The little girl squirms for a minute before glaring up at Kathryn, expecting to be fed. Kathryn tips the bottle down and slips the nipple into her mouth. Philippa gives a little grunt and sucks hard. Kathryn feels her chest release once again and for one moment, Kathryn can almost feel that connection that every mother claims to have when feeding their child. It’s there, just the barest of a spark that flickers while the baby looks up at her. She’s got Tom’s eyes, Kathryn realizes.
