Fun Fact
BuzzFeed published a report claiming that Tumblr was utilized as a distribution channel for Russian agents to influence American voting habits during the 2016 presidential election in Feb 2018.
I need to give some major credit to @pippenpaddlopsicopolisthethird for taking the best cosplay photos that I've ever had taken or seen in my life! Their vision for these was just perfect and I'm STUNNED by how they turned out 🤯🤯🤯. Please please go check them out and give them a follow!
don’t think i’ve ever shared this here but a few years ago i went to a few local anime conventions as kamen rider skull (from w).
and for those curious, here’s how i made it:
the helmet was an iron man helmet spray-painted silver with the lenses from giant novelty sunglasses as eyes. the gem was red plastic and i painted the lightning bolt by hand.
the hat’s from party city, the scarf… idk, and the chest was a generic superhero chest off amazon, with some aluminium-tape-covered, cut-to-shape single-subject school binders for the stripes, which is also how the wrist and ankle cuffs were made.
the shoulder pads are actually kneepads, the gloves are just that (specifically, like, heavy duty work gloves), and the shoes i think were some sort of very short boot. essentially just dress shoes with beefy soles.
underneath all of that, you’d think the move would probably be a black morphsuit, right? smooth, streamlined, form-fitt- nope, no… just a black long sleeve shirt and black pants. i don’t know if this is the one where the pants were like poncho material or just my pajama pants.
the driver is just the 20 rider kicks rerelease of the lost driver, zip-tied in the back because i couldn’t get a belt extender in time. oh, and yeah, i’m fully aware the double riders don’t have holsters for their guns, but it was either that or disassemble my skull magnum and put magnets in there, and tbh i don’t trust myself to do that so… holster it is. the holster itself is literally just a tool pouch.
visibility is pretty good inside the helmet. it’s very roomy, even allowing me to wear my glasses under it. mobility did suffer somewhat, though only when i needed to take a break from all the walking. i’d say if you were to replicate it, get shoes with some damn good support in them and (of course) don’t push yourself. i remember on one occasion, as i left the con, i had to basically stand in the passenger side floor at a 45° angle because otherwise, everything would hurt.
overall, given the assignment (kamen rider skull) and the budget (as cheap as possible) i’d say i’m pretty proud of how this turned out, even if the costume contests i entered don’t agree because their definition of a costume contest includes a talent show for some fucking reason.
but yeah, that’s my skull cosplay from… 2019, i think? if anyone knows how i could improve on it, please do let me know. i’m planning on getting back into the local anime con “scene” next year, probably with a kamen rider black cosplay, so any tips i can get now should maybe possibly help with that.
I went to a small local con last weekend and finally got to wear my shin kamen rider 2 out again.
I had to fix the torso with velcro (for NYCC I made the mistake of just hot gluing the foam to the pleather, hence my tits exploding).
It was nice! I got recognized roughly twice which I found impressive for something out in the sticks.
