#Like I don't think it's consistent for all of G1 but most of the main cast had strong personal styles

Sorry just looking back at it, I really do think G3 sacrificed having good fashion in order to have good character design. Which like, if it was just the cartoons they were rebooting, then like sure. But all I'm saying if any other doll brand in the year of our lord 2023/2022 come out with tye-die shorts with frills we would have laughed them off the market but it's Monster High so it's fine
I think it succeeds a lot at times, for example, no matter how much I don't like G3 Clawdeen, not gonna lie, they really got that 'quirky protag girl' vibe incredibly well with her. Or how the G3 Werecat Twins personalities show so strongly though their designs, but dear god WTF is Meowlody wearing.
But on the other hand it's not like good character design and fashion are antithetical to each other. Like not only was this the reason G1 Monster High got so popular (that and it's gothicism) but G3 HAS put out nice looking fashion pieces before!

I just read all of Deal with the Devil in one go and it has changed me. I’ve never read a fic about these two before but. I. Am. Sold. It also made me realize I had a competency kink 🤔 LOL. Ik this was set in G1 but do you have a preference for which continuity you ship these two???
lol i am right there with you on the competency thing. two people who are very good at what they do going against each other or working together? an all time #1 trope for me
for continuity preferences:
definitely cartoon flavoured G1 for me as a writer. i really enjoy how the cartoon offers a solid foundation to build off of, but also has plenty of undefined room i can do my own thing in - like in terms of characterisation, soundwave's loyalty is a consistent part of what makes him Him in most tf media but in the other continuities i'm most familiar with, tfp and idw, they're more specific about it. in idw, soundwave's loyalty is nailed down as being to The Cause, and although it's not as clearly stated in tfp i'm of the opinion that the con's cause is shown to have changed so much over time that his loyalty must be to megatron as a person. the 80s cartoon by contrast never really gets into it, so i'm free to do whichever (or neither! or he's equally invested in both!) makes the story more interesting. the idw continuity is a close runner up tho! god, there is just so much interesting stuff going on there, from the stuff that makes me sure some of these writers studied sociology at uni (the stuff i did with the Ravir in DwtD was inspired by functionism, but as an outsider's perspective on an intensely role based, You Are What You Do society rather than the usual insider's one) to idw jazz who i love dearly. i'm pretty much always pulling on idw jazz's characterisation when i write him
as a reader, i don't really have any preferences! i think lots of continuities offer lots of opportunity for interesting jazzwave dynamics (limited mainly by whether jazz shows up in canon, lol. hasbro pls let this dude be a main character again my crops are dying)
