Big Time Rush – Hersheypark Stadium – Hershey, PA – July 2, 2023

In the words of Big Time Rush, “The city is ours.”

This absolutely rang true at Hersheypark Stadium last weekend, as the group took over Hershey, Pennsylvania. The foursome – including Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, Carlos Pena-Vega, and James Maslow – made an appearance in the chocolate capital of the country on their “Can’t Get Enough” Tour. “

Rushers” were excited to see their favorite band back in action after their split in 2014. The group got back together in 2021 and then went on a reunion tour, releasing several hit singles including “Not Giving You Up,” “Call It Like I See It,” “Fall,” and more.

For years, fans had been unsure of when they would hear more new music or see the squad again, and the guys of Big Time Rush had good news in store. They released their newest album Another Life in June 2023, and kicked off a supporting tour of the album later that month.

We were lucky enough to attend a stop on the tour and had the time of our lives.

Accompanying Big Time Rush on the tour were JAX and MAX, two incredibly talented performers, whose names rhyme, coincidentally! The first of the three performers of the night was viral sensation JAX (Jaclyn Cole Miskanic) who literally took the stage by storm. We’ve been covering JAX for years, so it was an amazing experience to see her perform in a stadium.

She kicked off her set with “90s Kids” followed by “Cinderella Snapped,” and a cover of Wheatus’ “Teenage Dirtbag.” Among other hits, she closed out her performance with everyone’s favorite “Victoria’s Secret” while coming down from the stage to the barricade to sing with fans. This was a performance we’ll never forget.

Up next was Max Schneider, more commonly known as MAX. He got his start on Nickelodeon on the TV series How To Rock, followed by a starring role in the network’s movie Rags. Since then, MAX has gone on to tour with Victoria Justice, Fall Out Boy, Wiz Khalifa, and now Big Time Rush.

The singer started his set with a bang, singing smash hit “Love Me Less” followed by an electric performance of a mashup of “Holla” and a cover of Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” We’re not kidding when we say that everyone in Hersheypark Stadium was on their feet! MAX then went on to play “Someday,” “Lights Down Low,” “Mug Shot,” and more. Once MAX left the stage, fans knew it was time to see their favorite band.

The next thing we knew, the lights went down, and the silhouettes of four familiar figures were highlighted on stage. They stood silent for a few moments, as the crowd was anything but that. The first few notes of “Can’t Get Enough” blasted over the speakers, filling the stadium, as did the screams of hundreds of fans. Big Time Rush was officially in the house!

They then played “Elevate,” “Song for You,” and more crowd-pleasing tracks. Kendall, James, Logan, and Carlos are all such talented performers. They not only hit every single note in every single song, but they make sure each member of the audience feels seen and appreciated. Their fan interactions while performing were so special to see.

Next was the acoustic set, where the guys played “All Over Again,” early-career hit “Any Kind of Guy,” followed by “Ask You Tonight” from their most recent album. After the intimate acoustic section, it was time to start dancing again. The rest of their set was nothing less than electric. The group played hits new and old, including “Love Me Love Me,” “Paralyzed,” “Nothing Even Matters,” and “Worldwide.”

“Worldwide” is everyone’s favorite section of the show because the guys each select a lucky fan to sit on stage with them as they perform. Every fan’s reaction to getting selected is drastically different – from being extremely shy, to crying for the entirety of the song, to taking over the song themself and putting on a performance. This is a special thing that the guys have done since they began performing this song, and we hope they continue the tradition.

After an incredible lineup of tracks including “Famous,” “Confetti Falling,” and, of course, “Big Time Rush,” it was time for the finale. The guys returned to the stage to sing “Windows Down” – where they walked through the entire stadium greeting fans – “Boyfriend,” and finally fan favorite “Til I Forget About You.”

We’ve covered Big Time Rush numerous times over the years, but this tour was by far our favorite. If you get the chance to attend the Can’t Get Enough Tour, do it! You’ll have a night you won’t forget.

Serve Up 90s Nostalgia With Good Burger 2

The 90s were a time of iconic fashion trends, formative moments in pop culture history, unforgettable music, and timeless sitcoms. One of the most memorable films to stem from this era is Good Burger – starring Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. Though the movie was released nearly 27 years ago, it is still a cultural phenomenon.

Director Phil Traill, alongside writers Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, joined forces again in 2023 to bring back everyone’s favorite fast-food coworkers in an all-new feature film: Good Burger 2. The sequel includes an incredible cast, comprised of Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Lil Rel Howery, Jillian Bell, Kamaia Fairburn, Alex R. Hibbert, Fabrizio Guido, Elizabeth Hinkler, Emily Hinkler, Anabel Graetz, Josh Server, Lori Beth Denberg, and Carmen Electra.

We were lucky enough to chat with Phil Traill, Kevin Kopelow, Heath Seifert in a virtual press conference about the newly released sequel.

On the inspiration behind reviving the iconic 90s story as a sequel 26 years later:

Heath Seifert: Good Burger is a project that is near and dear to our hearts. We did the original 27 years ago, and we worked with Kenan and Kel starting All That 30 years ago. That’s when we did the first sketches. We’ve always been thinking Good Burger. It’s always at the front of our brains. When the time was right, we had a story that felt really relevant to tell now about technology and evil corporations trying to exploit workers. It felt like the right time to tell that tale, and everybody involved with the original film looks back on it fondly and wanting to do it again and wanting to do it right. So, it was really just a matter of getting everybody’s schedules to line up.

Phil Traill: (laughs)I just wanted some money!

Heath Seifert: Other people did it for the money. It’s a paycheck.

On handling the continuity and coherence of a film’s narrative years after its initial release:

Kevin Kopelow: We had written a lot of “Good Burger” sketches on All That, so we always had this voice down. Then we rebooted it, did the sketches again and it was just natural. It’s always in our heads, we’re always thinking Good Burger bits and, “Oh, you know what would be funny in Good Burger?” and we got to do it! It wasn’t too difficult to get back into it.

On if Good Burger 2 is a continuation of Good Burger or the sequel was created from a different angle:

Heath Seifert: I think we looked at the first film as a template of what we enjoyed and what worked. I love what Phil likes to say, “Then we emulate and elevate.” We kind of took that blueprint and tried to build a bigger burger, so to speak.

On if there was a moment on set that encapsulated the experience of making the film:

Phil Traill: When Kenan and Kel got into the burger mobile for the first time and drove out onto the real street, and people just stopped, screaming. It was slightly annoying because we were trying to film! Everyone just seemed so happy to be there – from Kenan and Kel in the burger mobile, in their outfits, and then us filming it, and then all the people lining the streets. It was just people smiling.

Kevin Kopelow: The people that knew who they were, were so excited and the people that didn’t we’re going, “Woah, who are these two guys riding around in a burger?!” That’s the movie in a nutshell.

Phil Traill: I heard lots of dads telling their kids, “You’ve never seen it! We have to go home and watch it straight away!” They were explaining the world of it so quickly if the kids hadn’t seen it before. They’re going to be in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade driving the burger mobile – Kenan and Kel!

Kevin Kopelow: No one knows they’re doing it; they’re just driving. (laughs)

On what it was like seeing the film in its entirety after putting years of work into it:

Phil Traill: I’ve seen it a lot. Each time’s a joy. We actually have our premier tonight. I’m really happy and satisfied because when we set it up to make a film, you don’t completely know what you’ll end up with. The target is quite small to hit for nostalgic fans, new fans, young people, old people. It’s quite a small target. It seems to hit that, so I’m really pleased that it seems to be hitting that target. I’m really happy each time we show it to people.

Heath Seifert: Phil did an amazing job. It’s really fun to watch it. It’s really exciting to see it. I think people are going to be really happy.

With a heart wrenching love triangle, the challenge of societal norms, and beautifully saturated seaside views, My Policeman is a forbidden love story for the ages.

The story takes place during two different timelines. The first is sometime during the 1990s and the second in the 1950s. Marion Burgess (Gina McKee) and Tom Burgess (Linus Roache) live in a charming seaside residence, the pair being two parts of an anything-but-charming marriage.

The ongoing subconscious feud between the couple is brought to light when Tom arrives home to see that Marion has brought in a guest to stay with them, an old friend Patrick (though it is clear that “old friend” is a loose term for Tom). This angers Tom and he storms out of the house, leaving Marion to care for their sick and crippled guest.

Mostly depicted in flashbacks from the trio’s younger years, a love story is illustrated – actually two love stories. First, we are shown the blossoming relationship between young Marion (Emma Corrin) and young Tom (Harry Styles). Much to my surprise, Marion and Tom’s relationship was once pure, innocent, and loving.

The couple seemed to grow closer and closer until another love story begins revealing itself. This is that of young Tom and young Patrick (David Dawson.) As Tom and Patrick’s relationship is fueled with the fires of passion, intimacy, and secrecy, Tom and Marion’s relationship begins to dim.

Aside from the tale itself, the visuals we are presented with are magnificent. Ben Davis’ cinematography in this film captures the essence of each timeline, using nature, lighting, shadow, and temperature to aid in telling the story.

The clear contrast in lighting and color between the 1950s and the 1990s is so telling of the innocence, hope, and longing followed by the lack thereof as time slips out of the threesome’s hands. The warmth and luminescence of scenes that took place in the 50s are reminiscent of brighter days, enveloping me in feelings of nostalgia. The melancholia and shadows of the 90s scenes cast a longing shadow over the tone of the film, effectively highlighting the development of the two love stories over the last 40 years.

What makes My Policeman the alluring film that it is is not only its incredible cast but the fact that it is the untold truth of thousands of queer people over the years. The abominable way that queer individuals were treated in the 1950s is illustrated accurately in this story, making it that much more heartbreaking. This is such an important story for anyone who feels ashamed about their feelings to see so that they know that they are valid, worthy, and deserving of love.

Michael Grandage did a phenomenal job of bringing Bethan Roberts’ novel to life, even the TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey agrees. Stars Emma Corrin, David Dawson, Harry Styles, Linus Roache, Gina McKee, and Rupert Everett were awarded the TIFF Tribute award for their roles in the film at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival. I can absolutely see My Policeman racking up the nominations in the coming awards season.

Meghan Trainor – Takin’ It Back (Epic)

Since her debut single “All About That Bass” struck the airwaves in 2014, Meghan Trainor has been a hit. Meghan was born in Massachusetts in 1993, going on to independently record and release acoustic various albums before writing songs for other performers starting in 2013.

In 2014, Meghan signed with Epic Records and released “All About That Bass” – the song that made her a household name. She has gone on to release four studio albums and will be releasing her fifth titled Takin’ It Back on October 21st, 2022!

I was lucky enough to listen to the album cover to cover and loved every song, minute, and note!

Takin’ It Back is the perfect album for anyone who has recently gone through a breakup or simply needs a boost of confidence. Meghan’s lyrics mixed with the uplifting and pop-centered instrumentals blend perfectly to create everyone’s next getting-ready-for-a-girls’-night-out playlist.

The album is filled to the brim with everything from empowering anthems to romantic ballads, and even some catchy club songs. There is absolutely something for everyone on Takin’ It Back and I stand by that!

I’m also excited to see if this album release leads to an upcoming tour because these songs were clearly written to be performed, as they both invoke emotion and have lots of music layers to them – from melodic horn sections to even an acapella track. Meghan’s versatility as an artist is what makes her the brilliant artist that she is because fans never fully know what to expect next from her.

The album touches on the themes of healing, nostalgia, positivity, empowerment, self-awareness, and self-love. Another theme touched on is the harsh reality of social media, and that life isn’t all sunshine and roses, but you can learn to navigate and block out all of the noise.

Meghan’s retro musical influences are very apparent, setting the vibe and making the album that much catchier. I believe Takin’ It Back will be another milestone in Meghan’s career, soon to become an instant classic!

I low-key forget how to journal and can’t really journal anymore since I’ve lost my vision but want to have a space to keep my thoughts and feelings on track. Most of the stuff on my mind is either about my vision loss or Matt 🥰. I had a self harm relapse on Friday And I’m still wrestling a lot with that. Matthew was over this weekend and I have to say Matthew because if I say Matt 🥰 my phone automatically adds the little ��️ which is kind of silly. I am feeling very overwhelmed and a lot of ways. Right now, I am sort of feeling attached and disconnected from him And I’m not sure why. I sort of feel dissociative. I feel like I’m just kind of watching myself and our relationship play out and I’m not really present for it. Part of me feels like maybe the honeymoon phase and the super obsessed with each other stage is over. I think part of it has to do with us not having sex as much anymore or feeling like his sex drive towards me is just lower. He got me off today. He just rubbed my clip while we laid in bed and it was really weird and kind of awkward and not gonna lie. I don’t know how he could be getting off like that and not be turned on himself and want to fuck me? Maybe I’m just insane but not getting off while we were on our anniversary made me feel really ugly and worthless. I know I really need to work on my self-esteem and my confidence but it’s hard to do that when I feel like the man that I love and I’m so attracted to, for some reason, has sexual interest in me. And the beginning, we thought we were super compatible because we had the same sex and the same sexual interests like into BDSM and things like that and now suddenly he says that he is higher than his and he wants to lay around as forms of intimacy And just really isn’t in that headspace anymore. I’m wondering if we should revisit being open or potentially being Pauly but I’m not quite sure how to have that conversation without hurting his feelings. We had a good discussion today about how I was a little bit, disappointed that I didn’t get a present for anniversary, and he told me that he feels vulnerable and upset that he doesn’t feel like he can get me good gifts. Even though I love the fact that he gets me presents and he has done way more than Matt 🥰 ever has. He shows up for me so many ways, and I worry that I’m getting codependent on him, and that is one of my biggest fears. I want to be able to support myself, to talk myself off of ledges, to self regulate on my own, to cope by myself, and to survive my own mind and then Matt 🥰 being an addition to my life and instead of having to lean on him when things are hard. Even though he says I don’t have to do it alone now and I have him and his support it doesn’t feel like that is what a partnership should be and it makes me feel incredibly guilty and wrong.

I read some articles about self sabotaging relationships tonight, and I am hoping that that will give me some clarity on what I have been doing with trying to pick fights and break up with him and convince him to leave me. I don’t know why I do that but part of me Genuinely wonders if I am ready to be in a relationship or not because sometimes the commitment legitimately does feel suffocating and overwhelming even though he is so good to me and treats me so well. Navigating all of this is really hard. I’m feeling really sad and lonely tonight, he’s already asleep. I’ve gone back-and-forth from feeling like I want to hurt myself. It’s frustrating that yesterday literally Kayla called me because she was upset, Marra called me to vent, Katie has been texting and calling me, Julieeeeee Lee texted me that she isn’t doing well, Rachel 💜💜 called me to ask about her outfit and then today when I’m having a pretty rough night I literally haven’t heard from anyone. It makes me feel like people only show up when they need something and that’s a really shitty fucking feeling. Oh and Britni called when she needed help with all the Maddy stuff but now she’s in Poland so I feel like I can’t fault her too much. I had an emotional breakdown about my clothes today not sure if that’s relevant but just figured I would put it here. I also haven’t been doing my French and it’s been making me feel like a piece of shit. I just legitimately feel so awful about myself and hate myself so much and I’m not sure how to change that narrative. I think I should start using some of Betty’s techniques and trying to go from negative to neutral. Also, I just remembered that it is and‘s last week of IOP and I am starting to panic. I will have to get on the discord so we can stay in touch is making me really sad that two of my favorite people and hopefully friends I will no longer be in contact with. They have been a huge part of my support network and my recovery and is making me super anxious to think about losing them. I also need to get in touch with Dr Dunfey because I feel like my depression symptoms have been worsening.

Nightly

Getting to Know Nightly

Nashville-based alternative band Nightly is comprised of three incredibly talented musicians- Jonathan Capeci, Nicholas Sainato, and Joseph Beretta. Nightly (it’s an abbreviation for night, love you) got their start in 2016, working on several projects and EPs. They signed with Interscope Records in July of that year, with whom they released their leading single “XO” and debut EP“Honest.”

Nightly then went on tour as the supporting act for Ke$ha, The All-American Rejects, The Struts, NF, and more. In August 2019, the group signed a record deal with BMG, where they released their debut album night, love you.

Nightly is releasing their sophomore album wear your heart out on August 25th, and we had the pleasure of sitting down to chat with them about the story behind the album, their upcoming tour, and more.

Could you tell us a bit about who you are and what you do?

Jonny Capeci: For the band Nightly, I sing. My name’s Jonny, and this is Joey. He plays guitar, and then Nick plays drums. We live in Nashville, Tennessee.

If you could explain your sound/vibe in three words to a new listener, which words would you choose?

Jonny Capeci: Are these fun words or what you actually want us to sound like?

Whatever you guys think is most representative of you!

Jonny Capeci: Maybe alternative.

Joey Beretta: I would say new favorite band.

That’s perfect! That’s all you need to know.

Joey Beretta: (laughs) Jonny got one word and I got three!

Nick Sainato: Super vibes.

Joey Beretta: Super vibey?

Super vibes and super vibey, I think both are fitting. Congratulations on the release of your newest single and music video “like i do” Could you tell us a bit about the songwriting process for this track?

Joey Beretta: We had most of the record done. We only had three or more songs left to fill. We knew the vibe that we wanted to go for. I tried to explain this the other day and I did such a bad job, so I’m trying to do a better job. I saw this thing on TikTok. It was a video of Coldplay. They were playing “Clocks” and there's that iconic riff that goes throughout the whole song. So, we wanted a riff like that to base the song on. It started on piano. Actually, Nick was playing piano and came up with this riff. We changed it to a couple of different things. It starts out on synth and there are strings that do it in the outro.

Joey Beretta: The guitar does it. The vocals do it. When you listen to the song in the session itself, you can hear, it's like that through idea of that part. But it changes what is doing it the whole time. It's how it started, but then we got away from that once we got the meat of the song written. We were like, Oh, this is actually super sick.

Jonny Capeci: Yeah. We loved how, after the first chorus, it completely changes to guitar and drums that don't come until after that, and then the bass comes in, in the first chorus. We were trying to change elements as the song evolved. But pretty much once we had that progression, the song came out super-fast. We had the verse and chorus done really quickly. It's definitely one of my favorites on the album, and it was very easy to write, which is always nice.

That’s awesome! What made you choose this as the next single?

Jonny Capeci: We always have a hard time picking what the songs are that come out before the singles. Because I think all of us have songs that we thought could be, and people on our team same thing. This was, I think, the one song that everybody pretty much agreed on at this time. It's just more of an easy decision than other singles.

Rather than creating a traditional music video, you donated to Wags and Walks in Nashville and took three of the adoptable dogs out for the day in Nashville. That’s incredible. How did this idea come up? Walk us through that process.

Jonny Capeci: I'm going to be honest with you. It was actually our manager's idea. We had a few different vibes that we wanted for other songs that we knew. This one we were a little unsure of. So, she came up with the initial idea. We were like, yeah, that's amazing. So, can't take credit for that one. It was a genius idea by our manager.

Jonny, I heard that you actually adopted one of the dogs! Tell us about that experience and decision.

Jonny Capeci: Yeah. I don't know. I wasn't even really thinking about getting a dog, but then hanging out with them that day and just seeing her, I was like, maybe I'll just go meet her, hang out with her. Then I was like, I can't leave her. The other thing, too, is, she's been in the foster system for her entire life, and she's like seven months old. So I was just like man. It sucks because they live in the same place, for, like two weeks at a time and they go back to a pound. She's been in and out of pounds her whole life. I was just like I can't stomach that. I’m not letting her do that again. It was very impulsive. I thought about it for like a few hours, and I was just like, alright. I got to get her.

Joey Beretta: She’s literally the best dog ever, though.

Jonny Capeci: I did luck out. She’s very well-behaved.

Did anyone else consider getting a dog?

Joey Beretta: Well, what's funny is that my wife made me promise I wouldn't bring home a dog because we had just gotten a puppy, and I actually had his (Jonny’s) dog for the video. The second I met her I was like; I'm going to take this dog home and it's just going to ruin my entire life, but I don't care because she's so perfect. Then he ends up adopting her and she ends up over at my house like five days a week, which is amazing. She and my dog get along.

Jonny Capeci: We work over here at Joe's place, so I just bring her over. The two of them just hang out and play.

Joey Beretta: All three of the dogs from the video did get adopted. They all found a home, which is awesome. We're really, really proud of that.

You guys really made a difference in their lives and I’m sure all of the shelter’s dogs as well.

Jonny Capeci: We’re just really grateful to have fans that give us a platform to be able to do something like that. So, we really have them to thank. We just feel lucky that we get to be able to do something like that.

Do you have a specific writing process for all of your songs? Or do they flow differently?

Joey Beretta: Usually before this album, [it] was all over the place. Jonny would come up with an idea, or we build a track and then write something over it, or a guitar part or something. But I feel like this album, we very intentionally plugged in as many instruments as we could, and we would all just jam, someone would come up with something. Someone would be playing drums or whatever, and then we'd get an idea and then write a song to it, which is why I think the album has a real fluidity to it. Every song is different, but it all makes sense together, which was really exciting for us because we had never really just sat in a studio for two months and just wrote a big body of work.

Nick Sainato: With older songs, sometimes you'll have a song for six months, a year, or it's like half a song and then you'll finish it six months later. This album, we started in January, we finished in March, basically. We had those songs for that period of time. I think you can tell like what Joe saying, it just feels super cohesive. It's not just a random song from two years ago. It's all from this era where we were jamming and all together just making music.

You can really tell when you listen to the tracks that they came naturally, and everything does flow very well and is very cohesive. I can see that. Your new album wear your heart out drops on August 25th, which is the day that this is being released! Could you tell us a bit about the inspirations and story behind this album?

Jonny Capeci: We toured for most of last year. We were on three tours, then we did a bunch of one-off shows. So we were gone the majority of last year, except for maybe a couple of months, and we wrote a bunch of songs in those couple of months. We actually had a Dropbox folder with a bunch of songs. We got through the year of touring. We just came out of the period of COVID and not being able to tour. That’s where our first album was written and was really locked in the house. We had a different perspective on songs, I think, and what we wanted to play live. We threw everything out that we did before, or at least put it to the side. We were feeling this energy that was like, we want to write something that really represents what we want to tour, thinking about it like that. That was a huge inspiration, just like Joe was saying, where we would plug in instruments and jam. Whereas before it'd be like, I have a song idea for this, and it's more starting from a conceptual place. This was less conceptual from the onset. As we were going through, I think we really found that what was just in our subconscious actually did tie together. It's more of a dancey love song album, whereas some of our stuff previously had been a little sadder. That was just what was in our brains and came out. We didn't necessarily sit down and think, we're going to write this type of album, and this is what the theme is. It just came out because I think we had all this built-up energy from the tours that we were really wanting to get out. It was the first time we've done it like that, and also the first time we've written an album in a short time period. Our debut album again happened by accident, where it was like we wrote some songs, we released them, and then COVID hit and all that stuff, and we just kept releasing songs until it became an album. This was our first intentional time period for writing an album.

It sounds like there are very nice, bright, happy vibes in this album, which I’m sure fans are ecstatic to hear. If you could assign one color to wear your heart out which would it be?

Jonny Capeci: I’m just going to say this because we've done it in a lot of branding for the album and it feels like that to me. I’m going to say disco silver. We use the disco ball in a lot of the videos and stuff, and it just feels representative. Because you see a disco ball and it makes you want to dance, makes you think of moody lights and stuff. I’d say that’s mine.

Joey Beretta: I’m very colorblind so this is a hard question for me. What do you mean “colors”? Do you mean color? (laughs) I just always say blue because that’s the best color that I see really well.

Nick Sainato: I want to say red because that’s what we used a bunch but some of it also feels pink. It’s kind of lovely. I’m going to say light pink.

Joey Beretta: Something about disco silver just feels good, you know?

I wasn’t expecting disco silver, but I see the vision.

Joey Beretta: If someone says their favorite color is disco silver, I want to be their friend instantly.

Nick Sainato: It doesn’t compare to disco green.

Joey Beretta: See, I don’t know what that means but I know what disco silver is. This guy’s got colors coming out of everywhere!

Jonny Capeci: Crayola, where you at?

Joey Beretta: You just pulled two great colors out of your brain there somewhere.

Which song are you most excited to perform live if you had to choose one?

Joey Beretta: To perform live or favorite song in general?

We can do perform live and also favorite song. Double answer!

Jonny Capeci: I don’t know yet because we haven’t performed any of them. I feel like I have three. I would say “the feeling,” “wear your heart out,” and “shirt.”

Nick Sainato: You can’t take my song! I’m going to say “shirt,” obviously “like i do,” and “dry eyes.” We played that one time at a one-off show, and it felt sick. But I’ll say “shirt.”

Joey Beretta: My favorite song on the album is my “boys.” That's going to be really fun to play. Jonny’s first guitar solo ever recorded on an album is in that song. Very exciting. It took many years to convince him, too, but he's a really great guitar player.

Jonny Capeci: I’m more of a chords guy.

Joey Beretta: He’s more of a virtuoso but he won’t say that. [My favorite song] to play live, I’m more of a sappy guy live, I feel like “radiohead” is going to be awesome live. That's probably the one I'm most excited for. Just for the (sings riff) … Nick's our resident actual music theory knowledge guy. So he'll say things like Major two.

Nick Sainato: You know exactly what I'm talking about.

Joey Beretta: I only know because he taught me. But I don't know them really. I just pretend to.

It's always good to have a guy around like that. You got your color guy, you got your music theory guy, what else do you need? Speaking of performing live, you’re heading out on the wear your heart out tour in October! Which cities are you most pumped to perform in, and are you visiting any cities you haven’t before?

Jonny Capeci: We're playing cities that we've never headlined in, like we’ve only ever opened shows in, which would be Seattle and Portland. We’ve never headlined in those two, so that’ll be really fun as far as to play. New York is super fun, Nashville is always super fun, but I will say we did like a half tour last year, just the east coast. So we haven't headlined on the West Coast for a while, so I'm definitely excited to go back and play Los Angeles and all the stuff on the West Coast that we haven't done in a long time. Salt Lake City, all that.

Joey Beretta: Nashville is always a blast, and Chicago is incredible. Charlotte was great.

Nick Sainato: Every city’s so different.

Jonny Capeci: They’re usually all great.

This tour is obviously going to be great because the album is great. Lastly, do you have anything you’d like to say to the fans coming out to see you on tour?

Jonny Capeci: I think it's maybe a little bit of what I was saying earlier when we were talking about the music video that we did. We just feel grateful that they have given us. Otherwise, we'd still be in our mom's basement, playing music and having to work a job we don't like. So yeah, we're just really grateful. I know myself, as a music fan that goes to shows, what a pain it can be at times to get tickets, get parking figure out, if you're traveling, where you're staying and all that stuff. We're really lucky to have a lot of fans that do travel. We’re just really grateful. I think it's going to be a lot of fun, too. We're going to give our best effort to make it just a super engaging and fun show. Come ready to dance.

Nessa Barrett – The Fillmore – Philadelphia, PA – March 2, 2023

Twenty-year-old singer/songwriter Nessa Barrett took the stage of the Philadelphia Fillmore on her Young Forever tour. Before even entering the venue, fans filled the streets of the city eager to see their favorite singer and the person they look up to most. This is the singer’s first tour and I was lucky enough to catch her on the sixth date!

Isabel LaRosa kicked off the night with an electric performance. The room lit up when she sang hits “HAUNTED,” “I’m Yours,” and even a cover of Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl.” Isabel was the perfect act to get the crowd ready for Nessa’s performance.

As the lights went down over the crowd and went up on the stage, screams filled the room as Nessa’s silhouette graced the stage. She started her set with “Madhouse” followed by “Decay” and “Too Hot to Cry,” all tracks from her newest album Young Forever. Though Nessa only has several singles, one EP, and one album, the Fillmore was flooded with fans from the barricade of the stage to the back of the room.

Nessa played everything from EP tracks “I Hope Ur Miserable Until Ur Dead” and “Scare Myself,” many songs from Young Forever, her newest single “BANG BANG” and even an unreleased song titled “American Jesus.”

What I love most about Nessa is not only how talented she is, but how much love she shows to her fans. All throughout her set, she expressed her gratitude and love for everyone in the room. When talking about her own struggles, she made sure to let her fans know that they are not alone and that this tour is a safe space for them. I got teary-eyed!

Speaking of teary-eyed, while singing fan favorite “Die First”, fans held up white roses to pay their respects for the loss of Nessa’s best friend, Cooper, who passed away in 2022. This was one of the most emotional, passionate, and beautiful performances I have ever seen.

Nessa closed out the night with viral hit “I Hope Ur Miserable Until Ur Dead” which had everyone on their feet. This was a great end to an incredible night.

Speaking Really Loud

You may not know Eva Carlton yet, but that’s going to change.

Eva Carlton is an 18-year-old actress who got her start in Universal Studio’s Little (2019) and Universal Kids’ Where’s Waldo? (2019-2021). Currently, Carlton is starring in Nickelodeon’s newest television show The Really Loud House, about a boy named Lincoln who lives with his ten sisters – Leni, Lori, Luna, Luan, Lola, Lucy, Lana, Lynn, Lily, and Lisa.

The series follows the premise of its predecessor cartoon series, and fans are more than ready to see their favorite characters (and more) come to life!

We sat down to chat with Eva about The Really Loud House, her acting inspirations, singing a One Direction song for an audition, advice she has for aspiring actors/actresses, and more!

Since we haven’t spoken with you before, could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I'm Eva Carlton. I'm 18 years old. I have a little sister who is 16 named Chloe. I also have a dog named Charlie. She's a chocolate lab.

Congratulations on landing the role of Leni Loud in Nickelodeon’s The Really Loud House! What drew you to this script and made you want to be a part of this production?

The script is absolutely hilarious. First off, all of the jokes are really funny. Even when we were doing the audition, my mom was cracking up, because she is my reader. We do a lot of self-tapes. She’s been my reader ever since COVID, since I’m based out of Atlanta. We have our own little station at home and my mom records it. She was crying laughing in-between takes, trying to keep herself from laughing during the actual audition, so as to not ruin it. It was very funny. I definitely felt a kinship with Leni in terms of her happy-go-lucky nature and her love for fashion and love for all things beautiful. She just seemed really fun and is really fun.

How did you prepare for the role of Leni?

When I first auditioned for the series, I had a completely different interpretation of who Leni was than what she actually. I didn't watch the cartoon before auditioning, but I’ve seen it since. When I first auditioned, I hadn't seen it, and I played her very obviously dumb. She's not dumb, but I played her that way. I did a scene from the cartoon, the episode where Leni is trying to pass her driver's test. I definitely played it really slow and not fully there. I went straight to testing and they told me that Jonathan Judge – our executive producer and our director on some of the episodes – told me that I needed to be quicker. That Leni is always happy. She's always smiling, super fun, and she’s not dumb. She says things and things make sense to her. I guess things just work definitely in her world. But she's not slow or dumb. She's very high-energy, fast-paced, and definitely smart in her own way. I definitely took that note and that's how I've been getting into her headspace. She's just happy smiley, and in her own world.

Leni’s character is known for her bright and positive outlook on life. What similarities do you see between yourself and her? Any differences?

I'm definitely not as smiley as Leni. Not that I'm not happy, but I'm definitely more of a realist than she is. In terms of similarities, I relate to her love of fashion and how extra she is. I guess the best way to say it is that she's the most overdressed, she always looks incredible, and she's always putting her best foot forward. That is me, you can ask any of my friends. I'm always overdressed, always dressed to the nines. I really relate to that.

What was the biggest challenge you faced in taking on this role?

I would say that the biggest challenge that I faced is because Leni is such a funny character, There are a lot of jokes written for her. Leni’s character is written, for me at least, definitely very funny. There are a lot of jokes for her. It's so hard for me to make a complete round character with her, because sometimes her personality or things that she will say just change depending on the context of the scene. For instance, I'm really used to Leni being super unaware of her surroundings and that’s the butt of a lot of jokes. Then in other terms, she’ll get very straightforward like an older sister, which is different than she’s been in the past. I guess the challenge for me has been finding where those to meet. I'm creating a full character with that.

What has it been like working with Nickelodeon as a whole?

It's definitely been crazy. I got actually got into acting when I was little. I was watching Disney and Nickelodeon and I told my dad that I wanted to be on TV. So, it's definitely been surreal to now be in a place where I'm on Nickelodeon. It's even crazier when I see ads on Nickelodeon for our show. I don't think it's really hit me yet, but everyone has been great. Everyone at Nickelodeon has been great! They gave me a little swag bag! I have my Nickelodeon bag, a blanket, and a water bottle. They gave me a bunch of The Really Loud House stickers too, so it's been fun and honestly just surreal.

What was your first acting experience that you remember and what did you take from that experience?

My first-ever acting gig wasn't professional I guess; it was the first acting experience that I remember. It was the first audition that I ever went to, I was eight and in third grade, and I was auditioning for my regional theatre’s production of Zorro. I had never auditioned for anything; I didn't even have a headshot! We ended up using my Christmas pictures from that year. I went in with no official headshot, with nothing on my resume, auditioning for a part. There were tons and tons of other girls that were stacked with resumes. We had a cold read and a song we had to sing. I volunteered to go first. I memorized the lyrics and went in there to sing “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction. If you know anything about theater, you don't say One Direction in an audition. Everybody else is singing arias or traditional music theatre, but I wasn’t. I was just confident, and it got me pretty far. I got a callback, and then the director called my parents and told them that I was really talented. The main thing I've taken away from that is confidence. I was confident in myself, despite not having any experience. I was confident in my abilities. I volunteered to go first, and I didn't care what song I chose. I think that will always get you far.

Was there anyone you looked up to when you were younger that inspired you to act?

Honestly, I don't really remember who specifically I was watching when I said that I wanted to be on TV. One of my biggest role models, when I was younger, was Selena Gomez because she was just amazing on Wizards of Waverly Place. When I was younger, I also believe that I looked like any girl with tan skin and dark hair, so I thought we were the same, and I wanted to be her. So I would definitely say Selena Gomez. Ariana Grande was also huge for me in elementary school. I was obsessed with Victorious; I was a big singer. Then I got really into Sam and Cat. I am just obsessed with her to this day.

What is a genre that you haven’t worked in before that you’d like to try?

Drama or horror. I think that would be really fun. I have worked exclusively in comedy, but I would love to explore drama. I know that the whole set environment would be completely different, because on set for The Really Loud House and on set of my other productions, everyone's cracking jokes. It's super light-hearted, even at times it’s a bit chaotic because this is a kid's show. So, I really wonder what it would be like to act in a drama or psychological thriller or something like that.

What was the best piece of advice that you ever received?

My dad is going to laugh when I say this because I make fun of him for saying it. He has this mantra where he says, “Work backward from your goal.” That's actually what he said to me when I said I wanted to go into acting. He's very much the type if I say that I want something, or I want to be something, or I want to do something, he will come up to me and say “You have to work backward from your goal. What do you want? What are the steps you have to take to get there? Make sure you do it and make sure you do it as best as you can. You know that you will get here if you do X, Y and Z. You have to end here.”

Do you have any advice for aspiring actors?

Like, I said before, confidence, because this industry can really tear someone down. There's a lot of rejection. Honestly, a lot of rejection behind closed doors. You don't know 99% of the time how your audition went because they won't tell you. They don't like you; you don't hear back. It's really demoralizing. It can get hard pretty quickly to continue with something without receiving affirmation or validation that you're good at it. So, I would say to know that you're good at it, and to do the best you can, so you know that you did the best you could, and to be confident in your abilities.
