Corey Johnson, Florida inmate Q91411, born 2000, incarceration intake February 2022 at age 21, sentenced to life
Murder, 3 Counts
Corey Johnson will spend the rest of his life behind bars for fatally stabbing a 13-year-old boy during a 2018 sleepover in Palm Beach Gardens.
The 21-year-old was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Johnson stabbed Jovanni Sierra to death at a home in BallenIsles Country Club on March 12, 2018.
Palm Beach Gardens police said Johnson was a guest of Kyle Bancroft, 15, when he stabbed Sierra several times and slit his throat before attacking Bancroft's 13-year-old brother, Dane Bancroft, and his mother, Elaine Simon, who lived at the home.
Dane Bancroft was stabbed 32 times, while Simon was stabbed a dozen times. Both survived the attack.
During the sentencing hearing, Johnson apologized to the families of the victims, saying he "took the life of an innocent 13-year-old boy in the most heinous and cowardly way possible."
"I wish I could take it back. I wish I could do something to make this right," said Johnson. "But I do want to apologize, not because it will change anything, but because I really, truly am sorry."
Johnson said Sierra "was so young and had so much potential" in life.
"I am truly in disbelief that I could have done something so terrible. That's not who I am, and I'm not a violent person," Johnson said.
Earlier in Thursday's hearing, Sierra's mother and grandmother addressed the court, reflecting on the young teen's life and sending a message to Johnson.
"You committed a crime and now you have to pay for it," Sierra's grandmother told Johnson.
Johnson's grandmother later took the stand and spoke about how Johnson's mother suffered from depression and abused prescription medication. The grandmother testified that Johnson became a loner and would keep to himself at family gatherings.
"He was not hopeful at all and he spent a lot of time alone," Johnson's grandmother said.
During the investigation, Johnson's relatives told police he was fascinated with dictators like Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin and had recently been studying the Quran.
A Jupiter police report revealed that the FBI had met with one of Johnson's friends as part of an investigation into terrorist threats.
According to an arrest affidavit, Johnson told police that Sierra was idolizing famous people and referencing them as gods, which went against his Muslim faith. Johnson also felt Dane Bancroft "made fun of" his Muslim faith, the affidavit said.
Just before the attack, Johnson was reading the Quran from his phone "to give him courage to carry out his intentions," the affidavit said.
During Johnson's trial, his defense team tried to convince jurors that Johnson was not guilty by reason of insanity.

If I’m frightened for women in general I am also frightened for women being raised to accept male “leadership” for religion.
Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager who fatally shot two men and wounded a third during protests in 2020, was paraded as an ideal marriage suitor at a "women's leadership" conference.
The claims were made during the annual Young Women's Leadership Summit, run by conservative organization Turning Point USA, which was held from Thursday, June 2, through Saturday, June 4, in Grapevine, Texas.
Although the conference was billed as promoting women's leadership, much of the advice seemed geared towards encouraging the attendees—who were all of high school or college age—to find a husband to look after them and focus on having babies and becoming homemakers.
And Rittenhouse was unveiled as a potential suitor during the event. The 19-year-old from Antioch, Illinois, was just 17 when he set out armed with a semi-automatic rifle to riots in Kenosha, in the neighboring state of Wisconsin on August 25, 2020.
That night, he shot three people, killing Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and wounding Gaige Grosskreutz, 26. The civil unrest had been sparked by the police shooting of a black man, Jacob Blake, who was left paralyzed from the waist down.
Although Rittenhouse and the men he shot were all white, the case polarized Americans on the issues of race, the Black Lives Matter movement, gun control, and vigilantism. Rittenhouse, who was charged with two counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide, insisted he had only acted in self-defense and he was unanimously found not guilty by a jury at his trial in November 2021.
Just a month after the shootings, video footage emerged which reports alleged showed Rittenhouse repeatedly punching a girl during a scuffle that had broken out between a group of teenagers just weeks before the riots. Newsweek has attempted to contact Rittenhouse about those allegations. The judge barred prosecutors from playing the video at his trial.
Despite Rittenhouse's complicated past, Turning Point USA's Chief Creative Officer Benny Johnson was in no doubt that the teenager would make a good romantic match for any of the young women at the leadership summit. He asked the crowd: "Who in this room is unmarried? Oh my! OK. Well, Kyle Rittenhouse is backstage!"
Once he had brought Rittenhouse out to join him, the political columnist introduced him by telling the audience: "I want to talk a lot about what kind of man you should want to be attracted to... Men: your number one goal is to protect your family and to stand strong in the face of opposition from culture and evil, and Kyle Rittenhouse is a man who does that." As whoops and cheers broke out, Johnson added: "God bless Kyle Rittenhouse."
Rittenhouse appeared to ask: "Do I say anything?" Then at a nod from the host, he turned to the crowd and said: "Thank you guys for all the support and everything. Thank you guys for the prayers, and thank you guys for being strong women!"
Earlier, Johnson had suggested the young women should focus on having children. He boiled down his advice into six succinct words, pumping his fist as he screamed: "More Americans! More babies! Let's go!"
It's not clear how many people attended the event, although the group's website said: "Thousands of female student activists between the ages of 15 and 26 will be invited to attend... [and] receive first-class activism and leadership training.... Following a TPUSA conference, these activists return to their campuses more energized than ever and with the proper tools and training on how to defend conservatism on their campus."
Other speakers at the summit included political commentator Candace Owen, who took to the stage of the women's leadership conference and advised the attendees to "let men lead."
Responding to a question from an audience member about how to "attract good men", she replied that men don't like women who "act like men" by pursuing a career, and added: "I'm a big believer: let men lead. When I say 'lead,' understand: the man is the head of the household, but the woman is the neck." She drew huge cheers.
Most of the speakers at the event were women, and included TV producer Lara Trump (daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump), Judge Jeanine Pirro, Congresswoman Kat Cammack, and former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.
Rittenhouse has become something of a poster boy for the right, although his future remains unclear. He said he hadn't made any money from his publicity tour after the trial. Last week, he announced he was due to attend Texas A&M University but the institution released a statement saying he was not enrolled as a student. He also revealed he has plans to sue the media and celebrities for branding him a murderer, despite his acquittal. And he is also said to be considering writing a book about his life experiences.

Surinaamse schakers vijfde bij Caricom Classic
De Surinaamse schaakdelegatie heeft haar deelname aan de Caricom 50th anniversary Classic team chess tournament zaterdag in Georgetown, Guyana als vijfde afgesloten.
Trinidad en Tobago die vanaf de openingsdag fier aan kop ging, won terecht het evenement. Het eerste team van Guyana sloot af als 2e, gevolgd door Barbados (3), Jamaica (4) en Suriname (5). Bahamas (6), Saint Lucia (7), Cayman Island (8) Guyana team 2 (9) en Dominica ronden de 10 deelnemende landen af.
Het team, bestaande uit schakers Shaief Chashawa, Jason Yeung, Victoria Kaslan en Maylee Tjong Tjin Joe, maakte in het tweede deel (ronden 5, 6, 7, 8 en 9) van dit tournament een betere beurt. Bij publicatie van het eerste bericht stond Suriname op de 8e plek na 4 speelronden.
Suriname begon ronde 5 met een 3½-½ zege op het tweede team van Guyana. Chashawa, Yeung en Kaslan versloegen respectievelijk Keron Sandiford, Kyle Couchman en Sasha Shariff (1-0). Tjong Tjin Joe kwam niet verder dan een remise tegen Aditi Joshi ½-½.
Jamaica was in ronde 6 nipt met 2½-1½ sterker. Chashawa, Kaslan en Tjong Tjin Joe speelden remise tegen Nathan Hinds, Adani Clarke en Krishna Gray remise (½ – ½). Het was Jhustice McDonald, die de zege voor de Jamaicanen veilig stelde door Yeung te verslaan (1-0).
Het Surinaams team herstelde zich in ronde 7 door Saint Lucia met 3-1 te verslaan. Chashawa en Tjong Tjin Joe versloegen Arvin Nicholas en Chelsea Wahid (1-0). Yeung en Kaslan speelden remise tegen Justin James en Tris-Ann Richards (½ – ½).
Tegen favoriet Trinidad en Tobago moesten de Surinaamse schakers het in ronde 8 met (3½- ½) afleggen. Slechts Yeung wist een remise van Quinn Cabralis (½ – ½) af te dwingen. Chashawa, Kaslan en Tjong Tjin Joe verloren van Joshua Johnson, Ysvett Hermoso Rodriguez en Zara La Fleur (0-1).
De Surinamers sloten het evenement winnend af door Bahamas met 3½-½ te verslaan. Chashawa, Yeung en Tjong Tjin Joe wonnen elk hun partij van Avian Pride, Joseph Ferguson en Chika Pride (1-0). Kaslan kwam tegen Polina Karelina niet verder dan een remise (½ – ½).

WI Name Squad For Last Two T20Is Against England; Alazarri, Hetmyer Rested
ICC World Test Championship: The West Indies named their squad for the final two T20Is at home against England with fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and experienced batter Shimron Hetmyer dropping out of the 15-player group.The Caribbean side currently lead the five-match series 2-1 and can clinch a series triumph with a victory in the fourth game in Trinidad on Tuesday or the final clash at the same venue on Thursday.
The decision to rest Joseph is made with one eye on next month's tour of Australia, where the West Indies will play two Tests against the reigning ICC World Test Championship winners in Adelaide and Brisbane and a total of six white-ball (three ODIs and three T20Is) contests.
Joseph is a key member of the West Indies' fast bowling unit in all three formats and is currently the equal leading wicket-taker during the T20I series against England with six scalps.

After seasons of middling returns on the field following plenty of turmoil off field that led to the eventual exit of their stalwart Andre Russell, the Tallawahs stunned everyone in 2022 winning three Play Off matches in a span of four days to lift their third CPL title. Tallawahs have kept most of their winning core from last year bar their talismanic skipper Rovman Powell who moved to Barbados Royals in a pre-season transfer. The architects of their Play Off wins from last year, Brandon King and Shamarh Brooks, both have not been in the best of form as is their overseas signing Alex Hales who will arrive only after completing his Hundred commitments. Imad Wasim has been in red hot form in T20s this year and will be the key in holding together the top and lower order while his erstwhile countryman Mohammad Amir will spearhead the pace attack. Tallawahs would also need Nicholson Gordon, who finished at the top of wicket charts in Super 50 competition, to step up in what is an otherwise inexperienced pace unit.

The standout team in CPL 2022 and the only team to win more than half of their league games, Royals can count themselves unlucky to have one of their poorer days of the tournament happen in the finals. The strategy to move away from all-round heavy sides of 2020 and 2021 campaigns and bring in specialists proved particularly fruitful as all their overseas signings chipped in with their respective assigned roles. Rovman Powell's arrival bolsters their local talent pool while the likes of Laurie Evans and Donovan Ferreira fill in for Quinton de Kock and David Miller. Kyle Mayers and Rahkeem Cornwall can set them off to rapid starts in the Powerplay and Alick Athanaze is expected to light up the tournament in what will be his maiden CPL stint. Mujeeb-ur-Rahman has a like-to-like swap in Maheesh Theekshana who stands to miss bulk of the tournament owing to commitments in LPL and Asia Cup with Qais Ahmad named as his partial replacement.

St Lucia Kings turned around their fortunes in the Covid era making it to Play Off in three successive seasons, having done so just once in the first seven years. Ending up as runners up in 2020 and 2021, the Kings finished fourth place last year under Faf du Plessis. Notwithstanding his poor run in Major League Cricket, Du Plessis has been in fine form in the T20 circuit and his pairing with Johnson Charles makes them the best opening pair in the competition. The Zimbabwe duo of Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza will bring both form and experience to the middle order that is lacking big-ticket local names. Alzarri Joseph and Chris Sole, at least up until the latter makes way for Bhanuka Rajapaksa, give the side a considerable edge with the new ball. Matthew Forde have impressed in LPL 2022 as well as the recently concluded Global T20 in Canada finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker and Kings would want him to extend that form in his sophomore year in CPL.

Always the bridesmaid but never the bride. The only side that has made it to the Play-Offs/semifinals every year but is yet to lift the silverware, Guyana will be hoping they clear the final hurdle this time around. They have stuck to their strategy of packing their squad with spinners and sub-continent batters who are good players of spin. Imran Tahir, the highest wicket-taker across the last three installments of CPL, will helm the spin attack with Gudakesh Motie, Kevin and Junior Sinclair in the supporting cast while the all-around trio of Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul and Odean Smith in charge of seam department in addition to adding to the lower middle order muscle. In Azam Khan and Saim Ayub Guyana have two fine players of spin in the middle order. If ever there was a side that had players looking for a platform to push their case for the national team, it would be the Patriots. Evin Lewis, Andre Fletcher, Sherfane Rutherford, Sheldon Cottrell and Oshane Thomas have all played for West Indies in the recent past but currently find themselves out of favour. Dominic Drakes and Yannic Cariah are also in the fringes of white ball squads but are far from being certain picks for West Indies. The big name missing from their squad last season is skipper Dwayne Bravo who has moved back to home side Trinbago after two seasons with the Patriots. If the loss of Tristan Stubbs dented their middle order a touch, the possible loss of Dewald Brevis later, who got his maiden International call up in the home series against Australia, would serve as a near-killer blow. The bowling attack has variety but lacks class, the spin department in particular is amongst the weaker ones in the competition.

Ahead of the last edition, a few other sides matched the might of Knight Riders on paper. And yet they startlingly went on to finish the wooden spoon holders. Trinbago gets even stronger with the homecoming of their most successful captain Dwayne Bravo after a two-year exile with Patriots and in the quartet of Pollard, Bravo, Narine, and Russell, the Knight Riders have the experience of over 2100 T20 caps. The recent batting form of Pooran, Pollard, and Russell augurs well for them making Knight Riders the most explosive middle order lineup in the tournament. Top order batting has been a nagging issue for Knight Riders in the last couple of seasons as they hope for someone to fill in the shoes of Lendl Simmons. The trio of Narine, Hosein and Noor Ahmad gives them the mantle of the best spin bowling attack ever to be assembled in a CPL squad while Pathirana's addition gives the pace attack a dimension that CPL have often lacked in recent years - that of raw pace.
