okay you know what, i just reread dream catcher after a LONG time.

firstly, i honestly don't think i can say this too many times but i love the way you describe things. everything. you can even describe an ogre poetically in 2k words and i will still read it all. secondly, i love the plot. 'your name' is my favorite makoto shinkai film and i can't tell you how much you deserve credit for writing something inspired from it. plus, with akaashi. it was perfectly tied together and the way he remembered her again was just the perfect coincidence. the burns, the 'dark haired phantom girl' vibe, the mysteriosity, the connection he made with toya-chan and flowers, and most of all, the japanese traditions. it's literally perfect. and props to you, you still hold the title of being my favorite writer on this site and in general at this point even though it's been over a year since i joined tumblr(i used to follow you before i even started writing on here).

i understand that akaashi is not widely written for in the fandom and all, but sometimes i say 'screw it, let's do it for myself' while writing longfics. and i think that this one was so good and i really thank you for sharing it with us :)

oh sam <3 i took my time to answer this ask because i wanted to savour reading it over and over again. dream catcher doesn't get much love, and so every bit it does is so so precious to me, and i appreciate it even more when it comes from you!

with the writing in dream catcher i was definitely going for a more poetic / dreamy / whimsical style to really drive home the whole dreamlike quality of the fic, especially since more than half of it is told through akaashi's dreams and flashbacks! idk whether i hurt the reception to the fic by stating outright that it was inspired by kimi no nawa but you know what - it's also my fav shinkai film so not giving it credit wld be wrong.

and oh gosh akaashi really is my go-to protagonist for these kinds of fics cos he's just romantic and sweet and sensitive and i love love writing for him! i feel like to a certain extent i made it too obvious who the girl in his dreams was but eh - it was so so fun writing it!
