LG to unveil world's largest 97-inch OLED TV at IFA 2022

LG Electronics said on Monday it will showcase the world's largest organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV at the upcoming electronics show in Berlin, as it looks to expand its portfolio of large OLED TVs and solidify its leadership in the premium TV segment. LG said it will unveil a 97-inch OLED TV, or the OLED evo Gallery Edition, among others, at the IFA 2022, set to open on Friday in Germany. The South Korean tech company said the model will be available in the market in the fourth quarter, the peak season for consumer electronics and home appliances amid holiday shopping. With the arrival of its biggest-ever screen size, LG's OLED TV lineup for this year offers 42, 48, 55, 65, 77, 83, 88 and 97-inch options, reports Yonhap news agency. OLED TVs' self-lit pixels can be turned on and off individually, leading to innovative form factors, such as flexible and rollable TVs, LG said. The global electronics trade show will come at a time when global tech companies have been struggling to combat lacklustre consumer demand after two years of a pandemic-fuelled surge in demand for personal devices and home appliances. LG OLED C2 im Test: Dieser Fernseher ist die beste Wahl!

Der neue LG OLED C2 ist nicht der teuerste Fernseher des Herstellers, aber der interessanteste. Dass LG sehr gute Fernseher bauen kann, hat zuletzt das Modell OLED G2 im Test bewiesen: Bessere Bildqualität ist derzeit kaum zu haben, hinzu kommen eine komplette Ausstattung, ein innovatives Bedienkonzept und ein überdurchschnittlich guter Ton. Der neue LG OLED C2 wartet mit ganz ähnlichen Daten und Features auf, ist aber merklich günstiger. Außerdem gibt es ihn in einer größeren Varianten-Vielfalt als andere Modelle. Wo liegen die Unterschiede zwischen G2 und C2? Wie unterscheiden sich die verschiedenen Varianten C27LA, C28LB und C29LD? Und wo liegen die Stärken und Schwächen im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz? LG OLED C2 und seine Varianten C27LA, C28LB & C29LD Was hier im Test kurz LG OLED C2 heißt, ist eine ganze Modellfamilie mit etlichen Varianten. Die sind an den Ziffern und Buchstaben hinter dem C2 zu erkennen. Im Test war der LG OLED C27LA. Das Schwestermodell LG OLED C28LB unterscheidet sich nur in marginalen Äußerlichkeiten wie den Grautönen der Standfüße. Das Design ist bei allen Modellen gleich und aus allen Perspektiven sehenswert: Den Bildschirm fasst ein dünner Metallrand ein. Von vorne ist der kaum zu sehen, seitlich ist er 6 Millimeter schmal. Die Rückseite aus dezent strukturiertem Kunststoff soll gegenüber der Metallrückwand der Vorgänger genauso stabil sein, sie half aber beim Abspecken um rund 6 Kilogramm. Das erleichtert im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes die Wandmontage, mit 21 Kilogramm erfordert selbst der 77-Zöller keine Schwerlastdübel. Für die Anschlüsse und die Lautsprecher ist der Fernseher im unteren Bereich dicker, mit 4,8 Zentimetern aber immer noch einigermaßen schlank. OLED evo der neuesten Generation Alles andere als abgespeckt hat LG bei der Bildschirmtechnik. Das Funktionsprinzip ist bei allen OLEDs gleich: Für jeden einzelnen Bildpunkt gibt es winzige Leuchtdioden, sodass sich Pixel für Pixel jede beliebige Farbe in jeder beliebigen Helligkeitsabstufung erzeugen lässt. Bei der heute üblichen UHD-Auflösung sind es 3840x2160 Pixel, also gut 8 Megapixel. Möglich sind so winzige Leuchtdioden durch die Verwendung organischer Leuchtstoffe, daher auch das Kürzel OLED. Der führende OLED-Produzent LG Display, ein Schwesterunternehmen des TV-Herstellers LG Electronics, mischte für die neueste OLED-Generation eine neue Leuchtsubstanz, mit der sich eine höhere Lichtausbeute erzielen lässt. Bei den LG-Fernsehern läuft das unter dem Namen OLED evo, der Hersteller verspricht bis zu 20 Prozent hellere Bilder. LG OLED C2 im Test-Labor Ob der neue LG OLED C2 das Versprechen hält, musste er im Test-Labor unter Beweis stellen. Da erreichte er tatsächlich die 20 Prozent, allerdings im sonst weniger erquicklichen Bildmodus "Lebendig" mit kühlen und grellen Farben. Stellt man den Fernseher auf gute Film- und Fernsehbilder ein (siehe Tipps weiter unten), bleibt ein immer noch beachtliches Plus von 10 Prozent. Bis zu 780 Candela pro Quadratmeter bedeutet das im Klartext beim 77-Zoll-Modell, 790 Candela beim 65-Zöller – ein vernachlässigbarer Unterschied im Rahmen der Serienstreuung. Wenige OLED-TVs wie der LG OLED G2 und der Panasonic JZW2004 erreichen mit aufwendigerer Wärmeabfuhr noch mal gut 10 Prozent mehr, sind aber auch ein ganzes Stück teurer. Was dem C2 für maximale HDR-Brillanz fehlt, also für Filme mit zum Teil noch höherer Maximalhelligkeit, passt der Fernseher sehr gekonnt mit sogenanntem Tone-Mapping an. Die Helligkeitsabstufungen fallen damit kurz vor der Maximalhelligkeit zunehmend enger aus. Das Ergebnis: Es geht keinerlei Zeichnung verloren, im strahlenden Himmel etwa sind noch Wolken zu erkennen. Das zählt zu den markantesten Unterschieden gegenüber Konkurrenten und Vorgängermodellen. LG OLED C2 im Test: So gut ist die Bildqualität Ein makelloses Bild gab der LG OLED C2 außerdem am anderen Ende des Helligkeitsspektrums ab: Tiefes Schwarz können OLED-Fernseher ohnehin perfekt darstellen, dazu knipsen sie einfach ihre selbstleuchtenden Pixel an entsprechenden Stellen aus – weniger Licht und damit tieferes Schwarz geht nicht. LCD-Fernseher dagegen arbeiten mit mehr oder weniger lichtdurchlässigen Pixeln, die eine Lichtquelle dahinter durchleuchtet. Doch selbst durch undurchsichtig geschaltete Pixel schimmert immer etwas von diesem Backlight durch. Schon eine winzige Spur genügt, um den Filmbildern Tiefe und Klarheit zu nehmen. Für den LG OLED C2 waren außerdem die dunkelsten Nuancen oberhalb von Schwarz kein Problem. Ob Weltraumszenen oder langsames Aus- und Einblenden: Da waren keine irritierenden Helligkeitssprünge zu sehen oder messbar. Standbilder im Test kein Problem Einige OLED-typische Eigenheiten sind auch dem LG OLED C2 nicht fremd. So fällt das Bild dunkler aus, wenn es komplett weiß sein soll. Wintersport sieht daher weniger brillant aus als auf ähnlich teuren LCD-Konkurrenten. Das bei OLED-Fernsehern gefürchtete Einbrennen ist dagegen weniger ein Thema. Zwar können dauerhafte Standbilder bleibende Spuren auf dem Bildschirm hinterlassen, im Test verschwanden aber die schemenhaften Reste der über längere Zeit abgespielten Testbilder sehr schnell wieder. Ab Werk sind zudem verschiedene Mechanismen gegen solche Einbrenneffekte aktiviert: Der Fernseher bewegt das Bild unmerklich langsam um einige Pixel und reduziert den Kontrast von Senderlogos. Mit diesen Vorkehrungen sind in der Praxis keine Probleme zu erwarten, auch nicht bei der Nutzung mit einer Spielekonsole. Die Farben zeigt keiner besser Zu den Stärken von OLED-Fernsehern zählt außerdem die Farbwiedergabe. Für den LG OLED C2 gilt das besonders, denn im Test gab er Farben so korrekt wie nur wenige andere Fernseher wieder. Die Messergebnisse fielen auch hier für beide Bildschirmgrößen annähernd gleich aus, in beiden Fällen stimmten auch die kritischen Haut- und Zwischentöne mustergültig. Selbst das erweiterte HDR-Farbspektrum moderner Kino- und Streaming-Produktionen konnte der C2 im Test zu über 99 Prozent wiedergeben, besser geht es nicht. Perfektionisten können den LG OLED C2 kalibrieren lassen, mit ihrer Schnittstelle zur Software Calman und über 30.000 Korrekturpunkten bieten die LG-OLEDs die besten Voraussetzungen dafür. Hinzu kommt eine hohe Blickwinkelstabilität: Die Farben bleichen nicht aus und verändern sich kaum, wenn man von der Seite aus auf den Fernseher guckt. Hilfreich für den Alltag ist die gute Entspiegelung. Damit ist der LG OLED C2 tageslichttauglich, es sollte nur kein Fenster und keine andere Lichtquelle direkt gegenüber liegen. Die besten Bildeinstellungen für den LG OLED C2 Wie frühere OLED-Fernseher von LG und wie auch das Modell OLED G2 erreicht auch der OLED C2 seine Topform fast aus dem Stand und ohne komplizierte Menüeinstellungen. Dabei kommt es im Wesentlichen auf den richtig gewählten Bildmodus an. Alles Weitere ist beinahe Nebensache und häufig auch Geschmacksache. Die Empfehlungen von COMPUTER BILD für einen natürlichen Bildeindruck: Bildmodus: Wie üblich bei LG-Fernsehern ist das der Filmmaker Mode. Farben, Helligkeit und Graustufen sind damit ab Werk perfekt eingestellt, in diesem Modus erfolgten im Test die Messungen und Sichttests. Ganz wichtig: Die Einstellung des Bildmodus ist jeweils separat erforderlich für TV-Wiedergabe, HDMI-Quellen und für Streaming mit den auf dem Fernseher installierten Apps. Außerdem ist für HDR-Wiedergabe erneut der Wechsel vom Standard-Modus auf Filmmaker Mode fällig. Anschließend merkt sich der Fernseher diese Wahl. Unterhalb des Menüpunktes für den Bildmodus geht es in die Erweiterten Einstellungen für Fein-Tuning ganz nach Geschmack: Helligkeit: Die Option Größte Helligkeit lässt normale TV-Sendungen und Filme ohne HDR-Technik brillanter aussehen. Wählen Sie nach Geschmack Niedrig oder Mittel, die höchste Einstellung dagegen führt zu leicht überstrahlten Bildern. HDR Tone Mapping: Damit passt der Fernseher den Kontrast ständig an die laufenden Bilder an, um ein Absaufen in dunklen Szenen und Überstrahlen in hellen Bildbereichen zu vermeiden. Alle anderen Unterpunkte bleiben in Werkseinstellung. Farbe: Hier können alle Einstellungen unverändert bleiben, ohne technische Hilfsmittel lassen sich keine Verbesserungen erzielen. Klarheit: Mit Rauschunterdrückung Automatisch und MPEG-Rauschunterdrückung Automatisch reduziert der G2 grieseliges Bildrauschen und glättet Bildklötzchen, ohne dass gleich Filmkorn oder Texturen verschwinden. Glatte Abstufung Mittel bügelt unschöne Farb- und Helligkeitsstufen in Verläufen wie bei Abendhimmeln aus. Darunter folgt der Menüpunkt True Motion zur Bewegungsglättung: Die Option Filmische Bewegung belässt es bei den 24 Film-Bildern pro Sekunde und korrigiert nur holprige Bewegungsabläufe. Die Einstellung Glatte Bewegung berechnet Zwischenbilder, sodass Bewegungen flüssig ablaufen. Das gelang dem LG im Test ohne nennenswerte Artefakte – da darf der Geschmack entscheiden. Der Menüpunkt Nutzerauswahl erlaubt manuelle Feineinstellung zum Entruckeln und für gesteigerte Bewegungsschärfe. Mit OLED Motion fügt der Fernseher blitzschnelle Schwarzphasen ein, um in Bewegungen den Schärfeeindruck zu erhöhen. Das kostet Bildhelligkeit und kann leicht flimmern, die verbesserte Bewegungsschärfe fällt hingegen nur geübten Zuschauern aus sehr kurzer Distanz auf. Im Test blieb diese Option daher abgeschaltet. Filmmaker-Modus Auto-Einstellung: Dieser Schalter ist nur interessant, wenn Sie grundsätzlich einen anderen Bildmodus als den Filmmaker Mode verwenden – etwa Kino. Dann bewirkt die Auto-Einstellung einen Wechsel, sobald ein per HDMI angeschlossener Zuspieler oder ein Streaming-Dienst einen Spielfilm signalisiert. Zum Stromsparen: Gut versteckter Lichtsensor Der LG OLED C2 kann seine Bildhelligkeit sehr gut an die Umgebung anpassen, allerdings ist diese Option sehr gut im Menü versteckt. Sie findet sich ausgehend vom Hauptmenü im Bereich Allgemein unter OLED-Pflege und dort unter Selbstpflege des Geräts. Da bietet das Untermenü Energiesparen die Option Energiesparschritt. Mit der Einstellung Automatisch ist der Lichtsensor aktiviert. Eine Menüzeile darunter ist die Mindest-Helligkeit einstellbar. Ab Werk ist die etwas funzelig, in Maximaleinstellung gefiel das Bild im Test besser. Darüber hinaus gibt es einige Optionen rund um die künstliche Intelligenz, die finden sich in Allgemein, dort unter AI Dienste. Hier ist in erster Linie die Einstellung der AI-Helligkeit empfehlenswert, eine subtile Tonwertkorrektur passend zur Umgebungshelligkeit. Vorsicht vor Verschlimmbesserungen Darüber hinaus macht LG das Einstellmenü unnötig unübersichtlich. Es wimmelt vor unnötigen Optionen, deren Sinn und Zweck zum Teil auch noch von grotesken Übersetzungen vernebelt ist. So findet sich hinter dem Menüpunkt OLED-Pflege die Option Einstellungen der Bildschirmpflege mit den drei Möglichkeiten "Komfort-Modus", "Kinomodus" und "Kinderpflege Modus" (!). Allen gemein ist, dass sie die oben als mustergültig gelobten Farben verfälschen und die Bildeinstellungen ziemlich willenlos verdrehen. Ähnlicher Humbug ist im Bildmenü die Option Weniger Blaulicht. Die soll vermutlich Menschen beruhigen, die blaue Lichtanteile von Bildschirmen für schädlich halten. Tatsache ist jedenfalls, dass damit das Bild einen fiesen Rotstich bekommt. Solche Klippen gilt es im Menü zu umschiffen. Klang-Tuning bequem per Fernbedienung Für guten Ton wartet der LG OLED C2 mit bewährter Technik auf. Die Lautsprecherausstattung ist unauffällig, in der Unterseite sind zwei Schallwandler versteckt. Um denen möglichst natürlichen und unverfälschten Klang zu entlocken, stattete LG den Fernseher mit einer Einmessautomatik aus. Nach dem Start der Prozedur im Menü (unter AI Dienst und AI Akustikabstimmung) gibt der Fernseher lustig glucksende und tutende Testtöne von sich. Ein Mikrofon in der Fernbedienung erfasst, wie die Töne im Raum klingen, und gibt die Infos an den Fernseher zurück. Der verändert dann seine Einstellungen so, dass am Ende möglichst natürlicher Klang herauskommt. Das funktionierte im Test gut und führte zu merklich klarerer Sprachwiedergabe. Fette Bässe darf man von einem schlanken Fernseher natürlich nicht erwarten. Und noch ein Tipp: Mit abgeschaltetem Dolby Atmos klingt es besser, weil weniger spitz in den Höhen. Anschlüsse auf dem neuesten Stand mit HDMI 2.1 Für besseren Klang ist eine Soundbar oder eine Heimkino-Anlage anschließbar. Dazu gibt einer der vier HDMI-Anschlüsse auch Raumklang inklusive Dolby Atmos aus (eARC, erweiterter Audio Rückkanal). Alternativ gibt es einen optischen Digitalausgang und Bluetooth, nicht aber einen herkömmlichen Kopfhörerausgang. Für bestmögliche Videoübertragung bieten die vier HDMI-Eingänge fast alle Möglichkeiten von HDMI 2.1: 4K-Auflösung ist mit bis zu 120 Bildern und 48 Gigabit pro Sekunde zuspielbar, außerdem mit variablen Bildraten inklusive der Standards AMD FreeSync Premium und Nvidia G-Sync – all das ist vor allem für Gamer wichtig. Schön ist für diese außerdem der Game-Optimizer, ein in einen eigenen Menüpunkt ausgelagertes Einstellmenü mit sinnvollen Optionen zur Bildanpassung. Die Bildverzögerung des Fernsehers (Latenz) fällt bei normaler 60-Hertz-Zuspielung mit 12 Millisekunden erfreulich kurz aus, ein Versatz zwischen Aktionen am Game-Controller und Reaktionen auf dem Bildschirm ist nicht spürbar. Fürs Streaming mit allen wichtigen Apps gerüstet Per Netzwerkanschluss und WLAN gelingt der Zugang zu Mediatheken, YouTube und allen großen Streaming-Anbietern. So gibt es Apps für Amazon Prime Video und Netflix genauso wie für Apple TV, Disney+, Joyn und RTL+. Auch Sport-Anbieter wie DAZN und Magenta Sport sind vertreten sowie Sky mit seinen beiden Angeboten Sky Q und Sky Ticket. Gamer können zudem mit Stadia in der Cloud spielen, Nvidias Geforce Now soll im Laufe des Jahres hinzukommen. Neu für LG-Fernseher ist Multiview zur Darstellung mehrerer Programme gleichzeitig. Das klappt nebeneinander als Bild-in-Bild-Darstellung. Allerdings beschränkt LG die mögliche Auswahl für die beiden Anzeigefenster. So lässt sich beim Fernsehen zusätzlich der Smartphone-Bildschirm spiegeln, nicht aber das Bild vom HDMI-Zuspieler oder von einer App einblenden. Schöne Bilder kosten extra Ebenfalls neu ist ein schöner Hingucker: Bei aktivierter Always-Ready-Funktion (in deutscher Menüversion als "Stets bereit" übersetzt) schaltet sich der Fernseher nach dem ersten Tastendruck nicht sofort aus, stattdessen zeigt er eine Bildergalerie – entweder hinterlegte Gemälde und Grafiken oder von Nutzerinnen und Nutzern per USB oder Smartphone geladene Fotos. Das sieht im Wohnzimmer besser aus als ein schwarzer Bildschirm, allerdings ist der Stromverbrauch dabei nicht unerheblich. Das 77 Zoll große Testgerät genehmigte sich dafür je nach Bildmotiv und Raumhelligkeit zwischen 37 und 200 Watt, bei 65 Zoll bleibt es bei maximal etwa 160 Watt. Ein erneuter Druck auf die Standby-Taste schaltet den Fernseher dann richtig ab. Besser suchen als empfehlen lassen Das Startmenü zeigt die seit letztem Jahr von LG-Fernsehern bekannte Vollbildansicht. Neu ist eine große Schaltfläche oben rechts für die zuletzt genutzte Programmquelle – sehr praktisch. Mit dem Suchfenster daneben lässt sich schnell das Wunschprogramm finden, die Eingabe kann auch per Sprache erfolgen. Außerdem lassen sich nun mehrere Nutzerprofile anlegen, mit denen individuelle Startbildschirme zu sehen sind. Die prominent dargestellten Empfehlungen für Filme und Serien darunter sind nur mäßig hilfreich. LG streut dort munter Werbung etwa für Apps und Dauerwerbesender ein. Immerhin lässt sich die Werbung reduzieren: Dazu schalten Sie im Menü unter Allgemein, System, Zusätzliche Einstellungen und Startseiteneinstellung die Home Promotion aus. Testfazit LG OLED C2 Für verwirrende Menü-Optionen und den fehlenden Kopfhöreranschluss muss der LG OLED C2 Kritik einstecken. Davon abgesehen ist die Testbilanz hervorragend: Die Bildqualität zählt zum Besten überhaupt, die neue OLED-evo-Generation hat noch mal dezent aber sichtbar zugelegt. Ob Spielfilme, Serien, Sport oder Gaming, der OLED C2 sorgt mit seinen perfekten Farben und dem gigantischen Maximalkontrast für optimale Bildeindrücke. Mit dem Ton kann man gut leben, günstige Soundbars sind da keinesfalls besser. Die Ausstattung bietet mit Gaming-tauglichen Anschlüssen, reichlich Streaming-Funktionen und innovativem Bedienkonzept kaum Anlass zur Kritik.
