☆ ALICIA’S MONTHLY MEDIA MENTIONS: JULY `22
hiiii!! I’m back for the end of July :) it feels like this month has dragged on forever, but not in a bad way. My days have felt longer, but I feel like I’ve been able to experience so much more in 24 hours. I got a job working in downtown Toronto, so it’s been fun travelling there every day. I also met up with friends more often and have been rejuvenated with a newfound motivation after some encouraging conversations with them. the month started and ended on a high, and I have a feeling I’ll make even better memories and creations in August ♡

Found this song through Holybang’s performance on Street Woman Fighter. It has such a phenomenal intro and pairing it with the visuals from the performance make the song even better.

I truly don’t know why Miguel would collaborate with Diplo to turn such a beautiful song into EDM....when it first came out, I listened to this song on repeat throughout the entire 1 hour commute to work. Miguel’s voice is so special.

FEARLESS - LE SSERAFIM
FEARLESS was such a low-key sounding song I didn’t pay much attention to it when it first came out - I thought it was a cute debut, but man am I addicted to it now. Along with The Great Mermaid, Sour Grapes, and Blue Flame, their debut EP (??? amazing thank you for more than just a single!) was solid af.
I also just love the girls <3 they seem so sweet. So far, Chaewon has been my love at first sight bias, but as I get to know the girls, Sakura and miss HUH YUNJIN my gay icon are creeping up on Chaewon.
Another note - I was genuinely so surprised to hear they ended Garam’s contract. Such a big move but I’m happy that Source and Hybe are showing they don’t tolerate that kind of nasty behaviour. If y’all need a new 6th member call me.

“Singing My Sister Down” by Margo Lanagan from Black Juice (2004)
I had to read this for my science fiction course. This is such a beautiful soft sci-fi story. I really didn’t expect to relate to this so much, but I could FEEL the family’s grief and sorrow. My family has been going through an especially dysfunctional past few years. Part of me is scared that our Ikky’s actions will result in a similar ending for Lanagan’s Ikky.
To my Ikky, I’m sorry it’s so hard for me to forgive you. I truly hope you can find it in you to come to terms with all you’ve done and how you can mend the relationships you’ve broken.

I know the meme of gays not being able to sit properly is funny, but Brehas offers an insightful analysis of what this behaviour represents in media. 10/10 I’d really recommend giving this article a read.

Since it’s risen in popularity, I’ve hated the naming of aesthetics happening recently. Genuinely did not have words for my dislike of “___core” and labelling your style. It made me feel like individualism was on its deathbed and everyone who did advertise themselves as an aesthetic felt like they needed to conform to something, even if it was a niche community. The comments are also quite interesting.
When Hollywood Speaks Chinese, I Cringe | Video Essay - Accented Cinema
It has ALWAYS bothered me when they make non-Chinese mfs speak Mandarin to make them seem intelligent. Like - your poor pronunciation is not impressive! The same goes for when they try to make an intelligent or intimidating character speak English in a non-Western movie and the grammar or pronunciation is a bit off. It just takes you out of the narrative.

i understand why the girlies hate tmp... i truly do. like- the pacing is bloody horrific, lacklustre dialogue, with bland introductions to ne wcharacters, and soooo many of its key elements ARE recycled elements from TOS. nonetheless, my love: whereas many LOATHE the long, drawn out exposition shots, i find the fucking visuals positively p*rnographic.... its ghorgeous.... bjeautiful<3. and dont get me STARTED on the love story, woven so tenderly into the narrative.. oh sniff sniff. its SO romantic, and i darent care what the girlies say for im oh so gooey... i truly am.

i think generally speaking, of the tos movies i have seen twok definitely DESERVES its rep as probably... the best written one? i think thats what i hear the general consensus as, yah<333 its very good it truly is.<3 like its sooo solid- and I FEEL GOOFY NOT SAYING MORE ON IT, its just a good fucking movie baby!! genuinely iconic. and tyou kknow that scene fucking made me cry sniff sniff cry. you know it did....

NO SHUT UP BC SFS is one of my favourites ok sniff sniff... like- heavens above.... like- im going to speak my truth, here, yknow. i love the TOS crew- but in the actual series proper, a lot of them dont really get their dues, you know? and its a little hard to always click with them because of that- which is a shame bc like i do LOVE them theyre lovely little guys but yah... however between this and TVH literally i fell totally stupid in love with them all as a unit. is it a little artifical - oh so totally - but when they all just give up everything to just (as far as they know) let bestie spock Rest In Peace.... im going to kms. </3 like- the whole scene where theyre breaking bones out- im INSANEEEE FOR IT. PEAK OF CINEMA OF ALL TIME. and later on, like, gosh... ive considered getting a tat of the enterprise burning up in space, it sent me so beserk bananas.
however this movie is also the fucking worst for everything that happens on that godforsaken planet. hi....... hellaur..... NO, bc literally i will gut whoever made those choices. demented in the head. saavik, baby girl, i am so so fucking sorry they did this to you. also rip david, i fucking guess? i keep forgetting he exists. christ.
