as instead of a normal plane mirror that reflects a perfect mirrored image, distorting mirrors are curved mirrors, often using convex and concave sections to achieve the distorted effect
Elysium works the same way.
While basically establishing itself as "Earth 2" with many jarring similarities to it's counterpart; it, much like a fun house mirror, is distorted and not a perfectly mirrored image as Earth, allowing it to be so different that unless one is to squint, you may not even notice the similarities.
For example:
The continent of Gudeth is supposed to stand as Elysium's Europe, with northern territories being very reminiscent of post- medieval/Gothic Victorian-era europe which was prevalent on Earth from the late 12th to the 16th century, during the High and Late Middle Ages, surviving into the 17th and 18th centuries in some areas. However it should be noted that for some Unknown to Outsiders reasoning, that the Northern territories of Gudeth, seem to be experiencing a Boom for some reason or another, making it much more advanced then other places on Elysium.
A more southern territory, Senko appears to be similarly based around Japan during the beginning of it's Edo-Period, somewhere between 1603 – 1868.
But while the world itself is interesting in how it parodies instances of earths history, it should also be noted that the parodies do not stop there
Some characters in the world are also mirrors of people from earth.
Basically meaning this world has its own variant of Lupin, Jigen, Fujiko, Yata, Zenigata and a plethora of other people as well, roaming its lands. But as stated before however, it's them but its not truly them. Similar to the "Fun-House" mirror theory, they are different enough to be their own people but if you squint long enough, you begin to notice something is terrible different about them.
Some characters include:
Eon’Omam (artificer, elf): Corrupt noble operating gambling and racketeering rings out of Sol-Impala’s underbelly in order to fund his experiments. Bears an uncanny resemblance to Kyosuke Mamo, a scientist and time-traveler with great disdain for Lupin and his colleagues.
Tumblr media
The main antagonist of Fujiko and Goemon’s arc. In month 1, he becomes the target of Fujiko’s first major con in the city after he confronts and threatens her and Goemon for inadvertently meddling in his business
Commandant Nyx (rogue/barbarian, wildhunt (wgte) shifter (rat)): Leader of Sol-Impala’s military and guard force. Nearly identical to Justin “Nyx” Person, an ex-agent of MI6 that had fought against (and eventually with) Lupin.
Tumblr media
Fujiko and Goemon encounter him briefly while pursuing their con on Eon’Omam. He becomes more involved when Lupin reunites with Goemon and Fujiko and all three of them case Sol-Impala’s artifact vault (and are promptly caught and chased out). All five face him one last time during the final heist.
However what makes this jarring, is that it appears that a person on Earth doesn't have to be alive for a mirror to form on Elysium
for example: A woman Zenigata and Jigen save from a public lynching spectacle, Koe, shortly after arriving on Elysiums continent Arkael, possesses a strikingly similar appearance to Laura Jaws, a woman that Zenigata had fallen deeply in love with who had been tragically killed.
Tumblr media
She is the catalyst of Jigen and Zenigata’s arc in month 2.

In the beginning, there was only Chaos, and thus Chaos created everything.
This chaos dubbed The Great Black, or Great Maw was the original void and orderless state of the universe and is often sometimes considered a Primordial god, one of the first to ever come into fruition in the beginning of everything.
In the time before the titans, before the gods, The Great Maw had children, The Primordial, the first entities born into existence in this bed of darkness. Order-less just like their creator, these primordial beings spent a large amount of time fighting amongst themselves.
During one fight, a large bang came into creation, a brightly shining mess taking the form of a billion small star-like fragments. Amidst the emptiness in a far corner of the universe, a handful of these shards combined and churned themselves into what would be known to the inhabitants of it as Elysium
And within this planet, a strange and magnificent energy surged forward, becoming what many would dub Magic
But this magic, the first of its kind, brutish and unstable, caused the planet to churn and boil and within the boil came the first Titans, erupting from the crust in a heave in the form of beasts of tremendous size. The titans awoke to the sound of their familiars warring, and embodying the same chaotic energy as their forefathers, the titans began to fight amongst themselves . The battles raged for centuries, until even the ritual of night and day became affected.
Those of elemental magic turned the fledgling planet into chaos. Water and Air warred firstly, stirring up roiling, violent storms. The cataclysmic energy created by their relentless attacks made the clouds themselves swell with anger. It was not long until the charged mass expelled a horrendous cascade of electric tempests.
On the other side of the world, Earth and Fire smashed the landscape into pieces. Each broken mountain or fractured plain only riled the Titan's into deeper rage. With one great heave of its front leg, One titan sent the entire planet wobbling in its orbit, and to this day has remained at an irregular tilt. Emboldened by the sudden disorientation, the one of fire beckoned several magma vents into existence, shattering the crust and spewing voluminous smoke billows into the atmosphere. This brash action blotted out the sun, plunging the southern hemisphere into an impenetrable darkness, causing a chill that the world had never experienced. Unbeknownst to the combatants, an isolated island on the bottom of the world began to freeze over, frigid ice sheets expanding their size at a rapid pace.
As the beings clashed, the force of their magical essences were kicked up and from them themselves, they sired unknowingly more titans. But these titan's were different from their parents. They peeked at the confrontations from deep, dark pockets in the land, judging each of the others as they tumbled and ruined what little was left of the infant planet; Mountains had crumbled, oceans had soured or dried up. Volcanic fault lines ruined much of the surface, and thunder rolled across the sky. Snow drifted in places it had never fallen.
Humbled and embarrassed by the state of the image that surrounded them, the younger titan's, wishing for a land of their own, joined forces with each other. Around them, they took pity on the poor planet, which had already seen its darkest days and what little life that existed had not even been given the chance to thrive. At some point in time, they overthrew and slayed their parents, and at last the warring had ended.
But all was not finished. If the scarred flanks of the young world were ever to heal, they would do so on their own, unmarred by the omnipotence of the gods who had done nothing but harm it in its short life.
So taking once more to the heavens, The young titan's used the last of their remaining strength to blanket the planet with their bodies as a shield strong enough to protect it should the warring of their familiars ever reach the healing planet.
And as time has shown over and over, if given the chance it heals everything. And it became true as over time the wounds of past battles began to heal. And while the land did not flourish it thrived in its own ways, cracks filled themselves in, burns soothed and the land filled in its gaping wounds as time marched on.
As time marched ever forwards into the eons, the Children slowly woke from their long sleep. Sensing change they landed on the planet once more, and pleased with how much it healed, began to mold the planet. Heaving slabs of stone into mountains and valleys, they all began slowly molding a diverse landscape across the surface of the planet. With the planet molded, they looked around for they knew there was much more work to be done.
With individual parts of their body, they set forth the creation of various beasts who would soon become the ancestors of the planet's future inhabitants. At first these creatures were similar in look and design, but then as if eager to proudly display their emergence, these beings took on forms, each one taking on a distinct shape and an element of their own.
And soon they had their children, and their children had children and the world was new
and thus the world healed and thus the world was new again

It seems that everywhere you find a group of humans, you'll find a clan of rats hiding in the shadows. This history seems born out of opportunity for the rat, but human's have done their part to help them get around the world rather easily. This commensalism - a relationship where one species benefits, but the other receives little or no harm - is probably the result of the sloppy nature of humans. The flagship rat species, Rattus Rattus, once originated in India, and while some of its cousins hung around on forest edges and fields, many found a living chasing down humans and loitering around their encampments for scraps. In more modern times, Rats are everywhere – at least everywhere that humans are. In almost every big city in the world, rats are eating human rubbish, breeding in human buildings, and running through city streets.

Horse and man have long been partners in survival, and this remains true in this strange world. Similar to like on earth, Horses can be found in many parts of Elysium and are a staple animal species and one of the most reliable forms of transportation. Tending to grow more quickly than most mounts found on Elysium and being more easily trained than Elysium beasts of burden, they rapidly became a common sight in most cultures, although most military applications still standardize more convoluted mounts.

Devilboar (Sus aggressivus – "aggressive pig") are a species of animal that lives up to its reputation. The largest member of the pig family to date, and one of the largest swine one can encounter in Arkael, the Devil Boar is a foul tempered, angry swine that can be found all across the world. Wide-ranging and strong in numbers, they have been known to form large herds. Their meat is harvested for consumption, although it is said to be an acquired taste.

The Firelance, also known as a Gunlance is a new age take on an old age weapon. What could best be described as the modern day cousin to the medieval Lance, the Firelance is designed entirely off of the ancient weapon of the same name, which was the first true gunpowder weapon and the ancestor of many modern firearms. However, unlike the Lance of pre-revolution Arkael, Post-revolution Firelances retain an almost gun like design and compared to the Lance, the Firelance is a unique weapon that is quite different from its brother.

In a world where magic, monsters, and arcane weaponry all exist, it's often hard to imagine something as simplistic yet filled with ingenuity as a Firearm would ever find a home in the world, yet alone a nice little niche among the populace. The introduction of projectiles propelled by things other than just pure muscle power and mind-tricks introduced a whole wreath of possibilities.

Cattle are a cornerstone of human civilization. From meat, leather, and milk, they provide the lifeblood for countless civilizations up to the modern day. However, like all domesticated animals, they started out as wild animals. The descendant of all modern cattle was the Aurochs, Bos primigenius. On Elysium the Arkaelean Taurus has that title

Compared to prehistoric bear species, modern bears are relatively tame. Then again, today’s earth bruins don’t have to carve out territory from other terrifying predators such as saber-toothed cats, packs of dire wolves, cave lions, and even massive carnivorous, cow-sized pigs that were more likely to charge you—and eat you—then run away.
However, on Arkael. . that may not be the case anymore. . .
