Fortnight of Books: 2020
Day 1:
Overall - best books read in 2020? Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens. The Great Divorce by C. S. Lewis. Multiple entries in the Covered Wagon Women series, edited by Kenneth L. Holmes. Death by Living by N.D. Wilson. Things We Couldn’t Say by Diet Eman and James Schaap. Please Stop Helping Us by Jason L. Riley. Priceless by Robert K. Wittman and John Shiffman. A Man for All Seasons by Robert Bolt. Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The Invisible Boy by Alyssa Hollingsworth. War Letters, edited by Andrew Carroll.
Best series you discovered in 2020? I read a few of the Grandma’s Attic series by Arleta Richardson and those were pretty light and fun. Otherwise, @lover-of-the-starkindler got me to read Meadowsweet by C.J. Milbrandt and it was tooth-rotting but I fully intend to read the rest of the series when I have time. Mighty Jack by Ben Hatke deserves a mention too.

03 – Under the Gun
“I know it’s soon and things are still complicated. I know my work is hard and your family hates me. I know there are a million reasons to say no and only one good reason to say yes.”
There were a lot of things going on in her head at the moment and none of them had anything to do with Aubrey’s work, or her family, or even Weston and all of the complexity and drama of the ongoing investigation. She was still lost in the play of light in Aubrey’s eyes and the way the blonde woman’s lips moved when she spoke, even the nervous twitch of her hand clenching in her pocket. Stacie took in every little detail as Aubrey’s words settled over her.
“Only one? What reason is that?”
She had a million reasons why she wanted to say yes so she couldn’t imagine there being just one single good reason to marry Aubrey. It wasn’t just the way Aubrey moved, or spoke. It wasn’t just the way she owned the space she was in, or how well she wore a suit. It definitely didn’t have anything to do with how much money the blonde had or the dangerous way she made it. It was the way Aubrey made her feel. Desired, loved, precious. Safe. Aubrey made her feel safe in a way she had never felt before. She didn’t have to pretend to be anything or anyone to survive, it was safe to just be herself.
“You love me too.”
Okay it was a pretty good reason and her heart felt so full she was afraid it would burst in her chest. On just about anyone else that line would have come off as a cocky boast. But somehow coming from Aubrey it was honest and oddly vulnerable. She did love Aubrey, and she couldn’t imagine her life with anyone else. She had thought that knowing they were together had been everything but now knowing that Aubrey wanted to spend the rest of their lives together… Stacie didn’t have words for how much that meant to her.
“With every breath I take. Yes, I’ll marry you. ”
It was the truth, she loved Aubrey like she had never loved anyone else before. Her eyes dropped down to the ring as she removed it from the box with a slightly trembling hand. The diamond caught the light and flashed brilliantly. She would have been happy with a plastic Cracker Jack ring but it was pretty clear that Aubrey had spent serious money on it. It was beautiful and the weight felt settling as Aubrey slipped it on her finger.
The moment was too much and all of her feelings came out in an exuberant squeal as she pulled Aubrey into a kiss. Her hands trailed up the front of the other woman’s vest and shirt to slide under her jacket at the shoulders. Aubrey’s muscles shifted and the jacket spilled off her to puddle on the floor. Stacie hummed softly into their kiss, her fingers nimbly unbuttoning the row of vest buttons to get to the crisp black shirt. The blonde shrugged out of the vest quickly, hands unknotting her tie with practiced motion.
Stacie grabbed the ends of it, loving the smooth soft feel of the silk as it as she tugged them toward the bed. Aubrey’s hands were everywhere on her body, igniting little fires everywhere nails grazed lightly over skin as she tugged Stacie’s underwear down her legs. She stepped out of them, the backs of her thighs bumped against the mattress and she fell back into bed.
Aubrey gazed down at her, the hint of a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips as she undid her slacks and let them fall to the ground with her underwear leaving her only in a bra and her unbuttoned shirt. Stacie’s breath caught as she let her eyes roam up the length of the blonde’s toned body as she crawled on the bed and straddled Stacie’s hips. Something darker flickered in Aubrey’s eyes and she leaned down, propping her weight on hands placed on either side of Stacie’s head. The dark linen shirt fell open and she immediately reached out greedily stroke her hands along the other woman’s ribs.
“Stacie…”
She waited for whatever Aubrey was planning on saying to come out but nothing did. Deep down she knew what the hesitation to speak was. She knew they had been putting off saying the one thing they both needed to acknowledge. Aubrey had to hear the words and she knew in her heart of hearts that she had to say them to make it real for both of them.
“Aubrey, I know. I know what this life can be like.”
After what they had been through with Weston…she knew exactly what type of life she was signing up for. One day her life could end for something Aubrey did. One day Aubrey’s life could end for something Aubrey had done. And those situations would likely be merciful compared to years in prison for either of them.
“You know but you don’t know. Not really, Stacie. Peeking around the curtain is not the same as…”
“Burying the body?”
Aubrey gave her a soft chuckle and shook her head. “Yeah. But don’t worry, I’d never ask you to bury anyone. I got a guy with a backhoe for that.”
She knew Aubrey was actually serious and she knew that Aubrey was waiting for her reaction to the halfway joked statement. Stacie let the comment hang, testing out her feelings on it before she shrugged. Her fingers trailed along the lacy bottom edge of Aubrey’s bra.
“If you want me to shocked, I’m not. If you want me to be horrified…I’m not.”
“But are you scared?”
She could feel the weight in the question, could feel how deeply it mattered to Aubrey. Stacie reached up with one hand to cup the other woman’s jaw in her palm. The blonde tipped her head into the touch but her gaze stayed on Stacie.
“Am I scared of you? No, never. I know you’d never do anything to hurt me. Am I scared of the potential for horrible things to happen? Yeah, of course I am. I’m not naïve Bree, I know things can get out of hand and everything can go wrong in the blink of an eye but I’m not going to spend every waking moment waiting for something bad to happen. Good or bad, right or wrong…I just want to be with you Aubrey. Always.”
Aubrey closed the distance between them to catch Stacie’s lips in a kiss that left her breathless and needy. Her hips rolled up in a desperate attempt to get closer, every part of her aching with the need to touch and be touched. Stacie broke the kiss first, hands insistent as they nudged and tugged at Aubrey’s thighs to get her to move up toward the headboard. They moved together, Stacie raising her head far too eager to lick, kiss and taste all of Aubrey. The tall brunette moaned with the first broad stroke of her tongue through Aubrey’s slick folds.
Her hands clutched convulsively at Aubrey’s thighs, her own hips lifting and rolling in time to the slow undulating rock of Aubrey against her lips. She was lost in the quietly sighed moans and the gentle creak the wooden headboard gave when Aubrey tightened her grip on it, lost to the taste and feel of the other woman as they built a steady rhythm together. So lost she could only press her own thighs tightly together to try and ease the pulsing throb of need between her legs.
She was swept up in the current of quickening cries and frantic movements, ready to drown in the overwhelming feel of the moment. Stacie raised her head again, delving as deeply as she could, loving the whimper that followed. It was heady knowing she could break that cool, collected façade that held back the real Aubrey. Stacie got all the parts of Aubrey that the world would never get to know because Aubrey trusted her. The truth of that dragged her closer to the edge, making her writhe under the other woman.
Stacie brought one of her hands down from Aubrey’s thigh to slide down her own belly. Fingertips stroked lightly through her own wet heat and a moan echoed out of her and vibrated through Aubrey who gasped and ground down harder against her tongue. There was a brief moment of disappointed confusion when Aubrey lifted off her to shift and turn, giving her a view of the length of Stacie’s body. Tendrils of fire raced along her skin at the feel of the blonde’s warm breath against her hip. The ends of Aubrey’s soft hair tickled over her thigh and Stacie thought there might be a real chance that she would lose her mind before she was even touched.
She could hear her heart beating erratically, banging against her chest an odd staccato that seemed somehow distant and loud at the same time. Aubrey tried to lift her body, stopping a hairsbreadth away from where she was so desperately needed. Stacie squirmed and tugged Aubrey down closer but the banging was back and louder than before, so loud she was sure that she wasn’t the only one to hear it.
“Stace…wait…”
The words were audible, she knew what they meant but she still didn’t understand them. Stopping was the very last thing she wanted to do. She gave a small growl, lifting her head to chase Aubrey as she tried to lift up and off her again.
“No…”
“The door, it’s…oh Jesus.” They struggled for another moment, Aubrey trying to get free and Stacie doing everything in her power to keep the other woman right where she wanted her. Aubrey managed to push up from the bed but her elbows gave out when Stacie thrust her tongue back into her at a frantic pace. Aubrey was right at the edge and she just needed one more second…
The door to the room burst open hard to slam against the wall and bounce closed again. Stacie jumped at the crash of sound, struggling to drag herself to awareness. The door kicked back in again and before she could process it she was rolled off the edge of the bed, Aubrey’s weight heavy on her chest.
“Christ…do you two ever not have sex?” Aubrey growled and sat up, hand wrapped around the handle of her gun. “Whoa…don’t shoot the messenger.”
“Mitchell…what the fuck are you doing in my house?”
Everything was moving too quickly and she was still trying to play catch up. Her body twitched involuntarily when Aubrey nudged her accidentally. She wanted to sit up and see what was going on but the rational part of her brain was equal parts terrified and mortified.
“Yeah you weren’t answering you phones. Do I want to know where you were hiding that gun? No? Okay well get dressed because in about 6 minutes the Feds are going to be all up your ass.”
That stopped the freight train of lust dead in its tracks. Aubrey looked down at her and sighed. Stacie bit her lip to keep the insane giggle from tumbling out. Well. She did say she knew what she was in for, she just didn’t expect to have to be confronted by it so soon. Aubrey jerked her head at the door and Stacie could hear the detective walk out and shut it closed behind her.
There were no words to fill the silence with, each of them teetering on the edge of saying something. Finally Stacie gathered herself up and stood, holding a hand out to Aubrey. Maybe they didn’t really need to say anything about it. They were a team and they’d deal with this like everything else. Aubrey’s fingers were warm where they grasped hers and she couldn’t resist a teasing chuckle.
“Where did you hide that gun?”

EVERYBODY LOVES FIN: EPISODE 19
Tumblr media
Canucks Twitter has never been more passionate, divisive and heavily opinionated; let’s go with an all-encompassing—vibrant. Any fan base is a community of people with thoughts to share, and luckily for others, content to create for a wider audience. I have to admit, I’ve been largely on the outside of Canucks Twitter, merely because I tend to direct my opinions to a TV screen rather than on social media. That being said, lately my sister, Pass it to Bulis contributor and Botchford Project recipient, Natalie Hoy, has been encouraging me to listen to more Canucks-centric podcasts. It’s been a fun time.
2010s: Does Vancouver really need two all-sports radio stations? 2020s: Does Vancouver really need 741 Canucks podcasts?

The world of ‘audio blogging’ has only grown over the past few years. Listeners are able to multi-task - exercising, cooking, cleaning, driving or on public transit - while plugged in to a new episode on practically any personal device. It’s a form of entertainment, often interactive, and a perfect creative outlet for amateur (and experienced) broadcasters looking for a new project. There is no shortage of podcasts courtesy of Canucks Twitter, a testament to the commitment and drive of fans, and the accessibility of the art form. With the Qualifying Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs just about underway, there is much to be talked about. Let’s take a look at what’s out there.1
C4 Podcast
Founded: July 2013
Players: Chris Golden (@lyteforce), Anna Forsyth (@aforsyth03),Matt Lee (@mattlee_61)
Premise: The longest-running, active Canucks podcast (birthed from Canucks Hockey Blog) has been on-air for 7 years! Originally co-hosted by Chris and parody song creator Clay Imoo (@CanuckClay), the podcast offers commentary about current Canucks and NHL affairs, prospects, expectations, reminiscing on the team’s past (memories of the retired taco lover Eddie Lack and past playoff runs), and features interviews with guests. This past season, they’ve had Patrick Johnston (The Province), Satiar Shah (Sportsnet 650), Cam Robinson (Elite Prospects, Dobber Prospects) and Dan Murphy (Sportsnet) in the hot seat.

Founded: December 2019 (relaunch)
Players: Sean Warren (@SeanyeWest234), Samantha (@samanthacp_), Malcolm Ert (@malcolmert), Bradley Thomas (@bradthomas_96), Eric (@breakawayeric), Bailey Broadbent (@baileybroadcast)
Premise: Area 51 celebrated a relaunch last December since their inception in July 2019, and in May welcomed a team to join host Sean Warren. Aside from their cool, alien conspiracy branding, at the mic they cover a broad range of hockey talk with notable guests (writers and broadcasters in the media, content creators, musicians, WHL players, fellow blog/podcast owners, Canucks Autism Network). I love that they’ve started to cover important topics beyond the gameplay, like anti-racism, inclusivity, and diversity in sports, and have actively sought out the guests to do so.

Cap Space Wins Cups
Founded: February 2020
Players: Hassan Ahmed (@_hassanahmed9), Ahsan Ahmed (@ace103196), Hussain Ahmed (@hussain11ahmed)
Premise: The newly formed podcast has a light, humorous tone - evident by their inaugural episode introduction about their lack of social media followers. They cover quick hits of the Canucks week, roster situations, hockey culture, and of course, cap space. They’ve hosted fellow podcast hosts and media (Satiar Shah, J.D. Burke, Matthew Sekeres, Jeff Paterson), and even a fellow Burnaby kid, Massimo Rizzo. Rizzo was a 2019 Carolina Hurricanes draft pick. It’s clear they have a lot more to share, including takes in on their corresponding blog – see: How the Canucks Can Acquire Dougie Hamilton & Build a Cup Contender. I’ll read anything related to Dougie Hamilton.

The Broadscast
Founded: July 2020
Players: Vanessa Jang (@vanessajang), Georgia Twiss (@georgiatwiss), Samantha (@samanthacp_), Mallory (@sports_lesbian), Danielle Huntley (@danihuntley)
Premise: Your ‘local hockey girl gang’ talks Canucks, sports culture, and soap operas. All 5 hosts have a significant following on Twitter and are bold and uncompromising, which makes for great statements and table chatter. This was written with only their Teaser episode released, but you can expect no shortage of pop culture references, fashion discussion, NHL wives and girlfriends (WAG) and pet content, along with team analysis. It’s trailblazing for a group of females in Vancouver to start their own podcast that’s hockey-focused, meant to be a casual chat amongst friends. They know the team, know their media, can gossip, and are having fun with it.

PUCKS ON NET
Founded: September 2013
Players: Ryan Schaap (@schaaptop), Geeta Reddy (@geetanjalireddy), Paul McLellan (@McLellanPaul), Dave McPhail (@PucksOnDave)
Premise: The group of 4 has created a casual, honest atmosphere with their roundtable conversation. They’re good friends, which equates to great camaraderie. They run a ‘contradictory’ fantasy hockey league and don’t talk ‘fancy stats’ (while still being very knowledgeable). I think they’re engaged with their listeners, and relatable as human beings amongst their talk of Tim Hortons NHL trading cards, player safety, current signings and acquisitions, and Green Day at the All-Star Game. Reaching 7 years of consistent hockey talk and recapping the team’s evolution is a feat in its own.

And on Sunday, Ryan sat down with his old man for Father's Day to talk about growing up playing minor hockey in Calgary, bonding over the Vancouver #Canucks and even his words of wisdom when it comes to talking to your kids about drugs.https://t.co/BaQFM53Yws

The Canucks Conversation
Founded: November 2018
Players: Chris Faber (@ChrisFaber39), David Quadrelli (@Quadrelli)
Premise: Faber was joined by Quads in 2020, and the pair has perhaps the most praised local podcast so far. They’re both BCIT Radio Arts and Entertainment students (and writers for CanucksArmy), and their dedication, preparedness, branding and reporting level are top notch. They break down topics with great chemistry and perception - roster moves, Nikita Tryamkin, Olli Juolevi, and the Judd Brackett situation. Some of their notable guests include Utica Comets Kole Lind and Brogan Rafferty, and ‘bionic’ Finn Sami Salo.

July 30, 2020
Canucks & Pucks
Founded: April 2019
Players: Matthew Zator (@MatthewZatorSC)
Premise: Matthew Zator, writer for The Hockey Writers and Hockey Ops Director at Overtime Heroics, made a return to the airwaves this past July (after a lengthy regular season hiatus). Since getting back up and running, it’s full steam ahead – Zator has been joined by contributors from The Hockey Writers, The Canuck Way, college hockey newsletter Fresh Ice, and fellow podcast hosts. He has good insight and as a writer who goes into depth about NHL draft picks, the Vancouver Giants, and both the Nucks’ positives and negatives in his work, it gets noticeably transferred to the on-air conversation.

Canucks Speakeasy
Founded: August 2019
Players: Pete Edwards (@pete_gas), Doug (@dougvenn)
Premise: Pete and Doug are 2 “mildly educated Canucks die-hards” who chat about current team news and trending topics. They’ve covered trade talk, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, prospects at the World Juniors, scouting, and the BLM movement. They’re occasionally joined by guests including podcast friends, and fellow fans/Tweeters Chris Conte, Jenna Fabulous and Ray Hatt.

The LarschCast
Founded: June 2019
Players: Tej Dhaliwal (@DrTejDhaliwal), Sat Oberoi (@SatOberoi), Nav Dosanjh (@NavDosanjh1983), Ryan Cassels (@cassels_music)
Premise: The Larschcasters are known for their entertaining banter and debates, mostly on hockey and a little NFL. They’ve picked the minds of seasoned media (Scott Oake, James Duthie, Joey Kenward), legendary broadcaster Jim Robson, and former Canucks Kirk McLean, Chris Higgins and Shane O’Brien. They’ve been generating healthy content during the pandemic, including a spirited debate with Minnesota Wild podcast hosts, discussing media personnel moves, prospects, NHL Award contenders, and the toxicity in the Vancouver Canucks market. In June, they released a special with hockey coach/trainer Jennifer Chefero, sharing her story facing sexual abuse and harassment in her career, while candidly discussing women’s rights and sports culture.

The PP1 Podcast
Founded: October 2019
Players: Brayden Ursel (@bkursel23), Ted (@tee3ree), Ryan Hank (@always90four)
Premise: A tagline like “three guys from Kelowna bringing the heat and spitting the takes” doesn’t need further explanation. Appearing at the beginning of this season, the podcast (which features writers from The Canuck Way and CanucksArmy) has had some nice guests like the Canucks inaugural captain Orland Kurtenbach, retired centre and current Kelowna Rockets Assistant Coach Vern Fiddler, and Paul “Biznasty” Bissonnette. They’ve been nominated for Kelowna Now’s Best Local Podcast, and have a ‘Dudes and Guys’ segment where they pit 2 players against one another and talk it out (criteria is debatable).

The SCT Show
Founded: September 2018
Players: Nam Mann (@CanuckAgent007), Tanbir Rana (@TRana87)
Premise: SCT is Strictly Canucks Talk. Aside from reminiscing about ‘where were you when’ pivotal moments in franchise history occurred and the regular shop talk of performance and #NamStats, they draw in guests to talk about trade value (The Athletic’s Harman Dayal) and stickhandling (specialist/trainer Pavel Barber). They’ve also hosted local defenceman and last year’s 4th overall draft pick Bowen Byram, and hockey analyst/retired winger Anson Carter for a chat about the pressure of the market in Vancouver and the Sedins. Like any good heated debate, there are also trade and Team Tank vs Playoffs scenarios.

Johnny Canuck Talk
Founded: August 2019
Players: Adrian J. Haug (@adrianjhaug), Roy Styles (@roy_styles)
Premise: Takes from 2 arm chair GM’s, the pair discuss a wide variety of topics like losing streaks, hockey safety, report cards, line-ups, and trade deadline. They’ve also shared an insightful chat with Harman Dayal (The Athletic) about his career and the late and great Jason Botchford. It’s laid-back and conversational, with mentions of farmers’ tans, celebrating birthdays during quarantine, and the school system strung across introductions. What’s cool is they record the podcast from near and far away places – Kamloops, BC and Germany (!).

1 This list is not exhaustive, but there is something for everyone and I hope you find your Canucks fix. There can be an argument made that the podcast market is oversaturated, but I like to see it as an opportunity for any fan or audio bird to let their voice be heard! So, don’t be negative about it.

1. Ben Hogan's Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf (1957) - tác giả Ben Hogan, Herbert Warren Wind, Anthony Ravielli ( 5 bài học của Ben Hogan - Các nguyên tắc cơ bản hiện đại của golf)
2. Golf is Not a Game of Perfect (1995) - tác giả Bob Rotella, Bob Cullen (Golf không phải trò chơi của sự hoàn hảo)
Điểm số  4.27/5 theo 2362 đánh giá từ Goodreads
Nếu cuốn sách của Ben Hogan thiên về kỹ thuật, Golf is Not a Game of Perfect giúp golfer xây dựng 1 tâm lý vững vàng.

50. How I Play Golf (2001) - tác giả Tiger Woods (Tôi chơi golf ra sao)

When Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore was accused of sexually molesting children as young as 14, his fellow hardcore evangelicals shrugged at the scandal -- it was "common knowledge" that Moore had a fondness for young teens.
Moore isn't alone in liking very young girls as sexual partners. The grooming of children to marry adult men is a common practice in American evangelical circles, and infamous child-bride advocates are celebrated on the lecture circuit, especially among home schoolers.
These "courting" experts counsel parents to encourage their children to seek marriage with adult men, advocating for marriage in the "middle-teens."
It's a widespread view among the hard right evangelical world, mainstream enough that Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has publicly advised his fans to marry 15- or 16-year-old girls, because "you wait until they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket." This view was defended by mainstream Republicans, and Robertson has continued to enjoy success in right-wing media, with a new show on CRTV.
Predictably, adult men who are caught having sex with children blame the children for "seducing" them, and in the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist sect, these children are forced to repent for having "sinned" by tempting adults to commit statutory rape, making public confessions to their congregations.
As a teenager, I attended a lecture on courtship by a home-school speaker who was popular at the time. He praised the idea of "early courtship" so the girl could be molded into the best possible helpmeet for her future husband. The girl's father was expected to direct her education after the courtship began so she could help her future husband in his work.
In retrospect, I understand what the speaker was really describing: Adult men selecting and grooming girls who were too young to have life experience. Another word for that is "predation."
Much of the sexual abuse that takes place in Independent Fundamentalist Baptist, or IFB, churches involves adult men targeting 14- to 16-year-old girls. If caught, the teenage victim may be forced to repent the "sin" of having seduced an adult man. Former IFB megachurch pastor Jack Schaap argued that he should be released from prison after being convicted of molesting a 16-year-old girl, asserting that the "aggressiveness" of his victim "inhibited [his] impulse control." In the wake of the Schaap case, numerous other stories emerged of sexual abuse cover-ups involving teenage girls at IFB churches. In another high-profile case, pregnant 15-year-old Tina Anderson, who was raped by a church deacon twice her age, was forced to confess her "sin" to the congregation.
Roy Moore's alleged pursuit of a young girl is the symptom of a larger problem in evangelical circles [Kathryn Brightbill/LA Times]

The logic of Republican "trickle down" economics is that giving "job creators" more money per hour worked incentivizes them to keep working, and thus creating more jobs.
Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile has published an excerpt from her forthcoming book, confessing that the scandal-haunted, disgraced former DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz "let Clinton's headquarters in Brooklyn [manage the Democratic Party] it desired so she didn't have to inform the party officers how bad the situation was."
The programs Obama established to retrain coal miners are going begging in Pennsylvania, undersubscribed because the out-of-work miners they were established to help are convinced that Donald Trump wasn't bullshitting when he promised to bring back coal.

Nieuw-Zeeland: Zuidereiland deel 2
Wanaka
“Okay Denise, if you are ready, PULL THE STICK!” It was totally worth it, but I need a bathroom right now”. Hahaha.
Omgeven door wolken, bergen en heel veel meren was het alsof we echt on top of the world stonden.
Milford Sound is een Fjordland National Park en staat in heel veel ‘must see’ lijstjes bovenaan!
Ik heb me zelden zo jarig gevoeld!
 Kaikoura

Your Tuesday Morning Roundup
Sound the alarm. The Eagles have the best record in the NFL through the first seven weeks of the season. Philly was slow out of the gate, but turned it on later in the game en route to a 34-24 win over the Redskins on Monday night. The Eagles are now 6-1 on the season and in the driver’s seat for not just the NFC East, but the NFC overall.
During pre-game, ESPN re-aired this feature on Carson Wentz and the Kusters.
Also in attendance was former Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos, who received a great welcome back:
The end of that first half was nothing short of magic, right @JonDorenbos? #FlyEaglesFly http://pic.twitter.com/Q2GEeClV4e
— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) October 24, 2017
He also met another former Philly athlete:

— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) October 24, 2017
A lot of positives to take from this one, but a few major injuries as well with Jason Peters and Jordan Hicks exiting the game early. Early reports do not look promising. Stay locked to Crossing Broad all day long as we’ll have the best day-after Eagles coverage.
Now to other stuff that doesn’t matter quite as much.
The Roundup:
The Sixers played last night as well and earned their first win of the season, 97-86, over the Detroit Pistons. Ben Simmons recorded his first ever NBA triple-double and Joel Embiid dropped 30 points in the win.
Fultz had two points off the bench. What’s eating him?
This is just beautiful:

Stay locked to CB for more day-after Sixers coverage today. The team hosts the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
A CFL game ended with a team earning one-point by fielding a missed field goal and kicking it out of bounds. What?
In ESPN’s latest Egg-on-their-face moment, it canceled Barstool Van talk after just one show and released this statement:
“Effective immediately I am cancelling Barstool Van Talk. While we had approval on the content of the show, I erred in assuming we could distance our efforts from the Barstool site and its content. Apart from the decision, we appreciate the efforts of Big Cat and PFT Commenter. They delivered the show they promised.”
If you have this bad of luck, you really did someone wrong:

Dan Patrick is starting a broadcasting school:
This week, he plans to unveil the plans behind the Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting at Full Sail University. The revenue-sharing partnership will see the Winter Park, Fla.-based for-profit university develop a sportscasting degree with instruction from Patrick and many of his industry colleagues.
The program launches Jan. 29. Administrators are in the process of hiring a regular faculty to teach the courses.
It already has commitments from what it calls an associate faculty. For example, a couple of times a year Bill Simmons will provide writing instruction, Jeremy Schaap will give talks on reporting and interviewing, and Jay Harris will teach the ins and outs of appearing on camera. They also are talking with former ESPN President George Bodenheimer about taking part.
This is a pretty cool time lapse from Penn State’s White Out last Saturday.
Eagles fans are currently the most interested in buying Super Bowl tickets.
According to a study, watching sports is not good for our health:
“Our results indicate that viewing a hockey game can likewise be the source of an intense emotional stress, as manifested by marked increases in heart rate,” said senior investigator Professor Paul Khairy, MD, PhD, Montreal Heart Institute, University of Montreal. “The study raises the potential that the emotional stress-induced response of viewing a hockey game can trigger adverse cardiovascular events on a population level. Therefore, the results have important public health implications.”
James Harden was a school yard bully last night on the court:

Our Kevin Kinkead dives deeply into the mess that is the Philadelphia Union that they their season is over:
It was business as usual in Chester, where the season’s inevitable outcome was determined less than halfway through. Young players were benched, others regressed, and the team played the same damn formation before finally getting experimental when the season was lost. One step forward, one step back for a franchise that can’t seem to get out of its own way.
The positives are few.
Rookie Jack Elliott surprised everyone with his intuitive and veteran style of play. Sapong, who started the season on the bench, had a career year. Haris Medunjanin wound up being a great signing and Andre Blake again proved his case for a European transfer. Folks continued the treck to Talen Energy Stadium despite onset apathy and continuing mediocrity, showing me that this fan base remains recession-proof and dedicated.
On the ice, the Flyers host the Ducks at the Wells Fargo Center. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
In the non-sports news….
A couple got a lot of weed with their Amazon order.
Teens dropped rocks on a road, killed a passenger in the process.

Jack Schaap: Sued for Investment Fraud!
Tumblr media
Pimppreacher.com 05/06/2016
HAMMOND, INDIANA: Jack Schaap, the disgraced former pastor of First Baptist Hammond, Indiana, has fallen even further from grace.
First, Schaap was removed as pastor and sentenced to 12 years in prison for sex crimes with an underage girl.  Second, his wife Cindy divorced him.  Now, Schaap has been named as a co-defendant in a lawsuit filed on May 5, 2016 by four former parishioners.  They allege Schaap and one of the deacons were part of a Ponzi scheme, causing a loss of at least $400,000.
Deacon was one of Schaap’s cronies
Tumblr media
(Kimmel is shown on the left being followed by his attorney after his conviction.)
Thomas Kimmel, the other defendant in the lawsuit, was hired by Schaap in 2006 to provide financial counseling for FBCH members.  He even had an office at the church’s main campus in Hammond.  Kimmel was a member of the Board of Deacons; he also served on Hyles-Anderson College’s Board of Directors.  Hyles-Anderson College is located in Schererville, Indiana and is owned by FBCH.
The Claim
In the lawsuit filed at U.S. District Court in Hammond, the plaintiffs alleged Schaap encouraged parishioners to seek financial help with Kimmel, and specifically promoted investing in a company called Sure Line Acceptance Corporation.  Kimmel was sentenced to 22 years in prison and ordered to pay $16.5 million in restitution for his role in the Ponzi scheme in 2014. Kimmel traveled across the USA for 20 years, holding conferences about “God’s Plan for His Money.”  Kimmel would receive endorsements from church leaders including Schaap, who hired him full-time at FBCH.
Commentary
When churches get involved in matters like personal investing, the unsuspecting parishioners think they’re getting a good deal because they are working in the framework of the ministry.  Unfortunately, as we see way too often, church leaders become greedy and use this as an opportunity to fleece the flock even further.  Kimmel’s victims lost college funds and retirement savings because of his scams.  They were left penniless.  One can only hope some justice will be served and more victims will be able to recoup their losses.
