So I went a little into it and made face cards for a playing card deck with most of the PCs from the current Bad Decisions Club campaign.

I had fun finding a sort of half way point between my usual style and the more traditional depictions on playing cards.

I still need to add in the jokers.....

War in the North Campaign Arc Recap

(The night of the Full Moon)

Synopsis:

Ghost Explains that he has been hired as a mercenary to guard things here. Echo shares that he knows the Xanathar is dead. Ghost tells them that Gallack and Thorn escaped the fighting pits when he did, during a riot about a month ago.

The three of them set up to defend the forge, with Victoire and Kreetha still manning the forge itself. Ghost is in the hallway to the forge with the dwarven guards, and Echo and Calder are out on a ledge in the Glitterheim. They all settle in to wait for an assault.

Meanwhile, Bathew Bouldershoulder and Keving Bonewolf (Now bloodhunter werewolves in Vic’s small pack) go out from the encampment to scout as the evening begins. They run across a few Were-orcs and fight them. They manage to subdue one of them, and notice a strange brand of Malar on the orc. They manage to gleam that this Orc might not have become a werewolf willingly. They offer to remove the mark, but when they try, the mark incinerates the Orc.

The next person they come across is a cloaked orcish figure with a staff, but when Kevin and Bathew try to ambush her, they both lose their minds to their wolves for a bit and scatter. When they come back to themselves, they are in their full wolf forms, in a glade with a round pond in the middle, without anyone else around. The full moon shines down on the pond and an image of Selune appears in the moon light and boops them each on their noses.

They leave the glade to find they are now deep behind the orc army lines, and they don’t know how long they’ve been out. They decide to scout further and actually manage to find the base camp of the army, along with setting eyes on a mysterious mage. They note where it is, and make their way back to the dwarven encampment.

Back in the Stone Tooth, hours pass without any Orcs advancing on the Forge. Howls erupt from inside the forge rooms, and Bevin, Bathew, and Kevin come rushing out of the circle to ask the PCs to go to the King’s aid. The encampment has been attacked and some forces have broken through to go after the king himself. They were sent by Sven to retrieve the party to help.

Calder, Echo, and Ghost go through the circle to the camp.

They enter into a skirmish already happening, where several were-orcs have already managed to kill several Adbar warriors, wound Pikle, and down Ivan. The PCs join the fray and manage to dispatch the were-orcs while also saving Ivan.

After the were-orcs, several Corpse flowers advance towards their group, spitting out zombies as they go. The party defeats them, but while they are battling, Calder notices that the Whistle vanishes from his possession.

The battle in general at the front lines is not going great. Anton was supposed to be leading the recruits from Mirabar, but he decided to take his team and try to go and kill Mogenthall instead.

Meanwhile, at Hyacinth’s estate, everyone has been preparing for the full moon. They have the place covered with different enchantments and have installed some barricades and additional weapons. Hyacinth, Lor, Clarion, Charlotte, Meepo, Clacryx, a hired mercenary Pyre, and several guards take up positions as the night falls.

They fight off a wave of Blighted Ents and animated trees, followed by a wave of Were-orcs riding wargs with one more ent. But just as they have captured a few last were-orcs, a storm kicks up and a mysterious mage descends from the clouds on the back of a blight-vine infected adult blue dragon, Thunder.

The party fights the mage and dragon. Eventually, Charlotte takes the dragon out of the fight by blinding it with a darkness spell causing it to fly off in a random direction with her on its back. The rest of the party can’t quite manage to kill the mage, but Clarion recognizes him as Belak before he vanishes. The whistle also appears on Clarion’s person during the fight.

Charlotte and Thunder crash in the woods some distance off. Thunder has regained some control, enough to speak, and asks Charlotte to kill him. Charlotte reluctantly agrees and does so. She stays with his body and starts identifying the vines that had controlled him.

Belak appears near her and strikes up a conversation with Charlotte. He tries to convince her of his goals and tells her to consider joining his cause. Charlotte grapples him and casts lightning bolt through him before he tree-walks away.

Meepo and Calcryx eventually find Charlotte and bring her back to the estate.

Meanwhile, back at the Stone tooth, Kreetha is bid to go through the circle and join the rest at the encampment. She does, reluctantly.

At the encampment, everyone regroups and decides to try a shore up the front lines. Calder casts Seeming on them all to disguise several of them. While he casts that, he is pulled into a mindscape and a demon offers him power in exchange for a favor and a meeting with his Boss, who he reveals is Calder’s mother, Glysa. Calder agrees and receives the Shadow Staff. The party splits up to reinforce the front, with Barnabs handing Echo a pouch before they head out. Ghost, Sven, and Echo disguised as Barnabas, head to the gate. Barnabas, Calder, and Kreetha disguised as Sven head to the Mirabar forces. Ivan and Pikle stay at the command tent, disguised as Sven and Barnabas.

Calder further disguises himself as Anton to rally the troops. He and Barnabas and Kreetha lead the charge and manage to meet the oncoming wave of Orcs. Calder, Barnabas, and Kreetha specifically take out a group of Were-Orcs.

Ghost, Sven, and Echo repel the hill giants that were attempting to breach the gate. Echo and Sven then have a conversation about the possibility of Barnabas courting Echo. As the others meet up again at the gate, they all spot Nightscale flying over the orcs, when he gets hit with a massive net and downed behind the orc lines.

Echo, Kreetha, Calder, and Ghost set out on brooms and a flying Stinky to rescue Nightscale. They manage to save him from a group of druids who were attempting to infect him with the blight vines. Then on the way back to the front, everyone does their part to break the Orc lines. Dawn breaks behind them and the Orcs retreat.

Meanwhile, Anton’s group finds Mogenthall in the shadow of a giant weird tree (a new Gulthias tree), but when they go to attack, Anton, Chomper, and Tarl are all held in place by magic. Mogenthall orders everyone but Anton killed, and then starts to lead him away. Belak comes through the giant Gulthias tree, looking beat up.

The party sleeps through the morning, and wakes during the day to regroup with everyone. Calder gets a Sending from Charlotte telling him about the attack on the Estate and Belak’s return. Dream comes to the group and tells a version of Anton’s capture that paints him as having betrayed them. Dream does tell them about the giant Gulthias tree and Mogenthall and the weird Mage the tree-walked in.

Everyone begins strategizing.

Later, while Echo is tending to dead bodies, he is summoned to speak to Barnabas. Barnabas asks him to court, and after some discussion, Echo says yes. Barnabas takes Echo, along with Kreetha, Calder and Ghost, back to the Forge. Barnabas and Echo (with help from Kreetha and Durgedin) cut an emerald into an Ioun Stone of mastery, that Echo attunes to.

War in the North Campaign Arc Recap

Synopsis:

The group arrives in Mirabar and gets equipped for the colder weather. Victoire makes a flying cart and they set out to the Adbar encampment closer to the Stone Tooth. Upon arriving, Echo recognises the circus tent present and goes to greet his family.

Everyone meets up with Barnabas and his advisors in the main tent. There are many new faces present, including Calder’s brother Anton, and two more of Barnabas’ cousins Pikle and Ivan Bouldershoulder. They want to scout out the mountain, secure the forge before the next full moon, as well as get the supply lines to the camp established and guarded.

The group gets paid.

Victoire and Kreetha (with Durgedin) get set up making weapons and items for the camp and team. Calder and Echo set off to Mirabar to get to work organizing things, and are attacked by Nihiloor mid-flight. They manage to evade him and escape. They try to figure out how he found them and conclude that the plushie Kreetha has is a tool to scry though for the Xanathar. They rush back and stuff the thing into a bag of holding.

Over some downtime, items are crafted and supply lines are secured.

Victoire receives a dream visitor who tells her that disaster will come with the next full moon, and the end of the world with the one after.

A week before the full moon, the team sets out to try and secure the forge, as well as recruit or destroy nightscale. Anton’s team is also sent out to find and disable the magical means of the orc army feeding itself.

The PC team fight and defeat Nightscale in his lair, claiming his horde and his alliance in the process. They then head up to the forge room proper and fight the Iron Golems there. With Kreetha putting Durgedin into the forge itself, they are able to gain control of the golems. Kreetha remains unconscious from this for a time.

They rest and wake with sounds outside the forge room. Echo goes to speak with who they think are Grey dwarves. Combat ensues. They kill all the rust monsters, but through Echo’s efforts, don’t kill any of the grey dwarves. They manage to talk to their leader, Arnan, and convince him to leave for the time being, with promises of further talks should their claims about the Shield dwarves prove true. They leave Galvin, the Grey dwarf Echo saved, with them. They manage to convince Galvin to chill, and they all return to the forge.

With everyone working together, they forge a new vessel for Durgedin. They sleep. Merryweather vanishes sometime that night.

Calder and Echo return to the camp to tell them about their successes. Anton’s team was also successful.

Anton’s team (piloted by the players for the Halloween special) manage to find the Orc’s food source, a magically blighted pumpkin patch and a strange machine that turns the pumpkins into pies. They fight a monstrous blight creature which is the whole patch, and also manage to destroy the machine, before returning with evidence of their find. Also they torched the whole place.

With the Forge secured, the Adbar dwarves start populating it and using the forge to silver weapons for the upcoming full moon battle.

Barnabas manages to have a conversation with Galvin, confirming what Echo and others said about him not killing grey dwarves on sight. Galvin remains at the forge for now.

On the day of the full moon, Echo unattunes to his Harper pin and receives a few messages. Vesper tells him that he needs to speak with him urgently before the full moon and asks him to come to Waterdeep. Echo shouts at him, but it was a delayed message, so he can not reply. Then Alustriel is there to speak to him and tells him of Mogenthall, the leader of the Orc army. She doesn’t know much about him, but she knows he is an ogre. She also tells him of the general location of the command for the Orc army. Also she mentions that the Xanathar has been killed.

Echo passes the info about the orc army on the Barnabas and Sven before they teleport back to the encampment.

After they leave, the last of the warriors to guard the Forge come through the teleportation circle, including an elf, Nalmani the Ghost. Ghost, Echo, and Calder all recognize each other from the Xanathar’s fighting pits.
