Story Event from his perspective: "You are still my beloved, though you've forgotten the past"
Yoichi's Route: Chapter 2
Please note that this story event route has minor spoilers for Yoichi's main story!
← Chapter 1
✧ part one
Yoichi: What if we tried “asking your body”?
Yoshino: What…?
Yoichi: Hm?
Yoichi: (Oh… Did she get the wrong idea?)
Upon seeing the flustered look on her face, he realized that she must have misunderstood what he meant.
Tumblr media
Yoichi: Don’t worry. I didn’t mean anything weird.
Yoichi: I just thought that maybe it could help you get your memory back if you were exposed to familiar sights and sounds and all that.
Yoshino: I… I see.
Yoshino relaxed, her expression changing into one of relief and slight embarrassment.
Yoichi: (Now that I think about it, the way I said it was probably easy to misunderstand.)
But Yoichi couldn’t help but find her initial response endearing.
Yoichi: You should get some sleep once you’ve finished eating. You must be tired, yeah?
Yoshino: Yes, a bit… Thank you very much.
Tumblr media
Yoichi: No problem.
Yoichi unintentionally let out a quiet laugh.
Yoichi: (Yoshino’s still confused and on guard around me. Explaining everything to her at once would probably do more harm than good.)
If Yoichi told her that he and the others were members of the rebel army,
It would most likely cause her even more anxiety.
Yoichi: (For now, I’ll just let her get some rest. She needs it.)
Yoichi: (I can’t tell her the full truth yet… Not until I’ve earned her trust.)
✧ part two
Yoichi: (For now, I’ll just let her get some rest. She needs it.)
Yoichi: (I can’t tell her the full truth yet… Not until I’ve earned her trust.)
Yoichi: Just call for me if you need anything. G’night.
Yoshino: Oh, okay. Have a good night.
Once he’d left the room, Yoichi summoned one of his own subordinates.
Yoichi: Keep an eye on Yoshino. Make sure she doesn’t leave her room.
Soldier: Yes, sir.
Yoichi: (I don’t think she’ll leave, but it’s just a precaution so she doesn’t wander off and get lost.)
He parted with his subordinate and walked for a while by himself.
In the silence of his solitude, a sigh escaped from his lips.
Yoichi: (There’s nothing that can be done. Yoshino didn’t want to forget her memories, either.)
Tumblr media
Yoichi: (But it’s still pretty hard to stomach.)
Yoichi: (For her to look at me like she doesn’t even know who I am…)
From the moment she had lost her memory up until now, he would feel a sharp pain in his chest as soon as he was no longer distracted by other matters.
Yoichi: Well, I’m sure her memory’s gonna come back sometime, somehow.
Yoichi: …But I’d rather have it brought back because of me instead of Benkei’s cooking.
He laughed to himself over his own heartbreak.
And he kept his feelings for Yoshino to himself within his heart.
A few days later—
Yoichi had thought of all sorts of ideas to help Yoshino regain her memory, and he decided to try them out.
Tumblr media
Yoichi: I bet appealing to your senses is gonna be the best way to get your memory back.
Yoichi: So how about we spend some more time together from today on?
✧ part three
Yoichi: I bet appealing to your senses is gonna be the best way to get your memory back.
Yoichi: So how about we spend some more time together from today on?
Yoshino: Together…?
Yoichi: Mhm. And I mean as much time as possible. You can just relax and take it easy with me. How do you like the sound of that?
Yoshino: I… I guess that’s alright…
As per his proposal, Yoichi spent whatever free time he had together with Yoshino.
He took her out all around the town of Hiraizumi…
Murmured affectionate words to her whenever they passed by each other, and…
Yoichi: Here you go. Say aaa~
Yoshino: I-I can feed myself…!!
Yoichi: Don’t be so cold. Do you not like it?
Yoshino: Huh…? It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just…
Yoichi: (“Not that I don’t like it,” huh? She’s so sweet.)
Despite being disoriented and guarded around Yoichi, Yoshino still went along with all of his suggestions—a testament to how good-natured she was.
Yoichi: (...I think she’s always been like that. Some things must never change.)
But despite his efforts, more time went by with no progress.

Sueharu: It’s been half a month since then. And there’s still no signs that her memory will come back?
✧ part four
Sueharu: It’s been half a month since then. And there's still no signs that her memory will come back?
Yoichi: Yeah. I guess we’re going to be playing the long game.
Benkei: Don’t get too worked up over it.
Yoichi’s comrades tried to cheer him up from time to time, knowing that the situation wasn’t improving whatsoever.
Yoichi: (I’m not worked up over it, but I…)
Yoichi: (Ugh. Maybe I should do some pottery for a change and get this off my mind.)
But Yoichi’s thoughts naturally drifted towards Yoshino as he threw clay alone in a workroom on the grounds of the estate.
Tumblr media
Yoichi: (I shouldn’t be impatient. I know.)
He’d been telling himself those words for a long time.
But in the last half-month, having seen no signs that Yoshino would regain her memory,
The impatience and loneliness that pierced his heart had become more painful with every passing day.
Yoichi: (Hm… Lately I haven’t been training as much as I should, either.)
Once he had finished throwing the vessel he’d been working on, he looked up and saw Yoshino peeking at him from between the sliding doors.
Yoichi: Yo. What’s up? Did you get lost?
Yoshino: No, I’ve learned how to get around the manor by now.
Yoshino: I just… I noticed that you never showed up today, so I got a little worried.
Yoichi: (Ah, I’ve spent every day by her side up until today… So she came looking for me this time?)
That she had noticed his absence was a trivial thing, but it made him strangely happy.
Yoichi: (...Oh, man. This is getting bad.)
He realized that he had fallen in love with Yoshino all over again, when…
Yoshino: That’s so pretty. Is it ceramic art?
Yoshino gazed in wonder at what Yoichi had made on the potter’s wheel.
Yoshino: I can’t imagine how you’d make something like that. How do you know how to do that, Yoichi-san?
Tumblr media
Yoichi: As a matter of fact, I’m a potter.
Yoshino: Really? That doesn’t seem right…
He smiled at the sight of the understandably suspicious look in her eyes.
Yoichi: Since you’ve come all this way over to my workroom, do you want to give pottery a try?
Yoichi: Is that really okay? Then…
Yoichi had Yoshino sit in front of the potter’s wheel and moved to stand behind her.
Yoshino: Oh…
As he put his arms around her from behind and turned the wheel for her, he could feel her body tense up against his own.
Yoichi: (Hmm…? Is she conscious of how close I am?)
✧ part five
Yoichi: (Hmm…? Is she conscious of how close I am?)
Yoichi: (...We did this once, a long time ago, before we got together.)
Nostalgic memories suddenly sprung to his mind.
However, there was no change in Yoshino’s reaction—she didn’t seem to recall anything of the memories they had shared.
Tumblr media
Yoichi: (...I guess I’m the only one who remembers it now.)
Yoichi: (Maybe it’s just going to be like this forever.)
But now that he’d spent so much time with Yoshino after she’d lost her memories, a new thought had begun to take root in his mind.
Yoichi: (If she never regains her memory, it might be a good thing.)
Yoichi: (...She won’t be caught up in the affairs of the rebel army or the shogunate, or have to engage in battle. All of that weight would be off of her shoulders.)
Yoichi: (She could just live a peaceful life as an ordinary doctor.)
Yoichi: (In that case, she should just forget about me…)
Yoshino: …Wah!
The clay had begun to nicely take the shape of a vessel in her hands, but then all of a sudden, it went limp and collapsed.
Yoichi: Whoops. My bad.
Yoichi: No, no! It’s just so hard to do! It seems like you need a lot of concentration to make pottery.
Yoshino: But I think I’ll do better the next time I try it!
Yoichi: (...)
Though she had failed, Yoshino’s eyes sparkled with joy as she turned around and looked at Yoichi.
Yoichi: (Even though I’m no longer in your memory, your smile is still the same… So bright and dazzling.)
Yoichi: (That’s why…)
Yoichi: (You can live a happy life without me.)
He felt an unbearable pain in his chest, as though his heart had been squeezed tightly.
And before he knew it—
Tumblr media
Yoichi: Hey. Can I tell you something?
Yoichi: To tell you the truth, what I said about how we were in love… It was just a lie.
He murmured those words.
